Hooked On You by Cathryn Fox, opens with an exciting horse chase which brings two unlikely people together. The book takes place in a small town of Nova Scotia, which is replete with wonderfully warm residents, lots of lobster, and a B&B that the commercial fisherman call home.
Kira is a mathematician and both her parents are academics. Her personal life is practically non-existent, because many potential friends and boyfriends get bored with her mathematical theorems. When her grandmother passes away, she drives across the country to reflect on the past and to sell her beloved grandmother's B&B. To Kira's surprise, the inn is still functioning. Its upkeep is being paid for by the commercial lobster fisherman that live there during the season. Overtime, they become like family. Nate is the boss, and he and Kira hit it off almost immediately. Nate is not only a fisherman, he is also the CEO of Hooked, a company that he is trying to spread good will about, since his father and brothers have always treated their employees so poorly in the past. However, until he gets all his lobsters in a row, he keeps his plans to himself. Nate and Kira fall in love, but they have to overcome some lack of communication in order to do so.
I liked this story and the camaraderie between the fisherman that live at the B&B. Their love for Kira's late grandmother is beyond meaningful. Kira and Nate are a sexy couple and their desire for each other is hot. Overall, this is a nice romance with a bit of wackiness and many wonderful characters.

I usually love Ms. Fox’s stories, besides the scorching hot level of her character’s chemistry in the sexy department I’m generally sucked in with their interactions, witty banter and compelling natures. Sadly, this was not the case for me with Hooked on You.
I started off on the wrong foot when our h, Kira is depicted as a “distracted mathematician”. Que in what seems to be an inability to focus and very long inner musings in between actual dialogue, which drives me completely insane.
I have to be honest here and admit to skimming a great deal through the whole book. I started it and I really wanted to like it, but it just wasn’t grabbing me, to the point where I read a couple of other books in between. Still, I was determined to see this one through, if only for the fact that I’ve read a lot of this author’s books and I’ve loved several of them. Once I realized the only way I’d be able to do that was to tackle it as I do some of the Korean dramas now on Netflix you know, those where each scene lasts 450% more than necessary and you could actually just fast forward from scene to scene and you can condense the one hour of viewing to a 15-minute episode and not miss an important plot point « Hide Spoiler and I started going from dialogue line to dialogue line, and almost altogether skipping their inner monologues, I finally managed it.
I did actually like both Kira and Nate and they did have great chemistry together. She was kind of lost emotionally, and he had some serious family issues to work through so this was a healing-together kind of romance. Unfortunately, I saw every single plot twist a hundred thousand kilometers in advance, and that, compounded with my inability to really connect to the characters given their too-long-inner-musing-itis just made it hard for me to get into the story and totally enjoy the experience.
Hooked on You is by no means a bad book, my expectations of what I’d be getting were too high and it just didn’t work for me personally. I still liked the story, it was sweet and heartwarming and I had some fun with the puny humor and easy comradery between all the town’s people. It just wasn’t the book for
Such an enjoyable story. Fun and it's interesting to learn about small town Canada. Main characters and secondly characters added to the charm of the story.
Small town romance is a big draw for me, mostly because they usually come with lots of quirky and fun characters. This little fishing town in Nova Scotia certainly had that, which to me was the best part of the whole story! Well, that and the self made family that Nate, and then Kira, cobbled together for themselves.
I didn’t feel much chemistry between our leads, unfortunately. Too many missed chances to clear up misunderstandings annoyed more than charmed me. And the lack of confidence and backbone from the brilliant nerdy girl made me sad and frustrated.
I admit that I had to walk away from this book a few times, as it wasn’t holding my attention. But once I got to maybe the 40-50% mark, I gobble up the rest of the story. It was a slow journey, but a satisfying read and conclusion. Cathryn Fox is definitely an author I’ve read before and will read again, as I like her style. Hooked On You just wasn’t the one for me.
My thanks to Netgalley for the advance copy. My review is voluntarily and honestly given.
What a great romantic read. I loved the characters, and being a Canadian - absolutely loved that it was based out in Nova Scotia. The small town feel was something that I believe we are all missing in our busy lives. I loved this book and it is a definite 5 Star Read.
Steamy, funny, outrageous (in a good way) cast of characters. Great story!
This was such an amusing story of an almost-innocent woman and the not-so-innocent man finding compatibility. Kira Palmer, 27yo absent-minded academic, mathematician has come to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia all the way from Victoria, British Columbia in order to settle her Gram’s estate. She’s not prepared for the weather, the quirkiness of the people and her guilt in not seeing her Gram for so long. She’s not prepared for most especially the HOT Fisherman who saves her from an angry runaway horse on her first day! This was one wonderful meet-cute. Her internal dialogue is hilarious.
Nate Montgomery-Lancaster (he’s dropped the Lancaster part) saves this adorable young woman from Eddie the horse whose antics keep his owner on his toes, if not all out running. He appears to be a fisherman b/c he likes to get his hands dirty by working along side people who work for him. In actuality he is the CEO of Hooked, a multi-million-dollar seafood company. He is attracted to Kira as much as she is to him, but there are complications. Oh. My. Word. When they meet again later where she is planning on staying, well, this is just one of those remarkable moments written by Ms. Fox and there are many! Will secrets injure this relationship? Will this no-strings “thing” they have remain that way? Loved getting these questions answered!
There is camaraderie, humor, some angst, lots of steam and miscommunication. There were times that I literally laughed out loud, something I don’t do often. The township is another “character” of many in this book with whom you will fall in love. I volunteered to review an ARC through Entangled/NetGalley and I heartily recommend this book.
I found that i enjoyed Hooked on You.
Set in Nova Scotia (we need more books set in Nova Scotia).
Kira is there when she meet Hot Fisherman, Nate.
She's average, logical, a little, ok, a lot nerdy with no game.
Nate has plenty of game and charm.
But what makes this book work is the supporting cast of characters and they are true characters and the oddball animals. There's trouble brewing and plenty of high jinks.
Cathryn Fox is a new-to-me author, and I’m always willing to try books by authors I’ve never read because I’ve found so many amazing gems that way. I still have list of top favorites, but branching out is never a bad thing. And the blurb really interested me here. So I dove into Hooked on You and hoped for the best.
I got so much better than what I’d hoped for! Turns out, this book has a great mix of emotional, yet quirky. Those descriptors apply to the characters and a lot of the situations Kira finds herself in.
NICUnurse’s Rating: Hooked on You is a wonderful mix of an emotional tale told from both the hero and heroine’s point of view and some quirky and hilarious moments to keep the story flowing. You’ll fall in love with Kira and with Nate, but you’ll also fall in love with this small town. It’s most likely unlike any small town you’ve ever read about. And the townsfolk are quirky, unique, yet lovable and loving people. During a time when we all really need a heartwarming story, Hooked on You delivers heartwarming comedy in spades.
I give Hooked on You by Cathryn Fox 5 out of 5 stars!
Hooked on You by Cathryn Fox is the story of Nate and Kira.
Kira has come to Nova Scotia to settle her grandmother's B&B. Kira finds that it is overtaken with fishermen who do different things to keep the B&B going. Along with that surprise she finds a man named Nate there who she thinks is a fisherman too. But he has a backstory that has him in town for more than the fishing. Kira and Nate are immediately drawn to each other and only grows stronger the more time they are together. Kira and Nate are so different but, they seem to fit together perfectly.
I enjoyed the secondary characters so much too, which is always a bonus.
A humorous story with great characters both human and animals. Khloe is back in her grandmother’s small Canadian town when she is rescued by a very hot fisherman after she is almost run over by a runaway horse. Thus starts her fall into what she considers the twilight zone. Nate is not actually a fisherman, which leads to issues later. There is a blind cow in love with Nate, a B & B operating on an honor system and many more delightful things happening in this town that will make you laugh in delight. Nate and Khloe go into a relationship with their eyes open but both of them lacking all the facts. They spend time burning up the sheets and falling in love before realizing there is no turning back. The characters are really great and leave a lasting impression.

Hooked on You is a fun book with an entertaining cast of characters!
Kira and Nate both find an unexpected family in the group of people living in the bed and breakfast her grandmother owned. She is in town because her grandmother passed away and she is supposed to sell the B&B. There she meets Nate and thinks he's a local fisherman. However, he's the CEO of the company Hooked.
The attraction between them is immediate and quickly grows stronger as they spend time together. Neither had the greatest family growing up, so it was sweet to see them so supportive of each other. I hope there are more books to come!
Small town romances are a favorite of mine. Especially one that has you loving the characters and wanting to be part of their lives. This is a sweet story that didn’t really suck me. It did have some cute and funny moments mixed with romance that many will surely love. While it may not have been for me, I do encourage others to give it a read as it may be the perfect getaway. I will be checking out other stories by this author.

This book gave me all the east coast feels. It was sweet and quirky with just the right amount of steam!✨

Keira has returned to Lunenburg to sell her grandmothers B&B. What she doesn’t expect is for it to be filled with fisherman and running itself. She also doesn’t expect to be knocked over by a handsome fisherman. But what she comes to learn is he isn’t a fisherman and perhaps his intentions aren’t as pure as she thought.✨
.
This was a cute story. Keira is a bit lost. Struggling with insecurities and grief. Nate is there to do a job and the last thing he expected was to find such a deep connection with Keira. The two have chemistry you can feel from the very beginning and when it finally ignites, it is quite steamy. That Nate I enjoyed. He is sweet, chivalrous, sexy and quite the dirty talker.✨
.
In fact many of the supporting characters had quite the dirty humour. But in the funniest of ways. The additional characters really brought this story to life. Especially Sam, what a hoot he was. He definitely needs his own story. While I did feel this story was a little predictable, I really enjoyed the coastal small town feel. Horses running loose and blind cow crushes didn’t hurt either. Check it out if you enjoy a humorous, sweet and sexy romance.✨

Thank you to the author, @GrandCentralPub, @ReadForeverPub and @netgalley for this complimentary ARC for my honest review.✨
This is the first book by this author for me. I did like that Sam and Jason. Sam was super fun and made me want to get to know him more. I can honestly say I don't think I have ever read a book based in Canada and it made me want to go to this small town and get to see it. This book is told in the first person, the author does list who is talking so that does help. Over all I was not a huge fan of this book I found the book completely predictable and it just really was not for me. This book also has a ton of strong language and sex throughout, so it may not suitable for all.
Family isn't always who you're born into, but who you choose to be with. Nate isn't fond of his family, in fact he actively avoids them. He's looking to change the way they do business and take the company to the next level. Kira is looking for closure and to finish work on her theorem. Coming back to where she was happiest to say goodbye to her Gram takes some unexpected turns, starting with a run away horse.
It was an okay read. Kira is suppose to sell her grandmothers B&B however she's not sure she wants to and Nate is trying to buy her grandmothers art studio they don't know each others professions and its causes tension. **************I received an ARC for my honest opinion.************
3.5 stars. I really enjoyed many aspects of this story. I absolutely love this town and all of the characters that live there! I want to learn more about them and hear their stories too! I liked Nate and Kira and their love for each other and the town. I struggled a bit with the level of extreme instalust at the beginning, as well as their lack of communication. However, I at least understood why they were hiding things from each other, so I didn't totally dislike the trope like I often do.
I would recommend this book to people who enjoy small town romances and mistaken identities.
Hooked on You by Cathryn Fox is the story of bookish mathematician Kira who comes to a small fishing town in Nova Scotia to sell her late grandmother's B&B. What she doesn't expect is that in the year since her grandmother passed that the B&B has continued to run on the honor system among fisherman who come into to work for the different seasons. Kira is nearly taken out her first day and is saved by a man she assumes is a fisherman, Nate. Kira and Nate feel instantly connected but are both in the small town for different reasons and have no intention of staying. But as they get even closer and the town embraces them both will they be able to walk away?
Kira is a smart girl who deserves to be loved and appreciated as the caring person she is. She enters into a physical relationship with Nate but it almost immediately is more than that, although neither wants to believe it. She continuously puts herself down which is a bummer because she is a kindhearted person who accidentally gets engulfed by a fishing family.
Nate is a frustrating character to say the least. He so regularly puts himself down saying he isn't good enough for Kira and chooses to hide so many important things about himself rather than give her the chance to prove herself.
I struggled with this story on a lot of fronts. I didn't feel connected to the main characters and more appreciated the interactions with the other fishermen and the towns people. The intimate moments were not my speed and I struggled to feel a real connection between the main characters. The story felt as though it dragged in some places and was completely rushed in others.
Sweet, steamy and satisfying:
Charming, funny and entertaining; small town romance at its best! I loved getting to know all of the B&B and town residents and how everyone banded together to help Kira and honour Grams.
Nate and Kira are so cute together, however they have convinced themselves that they could never have that kind of a future and they are also keeping secrets from one another. It was fun seeing them grow close and watching their hearts and reservations melt. I was so happy when they finally overcome the obstacles and embraced the possibilities before them.
I'd love to return to this quaint Nova Scotia fishing village as there are some delightful characters that it'd be fun to get to know more.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
This was a quirky, enjoyable small town romance that was full of interesting and zany characters who regularly use lobster as currency and whose knees can forecast storms, not to mention runaway horses and blind cows with crushes; and I was engaged throughout.
And with little angst, a sweet and absorbing romance and plenty of charm, this really was a delightful and whimsical story. That I would recommend to others, especially if you're looking for something light, easy, and comforting to read.
