Following a massacre on a movie set and the murder of a border agent, Texas Ranger Sonny Hawke heads south to find the woman responsible for these and other deaths. Tacking down a powerful cartel leader in rural Coahilla leads to a plot with more twists and turns than a sidewinder--and the Devil Woman is even more deadly.
Pick this one if you are looking for a plot driven page turner where the good guy rights wrongs and stops crimes. Sonny Hawke is a Texas Ranger and he's quite the character. Don't worry if you haven't read the earlier books- this is fine as a standalone because Wortham gives you the info you need on the rapid ride that is this tale of a cartel, human trafficking, and frontier justice. Gun fire on a movie set leads to the unraveling of corruption. There are bad guys, there's action, there's all sorts of stuff- it would be a good movie. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Would be perfect for travel if we were doing that but it's also fine as an armchair escapist read.
I have had the pleasure of reading Hawke's Fury by Reavis Z. Wortham. It's the latest book in the series about Sonny Hawke Texas Ranger. In my mind it was the best so far. This one involves corrupt lawmen, drug and people trafficking and justice according to Sonny Hawke. I love all the works by this author and I strongly recommend everyone to try him out. Thanks to Netgalley, Kensington books and Pinnacle for letting me read this.
HAWKE’S FURY is the 4th book in the “Sonny Hawke Thriller” series based on a legendary border patrol agent in Texas who doesn’t seem to be able to avoid finding himself in dangerous situations, although it’s usually caused by his refusal to shy away from the perils that come his way & unfortunately has also resulted in danger to his loved ones and associates.
Sonny is on a movie set during an action set when suddenly real gunfire takes over where blanks had been used for the scene being filmed, and after the violent act takes place Sonny is assigned to an investigation that takes him south of the border to find out who is responsible, as evidence early on in the investigation reveals that this could be a result of a drug cartel’s involvement, but leaves the question of who initiated the violent action and why.
Several things take place where jurisdiction is a concern, and Sonny has to make some hard decisions about how far he’s willing to go in terms of pushing the envelope to be successful in capturing the responsible party, if he’s capable of doing so without falling short of the task as a result of capture by either the cartel or crooked law enforcement and military in the cartel’s pocket.
Can Sonny somehow safely return to the States with the responsible party, or has he finally put himself in a situation that he’s unable to get out of?
Reavis Z. Wortham has once again written a fine novel in this series that keeps interest up as a result of the action that remains fairly consistent in this one; yet never comes off feeling forced or contrived as is common in other action based novels.
Recommended to fans of border novels with a heavy dose of action and violence.
4 stars.

Someone has to take over for Reacher fans and Sonny Hawke could do it.
Good western flavor, enough twists to keep you reading
