4 out of 5 stars - If you ask me, I'll tell you to read it.
Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley for this Advanced Readers Copy.
This is the story of Ben and Kate, Senate staffers from opposite sides of the aisle. When they get off to a really rocky start, it turns into an office war of mail pranks and verbal jabs. The line between animosity and attraction becomes blurred and questions start to arise about how a politically opposite relationship could work.
I read this over the weekend as a way to escape the world for a few hours. It was light-hearted and fun, with minimal politics all things considered. The story line may have been inspired by the 2016 election, but little is actually discussed about the details of politics going on in the country currently. I enjoyed watching 2 characters with opposing views overcome the stereotypes and see past the labels to figure out how they could come together for a successful relationship.
Kate and Ben are the oil and water on capital hill. Staffing for rival sides can only lead to trouble. I loved the look of how policy gets made and seeing the daily lives of people who help run our gov't. Perhaps it's the gov't teacher in me. I loved t.
The story of two politicians, two different sides. Will one of them get what they want, or perhaps both of them? Meet You in the Middle is the perfect enemies to lovers romance that everyone needs to grab. The story of opposites, yet two pieces of a puzzle, the relationship of Kate and Ben show that even if you believe in different things and have different ethics, chemistry and soul go together just as well.
Meet You in the Middle was an amazing five stars. The chemistry between Kate and Ben was heart-stopping and you can't help but fall in love with them. Even if the two of them supported different things, you can feel the longing between them and feel how strong their chemistry was. Throughout reading Meet You in the Middle, I felt a variety of different emotions, yet not once did I think it was bad. That's what I really enjoyed, how much Meet You in the Middle was able to hook me in and keep me sitting on the edge of my seat.
I fell in love with Ben since the moment we met him. He's sweet and sure, in the beginning, we don't see a good side, yet, the more we got to know him, you can't help but fall in love. He was a gentleman from the start and you can't help liking his character. I loved the way you could see Ben falling in love with Kate first. The chemistry and the way he talked to her was so evident yet it felt like it wasn't. He was fantastic at hiding his true feelings but throughout the book you could see the way he had tiny hints that he was falling in love with Kate.
Devon Daniels does a fantastic job writing Meet You in the Middle, showing us the chemistry and how two souls can become one with Kate and Ben. I'm not sure why I held off reading Meet You in the Middle for so long, but now that I have, I wish I did it sooner. I didn't think I would fall in love with two characters, but, I have. Bravo to this fantastic romance.
A political enemies to lovers with a lot of intrigue. I loved how these two were so combative but also so concerned about the other. I really enjoyed the tension.
Gosh, it took me a while to write this review. i think the main issue is how sensible we are in the current era we are living. i think this book might have been received differently 6 years ago, but today. it's crazy, between Trump and the pandemic, i get why this touched some reviews the bad way.
but to me it went beyond that, Ben is a douche, how can the author expect me to love him? he was bland and unlovable. Kate was a bit more passable but i couldn't connect with her, there was an emotional crater in this novel.
I have really conflicting feelings on this book, Another one that I think the premise intrigued me but was written at a time when things are too tense politically in the United States. Things have became so far from the "right" or "left" when conservative values have become about denying basic human rights. Good writing so I hope to see more from the author.
This was a fun rom-com! I understand why some people were upset regarding the political views described, but I think we have to remember that this is a work of fiction. I came into this book looking for a great romance, and it delivered.
Oh my goodness gracious. This book. Y’all, Meet You in the Middle has been one of my most anticipated reads for this year, and I finally got to read it. Y’all know I LOVE political romances, but I was so worried about this one after reading the Goodreads reviews. It’s about a Democratic female who works in Washington, DC and falls in love with a Republican man who works in the same building. I am very passionate about my political views, so I was a little concerned that I wouldn’t be able to get into the story or that I would find a character offensive or unappealing, but I absolutely LOVED this book. 🥰🥰🥰🥰 The romance part of this story is now in my top 5 romances of all time. There were 1-2 parts/things that were said that I didn’t *love* but not enough to diminish my adoration for this book. In fact, I think the author did a really good job of showing both sides. I highly, highly recommend this one! The swoon-worthiness of this one is comparable to Beach Read and the witty banter/hate to love workplace storyline is comparable to The Hating Game. I know that comparison is overused, but trust me on this one. 😍 This is the closest thing to The Hating Game that I’ve read. Words cannot begin to describe my love for this story. I can’t wait to get a physical copy to house on my bookshelves.
I was expecting this to be a fluffy romance and I probably should have known from the blurb that this book wasn't what I was looking for. I read in general but specifically romance for an escape form the world and this one just couldn't give me that.
I love, loved Kate, Ben and everything in this book! In the midst of all the political who-ha that was going on in 2020, this book was a welcomed respite. Their banter was captivating and the strife to be civil palpable. This book gave me all the feels - my heart raced and stopped, I cheered and teared. I read it in one night staying up way to early in the morning and instead of going to sleep, I immediately wanted to start it over again! The writing was witty and one hundred percent showed how it is possible to hold onto something you truly value while being open minded to meet in the middle.
If you are looking for a book that captivates your imagination and emotions, pick this one up today!
This was a decent enough rom com, but it’s not my favorite. I found Kate to be very grating with her very close-minded party-centric world view but did appreciate the personal growth she showed by the end of the book. I did, however, love Ben and he was the reason I was able to make it through the whole book without DNF.
I really enjoyed the enemies to lovers trope. I think it was well written and I liked the political spin to it. The banter was witty and I liked the build up between the characters.
“Meet you in the Middle” was a cute, predictable romance. Sworn enemies after their first encounter, Kate and Ben are constantly sparring and disagreeing- specifically when it comes to political views. That tension soon turns to flirtatious tension and the two eventually come together. The plot is predictable and similar to other romances, but it is still enjoyable and had some aspects that felt fresh and new.
***Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
While I was super excited to read this (Hating Game meets West Wing, what's not to love?) I found that the politics bogged down the story a little too much and lessened my enjoyment.
Okay. If you’re looking for an epic rivals to lovers then this is for you. I enjoyed Kate and Ben! This political love story is worth a read!
I had some difficulties with this book. Mostly the female lead insisting, as a democrat woman working for a politician, she could NEVER be in a relationship with a republican. Then she begins to fall for a guy that works for a republican senator. She seems to have such an issue with the fact that he is a republican even though she is falling for him. Her inner monolog has so much to say about their differences. She enjoys being with him while also hating it in her inner monolog.
I like how this book brings light to the fact that democrats think republicans are the worst and that even though we have different political views we can still coexist, be friends or even love one another. Unity is what this book is screaming that we are all in ONE NATION!
As a woman who is currently in a relationship like this, only its reversed ( I am a republican and he is a democrat) I don’t see how a party line should determine who you hang out with, are friends with and who you love. My boyfriend and I get into may heated political debates and there are some topics we are no longer able to discuss since he is further left than I am right, but it has never been an issue with our relationship. At the end of the day we can still come together and recognize that our differences are what we love about one another. This book is similar but the female character fights it for so long and has such an issue with his pollical affiliation instead of the man. My boyfriend has had his own struggles with my political views but respects that I have my own reasons for voting and thinking the way that I do, as I do the same for him.
I love a good opposites to lovers story and Meet You in the Middle did not disappoint. I was not a huge fan of the politics of the book however I fell in love with the characters and liked watching their story.
Super intriguing story. I enjoyed reading this book. The characters are multidimensional and interesting. I was on the fence on reading this book in the beginning but I was glad to finish it. A gem of a book.
Meet You in the Middle by Devon Daniels is such a treat!
I’ve been raving about Meet You in the Middle by Devon Daniels for over a week to anybody who will listen. This book initially caught my attention because it’s the story of two senate staffers from opposite sides of the aisle that meet and, through rivalry and political banter, fall in love. The broad strokes of this story felt so familiar. At one point in my life, I was a Hill staffer who fell for the boy I couldn’t agree with but still found incredibly smart and charming. I wanted to re-live all the feels of young love! But, I was ready to be disappointed for all the same reasons I was drawn to it.
As it turns out, this book was absolutely delightful every step of the way. I laughed out loud for the first time while reading the opening paragraph where our main lady described some of her biggest pet peeves. (Wait, is this book actually about me?) By page two, I was already sharing quotes with one of my besties. About 50 pages in, I forced her to drive to the nearest Barnes and Noble during her wood cabin vacation to pick up a copy. Once I finished it, I bullied multiple friends into dropping everything to read it. Then I decided the only logical next step was to re-read the book, so I did. No regrets. But, I digress.
The quick and dirrrty
Meet You in the Middle is about Kate and Ben. Kate is a southern girl who “dropped her accent but kept her hair.” She’s my kind of gal, idealist, competitive, and high-strung. A legislative assistant for a democratic senator, Kate is working on getting her first bill passed through Congress. Unfortunately, her bill won’t see the Senate floor without some bipartisan support.
In comes Ben, the gorgeous Texas boy and legislative director to the republican senator Kate thinks she can get to support her bill. Ben is witty, arrogant, and perplexing, and also unwilling to support Kate’s legislative agenda. After cringe-worthy first and second encounters, Ben and Kate embark on workplace warfare, but their obsession quickly turns into flirtation.
Devon Daniels debut novel is smart, sexy, and impossible to put down
Both Kate and Ben can be unbearable at times. Kate is intolerant, and Ben gives off weird Christian Grey vibes (without being a sadist.) Both are also so stubborn! But their flaws are unimportant because, as annoying as Kate and Ben can be, their chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS. And, let me add, to say this book is steamy is an understatement. I had to gather myself a few times because my heart wanted to beat out of my chest. Despite Kate and Ben’s (very intentional) character flaws, the story is perfect on all levels.
Devon Daniels is a master storyteller. In Meet You in the Middle, the narrative is flawless, the dialogue is hilarious, and the jokes are smart. Senate buildings’ descriptions felt so real to me even though it’s been years since I’ve walked those hallways. The background details of this political romance are even based on actual events. I devoured every page, even the author’s note and acknowledgments, which is a real testament to how much I wanted to hold on to it.
Meet You in the Middle is a perfectly hilarious and sexy romance that readers will no doubt love. Get it now!
The U.S. presidential election may be behind us, but politics and romance still make for a timely and entertaining romcom in Meet You in the Middle (Berkley). Kate Adams is on the left side of the political aisle, while Ben Mackenzie skews decidedly (and infuriatingly, to Kate) to the conservative right. Their political differences put them at odds professionally — and make for some fiery debates — but can they find a way to meet each other halfway?
As a congressional aide for liberal Senator Carol Warner, Kate has spent the last year working hard on the Child Care and Education for Working Families Act. It’s an important piece of legislation, and Kate is determined to see it succeed. But to do that, she needs to convince her colleagues on the right, which isn’t going to be an easy task.
As the legislative director and gatekeeper for conservative Senator Hank Hammond, Ben is not enamored with Kate’s bill. Their first confrontational meeting sets the tone for their working relationship, but their arguing has an undercurrent of flirting and, soon enough, snappy banter gives way to the possibility of steamy romance.
In Kate and Ben, debut author Devon Daniels has created two headstrong, opinionated people determined to work for the greater good, even when they can’t agree on what that might be. Fans of “The West Wing” will be enjoy this charming enemies-to-lovers tale!
