Another great story buy a great author. I always look forward to this authors books being released and this one didn’t disappoint. I first saw this author when one of her books had been turned into a Hallmark movie.
I would recommend reading all of her writing.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.
A Walk Along the Beach by Debbie Macomber will bring out all kinds of emotions. The story centers on Willa, the oldest sister in a family of three siblings that lost their mother when she was a teen. Willa ended up raising her youngest sister, who is now her roommate and also a cancer survivor. A handsome stranger shows up, that Willa begins dating, in their town of Oceanside. Of course, this relationship is not smooth-sailing. Enter about halfway through the story when a tragedy strikes that you will definitely need to make sure you have tissues handy. While this is a sweet love story, there is also a super heavy-duty storyline playing out that will tear up the reader's emotions. I was not expecting this and was gutted, but still recommend reading this book. There is a beautiful family theme and a lot to think about.
Thank you netgalley for allowing me to read this early. I've read a few books by Debbie Macomber and they never disappoint. She's a fabulous writer and this one was no different. So excited to share this one with people i know :)
Debbie Macomber’s A Walk Along the Beach is a poignant story of family, love, friendship, and heartache. Willa Lakey, at the young age of thirteen, became the caretaker of her younger brother Lucas and sister Harper after their mother’s untimely death. Their grieving father couldn’t handle the loss and sank into alcoholism. Harper is a cancer survivor having contracted leukemia a few years earlier. The two sisters are close and share an apartment. Willa is quiet and serious, while her sister is happy-go-lucky and lives life as if there were no tomorrow. Harper works as a yoga instructor when she isn’t preparing to climb Mount Rainier and Willa owns Bean There, a local coffeeshop, in the small town of Oceanside, Washington. But when Harper’s cancer returns, the whole family pulls together to face whatever may come.
Sean O’Malley has become a regular at the coffee shop, even though he doesn’t care for coffee. Harper believes that Sean and Willa belong together and convinces Willa to go talk to her customer. When Willa realizes she has feelings for Sean, her love is threatened by his job as a photojournalist, which takes him to far off, remote places, often so remote there is no way to contact him.
A Walk Along the Beach has wonderful and rich characters, as well as, a plot that will make you laugh and then bring you to tears. My only complaint is it ended too soon. This is my favorite Macomber novel by far. I read it in one sitting. Books that have sisters among the main characters are high on my “to read” list. This one certainly did not disappoint me.
This was a cute, light read. Not super engrossing, but it was a fun end-of-summer romance. Debbie Macomber books are always so lovely and escapist and are perfect when paired with a warm breeze and an ocean view.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Ballantine for the ARC. I usually like Macomber's books, but this one was too depressing and the story felt too contrived. The main character Willa has had too much tragedy in her life. I didn't buy the instant-love the hero has for her. The characters didn't feel real, it was almost as if the author just churned out another book too meet a deadline or maybe had someone else write this one for her??
A Walk Along The Beach by Debbie Macomber
This was a very emotional book. Willa and Harper, sisters, become very close after losing their mom. This story takes you on their adventure with happiness and sadness , and how they coped with it.
Thanks to Net Galley for sending me an advanced reader’s copy to review.
Thank you, Netgalley and the publisher for a chance to read this advanced copy.
WOW, Debbie Macomber NEVER disappoints, and this novel is spot on! I got TOTALLY engrossed with the characters and this was just a very nice emotional read that took me away for a bit out of the stress of current day events. I highly recommend this for any Debbie Macomber fan, or anyone that is new to her novels.
I love most things written by Debbie Macomber, and while I did enjoy A Walk Along the Beach, it was not one of my favorites. The subject matter is weighty, and I feel that in dealing with the central topic, some of the character development (which is what I love about her books) is lacking. I feel most issues I had could have been resolved by making the book longer. The problem with that is then people will complain it's too long. It's a balancing act I'm glad I don't have to do. I did enjoy the setting, and fans will recognize some familiar faces, even though this is not technically part of a series. Even with what I see as shortcomings, this is still an excellent story by one of my favorite authors.
I received a copy of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I fell in love with these character from the beginning. The descriptive writing that Debbie Macomber is known for had me craving hot coffee and warm pastries. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC it made the perfect read for my beach bag. Touching story and memorable characters. I can’t wait for your next masterpiece!
Thank you NetGalley for a chance to read this books for an honest review. I am an absolute fan of Debbie Macomber. She has a way of writing that draws you in to the story where you feel like you are right there with everything that is happening. This book did not disappoint. I laughed, cried and felt like I was part of the family. You won't want to miss this book!!!
Another wonderful story by Debbie Macomber, I think this was my favorite one yet. Be prepared with tissues as you read this story. The characters grab you right from the start to the last page.
This was one of Debbie Macomber's best works! It's a story, set on the Washington coast, of two sisters. The older sister has always been a mother figure to the younger, who has survived a bout of cancer. She owns her own coffee shop, and i's a bit over-protective of her sister. As a result, she's had little time for romance of her own. But, a handsome photographer has caught her eye, and he seems interested. So, this is a story with some romance, but also a great view of relationships between family members. It was uplifting in many ways, yet also had some gut-wrenching parts. The story line moves easily and makes for a fast read. Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended!
Very nice story! Definitely a tear jerker though. I always enjoy reading Debbie Macomber and this book didn't disappoint. The characters are so well written and you really get attached to them. Highly recommended!
A Walk Along the Beach by Debbie Macomber was a good book. She has such a great writing style and I always enjoy her stories. This was a heartfelt emotional story that was well written. The story is so well developed, and you really can feel the character’s emotions. Cancer and its tragic journey, a tough subject, and very emotional. This was well handled with these two sisters. I recommend reading this book.
I received an advanced copy from NetGalley for my honest review.
Warning Kleenex will be needed. The story of two sisters Willa and Harper will warm your heart but also tear it apart. Having 3 sisters myself I can appreciate the special bond that we share. I read this book in 1 day. I don’t want to spoil anything so just read it.#AWalkAlongTheBeach #Netgalley
What an amazing book. I have to admit, it wasn't what I expected, but I really picked it up because of the author. This was an wonderful read. I made me laugh, smile, cry, and sigh. Willa lost her mother as a young teenager. She took her place and "mothered" everyone when her father couldn't cope. She especially took on the responsibility of watching over her younger sister Harper. Harper was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was a teenager and Willa has always worried about her. Harper is the vivacious, pretty sister (or so Willa thinks). Then Sean comes into Willa's life and sweeps her off her feet. This books has highs where all is well and then come the lows where Willa struggles. This is a story about surviving and growing and learning to let others in. Wonderful.
I love Debbie Macomber and the way she can tell a story. She always reels me in and keeps me turning the page. The characters are flawed as we all are but there is love in the people of the story. Wonderful, heart warming, and oh so emotional.
Perfect summer beach read by Debbie Macomber.
I received a free copy from the the publisher and Netgalley.
An emotional book. Sisters Willa and Harper have gone through the worst together and now are ready for good things to happen. For Willa, she has opened her own coffee/bakery. She enjoys seeing the people come in everyday. Harper is the risk taker. She has gone bungee jumping and plans to climb Mt. Ranier. This has Willa's spidy senses going off. Now Sean O'Malley comes in everyday for coffee and a cinnamon roll. He does this because Willa has captured his heart. As a photographer he travels the world but Oceanside is home. So Harper, ever playing the matchmaker, decides they would be perfect for each other. It all starts with A Walk Along the Beach. Falling in love was the easy part. Dealing with his job not so much, especially when she needed him the most. Can Willa open her heart to love again? Is is worth the risk when it was just ripped out? Will Sean have the patience to wait this storm out and be there for her?
I thought A Walk Along the Beach was a great read by Debbie Macomber. Exactly what I would expect by her work. Five stars.
