This book was really good! This is hard to review without spoilers so I can’t say much. I LOVED that I was constantly changing my mind on who did... any of the incidents that happened. I’m still not even sure we got the full answer at the end. Some parts are a little slow and could be cut out to speed it up but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it!

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

After reading the synopsis for The Vow I was intrigued and looking forward to reading it. The storyline was there, the unreliable narrators were there as was the slow build that uncovered more and more secrets. As things unfolded I began having a harder time with Matt's character, I know he wasn't supposed to be a terrific guy he's the character you love to have, but the abusive tactics were hard to read. (I also think there should have been some trigger warnings about this). I also felt as though the 96 hours the police were able to hold Amy was dragged on more than necessary; "lets talk about this one more time" but nothing new was added to the story line. This was a good read, fast paced, but nothing I'd rush to recommend or rearrange your TBR for.

This book was interesting. It took a while to get into, and had some slow parts throughout. But overall, it was worth the read.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Matt suddenly and mysteriously disappears two weeks before he and his fiancee Amy are set to be married -- and the day before he is supposed to move in with Fiona, another love interest of his. The novel thus centers on the police inquiry into Matt's disappearance and the relationships between Matt and Amy and Fiona.

Although the premise of this novel had me intrigued, the novel fell somewhat flat for me. True, there were enough twists and turns to keep me turning pages, but I found the plot to be a bit predictive and the novel as a whole to have too much unnecessary description and to be too repetitious in places. All in all, I thought this was an o.k. and decent enough domestic thriller, but not a great one.

I love finding a new author who writes a terrific debut suspense/thriller. Amy and Matt are getting married in two weeks, just a few final details remain. That is until Matt disappears. As the story unfolds, you meet Jess, Amy's daughter from her first marriage, and her friend Cath. Amy has a wonderful daughter, her own herbalist business that she built, and is now marrying a man she loves. After Matt disappears and their love story begins to unravel, details from their pasts come to light and this story is just hard to put down. Thank you Avon Books UK and #netgalley for allowing me to preview this book #thevow

The Vow tells the twisted story of Amy, who hides a dark and painful secret. Engaged to Matt, they are two weeks away from getting married when he fails to come home from work one night. From that moment on, Amy's life is never to be the same again. When the police receive another report of a missing man, it matches Matt's description, and it becomes clear that he was leading a double life. The other woman is Fiona Rose and she tells the police that Matt was about to leave Amy for her, and that Amy is disturbed - that Matt was frightened of what she might do when he told her he was leaving her.

Amy's grown up daughter Jess never liked Matt, and saw how he treated Amy - why couldn't Amy see it?

As the story flashes back to 1996, it's clear that there is a mystery that has something to do with Matt's disappearance.

As the police question and arrest Amy it seems that she has no way of proving her innocence. But Jess is on the case and it's clear that in this story, nobody is quite who they claim to be.

A thriller with plenty of twists and turns, a great escapist read and well-written.

This is a quick easy read which doesn’t demand too much from the reader - which is great if all you want is a beach read but slightly irritating if you want more from your reading. None of the characters are particularly likeable and I ceased caring towards the end.

This is the first book I have read by Debbie Howells and I really enjoyed it. A well written and fast paced psychological thriller which kept me guessing throughout. Looking forward to reading more from this author. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Hats off for being brave enough to write your first book but this wasn’t the most ground breaking book I’ve ever read. It is just like loads of other crime/suspense books that have come before it with no originality I’m afraid. The writing is quite basic and flat. Sorry - I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone based on this. It’s just been done before.

Amy and Matt are due to get married in two weeks, it's going to be the happiest day of her life, Jess her daughter is to be bridesmaid- but she's not keen on Matt and the way he treats her mum. As Amy is walking down the street, she is approached by a woman who tells her not to trust Matt and that' something bad is about to happe. Spooked but not convinced Amy goes home, and gets a call from Matt to say he's taking a client out for dinner and will be late home. When she wakes up and he's not there she knows something is wrong and tried to call him but it goes to voicemail, she reports him to the police as a missing oerson..... Then she receives the flowers and it escalates from there. Who can you believe and what secret has Amy got in her last that seems to be affecting her now?

What a fantastic book, so many twists and turns, will recommend to friends and family. Thank you net galley for letting me read this and to Debbie Howells for writing it.... More like this please you have a new fan!

Amy is planning her wedding to the love of her life, delivering herbal remedies, and watching from afar as daughter, Jess, thrives at university. Life is good. One afternoon however, she is accosted by an old woman in The Lanes in Brighton who warns her of an unexplained danger.

Matt, her fiance, has swept her off her feet and the big day can't come quick enough for her. She's convinced the old lady was mad and nothing will spoil her vision of a perfect future, but when Matt calls to say he has to work late she goes happily off to bed having no idea how awful everything is about to get.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was a different storyline than I had expected and all the better for it. I expected some stereotyping but instead the main protagonists were well written and believable, with strong female characters and a location obviously well loved by the author. Amy is a herbalist and once again Debbie Howells' knowledge and love of her subject shine through providing an originality and realism throughout.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to any fans of this author or anyone who prefers a slightly less traumatic psychological thriller.

Holy Cow! What an amazing story full of twists and turns just when i thought i had it figured out another twist was thrown in the mix! I was immediately invested in the characters Amy and Matt are to be married in just two weeks time when all of the sudden he seems to vanish off the face of the Earth but not before Amy is approached by a woman telling her that Matt is no good for her and that she may find herself in some serious trouble! Immediately confused Amy rushes home only to receive a call from Matt stating that he has to take a client out to dinner and he may be late coming home. He never does return home though which is immediately troubling to Amy so she reaches out to everyone she can think of then ultimately involves the Police. Another woman comes forward about her partnet missing also...Was matt living a double life?

This is definitely a must read thriller! Thanks Netgalley and Publisher! Debbie Howell has a new fan and i cant wait to see what else she comes out with!

This book has it all: an intriguing story, unreliable narrators, lies, secrets and a character you love to hate.

Two weeks before the wedding Amy’s fiancé Matt goes missing. He just does not come home after having dinner with a client. Amy is devastated. She is so happy to have found love again after an unhappy marriage and years of her own raising her daughter Jess. Amy tells the police how happy she and Matt were and how much they were looking forward to their wedding. But were they really?

This was a fun read. The book is fast paced and there are a few twists. I read it in one sitting and while the story offers nothing knew it is still very entertaining.

Amys planning her wedding day, its going to be perfect. perfect husband to be, perfect homegrown flowers and perfect dress. But then a strange worman warns Amy that somethings not right and Matt goes missing. Then she finds he'd been in a relationship with another woman.

This story messes with your head a little, questioning who to believe and wodnering what ahs been going on. Is Matt dead? Kidnapped or has he got cold feet? Is Fiona as innocent as she claims? And why does something make me not want to trust Amy? I also didnt trust her best friend.

As the story develops and we learn more about the cast I think theres hints but the twist in the story is perfect

What a fun plot. Amy and Matt are making wedding plans and just weeks from the big day the unthinkable happens: Matt never returns home after a business meeting with a client. The last call Amy received from him was at the end of his workday. He called saying he had a last-minute appointment so he would be late. The close of his call had vibes of a cryptic message when he called Amy babe and told her to take care. He never called her babe or ended a call with those words.

And my heart was pounding. It was off with a bang. Perfect.

Unfortunately, the story told in various POVs, began to slow down, not speed up. At times I’d find myself yawning and wondering when it was going to go somewhere. It almost flat-lined and lulled me to sleep. Much of it was very repetitive and unnecessary.

But did I keep reading? You bet. It may have had problems, but enough of the writing was good that I needed to know more.

As far as twists and turns were concerned, for me, there really weren’t any. But I guess it depends on what you pick up and don’t as you read.

Yes, until I read the last of the book, I wasn’t 100% sure, but I had most of the mystery completely figured out.

As far as the characters, they were vanilla. They were fine, yet not memorable.

My Concerns
As much as I wanted to really like this book, my concerns began to mount up.

The first of the book felt repetitive.
The detectives didn’t feel consistent or completely believable.
The likelihood of all of this playing out didn’t work for me.
Even though it’s a lengthy book, it still felt disjointed.

What I Liked
This book had me turning pages, but it could have been so much more. I believe tightening it and working on the flow would have greatly helped. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t polished.

There were enough possibilities with this book that I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another by this author.

I think this is a book that you’ll either fall in love with or semi-enjoy.

My thanks to NetGalley and Avon for the ability to read this ARC and leave my opinion of the book.

I really enjoyed the way she weaves the two plot lines together and I was kept guessing all the time. I really enjoyed trying to work out who was telling the truth.

The police are looking for two missing men. Their fiancé's have reported them as missing. But the investigation soon takes a mysterious turn when they discover both missing men are in fact the same man.

The story starts as the bride to be gets a warning from a stranger, then her fiancé disappears, two weeks before the wedding. While this might seem to be an often used plot line, the story Debbie Howells weaves in THE VOW is a unique twist on the plot. Moving from one woman to the other's POV, we learn disturbing facts about all of the characters and what began as a man running away from his mess, turns into much more. Much, much more.
A great twist and some layered tension made this a book I'll make sure my friends read, even if I have to buy it for them.

I read this book in one afternoon as I could not put it down. To weave a tale like this around these two girls takes some imagination.
Trying to work out truths from lies, facts from fiction, and who is writing the sub text?
A gripping story, which travels backwards and forwards from 1996 to the present day, made even more believable as I know the areas along the South Coast where the book is set.

Debbie Howells is an author whose books I always enjoy... hello Her Sisters Lie 🙌. The Vow was a twisty and surprising psychological thriller that kept me up past my bedtime. The ending was very cleverly done, really didn’t see it coming.

Matt and Amy are the perfect couple and are about to get married. But 2 weeks before the wedding, Matt disappears without a trace. In her search to find him she discovers that he was living a double life, with another woman. He was not that man she thought he was. Amy has her own secrets as well. Wait til you find out about her past!

Thanks to Avon Books UK and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read.
