This is a sweet story about two sisters, Harper and Willa, who own a coffee shop together. The two sisters have been through a lot: they lost their mother at a young age, and their father is overcome with grief, and Harper is in remission from cancer. Then Sean O'Malley walks into their shop, and their lives. Harper insists that Willa give Sean a chance, and they begin a relationship. Readers will be enchanted by Macomber's story of family and love.
Debbie Macomber writes the best small town story with heart and a sense of community. She did a great job with that in this book. She also made me ugly cry. That being said, there were some flaws and the biggest one is the ending - it was abrupt and not enough. I needed more resolution after feeling like that. I will recommend it to others and can't wait to see if they feel the same way I do.
Be ready and have a box of tissues next to you. Debbie Macomber doesn't disappointment in this book. A book full of emotion, love and family that will leave you wanting more. I did not want this story to end and if you have never read Debbie Macomber before you have to do yourself a favor and pick this book up. I loved the story and highly recommend.
This was one of the strongest, most compelling Debbie Macomber books that I’ve ever read.
Willa happily runs her coffee shop, Bean There, on the beachy shore of Oceanside. Harper, her sister/best friend/roommate, often hangs around the coffee shop, often stepping in to assist Willa when Willa is short-staffed. Harper is happy and she embraces life to the fullest. Harper is also beautiful and has her share of male admirers. Willa is not as pretty as her sister and is often in the background as Harper embraces the spotlight.
Harper and Willa have an unusual relationship because Willa is more of a mother to Harper. Their mom died when they were younger, and Willa stepped in as the role of the mother – especially since their father suffered from alcoholism.
When handsome Sean comes into the coffeeshop, Harper feels that he is the perfect match for her sister. Willa is leery about Harper’s matchmaking skills as she spends time with Sean.
But, when drastic, traumatic and tragic events occur, the lives of all of the characters are drastically altered. Reading this book will make you appreciate your friends and family – be grateful for these relationships because things can drastically change in a short amount of time.
This was a strong, emotional book that I’m sure will be the number one beach read for the summer.
I wish to thank Net Galley and the Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine Books for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. I have voluntarily read and reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is another written by an author that really is a story teller. In these days of loss, stress and health issues this is an all too familiar subject. It sometimes is a real tearjerker. But, it was one that draws you in while breaking your heart. The strength and bond of family and a small town rallying around its own is powerful . Once again, Debbie makes you want to move there and have coffee and mouth watering pastries in the precious coffee shop. If you are a pet lover this one will grab you and if not you might find yourself at a shelter looking for a new best friend. It has a lovely romance. There is something for everyone and Debbie does not ever disappoint. Be sure to have a box of tissues handy. You will not want to put this down.
This is what I want from a Debbie Macomber book....an escape from reality with a good romance and lots of emotion. This was a strong story of sisterly love, family, finding love and dealing with loss. I will continue to grab anything Macomber writes. Perfect summer read but have tissues at hand! Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion!
Get you tissues ready and settle in with this beautiful, emotional, story! Debbie Macomber does it again; she's created characters you'll fall in love with and a story line that will draw you in from the first page and keep you there thill the last. Warning, this is a 1 day read...you won't be able to put it down! (P.S. I could see this one as the kick off of a new series!?! Fingers crossed!) ;)
Macomber's latest novel, A Walk Along the Beach, is the perfect beach read and refreshing for those who want a mental getaway. Willa, a coffee shop owner, leads a simple life. She lives in a coastal community with her sister, Harper, as her roommate. She works long hours, and other than her family, happily keeps to herself. Until one day when Sean saunters in for a coffee, and Willa's life forever changes.
The story is believable, the characters are likable, and this book was just what I needed during such a turbulent time. Although it isn't always lighthearted, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great summer read. Thank you NetGalley for an arc of this refreshing book.
Willa is a coffee shop owner in Oceanside, and lives with her sister Harper. They are very close, and Willa has been taking care of Harper like a mother since their mom died of Leukemia and their father dealt with his grief by drowning his sorrows in alcohol. Willa meets Sean, and the two instantly click. While this is a romance, it is also about family, sibling love, and dealing with loss.
It was nice to find some familiar characters - Oceanside and some of the characters were featured in another Macomber book, “Cottage by the Sea.” It is a stand-alone book, so no worries if you haven’t read “Cottage by the Sea.”
Be prepared to be moved, to even possibly cry - there are some scenes that really reach in and tear at your heart. No spoilers, but I really loved the gesture Sean made with his Christmas “gift” to Willa.
If you are a fan of Debbie Macomber’s books, this one will not disappoint - if you have never read one, this would be a great place to start!
I received a copy of this book through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
Willa loved her little coffee shop in Oceanside. She lived with her younger sister and everything was going great.
Willa was noticing a gentleman who was coming into her shop regularly. Overtime she and Sean developed a friendly relationship. Willa decided she was too busy to get involved with a travel photographer.
One day Willa’s sister,Harper, was not feeling well. Harper had successfully recovered from cancer a few years ago. Was this something new or was the cancer back?
Willa had to be strong for her sister. Who could she count on?
This was a great story of love and devotion. The characters are very real and endearing.
Debbie Macomber did not disappoint!
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I have read and loved all of Macomber's books. This one I have gone back to at least five times and just can't seem to get into it. I will try again when it comes out in audio.
A Walk Along the Beach is a heart wrenching story about love and dealing with a loved one fighting cancer. You'll feel the love and pain right along with the characters in this story. Dealing with life and love can be a daily battle.
This was a predictable romance novel - sometimes I’m in the mood for them, sometimes not! So, I enjoyed the first part of the book - getting to know the characters and setting the scene, but was a little bored by the end of the book.
I received a free e-ARC of this book from Netgalley.
I was expecting a lighthearted romance type of summer book, but was emotionally-overwhelmed at the plot line of a sister dying from cancer as one of my own sisters is currently battling cancer. I cried a lot reading this book, but still I needed to finish reading it. It wrung me out. So I wouldn't classify it as a light read, but it was well written.
Willa has been her family’s rock ever since her mother’s early death and her younger sister’s bout with leukemia. Between taking care of her family and starting her own business, she has had little time for herself.
Sean became a successful freelance photographer, often traveling to remote parts of the world, following his brief professional baseball career. He hasn’t been in a relationship, since ending a bad one after his baseball career ended. However, he was immediately attracted to Willa from the first moment he saw her.
They begin dating after Sean, finally, gets up the nerve to ask Willa out. Unfortunately, his frequent travels prevent the relationship from progressing as quickly as either would like. Then, Willa’s sister’s cancer returns with a vengeance, and Sean’s constant absence does not make the heard grow fonder.
Willa is devastated after her sister’s death. She ends her relationship with Sean. She says it is because he wasn’t there to support her, but she is really afraid of loving and losing someone else. Will a determined Sean be able to win a stubborn Willa back?
Harper and Willa are sisters with a close bond. They have been through a lot in their lives. I loved all the characters in this book. It was a very emotional and sad story, have the tissues handy. This is a story about family bonds and love. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
I've read several of Debbie Macomber's books and A Walk Along the Beach is by far, her best yet.
A Walk Along the Beach offers readers a beautifully written story with an equally stunning cast of characters. I love how Debbie Macomber wove the different characters into the story - we have the dynamic between sisters Willa and Harper, then we get to meet their brother, Lukas, and their father, each offering their own unique observations. This storyline weaves the obstacles families face when confronted with loss (in all its different forms).
We also have the beautiful relationship between Willa and Sean. We cheer them on as they carefully embrace new love and feel their angst and joy as their relationship blossoms and overcomes a few hurdles.
A Walk Along the Beach is full of emotion and will have the reader laughing and crying many times throughout the story. It’s a wonderful book that can easily be read in a day or a weekend.
As someone who recently experienced a deep loss, this book left an indelible imprint on my heart.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Love this author. This book was so heartfelt and knowing how much the siblings loved each other. I was surprised what happened in the book.
I requested to read and review this book A Walk Along the Beach. This was written by Debbie Macomber. Wow this book is amazing. So many emotions will be felt by the reader. This book will keep you guessing until the end. What a powerful book about the bond of sisters and love. This book makes you think about life and making sure you have no regrets. Any reader can read this. And can be read anywhere!! You definitely will not want to put it down.
A Walk Along the Beach is yet another beautifully and skillfully written novel by Debbie Macomber, long one of my favorite authors. I just could not put this book down! The loving bond between sisters Willa and Harper, and their brother Luke, reminds me of the special bonds my husband and I have with our brothers and their wives. And of the special bond our daughters have, as well as my mom and her sisters. Simply put, A Walk Along the Beach is a skillfully woven tale of family love. Willa, who had to raise her siblings, continues to nurture them even as they are all adults. The charming town they live in on the Washington state coast is one where everyone knows each other. This book tells us the story of Willa and her siblings, and also of the developing and deep relationship Willa forms with Sean, a local photographer. While she is slow to trust, she eventually develops deep feelings for Sean, while at the same time dealing with friction in her relationship with sister Harper. The many facets of these characters, and the huge challenges they face later in the story, all contribute to this being a book readers won't want to put down until the very last word. I highly recommend A Walk Along the Beach to Debbie Macomber fans.
