Willa runs a small coffee shop on Oceanside, WA, and shares an apartment with her sister Harper, a yoga instructor who is a cancer survivor. Harper encourages Willa to get to know one of her customers, Sean, and they start dating. But then Harper appears to be getting sick again, and Sean is always traveling for his work. Will Sean be there for Willa when she needs him? Can Harper beat cancer for a second time? Debbie writes another novel with well-drawn characters you'll care about. Thanks to Netgalley and to the publisher for this ARC.
Have your tissues ready!
A longtime reader and lover of anything Debbie Macomber writes, I was thrilled to receive an ARC of her newest title, A Walk Along the Beach. This particular title has it all - family, love, drama, and tears all wrapped up in an emotional story.
Willa has been taking care of her family since her mother died. Her sister, Harper is her roommate and closest friend, in remission from cancer.
In addition, Willa runs the local coffee shop, Bean There, where she meets Sean, a photographer who quickly captures her heart. His work and her schedule, and unexpected responsibilities for her family make it hard for them - how will the couple overcome obligations and being apart?
The characters and their relationships, how they pull together through their losses is something Macomber always does well. Beautiful ending, I especially enjoyed the second half of the book. I give this title 4.5 stars!
A WALK Along The Beach is a winner in my book. I thought the characters were believable. I loved the storyline of the siblings and their struggles. This book tells us that life us real and not always pretty. I really enjoyed this book as I always do with a new "Debbie". Thanks netgalley for the gift of the arc. The opinions are my own.
The story was both heartbreaking and uplifting. Things don’t always turn out like you plan but this family made it work till it didn’t anymore. I like the story was based in the Northwest, going from Seattle to their home was a story in a story. I will say you’ll need a box of tissues for this read but it’s worth it in the end. I did not expect the feeling to be so much.
I received an eARC of A Walk Along the Beach by Debbie Macomber from Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
Debbie has done it again! She has woven another moving and heartwarming story. Keep the tissues close! I give this book 4 stars.
Gahhhh the ending was too quick. I wanted more of them together finally. 4.5 stars

The queen of conversation and small-town life has brought together another wonderful story. This one is definitely a story that pulls on your heartstrings and became an emotional read.
With family being the top of the list for most people, reading through this story about illness and loss was sometimes tough. And while the strength of a good strong person next to you can sometimes help, many times we have to go out alone.
With strong characters and great love for one another, the story of just every day people hit home for me. I shed many tears towards the end of the book and while I wished the ending was longer, I guess I should be happy for the ending we were given. But I did want more. I felt it was very abrupt and I wasn’t expecting that to be the ending.
McComber gives us some down home comfort with the sense of close knit family and community in this beautiful story. Plenty of conversation and chitchat makes you feel right at home.
Definitely check out A Walk Along the Beach this summer if you love a great McComber story.
I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
Macomber always writes a heart tugging book that grabs you and draws you into the lives of the characters.
Willia's mother dies and Willa raises her sister Harper and brother Lucas. After mothers death daddy grabs the bottle for solace.
Willa runs a bake shop that everyone loves. Sean, a free-lance photographer comes in for coffee every day - even if he hates coffee just to see Willa...…. finally finding the courage to ask her out. A beautiful romance begins but with it comes issues they must deal with. Can love conquer all?
Debbie Macomber used to be on my top ten authors list. Sadly the last few books I have read by hers have been big disappointments and this one falls into that category. I could not get into the characters in this story and found the whole thing depressing.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for and honest review. I enjoyed this book because it is about 2 sisters. Willa is an introvert, like me, her sister Harper wants to live life to the fullest, and their brother Lucas is always there for them. I so enjoyed Sean coming into the coffee shop when I realized he didn't even like coffee but wanted to see Willa everyday.
All the people had their own lives, their own struggles but they were there for each other. This isn't a happily ever after book. It is about life and as we know life can be messy and sometimes not so kind but life still has to go on. I give it a 5 star because Debbie didn't sugar coat it, she told the story the way life is sometimes. I also loved the book because I too like to take a walk along the beach to clear my head, relax or just at the end of a very long day. There is just something about a walk along the beach.
Five BIG stars! Wonderful story about two sisters, their love for each other, and the difficult waters of finding their independence from each other. Unlike Macomber’s other novels, where the main focus is a love story, this really focuses on the complicated relationship between the two sisters... with love interests being more of a side note. Debbie Macomber is a natural storyteller and I found myself reading into the wee hours of the morning. Highly recommend!
A Walk Along the Beach is the story of siblings who love one another and want to help each other through difficult times. Willa finds herself at a loss until she meets Sean. Harper loves life and her sister. She's been through cancer and wants to live life to the fullest. Lucas wants nothing more than to marry his sweetheart. Macomber weaves together a beautiful family tale filled with love. If you enjoy Debbie's writing, you'll love this story.
Debbie Macomber weaves wonderful stories and A Walk Along the Beach is no exception. Willa, Harper and Lucas are close siblings. When their mother died Willa became the "mother". Now years later they face another family crisis. Powerful story of a family and how they rely on each other for strength and love. Would definitely recommend.
Although I did enjoy A Walk Along the Beach by Debbie Macomber, I didn't feel that it was up to her usual standards. Some parts of the story seemed forced, such as the relationship between Willa and Sean (and how did she come up with Willa for a name? That threw me throughout the novel!) and the odd mother/daughter relationship between Willa and Harper. Also, when Sean's mother came in and immediately accepted her as a prospective daughter-in-law was too forward and strange. However, Debbie always manages to wring a few tears out of me by the end of her books and this one was no different. She can tear at your heartstrings like no other!
Thank you to the author, Random House and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel for my honest review.
I didn't feel for the characters which, for me, is most important in a story like this. The love story didn't move me. The sisters had more of a mother/ daughter relationship which just doesn't work
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc
Well, all I can say is, this made for a very moving, touching and heartbreaking read. A very emotional journey that will have you laughing and crying. A beautiful story of hope, second chances and forgiveness.
Sisters Willa and Harper are the main characters. They have been best friends since their mother passed away. Their bond has always been strong but with Harpers leukemia diagnosis, Willa becomes very overprotective of Harper. Sometimes this overprotectiveness gets to be too much for Harper.
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House-Ballentine and author, Debbie Macomber, for the opportunity to read and review this book.
another solid read by one great author. All of her books are so pleasant to read and this was no exception. Well written and absorbing.
A Walk Along the Beach is a story that focuses on two sisters named Harper and Willa. Willa is the more subdued sister who owns a coffee shop while Harper is the more vivacious sister who works at the coffee shop and also is a yoga instructor. Willa is very protective of her sister who is in remission from cancer. At the start of the story Harper plays match maker between Willa and one of her customers at her coffee shop named Sean. Sean is a retired pro-ball player who now is a photographer which entails travel all around the world for his various assignments. All of the characters are easy to engage with. I loved that Sean came to Willa's coffee place and ordered Americanos even though he hates coffee! It's those little details that flesh out the characters and make you fall in love with them. Forgiveness is another theme that is interwoven through this novel when Sean lets Willa down as well as the forgiveness that the sisters' have to find for their father who is an alcoholic. I enjoyed the novel but couldn't give it a full 5 starts because there were some events in the book that were there to hit you emotionally but those events were too predictable.
As we all in the women's fiction and romance world know you cannot go wrong with any Debbie Macomber books. Willa and Harper are two sisters who could not be closer. Since Harper's Illness scare them three years ago but the sisters were closer than ever. Willa (the heroine) owns a local coffee in the Oceanside are of Washington state. Sean has been coming to the coffee shop Bean there not for the coffee but to see Willa, it takes him awhile to speak to her and so begin their friendship that turns into romance. The main storyline deals with Harper's illness returning and how the sisters their brother Lucas and their father deals with a loved one being ill.. Sean was a sweet (hero) he was loyal and devoted to Willa not long after they started dating. We also get to revisit the main characters from the book "(Cottage by the sea) since this book is in the same Oceanside world as that book. The storyline not only deals with Harper's illness but a character overcoming alcoholism and even with all the overtone of sadness in the book we witness a wedding happening. Review on goodreads.
This was classic Debbie Macomber that I love! This was a heartbreaking story that I cried through most of it.
The story of Willa and her sister Harper- their bond and a cancer diagnosis. Paired with a mother’s untimely death, alcoholism and a romance on shaky ground this book was all about love.
I’ve always been a fan of Macomber for her sweet stories but recently they’ve missed the mark for me- I’m glad this one didn’t disappoint, I really liked this book.
Put this on your July 2020 TBR. Thanks to Netgalley for my advanced ebook copy.
Willa and her sister Harper are best of friends. Harper finds a guy for Willa. Then this is all interrupted by Harpers illness. a powerful read. You will smile and cry. A great story of families and love.
