I don’t know what it was but I couldn’t get into this book. It felt way too slow. I’m a huge romcom fan, but I like my steam, and there was no steam in this one.
This was a fun cute read! I loved the premise of these two rivals having to work together on a cooking show! I wish the rivalry had been a bit more played out so it could have really developed the enemies-to-lovers trope. This was the first book I've read by Bethany Turner and I look forward to reading more of her in the future!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC for an honest review.
I’m all for the enemies to lovers trope every single time.
This was a super fun, quick read that had me laughing out loud at times.
Hadley is such a great character and the chemistry between her and Mac is undeniable and real.
Great read!!
This is a new to me author and I enjoyed the book. Being from the South myself I could relate to Hadley and her southern charms and ways and I can envisions what it was like for her to have to work with Max.
Both Max and Hadley have to work together on a TV show as Max is trying for a new start and they both have to learn to work together and make their different ways mesh. I was funny to see how they clashed at times and how they figured things out.
I received a copy of the book, the review is mine.
Food, flirtation, and fun.
After a disastrous meeting on a food competition, in which Max proved himself to be a complete jerk, Hadley would have been happy never to see him again. And yet, life seldom turns out the way we plan, does it?
So, Max. Seriously, he was a real piece of work! Obnoxious, chauvinistic, rude, foul-mouthed. Oh, and drunk on public television. None of the chefs on the show escaped his attitude. And yet, after time in rehab where he truly began to examine himself, he really did change. Was he perfect? Hah! That would have been too easy, as well as unrealistic. However, he certainly changed for the better and had me rooting for him.
Hadley was so cute. A Southern gal from Tennessee, she was very down-to-earth. So much so that Max doubted her to be genuine. I couldn't help but like Hadley right away. I loved her anger-management technique of reciting kitchen items for each letter of the alphabet!
I really enjoyed the cooking aspects of the show. It was fun how different Hadley's and Max's styles and types of foods they specialized in were. They reflected the differences in their personalities well. The behind-the-scenes type details about being a celebrity chef were the whipped cream and the cherry on top!
Despite finding common ground, the two chefs continued to struggle with tempers and trust. The twists were fun as both Hadley and Max experienced personal transformations.
Full of humorous banter, delicious food, and sweet romantic moments, Hadley Beckett's Next Dish was a delight to the senses! Oh, and I had fun with the chapter names, too! Each was named after steps in a recipe. It would have been fun to see them all listed together (my pre-order copy didn't have this) so I could see if they actually made sense as directions for a single recipe. Probably not, but. . .
A few specifics that I enjoyed about the story
When they dissected the smells in the air to figure out what Max wanted to order for breakfast
In fact, all the ways Max encouraged Hadley to use her "greatest tool" for cooking - her nose
The way Hadley's neck colored when she was angry. Or embarrassed. Or thinking about Max.
The transformed Max. He really turned out to be a great guy
The first recipes they cooked on the new program and the process of the cooking
Their escapes from the cameras when things got obnoxious
Although this thoroughly fun and enjoyable story is listed on Amazon as Christian fiction, I don't classify it that way. While it is entirely clean and even has references to prayer and Jesus, there is nothing about Max's life change attributed to the redemptive power of the Lord. The spiritual items were not a theme in the story.
Wow - what a difference the third book makes! I loved the premise of all three offerings from this author. After reading all three I am of the opinion they each had a unique charm, but this is the one I can truly say I LOVED. I LOVED IT SO MUCH. It doesn't hurt I am predisposed to enjoy stories about cooking shows ;) but this was a very fun and enjoyable book.
Chef Hadley Beckett is as sweet as can be....while Chef Max Cavanaugh is most definitely not. Both are young, accomplished, and successful, but when they go head to head in a cooking competition show (America's Fiercest Chef!) the results are a surprise, and the fallout creates multiple lingering side effects. Max's reputation is damaged and Hadley's star is on the rise (new manager, new attitude) when they are thrown together again. Will Max and Hadley discover they have more in common than not? Can they figure out a way to work together and not kill each other?
With a particularly satisfying ending and multiple laugh out loud moments sprinkled throughout this book, it is a pleasure to recommend!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishers in exchange for my honest review.
"If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."
Chef Hadley Beckett is speechless when her competition on a reality TV cooking show throws this famous phrase at her as an insult. Max Cavanaugh is brash and daring with a flamboyant reputation, but in Hadley's opinion he's nothing but a first class jerk.
After Max's choices catch up to him and he's spent some time in rehab, he's ready to rebuild his career on the Culinary Channel. The only problem is that the TV executives aren't interested in him unless he's paired up with Hadley. The fiery rivalry between them is ratings gold. Can he convince her to accept his apology and give working together a try? Why should she trust anything he has to say after how he treated her before?
Hadley's new manager has big things in store for her. She's got a new studio for her show At Home With Hadley and she's the #1 chef on the network. When an offer comes that she's dreamed about her whole life, she can't imagine turning it down, even if it means having to be in close proximity to Max Cavanaugh. Surely she can put up with anything for a few weeks for this opportunity of a lifetime.
Max and Hadley are like oil and water at best, vinegar and baking soda at worst. As they navigate a tremulous friendship in their personal lives they must also deal with the fierce conflict of their on-air personas and the various things the network tosses their way.
As a reader, I found I enjoyed Max more as a character, which surprised me given our rough introduction to him. I just couldn't quite grasp Hadley or where she was coming from or why she was making certain choices. I also felt the lack of a faith aspect in this novel. There was quite an opportunity to explore one, so it left a noticeable hole.
If you enjoy watching cooking shows or are a fan of enemies-to-lovers stories, you might want to check this out. It's full of sharp jabs and twists and turns.
I received my copy of the book from the publisher. All thoughts in this review are my own.
5 Stars! (More like a bazillion!)
*Picks jaw up off the floor* Wow, I'm speechless in the best way! Fair warning: there will be gushing galore in this review! I loved Hadley Beckett's Next Dish so much that no words I can string together could possibly come close to doing this amazing book justice, but I will try my best!
I loved Hadley! She is my favorite kind of heroine, smart, sassy, spunky, but also kind, caring, generous, and delightfully real! I'm claiming her as my new fictional BFF! Without spoiling anything let me just say that I absolutely loved how Hadley's faith was so evident in the way she treated all those around her and especially Max, such a beautiful reminder of the amazing grace Jesus Christ offers to us all! Hadley I wanna be like you when I grow up! LOL!
And Max, be still my swooning heart, where is my fainting couch when I need it?! I must admit that reformed bad boy isn't generally one of my favorite hero types, but as soon as Max came on the scene, even though he tried his best to keep me from liking him at first, I liked him anyway because I could tell there was more to him than just acting like a jerk, and those feelings promptly turned to love and before I was halfway done I knew without question that he is my favorite hero of Bethany Turner's, and that I had found my newest book boyfriend! Max is definitely one of my favorite heroes of 2020! Why is Max so awesome, and why do I love him so much? Well, you're just gonna have to read the book to find out! ;)
I don't consider myself a foodie, but I do love food and this book gave me an absolutely fascinating glimpse into the life and mind of a professional chef. I felt like I was cooking right alongside Hadley and Max! But make sure you have snacks on hand because reading this book will definitely make you hungry!
Hadley Beckett's Next Dish is a beautiful story of forgiveness and second chances, and a fantabulous romance that will touch your heart and have you grinning and laughing uncontrollably from beginning to end!
In my humble opinion this book is exactly the ray of hope the world needs right now in these scary and uncertain times!
Hadley Beckett's Next Dish is everything I dreamed it would be and so much more!
I absolutely loved every second of this book and it's definitely one of my favorite reads of 2020! Most highly recommended!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. Which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own!
I love Bethany Turner’s writing style. It is so fun, and yet so honest and real. A perfectly blended combo that I cannot help returning to sample again and again.
I enjoy following Bethany on different social media sites, as she shares about the books she’s currently working on and the humor she finds in her negative book reviews. When she wrote about not liking Max Cavanagh at the beginning of writing this story, I wondered what she meant, but after reading this book, I understood. At the start of the story, Max is not a good guy. Not one that I would ever cheer for or desire to read more about. But as the book progressed, and he learned and grew and was transformed by receiving true forgiveness, he won me over. The way Bethany wrote his character transformation was so perfect and believable, that by the end, the guy I never could have cheered for at the beginning had also won my heart as completely as Hadley’s.
Hadley is such a great character too. She’s so Southern, but also so different from a stereotypical Southern character. I loved how these two complemented each other and the chemistry they had.
The whole idea of writing a story about tv personality chefs was fabulous, and kept me engaged for a solid two days as the story completely captured my attention to the very end. There were several times that I actually chuckled aloud—which I can count on one hand how many times a book has brought out that reaction.
The only thing I didn’t love about this book was that it didn’t seem to me to have much of a faith element. Not as far as transformation goes. Certainly Hadley lived a life that showed forgiveness, and Max experienced a transformation in his own life, but neither one of those seemed to have a solid connection to faith in a God who transforms.
So while I loved this book, I would have liked to see the author lean more into that piece. This is what I expect from Christian Fiction, and perhaps Bethany was looking to approach this in a more subtle way. For my own expectations and tastes, it just didn’t quite get there.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
Such a fun rom com! Great for fans of The Food Network and the enemies to lovers trope. Thank you to the publisher for my early copy!
Really enjoyed this one! It took a while for me to warm up to Hadley, but Max was just awesome! The chemistry and tension between these characters was off the charts and the humor was just the right amount without going overboard! Very well balanced which I think is rare in the Rom-Com genre! Loved it!
I loved Hadley Beckett's Next Dish and think it's Bethany Turner's best book yet. I really enjoyed the banter between southern sweetheart chef Hadley and her chef nemesis Maxwell. Maxwell and Hadley are competitors in TV cooking competition between famous chefs which ends up with Max in anger management rehab after his behavior on the show. After rehab, the two are pitted against each other on their favorite cooking show for a season. They soon learn they need to work together to succeed on the show. The banter between the two makes for laugh aloud moments for the reader.
This is the perfect beach read for your summer!
Thank you to NetGalley and to Revell for a complimentary copy of this book, all opinions are my own.
4.5
I kept seeing this title pop up on social media so I thought I'd give this new-to-me author a try. I read the summary (I initially thought it was some kind of murder mystery for some reason) and was even more convinced. My family LOVES to watch Food Network, so the thought of a fun, foodie romance was right up my alley. And it doesn't hurt that we also love Nashville (where most of the story takes place) and are about as southern as they come. I felt an instant connection with Hadley's character and could visualize her almost instantly. I loved her southern mannerisms (again, I can relate) and the contrast she created with her counterpart, Max. This book was just what I wanted: believable behind the scenes moments of food tv, food talk, romantic tension, unpacking of past hurts that impacted the relationships of the characters, and fun banter. I wouldn't necessarily categorize this book as Christian fiction as there was only a slight reference to spirituality, but I would consider it a clean read. I would definitely recommend this book and would now consider myself a new fan of Bethany Turner!
**I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in order to share my honest opinions, which I did.**
Hadley Beckett’s Next Dish by Bethany Turner: This book has it all: haters-to-lovers slowburn, food centered romance, and lots of drama. My favorite part was how much I found myself rooting for both protagonists, even when they were at odds. This book provided insight into the cooking world that made me rethink what I know about Food Network and the Cooking Channel. I never realized how difficult it was to create those shows or how hard it is on the chefs to maintain that schedule. This romcom book was able to tackle real world issues, like alcoholism, while still making me laugh and giving me hope. I will definitely recommend it to my friends.
This book wasn’t for me. I’m not a foodie, like to the extend that I will not eat dinner just so I don’t have to cook. I did enjoy the witty one liners and the banter that Max and Hadley had, but overall I didn’t enjoy this and found myself skimming a lot of it. I think people who love cooking shows and clean romances would like this, but I did not unfortunately.

The story follows two cooking channel favourites Hadley and Max, one is a channel favourite southern belle and the other is an angry playboy. After a major blow out on favourite chef the two must work together on Renowned the show that promises to immortalise their careers for years to come, can they put their differences aside and save each other careers.
I absolutely adored this book and as always the enemies to lovers trope was extremely well done! The epilogue filled me with all the warm and fuzzies.
The novel is out now so make sure you pick up your copy now for a quick summer read for all the foodies out there!
I needed a book to get me out of a minor reading slump, and Bethany Turner’s “Hadley Beckett’s Next Dish” was the perfect medicine. Turner perfectly combines entertainment, romance, and inspiration in a new book setting for me: cooking shows. As an avid watcher of the Food Network channel, this premise drew me right in and captivated me until the final fulfilling pages.
This novel tackles real issues in a balanced manner that is enlightening and entertaining all at once. The theme of forgiveness is superbly portrayed, as it was not instantaneous but rather gradual and moving and real. Neither Max or Hadley were as perfect, or perfectly imperfect, as their TV personas made them appear to be, which set the stage for deep personal revelations that made their relationship raw and humbling. Without revealing any spoilers, Max’s speech at the end of the book is so perfect in the way it encapsulates what a relationship and romance novel as a whole should be like.
This was the first novel by Turner I have read, and it most certainly won’t be the last. A solid 4.5/5 stars for this wonderful story!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is a great book if you love cooking shows. It is a novel about the top two TV chefs on a cooking channel. One is a sweet Southern chef that charms people. She's modest and wants to do a good job. The other is mean, angry and struggles with anger management and alcohol. The story explores the change in both of them to become better and the unlikely relationship that they develop.
I saw that this was listed as Christian Romance which is not a genre that I would choose. I would not classify this as a religious romance at all. Jesus and religion were mentioned once or twice but I would definitely not put this book in that category. It's a nice read and it would make a great movie.
Thank you for this advanced copy from Netgalley and Revell. This is my honest review.
Heat in the kitchen turns into heat between chefs!
Hadley Beckett goes head to head with Max Cavanaugh on America’s Fiercest Chef, where Max loses his temper. Just as he’s shipped off to rehab and Hadley is getting over the incident, she gets a phone call offer to be on Renowned- THE cooking show for the greatest chefs..... only catch? They want both her and Max. Through this book you see the two chefs explore forgiveness, friendship and empathy.
I wanted to love this book but I just didn’t. It definitely had cute and like able aspects to it but I didn’t feel like the chemistry between the two was overly believable. I don’t feel like it showed enough of the flirting or friendship to truly develop the “enemies to lovers” trope it was trying to portray. It honestly didn’t get good until the last 10%.
I did enjoy seeing them both work through past emotions and the baggage that life provides. It was great to see characters acknowledge their flaws and make genuine effort to better them.
Overall I give this book a 2.5/ 5 stars

Hadley Beckett's Next Dish by Bethany Turner
This is another enemies to lovers story but this time in a kitchen setting. Both Hadley and Max are renowned chefs with Max having anger issues. I don’t know if I like Max Cavanaugh or not. He seems like a bad guy at the start and later, he keeps on apologizing. He can be sweet though. Hadley is just too southern and forgiving. I don’t care much for Meemaw but I do like to read more about Stuart. He is talented and a loyal friend to Hadley.
I love verbal sparring and it’s a big plus on this book. But there were also far too many POV’s between the two main characters to my liking. Overall, I like the story and it does point to the fact that it’s best to keep our anger at bay. I always believe that nothing good can come out of one’s mouth when angry. The ending was amazing. I call it an organized chaos. 4 stars
