After her childhood was spent in and out of foster homes. Sara is adamant she will always keep her family together and safe. When her husband Matt loses his job, Sara knows that it falls to her to keep things running. She then makes a huge mistake and it isn’t long before James (her boss) finds out and wants to make a deal with her. A fast paced, unputdownable and thoroughly addictive read that’s full of twists and turns! Fantastic!
I absolutely love Ronas books so I already knew this one would not disappoint. I jumped straight in without even reading the blurb!
As always, Rona had me hooked right from the beginning. I couldn't put it down. With all the twists and turns, this is another book that keeps you guessing. I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait for her next book!!
I just love this Author and her suspenseful books!! Definitely another top notch thriller!! A must read for anyone that loves fast paced thrillers!
I am a big fan of this Author's books. This, her 5th, in my opinion, is her best so far. I do not repeat the synopsis. I felt bad for Sara. She makes her first mistake and then is caught in a bad situation. I wanted to shake her at some of the decisions she makes. I did not expect the ending at all. Great story, fabulous characters (mostly), do yourself a favour and read it. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book. Bring on #6.
Another great book by Rona , loved the characters , well most of the characters . Great slow building story which left me reading well into the night , could hardly put it down towards the end . I highly recommend this book .
An excellent, unputdownable book of suspense (and stress...lol) from author Rona Halsall!
Sara has a husband (Matt), two teenage daughters, and a young son. When Matt loses his IT job with a lucrative paycheck, Sara decides to extend her hours at the community center she works at. In a moment of desperation, she does something extremely out of character to ensure things will be okay for her family. It comes with a price she never expected, and one that will uncover a disgusting and infuriating turn of events.
I was absolutely gripped from the beginning, and had no idea where this novel would go. I was appalled, couldn’t understand why Sara dealt with Matt and his terrible and selfish attitude, and suspecting of many characters as culprits. That’s a successful read for me.
Thank you to Bookouture, Rona Halsall, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The book was OK. It wasn't my favorite book by the author. I would give it 2.5 stars. I enjoy the author's writing. I didn't connect with any of the characters. Really didn't like any of them. Matt seemed shady from the start and always had to be in control. Sara wasn't good enough to use her inheritance for more schooling, but Matt expected that money when he wanted to use it. He constantly gave Sara guilt trips Sara could have prevented many of the problems if she wouldn't have thought stealing money was the answer to her problems. She could have told Matt the truth from the start. Then Sara just kept lying, used lies to cover previous lies and made terrible decisions. Her decision making skills were horrible. She steals because she's too afraid of her husband and makes a creepy deal with James. I pretty much believe Matt was always like that and simply didn't do a complete personality change overnight. Sara either refused to see t, made excuses or both. Hated the way Sara's girls treated her. Although, it was pretty accurate for teenage girls, they can be little jerks.
The best part of the book was when Sara and Hailey teamed up and started their detective work. I wasn't a fan of Hailey at first. She always seemed to take Matt's side and her reactions were always over the top. I'm pretty sure James had to know what was going on. How was Sara drugged? The book definitely had twists and turns. It was crazy to find out who was behind everything.
Recommend the book if you were a fan of the author's previous books. I look forward to reading more books by the author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bookouture through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. What can I say but you’ve done it again, Rona! I have read and thoroughly enjoyed all your books and this one is no exception. With a cast of interesting characters, great setting, and plot twists and turns I didn’t see coming, this is definitely a book worth reading. Can’t wait for the next one!
i so enjoyed this book this author just gets better and better Sara will do anything for her family her and her sister did not have a good childhood the story is just brilliant .this book is very twisty dont want to give the story away but it is a must read book
Sara has the perfect family with the perfect home. Then her husband loses his job and every shred of his confidence so Sara knows its up to her to keep her family safe from the brink. She doesn’t know where she is going to find the money to help keep them afloat but then her boss offers her a deal. All she has to do is go out with him a few times as a companion. Will doing this protect Sara’s home and her family or will it destroy everything?
A very slow start for the first half of the book. I’m glad I persevered though, as I raced through the second half quickly. I can’t say I liked any of the characters and felt myself getting angry at them all. Why couldn’t they just talk to each other?! But of course if they did then the story would have been completely different. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I absolutely adore this author. I was so excited to see there was a new read coming out. I jumped at the chance to be a part of this blog tour. This book really has not disappointed and I have not been able to put this one down and have devoured this book in just one sitting. It is absolutely fantastic. I have loved the characters and the plot in this one. It's definitely kept me guessing and made this a book I've been desperate to see what happens. Halsall is a superb author and has a talent for pulling the reader in from the very beginning. This is definitely a book and author I will be recommending. This is a fab read with an exciting plot. A book which is definitely worthy of five stars.
Such a great pull you book. So much that I didn't want to put this one down. Suspenseful and a wonderful read. You won't be sorry you picked this one up.
Thanks to the publisher and Jetgalley for an early release of this book.
This is also one of those books that should come with a warning. Please, make sure you have plenty of time once you start reading it, because it's so captivating that you will scarcely be able to put it down!
What would you do to protect your family? The answer to that question is very simple: everything. When you are with your back against the wall, sometimes the only way out is the one you should avoid at all costs, but you take it anyway. You are convinced that it will all work out in the end. In stead, you are leaping out of the frying pan and into the fire...
Who can you trust? Who can you count on? Who will believe you?
Did I like the book? No. I loved it. :)
The writing style is great and the author takes you on a journey through a world of lies, deceit and blackmail, all in the name of money. 5 stars.
Thank you, Rona Halsall and Bookouture
After a childhood in and out of foster care, Sara is determined she will always protect her family. When her husband Matt loses his job, she knows she needs to step up and keep a roof etc over their heads. She then makes a big mistake and it’s not long before her boss James finds out what she’s done and wants to make a ‘deal’ with her.
Rona Halsall has written another engrossing and gripping read.
Each time you think you know what’s going on, the author puts in more to make you realise you are way out! Talk about being kept on your toes! This book had me guessing right up until the truth finally comes out near the end.
This is a steady paced book full of suspense and deceit, a well thought out psychological thriller. I highly recommend it.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A fast paced psychological thriller which I found very hard to put down. Misdirection on nearly every page. Packed with tension and suspense which had me glued to my seat. This read had me second guessing so many times. Almost five stars and highly recommended.
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC.
Rona is one of my new favourite authors and when I saw this book on Netgalley, I requested it straight away as I couldn't bear to wait for it to be published and like the other books that Rona has written kept me glued to my Kindle, even managing to have a sneaky read at work yesterday. There was so many turns in the story that had me doubting everyone including Sara and the ending was no where near what I was thinking and brilliant. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for the next book. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.
This suspense story had me at the edge of my seat!
Sara and Matt have 3 children. Maybe a wee bit of a routine life for them all. Later, after Matt drops his bombshell on Sara, the book literally explodes!
Great characters and amazing suspense throughout! RECOMMEND!!!
Many Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I Owe You is a highly addictive read, I literally found it hard to put my kindle down!! It had me guessing so many times and I wasn't quite sure who I could trust, a definite recommended read.
I've read and enjoyed all previous novels by Rona Halsall, so I went into this one with high expectations.
Unfortunately this book didn't quite hit the mark for me. The main character's decisions early in the book were so wildly stupid that I just couldn't get behind a supposedly educated woman making them. The whole book relied on the trope that is increasingly prevalent in psychological thrillers, but which I hate: If two characters who are supposed to be close just talked to each other and were honest, there would be no story.
A positive is that although I had some ideas about who was overall responsible for what was happening, I did have questions about other characters' motivations and that was what kept me reading until the end. The ending was also satisfying and didn't leave any unanswered questions.
One issue I had which may sound a bit petty is the overuse of 'frowning' in the characters. I checked and the word 'frown' was used 54 times in a relatively short book. If I was editing, I probably would have suggested cutting that down a bit.
Overall I would recommend other Rona Halsall novels over this one, but it will not put me off reading her future books.
After a tough upbringing, Sara promised herself she would do anything to protect her family. When her husband Matt loses his job Sara knows it's up to her to fix things, but after making a few rash decisions and mistakes things start to go wrong for Sara... The opportunity to solve all her problems seems to arise when her boss offers her a way out of her problems, if she can just so a small favour... but will this be another mistake? Can Sara save her family life or will things just spiral out of control?
What a fantastic book! I've never read any of Rona's Halsall's books before and now I know I've really been missing out! The book is well written with a brilliant plot, interesting characters, lots of twists and turns... I can't recommend this book enough. It keeps you thrilled and guessing right to the end, and I couldn't stop reading until I had finished. I'll be getting Rona's other books to read now after enjoying 'I Owe You' so much.
Thanks so much to the publisher, author and NetGalley for the advance copy of this book.
