I read all three of the Wolf Hall novels consecutively within a couple of months. Hilary Mantel is such a gifted writer and deserves all the awards for this books series. My personal favorite was the Bring Up the Bodies, I’ve always been fascinated by Anne and her story. But reading about Mr Cromwell and his rise and his subsequent fall over the course of hundreds of pages was a gift.
The Mirror and the Light was a feat in storytelling, wrapping up this dramatic piece of history. I knew how it ended for him, but reading about how Thomas Cromwell fell out of favor with the king took me there, immersed me in those dark halls, made me feel his hope and pain.
Remarkable finish to a fantastic trio.
This is book #3 to the Wolf Hall series and again it did not disappoint. It picks up after the beheading of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII’s marriage to Jane Seymour. We read more about Thomas Cromwell’s rise from his meager beginnings to now Baron, next to the King a powerful man in England at the time. But all good things do come to an end. Thank you to Henry Holt and NetGalley for a gifted copy. This is my honest review.
