I've read quite a few books by Annie, but it wasn't until I had finished this book and was thinking about it that I realized how truly amazing Annie is at writing books that incorporate real-life, honest topics that fold into the HEA story so well that you leave happy and content with what you just read. Annie's books have included traumatic life events like accidents, illness, and death but they never feel like they're too much to handle. There are always great characters, a fantastic setting, and a wonderful story to life you up and make it all work out in the end.
Emma is a really great, complex character. She knows her fellow towns-people so well, does so much for them, and asks so little in return. She's also not aware of how great she is. I spent so much of this book wanting to give her a hug and tell her it was all going to be ok. Watching her figure that out for herself was really fulfilling and it was so worth it to see her get her HEA.
Jack is just a perfect romantic lead. He's the golden boy who you just imagine with a halo around him, which he has no idea he has because life has made him think he's not worthy. Watching him come into his own and move for what he wanted was really great. He and Emma go so well together.
It's always great to go back to Sweetwater Springs. There's just the perfect mix of warm, caring characters with the right amount of meddling folks who know what's right for everyone else. It's like going back to that quaint small town where you spent vacations as a kid - warm, comforting, and just the right little amount of twee to make you consider rolling your eyes before you laugh and go get that next cup of coffee with your friends so you can discuss the latest town shenanigans.
Love this series. The way that Annie intertwines the characters form the previous books is amazing. Dealing with one's insecurities is difficult but Annie writes with an understanding that is believable and well thought out.
I loved it! So sweet and fun! I like that there's not a lot of seemingly insurmountable angst in this author's books. Life is hard enough. I want hope and her books provide it. The characters are not billionaires or rock stars. They are normal people that are doing their best. They make mistakes and have flaws. A sense of community and friendship helps them pull through and grow. I look forward to more from this author.
This is a small-town romance with very realistic characters undergoing difficult circumstances in their lives and also in the lives of their family. The relationship between Emma and Jack Space starts off right away but I felt that the real chemistry picked up a bit later in the book. Jack’s nephew Sam is a cute teenager and his arrival actually spurred the real chemistry between Emma and Jack.
The main theme of anticipation and anxiety when undergoing a health check up is brilliantly depicted and totally relatable. This wait for the results is absolutely annoying to the core and makes people behave completely different from their actual personality. Unlike other small town based books, this one doesn’t really dwell much into other supporting characters which might be a good thing.
Overall an easy, fun read with an inspiring message and some great chemistry.
Once again the amazing Annie Rains has written a book that gave me so many good feelings. I laughed, cried, and got a bit frustrated with Emma towards the end but she got her stuff together quickly at least lol. Jack and Emma's story kept my attention throughout the entire book and this was just what I needed to read to boost my spirits from the stress of daily life. I can't wait to read the next book in this heartwarming series!
Sunshine on Silver Lake is a wonderful story dealing with cancer and substance abuse. The strong characters who deal with their problems and still live a life of love and sunshine.
"Sunshine on Silver Lake" by Annie Rains is a new second chance romance novel in a small town setting. Jack and Emma have a somewhat complicated past but their friendship takes center stage over the course of the summer. Emma is putting together a 5K and needs Jack's help to make it happen. Jack needs Emma for his family's sake. Each character is dealing with their own issues, but will the end of the summer bring them together in love?
This friends to lovers story is endearing and enjoyable. It is a quick read but has some more sensitive topics like substance abuse, loss and health conditions that could stir up the emotions in readers. The quaint small town setting is adorable and friendships play a key role in the story. I also enjoyed that the novel follows both of the main characters. It is almost like a behind the scenes approach to both of their stories. Author Annie Rains storytelling highlights their separate points of view and then expertly weaves them together to create the novel. My heart was full after this book and I look forward to reading more from this author!
I really liked this book. It’s a friends to lovers story. Very well written and tugged on the heartstrings just the right amount. Emma is turning 30 which is the same age her mother passed away. This kicks off facing some fears of hers and looking for a new way to honor her mother by organizing a 5k. To do so, she enlists the help of her friend, Jack, who has always been sweet on Emma but has held back for reasons of his own.
I loved watching these two take their relationship to a new place. Their chemistry was great. There is a trigger warning that there is some reference to alcoholism in this book. The book is part of a larger series but reads great as a stand-alone. I would recommend this quick read to fans of RaeAnne Thayne or Emily March. A truly enjoyable book.
Loved this easy read! Emma and Jack were attracted to each other in high school but a bad prom date caused a rift between them. They have a second chance at their relationship but obstacles get in the way. Jack has family issues and Emma has family health issues that could also affect her. It was just a wonderful small town story about Emma and Jack and the other characters in Silver Lake!
Thanks to Annie Raines and Forever of Hatchette Book Group for the opportunity to read this book!
I had been waiting for Emma's story! I love a good coffee shop and I love a friends to lovers story. I am so glad I got to read and review this book. Emma and Jack have a complicated friendship in their past and Silver Lake is their story of working through the issues they are hiding from and coming together as a couple. I thought Emma and her fears were so relatable as a woman and seeing Jack support her when they both found the courage to lean on each other was so heartwarming. We need more warm romances right now and if you are a fan of Hallmark Movies, warm hugs and happy endings, this book is a must read!
This delightful story deals with issues of addiction, cancer and self-awareness, moving beyond past conceptions, family relationships, and keeping secrets. They are handled well as they are woven into a heartwarming story filled with charming characters, second chances, and the support of family and good friends. This is a great small town romance and I look forward to a return to Sweetwater Springs.
