I read this for class as it was nominated for the International Dylan Thomas Prize and was blown away by Mary Jean Chan's talent! Her poetry is beautiful, soul-gripping and absolutely gutting. She uses poetic techniques and wields structures as if she were fencing - sharp and with confidence, which I find incredibly fitting for this collection. (Pun definitely intended there!) It's definitely a powerful collection, infused with incredibly strong emotions that become your own as you read. Looking forward to the author's next works, which I definitely will be reading!
