I know I’m in the vast minority, but this book was just okay to me. I liked the overall plot, but I felt like there was just so much extra information that wasn’t really necessary to the story. For me, the crux of the story didn’t even grip me and really start until 30% in, which I think is just too much extra stuff.

Overall, I like the plot and the characters, but I wish there had been some backstory cut out to make it a faster paced read.

In order to escape an arranged marriage in a small French village in the early 1700s, Addie makes a deal with the devil: a life of freedom and relative immortality for the price of her soul. Unfortunately, Addie is also cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets. She settles for a lonely, transitory life, traveling across Europe and later the United States, serving as a temporary muse for musicians and artists, all the while taunted by the devil every few years to surrender her soul. However, three hundred years later something incredible happens when she meets bookseller Henry. Henry is somehow different, the only person ever able to remember her for more than a fleeting instant. Incredulous, Addie wonders what this means and if it's possible to escape the devil's notice. This is an expansive saga and a richly-told mix of historical fiction and fantasy. Readers will fall in love with Addie's grit and determination.

Mini review and recommendation coming at you! Do yourselves a favor and add THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE by V.E. Schwab to your TBR right now. This is such a beautiful book. Reads like a mix of contemporary and historical fiction with a dash of romance and fantasy. I was enthralled in this story from beginning to end. Addicted and needing to know what would happen next. I loved every second of it, even when this book broke my heart a bit. I can't wait to watch the movie adaptation!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue has quickly become one of my top ten favorite books. With its beautiful, vivid story-telling and enchanting characters, I couldn't put it down. it is a fantastic blend of history and romance that will warm your heat and then shatter it into pieces, and I can't wait to re-read and go through it all again.

This was good but didn’t necessarily grab me. I’m glad I read it and have a few library patrons in mind to recommend it to. I will purchase the title for my library.

I really wanted to like it but The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue just wasn't doing it for me. From the synopsis to the hype surrounding it, I was expecting a lot more than what I read and was ultimately disappointed. It was repetitive, predictable, with characters often falling short. In the end, an overall okay read.

In 1714 Addie, a young French woman, yearns to escape her small French village, and an impending arranged marriage. Prayers go unanswered, so she goes against her mentor's advice, and makes a deal with a dark spirit. Yes, the wedding is off, and Addie can flee, but she is cursed to live forever, and no one remembers her. As time goes on, Addie regrets that she will never leave a mark on this world. The tale spans centuries, cities and continents, until on day, someone remembers her. His friends never remember her, but he does. At some point I felt the the book could have been a shorter, and that the final conclusion would have been more impressive if it came sooner. Event and issue driven. 3.5 stars. Thank you Tor Books and Netgalley for the arc.

This book is a fantastic and expansive look at one woman who is unchanged in an ever-changing world. The different time periods are distinct with great texture. The characters are interested and well-rounded. I wish there were a little more connections with the historic events and societal changes in Addie's life, but then again sometimes we can all be a little self absorbed.

France, 1714: In a desperate attempt to be free, a young woman prays to the old gods but the one who answers does so in the darkness of night. She makes a bargain – her soul to live forever. This blessing of immortality becomes a curse when Addie LaRue realizes she will walk the Earth forever alone, forgotten by everyone she meets.

New York City, 2014: 300 years later, Addie is living in the city and has found various tricks to survive a forgotten existence. Everything changes when she walks into a bookstore and a young man, lost in life himself, says the 3 words Addie has been desperate to hear for centuries - “I remember you”.

Told through various flashbacks of Addie’s long life and the present-day unfolding love story, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is a beatifically written masterpiece that leaves the reader questioning what it means to remember and whether history will remember us.

This book follows the life of Addie LaRue, a girl born in France in 1714. She feels trapped when she is forced to marry. Rather than go through with this, she desperately makes a deal with ‘The Dark’ so she can be free. What she ends up with when the deal is in place is not at all what she was planning on. An immortal life, but one where she is forgotten at every turn. After 300 years she meets Henry, and all this changes when he remembers her.

THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. The prose is so magical, and while it is a slow burn of sorts, it doesn’t feel that way at all. I love the jumps in time so much. Seeing the different time periods as the years pass is so much fun. The end is heartbreaking, but it is the perfect ending. I would also love a sequel omg to see how Addie moves on and how far she makes it, would be amazing to see.

I was given an advanced reader's copy via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own

This magical and beautiful story will be remembered by everyone who reads it. V. E. Schwab has created another iconic character.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would! Schwab gets better & better with each book & I can't wait to see what she brings us next!

Love! The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue has the charm and magic of Schwab that we have come to love, but with new depths that boggle the mind. Schwab will go down in history as one of the best, and I'm here for this.

Addie LaRue gives a slow start and ends with an unexpected twist.

There is a dual timeline, which I don't often like in books, but Schwab always manages to pull it off. I'm also a huge fan that Schwab finally wrote a queer protagonist!!!

Thank you, Netgalley and Tor, for the e-galley.

This was a fantastic book! It’s extremely character driven and a slow burn read, but it was never boring, always gripping. It took me a while to get through because I haven’t had tons of reading time this semester, but I still loved it. My only issue was that I didn’t like the turn the Addie/Luc relationship took near the end; seemed kind of basic to me, and I wanted something more unique from them. Besides that, I think this was a near perfect novel! The prose were poetic, as usual, and the ending seemed fitting. Schwab is still one of the best authors publishing. Also, I appreciated the causal bisexual rep. 5/5 stars.

I absolutely loved this book! It’s hard to truly put this book into words. But V.E. Schwab did it again. I recommend this for anyone that loves to dream. And who has an imagination. Thank you Netgalley and Tor Books for my gifted copy.

Settle in and prepare for a time travelling tale of a woman who has made a Faustian deal with The Dark (a character Addie names Luke) to avoid marriage in 1714. She is fated to wander the world and never to be remembered from day to day. A fascinating novel that hooks the reader while spinning a story of a woman of resilience and strength with the luxurious backdrop of 300 years in history. Recommended!

Incredible read! Best book of the year! I literally could not put this one down. It. Is. Magical. V. E Schwann has crafted a unique, jaw dropping exploration of time and the beauty and horror of immortality.

This book deserves all of the praise that it received. Addie LaRue makes a deal with a shady mythical being & cannot be remembered by anyone she meets. This makes life quite difficult, but Addie does what she has to do to survive. Until one day, Addie meets someone who does manage to remember her. She has to know why & how. Plus what does this mean for her existence? HIghly recommended. First Purchase.

don’t know how I can put into words how I feel about this book. So many emotions. So many feels. This book was so beautiful I didn’t want it to end.

This book is original, magical and oh so memorable. The writing is lyrical and unique. I had a war within myself on if I should sit and savor the book or devour every word. Staying up way past my bedtime won out and now I miss this book so much.

I feel bereft without Addie. She is going to be with me for a long time. I feel like Addie and I would have been friends.

Also can we talk about Henry? Henry is swoony. He was lonely and dreamy all at the same time.

Henry and Addie were both so hopeful and sad. You felt the weight of their choices. You felt how they both needed to be seen, just in different ways.

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by @veschwab is out tomorrow. Run don’t walk to pick this book up. I plan on picking this book up at my local bookstore to keep. Addie deserves a place on my shelves forever and she deserves a place on your shelf too.

Addie, I remember you.

Addie is right up there in my top 5 books for the year.

Thank you so much Jordan, @torbooks and @veschwab for my gifted copy.
