This was a wonderful standalone novel. I was extremely invested in the characters and could not wait to see what would happen next.

I would highly recommend this book but be forewarned you are going to want a box of tissues towards the end as you will be crying a bit.

I usually enjoy Debbie Macomber's books but found this one hard to get into. It's mainly about the relationship between two sisters, Willa and Harper. When their mother died unexpectedly, Willa took on the role of mom and did her best to keep the family together. Harper has had health issues in the past and that causes Willa to be overprotective. When Willa meets Sean, a freelance photographer, she is stunned at how much he comes to mean to her but their love is not without obstacles.

A Walk Along the Beach is the heartwarming story of Willa, her Sister Harper, and Sean, a photographer who comes into Willa's life. All of these relationships will be tested Harper when Harper is diagnosed with cancer. What follows is a story full of sickness, heartbreak, love, and second chances . A Walk Along the Beach has all of the elements that you've come to expect from a Debbie Macomber book: likeable, complex characters and a solid, interesting plot.

Willa Lakey was forced into taking care of her siblings after their mother dies of an illness. With their father unable to cope, the children are left in Willa's capable hands, despite her only being a teenager.

Willa's sister Harper has had her own set of challenges to overcome. Will her sister be able to let Harper make her own choices and be an adult?

As Willa comes to certain realizations about her life, will an unexpected chance at happiness be what the young woman needs to move forward?

Although the story is not all that unique, the author does a good job of conveying the feelings and emotions of her main characters. The story itself is hampered by a plot, sluggish in places and overly explained in others. A Walk Along the Beach is a quick read and, although the author does a good job of emotionally connecting the characters to the reader, the story itself is a bit lacking. For these reasons, I would be hesitant to recommend the novel to other readers.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy by NetGalley and the publisher, Ballantine Books. The choice to review this book was my own.

You really feel the emotions of this book as you read about the Lakey family. The two sisters are so close, but very opposite. You suffer with Harper as her cancer reoccurs and The family rallies around her. You are pulling for Willa and Sean to find happiness together. All this, as you walk along the beach with them. A heartfelt story of love, loss and grief.

3.5-3,75⭐️

This is the story of two sisters, Willa and Harper, as they navigate through adulthood. They lost their mother when they were young so Willa had taken over the role of mother. Their father turned to alcohol to cope. Then Harper was diagnosed and beat cancer. Their father fought to get sober and Willa opened her dream business.

Willa and Harper thought all of their hard times were behind them but circumstances give them another hurdle to pass.

I really liked this story. I liked the characters. I have actually not read a lot from this author but this book makes me want to give her more of a try. The only negative I have is that I felt like the romance part of the story was a little rushed but overall a good read.

I received this book for free in exchange for my unbiased opinion

Willa Lakey has faced her share of grief and trauma, losing her mother when just a child and then watching her sister fight a severe case of leukemia. Willa cared for her siblings, Harper and Lucas, often putting their needs in front of her own, as their father was not capable of providing the parental care they needed.

As adults, Harper and Lucas have embraced life, taking risks and being adventurous, while Willa continually takes the safe and predictable route. Her life, however, is thrown a loop when she meets photo journalist Sean O’Malley. He is more spontaneous and unpredictable than Willa likes, yet she is highly attracted to him, causing her to have internal chaos.

Life of course is unpredictable, and no matter how much Willa tries to keep it neat and orderly, unexpected events occur that greatly impact Willa, her family, and her relationship. Overall, A Walk Along The Beach, is a multifaceted love story where each character reconciles their priorities. A few parts seemed rushed or disconnected but overall, a solid story that will stay in the reader’s mind after finishing it.

Every time I crack open a Macomber book, I know it is going to be a beautiful, sometimes heartbreaking, story with strong feelings of community and that special hometown feel. A Walk Along the Beach fits that description 100%.

Willa has put her life on hold to help raise her sister and brother. Just when they hit adulthood, Willa once again must help her sister through a life-altering medical battle. So, Willa has put her dreams of a coffee shop on hold, until now. She has a chance to start her bakery/coffee shop and be the roommate to her sister Harper, instead of her caretaker.

Harper, on the other hand, is all about living life to her fullest. She is not going to let fear or anything stop her from her goals. She pushes Willa to focus on her dreams instead of her but pushing her out of her comfort zone and face that hunky new customer, Sean O’Malley.

Sean is a photographer who ends up in Willa’s coffee shop. Can he win her heart and show her some things are worth the risk?

A Walk Along the Beach runs you through the gambit of emotions. Macomber has the ability to turn fictional characters into friends and family members, fully investing her readers in the plight of the characters. If Macomber writes it, I am going to read it, it is that simple.

Love me a good Macomber! And this one didn’t disappoint! Good story line, and as they put it in the narrative, “family is everything”. Great read and highly suggest you add it to your bookshelf!

Honestly, I have never met a Debbie Macomber novel I didn't enjoy. This was no exception. This touching story about two sisters with great characterization and a really good premise is a great way for long time Macomber lovers to re-met a great author and new readers to fall in love with her writing.

Another book set in Oceanside. Willa runs the local coffee shop. When Sean becomes a regular customer things seem to be happening but family things get in the way. ARC from NetGalley.

Another truly heartwarming and emotional story by Macomber, something you can always count on. I was really struck by her author's note and sadness at losing her friend to cancer. It truly touches everyone.

This was a really heartwarming book, as most of Debbie Macomber's are. It is about three siblings forced to grow up quickly after the death of their parents. As adults, Willa has a coffee shop business but wants to expand and do more in the community. There is also some romance involved with a photographer that she meets. I loved the characters, the family bonds, and this sweet story overall.
