Funny to even think of Attenborough as a young man. In my mind, he is firmly and older white haired gentleman. And yet, once upon a time...young and free and already passionate about nature, he had some delightful adventures. This is the story of those. Engaging and well written account that takes the readers all over the world and leaves them with a newly found or reestablished appreciation for the natural world. Recommended. Thanks Netgalley.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I love Sir David Attenborough, and I am thankful for all that he has done for the natural world. I couldn't read this cover to cover but what I did read was lovely. I hope for an audio copy soon.
I loved this book so much as I do every single
Documentary he's ever been involved with. This
book is a must-read. I will always love him for what
he's done for our world.
Thank you so much, David Attenborough, your Publisher,
and NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and
review this fine book!
I really enjoyed this. I was interested to read about the things you don't see in the documentaries David Attenborough did. I could hear his voice telling me his story as I read. Great read!
What would the world be like without Sir David Attenborough? He is the pioneering naturalist that everyone wanted to be as a child. In this collection, he recollects some of his early expeditions in which he encounters unforgettable people, places, and things... in other words, Attenborough is the ultimate noun. If World Heritage Sights could be applied to people, he would be one, as would this book.
Even though I'm a self-proclaimed "biggest fan" of David Attenborough's, I actually didn't know much about his early career. This book was a fascinating first person perspective of Sir David's early work (pre-BBC Earth). It was disappointing to learn that he actually worked to bring back "exotic" animals for zoos, but his love for the natural world still shines through. The photos that accompany the stories also provide helpful context for the times and the various cultures that he experienced. Highly recommend for fellow Sir David fans!
I loved this book! It felt like such a throwback to childhood that it was an absolute treat! It was interesting to read the way they had to improvise since they didn't have the technology we have today.
A collection of three of David's books from the 1960s, updated and abridged. Covers his journeys to New Guinea, Madagascar, and Australia. Overall an excellent travel book, although it is a product of its time. The chapter on missionaries and cargo cults is especially difficult to read in the modern day.
Journeys to the other side of the World by David Attenborough was what I thought a very interesting read. His is entertaining and kept me engaged until the end. The writing was wonderful I felt like I was right there with him. It was interesting to learn about different people and cultures. This was an enjoyable and educating read.
