Thank you to Netgalley for a pre publication copy. In return for an honest review #asgreekasitgets #netgalley
Alice is the epitomy of opposites attract. She likes to save money and have a simple life whereas her fiancé likes to spend it on luxury and that includes their wedding. Alice is persuaded to go on her hen weekend to Greece where she realises maybe she's too upright and that's when it all falls apart!
I went on holiday to Greece last year and loved it and while their trad Sue's book "What happens in Greece" and I wanted to be transported back with the wonderful descriptions.
The descriptions Sue gives of Greece makes you feel the sun on your face and warmth beneath your toes. Her characters are all different but each have their own fun loving side.
A good beach read although I found the book to have a slow start with nothing really happening until half way through other than their daily lives.
I also found this book repetitive in parts particularly about Max's job and also Alice's night in Greece with nothing else added with each mention.
First of all a big thank you to the author, the publishers and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book to read and review.
I love a good holiday romance so I decided to pick this one up. Unfortunately I didn’t feel like there was much chemistry between the characters and I found myself having to force myself to pick this book up to get through it. I just couldn’t get lost in it like I normally can.
However I loved everything that this book had to say about Greece.
Wonderful book that bought back fond memories of my own Greek holiday............and without the predictable ending
I loved this book immensely. The parts in Greece were clearly the best, a little bit of will they/won't they in the romance department and a lovely all-round finish.
I also enjoyed the parts set in or talking about her home town as it was set very close to where I live and could recognise things that were said and places so made it very homely and welcoming to read. It was like reading about an old friend's adventures
Overall I give it 5/5, couldn't fault it
What a fun book. Sun, sand and Greek food. Perfect for a summer holiday read-easy, light, filled with friendly shenanigans.
I always love books about the Greek islands as they are my favourite part of Europe, I can imagine the colourful villages and sparkling waters, and this book definitely took me there. There a as plenty of fun, angst and romance in this book so perfect beach read
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my
copy of As Greek as it Gets.
This book was a delight. The relationships between our main character Alice and her friends and fiance
are well developed. The trip to Greece for her hen night/bachelorette party was so fun to read about. The descriptions of all of the locations that they visited were so colorful and they really transported you to Greece.
This is one of those books that just simply makes you smile. I enjoyed this immensely and will be looking for more books by Sue Roberts!
I highly recommend it!
As Greek As It Gets
I adore Greece my last holiday was there and like everyone else I am missing holidays due to the pandemic and thought this would be a lovely pick me up.
It was definitely that and the descriptions of Greece were exquisite. I want to visit the birthplace of Zeus too! A love for Greece comes through loud and clear in this lovely beach read.
The descriptions were beautiful but alot of the dialogue was clunky and I struggled to see people actually talking like they did in the book.
The main problem I encountered was that i didn't love Alice or like her at all....the opening few chapters I struggled because I didn't (and still don't really) understand what her issue with her perfect life...rich fiance and fun job was. I know everyones own problems are personal but really?! She seemed weak and ineffectual and I was a bit perplexed by her and how she had gathered all these vibrant people around her.
It just seemed like she has it all and with me not even remotely understanding Alice meant I struggled with all of her decisions throughout the book.
This is a nice easy beach read and would have loved to have actually read it on the beach!
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Alice Clark is delighted when her boyfriend Max proposes. From her dead-end job to her straight-up-dead houseplants, her life hasn’t exactly turned out how she imagined, so she can’t wait to start some wedding planning.
Captivating, romantic, fun and charming! A perfect beach read that makes you want to pack your bags and jump on the next flight to Greece! Interesting and relatable characters and a sweet storyline
I very much enjoyed this book. It has a good story and excellent main characters. I would definately recommend this book.
I want to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for and advanced copy to read “As Greek As It Gets,” by Sue Robert, for and honest review of the book. The cover was so compelling, it drew me into the book. The writing was wonderful, particularly when the author was describing Greece and the food, the culture. I could imagine myself being there.
The book is about Alice and Max, an engaged couple about to be married. Alice isn’t happy with her life, her job, and immediately accepts Alex’s proposal. While Max starts planning a wedding much bigger than Alice ever wanted, her best friend takes her on a hen party, before she gets married.
While Alice is is Greece she realizes all that has been missing in her life, what she’d love to do with her life to feel fulfilled. Then, she meets a someone who could be her true happily ever after.
Does Alice decide to create the life she’s dreamt of in Greece and leave her life in England behind forever? Or does she go back, and marry Alex? To a marriage that would leave her wanting forever.
I loved this book, for its charm, and humor. The author developed the protagonist beautifully, and her love interest on holiday. I kept reading all day, wanting to know how it ended. Which choice Alice would make, and direction she would choose for her life. A heart-warming book! A 5 star book!
Alice is ecstatic her boyfriend has proposed and enjoys the ensuing wedding planning.
Alice wants a simple ceremony whereas her fiancé’s plans are getting more exuberant whilst the guest list is growing.
Her best friend has organised a hen do in Greece, crystal clear waters, superb Sandy beaches and plenty of beautiful villages.
Alice has fallen for her surroundings and people she meets, is she making the right choices, will she be happy?
A fantastic sun kissed summer escapist read x
I didn’t want this book to end as it did. There seemed to be a number of loose ends of stories and frankly, I didn’t want her to marry the one she did!
Alice and Max will be married soon, and one of her best friends from university has found them a luxury getaway in Greece for the Hen Party. Originally only wanting a spa weekend, Alice is worried about everything: from her own lack of ‘oomph’ and confidence, to her struggles with her mother, and the fact that her friends are constantly teasing her as being “old” and boring. The one thing she knows, without a doubt, is that she loves Max and can’t wait to get married to him: even if his plans for the wedding are far too extravagant and expensive, and she’d like nothing better than to elope to a private ceremony and return to the deed done.
But, now that she’s in Greece she’s finding those pieces of her she left behind: the draw to paint, giving serious consideration to opening her own gallery or teach painting to adults - rather than simply work part-time in the shop she’s been at for the past two years, and selling paintings on the internet. A day trip with the girls in Jeeps to explore the off the beaten track spaces, and a connection with the tour operator Vangelis have Alice confused. How can she be attracted to him, spend all night talking with him, and still love Max?
Returning to England, she’s found it necessary to share her ‘indiscretion’ with Max, who reacts, predictably, with pouting, silence and staying out all night. Nothing really happened with either - but the fractures in their relationship, and Alice’s unwillingness (or inability) to truly share her concerns about the wedding, her struggles with her mother and her own issues from childhood have to come to the surface before the two realize that theirs is a match meant to be - and everyone can look forward to big changes, big gestures and new opportunities. Full of friendships, heart, family and food - this is a wonderful ‘poolside read’ and sure to leave you with a smile.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

What a charming read! Delightful beach reading. I really enjoyed the Greek setting. Alice is a great character.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own
I enjoyed reading this book, but it was just ‘okay’ and didn’t really grip me. I didn’t warm to any of the characters other that Alice’s friends Ria and Kerry. The descriptions of Greece were evocative & I could imagine the settings and people within them, but the story itself felt disjointed and somewhat beyond belief - I know many books in this genre have far-fetched happenings so this isn’t so out of the ordinary; however, I felt myself doubting that what I was reading would happen in such a way. I also felt that, although the book was As Greek as it gets, the split between the happenings in Greece and the repercussions, and eventual resolution, was too uneven as the final chapter or two, pulling the conclusion together, felt rushed compared to the amount of time spent describing tavernas and food etc in the many chapters set in Greece.
A good holiday read though as full of sunshine.
Good storyline. great charcters, the story flowed really well, and it was a fun read. I didnt think it was going to turn out the way it did at all. I sat and read this in the garden and it was a great way to while away an afternoon.
I have to be honest; the cover of this book really drew me in. I love anything that has to do with Greece so I was very excited to dive in.
Unfortunately, this book was just okay for me. I felt very disconnected to the characters, even the protagonist. They didn’t have as much depth to them as I would’ve liked. It was clear from the very beginning that Alice was too afraid to voice her own opinions when it came to anything in her life. She also lacked communication skills in her relationships. In that regard, this was her book to finding herself. I’m here for that. The way she goes about it, though, I didn’t particularly enjoy. There is one line that Alice says that shows exactly the lack of communication with Max. She says, “I have tried, but he is just so generous that I don’t want to be a right old misery guts. I’m sure we’ll figure it out in the end”. I just find that so naive of a 30 year old woman about to get married to say. I also didn’t see that much chemistry between Max and Alice. From the beginning, I didn’t see them as a good compatible pair.
A side character I really enjoyed was Vangelis. He had the most depth to him, surprisingly, and he made the scenes fun. He was also the voice of reason. Another great aspect of this book were the scenery descriptions of Greece. It made me want to go back and visit Greece again.
I was drawn to this book by the pretty cover and the title, I had never read a book by Sue Roberts before and this certainly will not be the last.
Alice is engaged to Max and is set to go on her hen party to Greece where herself and Max had gotten engaged 2 years previous. Whilst on the hen party Alice meets Vangelis.
Does Alice marry the man of her dreams?
I thoroughly enjoyed this read and devoured this in one day.
A nice easy read perfect for a poolside
