This was a cute collection of ideas and projects. As a new hand letterer I like having the project ideas laid out. The pictures and instructions were clear and easy to follow.
This is a great confidence building book for hand lettering projects. The instructions are clear with nice, detailed pictures. I appreciate the Lettering Refresh section where it shows the different brands and types of pens and what they do. The projects are simple but offer lots of inspiration for anyone who want to try their hand at lettering but don't know where or how to start.
This is a fun book with great ideas for incorporating hand lettering into projects beyond just on the page.
This book is full of adorable ideas for hand lettering projects. I am still a beginner at hand lettering and have been working through a couple of beginner level workbooks. However, the advice given at the beginning of this book was extremely helpful and tips that I have not found anywhere else. The items in this book include using a wide variety of materials to craft with. I never would have thought about hand lettering on a jean jacket! Each project also includes a list of the best materials to use on the specified medium. If you are interested in hand lettering but stuck on what to make - read this book! Even if you are a beginner like me, you'll want to check this out!
I wanted to like this. I really did. But everything I saw in this book I could find on Pinterest. She had some cute designs, but I don’t know that it’s worth purchasing the book. Her steps and suggested tools were helpful and I’m sure her first book, super simple hand lettering is helpful for those beginning to hand letter.
I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed are my own.
I requested this title mostly because we have a hand-lettering program at my librarian and I wanted to see if this would be a good book to promote and add to our collection.
This is a book of "projects" and not technique. That translates to certain phrases being shown to replicate for these specific uses, not more general technique to learn for your own composition or use.
As a person with zero creativity, I do like having these complete project outlines. Sometimes, though, the projects just aren't super practical or what I'm looking for. This book has a mix of both.
Thank you netgalley for the book!
This is my first book in this topic
Its always great to have some Guidance and inspiration
Being a beginner at hand lettering, I jumped at the chance to read and review this new guide full of simple hand lettering projects, There were some things I had already seen before, But I was also happy to see several new ideas I could use even though I'm a novice. I appreciated the technique review at the beginning of the book. I especially liked the idea for the wooden coasters with different types of coffee drinks hand lettered on them. I'm also on the hunt for a globe to do some creative lettering on.
This book is fabulous, I am so inspired to do the projects!
And as the title says the projects are Super Simple, I found it so easy to follow and the tips were perfect!
The templates rounded the whole book off perfectly.
Super Simple Hand Lettering Projects is perfect for anyone just starting out or those searching for even more inspiration. Trendy designs with easy-to-follow instructions are highlighted in rich, photographed detail. Bennett also includes several templates that can be replicated for any number of lettering ideas. Keep this one near your supplies, because you'll find yourself going back to it often
Super Simple Hand Lettering Projects features cute, Pintrest worthy ideas for beginner calligraphers. Very basic projects with lovely photographs and beautiful samples to accompany them. Visually appealing and extremely straightforward instructions- this would be a nice start for people just learning how to hand letter.
*Thank you to NetGalley and Fox Chapel publishers for providing a free ARC
Very cute and colorful book! There are lots of cool DIY hand lettering projects and they look simple to do. All the projects have final photos and step-by-step photos making it easier for you to follow and understand. I've saved some for me to do later. I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
Great for inspiration for hand lettering projects. It's a limited in scope but the reader picks up a few starting projects that could lead to bigger ones. Very visually appealing and interesting to look at. Reader would have to know how to do hand lettering to complete the projects. This book doesn't have any practice pages or guides to go on. Just a brief warm up of hand lettering. One would have to purchase her other book to learn.
There was a problem with this file. I tried several times to download and open, but I was unsuccessful.
As a beginner to hand lettering I enjoyed that this book provided me with some basics about hand lettering and techniques. The ideas for projects are beautiful and although some I wouldn't call "super simple" they are very basic. They are definitely not plain though and would make great gifts.
Super Simple Hand Lettering Projects by Kiley Bennett is the second book for this author. Her first book is Super Simple Hand Lettering. The beginning of this book gives a mini refresher course on the basics of hand lettering.
The author has included photos of the types of tools she uses and is comfortable with. She urges the reader to find what they are comfortable with and practice.
There are 15 projects on varying materials. There is paper, glass, clothing, wood, and ornaments tas well as other surfaces. For each project is a list of materials, detailed instructions and step by step photographs. There is a lot of inspiration in this book and if you are creative of mind the possibilities are endless. While the projects are specific the author gives instruction for working on glass, chalkboards, and wood to name a few. Those instructions can be used on any project. I think this is a great book with lots of information. and inspiration. Well done.
I would like to thank the publisher, the author and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Although the photos of the projects were well done I found the projects uninspiring. I was hoping for a bit more about the art of hand lettering rather than applying lettering to objects.
Simple project ideas like the title states. The book has a good clear layout with a decent amount of different projects to choose from. The instructions seem pretty straightforward but I was disappointed that there is very little advice on how to actually create the lettering itself. A very basic overview is given at the start of the book, but I'm not sure it would be enough for those completely new to hand lettering and have never done it before.
Super Simple Hand Lettering Projects is not an introduction to hand lettering. Instead it is a detailed look into making 15 projects using your personal hand lettering style. There is a refresher on hand lettering, such as warm up exercises and information about different types of pens and brushes (the most helpful bit of information to me). The fifteen projects vary from the easy, like gift tags, to the more complex, like lettering on jackets. Each of the projects include a list of materials and has step-by-step instructions plus photos to show you how to perfect the project. My personal favorite projects from the book include different ways to letter envelopes and hand letter a globe.
If you are already have some experience with hand lettering, this is a great insight into new ways to use your hand lettering. If you are just starting with hand lettering, this will may not be the book for you until you feel more comfortable with your skills.
A fantastic book with very simple instructions. I'm a beginner at hand lettering and finding proper and easy tips is quite difficult because there are never any clear explanation available but this book was different than others. The author showed how to do the lettering on different material such as wood, glass, denim, paper. I also loved that with each instruction there were pictures which were helpful to follow along.
I'll definitely keep a look out for her future books.
