A go to series that is always a fun read. Jill balancing Amy the bridezilla, historic status for part of her property and a mystery makes for a whirlwind of a read and a wonderful addition to the series.
Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of MURDER IN WAITING (Book 11 of the Tourist Trap Mysteries) by Lynn Cahoon in exchange for an honest review. Jill Gardner finds herself under stress. Amy, bridezilla and Jill’s best friend, is demanding Jill’s time, attention, and limited organizational skills in preparing for Amy’s upcoming wedding and bachelorette party. Meanwhile, the town’s newsletter just accused Jill’s business of being the sole reason for a significant increase in the town’s budget and resulting taxes to the local businesses. Jill’s bookstore then comes under repeated attack by vandals while land developers and their agents start to pressure Jill to sell her home. At about the same time as the South Cove Heritage Society rejects Jill’s application to have the mission wall on her property investigated to see if it has historical significance, a pushy travel guide writer begins badgering Jill about making the wall a tourist attraction. When someone murders a heritage society expert right in front of Jill, she calls shenanigans. It seems like the real estate problems must be related. Jill needs to conquer her land and business woes, so she can support Amy in her upcoming nuptials. Meanwhile, this busyness caused by all the nasty business causes some friction between Jill and her lover.
I enjoyed this book and like the series. Lynn Cahoon continues to provide the reader with all of the drama and intrigue of small town politics and society, murder, and, in this case, big business. I recommend this book to fans of the series. I recommend the series to fans of cozy mysteries featuring murder, small towns, bookstores, coffee shops, historic homes, quirky personalities, elder relatives with big personalities, small businesses, tourists, and loyal pets.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Another great Tourist Trap mystery! This time Jill is a bridesmaid for Amy's wedding and Amy is being kind of heinous, to be honest.
Jill is also having issues with the historical landmark society and meets someone who could be an ally until their killed in a hit and run!
I love the character interactions in this book. It's such a warm, fun vibe.
Murder in Waiting is a great addition to this addictive series by Lynn Cahoon.
When Jill prepares for a weekend getaway to Las Vegas, she has no idea that a murder suspect will be part of her celebration of her friends upcoming nuptials.
Greg and Jill are surrounded by lovebirds, which gets Jill thinking about her relationship with Greg and what the future will hold for them.
Overall, this is a fun cozy mystery, filled with quirky characters you will be happy to call your friends.
Murder in Waiting by Lynn Cahoon is the 11th addition to her Tourist Trap series and was a delight from beginning to end.
Jill is dealing with a lot in this book, her relationship with Greg, business issues, some one has spread the word that she wants to sell her house and then the mission wall has now been taken off of consideration for preservation. Then there is a murder or is it a tragic accident? A smooth and swiftly paced plot with plenty of twists and more than a few suspects These characters have become like friends to me and I always look forward to my next visit to South Cove. I loved the hint that Deek is saving up to attend a writers retreat in Colorado I think that would be fabulous to see Deek arrive at Cat Latimer's B&B.
When Frank from the historical society who has been working on validating Jill's historical wall gets run over in front of her and she starts experiencing pressure from local realtors to sell her house it's time to investigate. Between planning Amy's bachelorette party in Vegas and having her shop vandalized she has her hands full.
Will she figure out what's going on with the house, find Frank's killer and successfully pull off a party she didn't want to plan in the first place?
What fun! One of the best cozy series with characters who respect are intelligent, funny and realistic. Living all the characters from Toby & Deek to the mains. The ending was beautifully tied up
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc.
Jill Gardner owns Coffee, Books, & More in small-town South Cove, California. She has a house facing the beach that was left to her in a friend's will, and is living with Greg Kill, Sheriff of South Cove. Life is good. Or, at least it would be, if problems didn't keep cropping up around her.
She's doing her best as maid-of-honor to her best friend Amy, but Jill's not good at planning events. In fact, she's terrible at it. Which is why she's more than happy to leave it to her Aunt Jackie or her employee Deek at her shop. Unfortunately, they can't help her with this and since Amy wants her bachelorette party in Las Vegas, Jill's stuck. But there are other things she has to worry about at the present...
Like the realtors who want to buy her house...and the letter she received from the city council blaming her shop on fees being raised for the members...and the fact that she received a letter from the historical society stating that her mission wall wasn't going to be considered for historical significance anymore...or the author who creeps her out...or the attacks on her shop...or even the fact that Frank Gleason, who works for the Heritage Society, was just run down in front of her shop...
Now Jill has so much on her plate that it's not only running over, it's tipping upside down. And if she doesn't get everything straightened out and soon, not only will Amy's party be put on hold, but so will her life...permanently...
I have to say that I absolutely love this series and have been waiting for the next book to arrive. I've missed spending time with Jill and friends. For anyone who's read any of these, this one doesn't disappoint. There's quite a bit going on, and it all tangles up together like knotted thread and you have to patiently separate the pieces to see what belongs and what doesn't. It's a delightful mix of mystery, intrigue, and promises of what will come that pull you in from the beginning and keep you reading until the end.
I also have to disclose that I live in Las Vegas, so while I had to disagree with Jill about some of the best buffets (and we would never go to Fremont street since it smells like skunk permanently now), there's always something to do and things you see that make me just say "...only in Vegas..." I do like the fact that she realizes our police officers are right on the ball and have a strong presence here. I appreciate our men and women in blue like no other.
Okay, done with my opinions and back to the book: while Jill is confused about who is doing what when it comes to the Heritage Society, she doesn't understand why people think she'd even consider selling her home. And she seems to meet the mysterious author everywhere, even though she'd rather not. Once she figures out who might be behind some of it, she's able to get a handle on things and keep something under control, while trying to stay out of Greg's investigation.
I love the fact that Harrold has lessened Jackie's snarkiness toward people; he's a good influence on her, and Deek is beginning to grow on me, too. These are people I'd like to spend time with, and perhaps that's why I love this series so much.
When the ending comes and the killer is revealed, I did have an inkling that I might know who it was, and I'm happy to say I was right (but then again, I read a lot of mysteries so oh, well); yet it was put together delightfully and there was just enough to make it believable and enjoyable. The ending left us another surprise which I think anyone who knows these characters knew what it was leading up to anyway, and it gave us something else to look forward to in the long run. So now I have to wait patiently (unfortunately) for the next one to bring me back to South Cove. Highly recommended.
Jill Gardner is the maid of honor for her BFF’s wedding and the bachelorette party is coming up, if Jill can get handle on planning it and get everyone to Vegas. To top it all off, Jill has been waiting years to get the application approved to preserve an historic wall from the early days of South Cove on her property and it was denied. With so much on her plate, Jill doesn’t have time to fight bureaucracy or to figure out why she’s getting so many offers and so much pressure to sell her house. The house isn’t for sale and Jill will figure out what to do about the application after the trip to Vegas. When the rep from the historical society runs into Jill he lets her know it was a mistake and he will get it back on the list for approval…right before he is killed in front of her shop by a hit and run driver.
With no intention of investigating the murder, Jill stats to look into a few things, and before she knows it, she and Greg are sharing tidbits on the case. Between the hinted threats over selling the house and some strange attacks on the business, Jill may be in killers cross hairs and needs to proceed with caution. Normally her Aunt Jackie would be her biggest supporter throughout all of this, but she seems to be busy with her beau and is MIA. Can Jill and Greg figure it out before heading to Vegas, or will their luck run out?
Lynn Cahoon is one of my must read authors and this series just gets better and better. A great Summer read, or any time really!
Murder is Waiting is the eleventh book in the Tourist Trap Mystery series. I absolutely loved it. It amazes e how people do awful things to others in the name of greed.
There is a lot going on: Jill needs to plan a bachelorette party for Amy, keep herself safe, deal with sabotage of the business, and the status of her mission wall. Along with that she is trying to figure out her long-term relationship with Greg, and if Frank Gleason’s death was accidental or not.
I found it more about relationships but the mystery was there.
Love this series. Jill owne a coffee and book shop. This tourist trap series is the best and I hope lynn cahoon keeps this series going. Jill, greg and gang are a great bunch of characters.
I loved everything about this book. This is a go to series for me and this newest book didn't disappoint. Well established characters and a well written storyline make for a pleasant reading experience. A bridezilla, a trip to Vegas, murder what more can you ask for?
I loved this book!
In the latest delightful entry in the Tourist Trap mystery series, Jill, owner of Coffee, Books, and More, is in charge of putting together her best friend's bachelorette party, all the while dealing with the fact that the South Cove Heritage Society has just closed out her bid for historic status of her wall. Frank Gleason, her ally at the Heritage Society, is mowed down in front of her...and then more dastardly deeds begin to happen.
For fans of this series, I found this book to be charming and fun. Admittedly, the mystery was a bit light, but it was a good mix of mystery and the personal lives of the main characters we have grown to love. Jill, especially, grows a lot in this novel.
If you haven't read any of this series, I do not recommend starting with this one. While Ms. Cahoon does a good job of adding enough backstory that new readers won't feel lost, there is only so much she can do to summarize ten previous books plus 6 novellas. However, I do STRONGLY urge you to pick up the first novel in this series and catch up so you can read this latest, and, in my opinion, best volume of the series.
I was provided a preview copy of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
Jill is back in a full length story finally. This one is full of action. There seems to be a lot going on. Jill is being harassed at her shop and at her home. Someone wants her to sell her home. The mission wall' status as historic is in question. Amy is demanding her time as she is getting ready for her wedding. The story really keeps moving along and doesn't lag. I do enjoy the characters in the book; they always seem to be real. I did have a bit of a problem with the coincidence of all they same people ending up in Vegas at the same time at the same place. That was hard to believe. But overall it was another enjoyable book in this series.
A really enjoyable mystery series with characters I’ve grown to really like.
Jill owns a book/coffee store in California, is involved with the local detective, has great friends and her cantankerous aunt, who’s very dear to her. In this latest novel Jill’s best friend Amy has gone from her usual mellow self to bridezilla, and Jill is finding it hard to take. Not only that but her long awaited approval to designate her house a historic landmark is suddenly denied. Add to that a new murder, and Jill has too much on her plate, but as usual, she’s determined to solve the mystery. A Light hearted read, and the mysteries are always interesting. I recommend the entire series, but you don’t need to start from the beginning and can read each book as a stand-alone, and still really enjoy them.
