A cute, lighthearted read.

I love discovering new to me authors, especially when the writing can transport me to a new local. This is the first Sue Roberts book for me and I enjoyed watching the main character, Alice grow throughout the story as she went on holiday with her best friends, future sister-in-law, and then faced her true feelings about her life, her goals and the relationships she had with her family and fiancé.

Alice is a very likable character, that is easy going but has a hidden adventurous streak that I could relate to. The supporting cast did a great job of showing all the different sides to her and helping her along on her journey of becoming the person she was meant to be.

The author had a light touch when it came to description, however it was enough to make this reader want to book a trip to Crete and soak up that Grecian sun, while surrounded by pristine white beaches and hot Greek men. As for classifying this as a “fun, feel-good romantic comedy,” that’s a bit of a stretch. It is fun. It is feel-good in the end, but the story isn’t really focused on the romance so much as Alice’s feelings about her out-of-control wedding planning fiancé, her unsupportive mother, and not being happy with her career. I would classify this more as a light women’s fiction with a romantic element. Maybe even a little on the “chick lit” side.

Overall, an enjoyable read especially if you are looking for something that is light, a bit fluffy, and has more of a storyline than just your average romance, and still has a happily ever after.

What a perfect book to read while in the garden soaking up the sun - although I would much rather have been in Greece going by the descriptions of Santorini in the book.
From the beginning I liked Alice and felt her very relatable, and by the end I like Max just as much and he turned out to definitely be a keeper.

Well this book has my two favourite things in it.
Weddings and Greece.
It sucked me in from the first page and held me until the last. I have read it in one sitting starting this morning and finishing this evening.
Sue describes the Greek Island and life and people perfectly and really sets the scene for beautiful wedding venues. It's a tough choice between the Lake District and Crete!

Alice and Max seem to be the perfect couple. He has a very successful business but Alice thinks he is a bit too quick to spend his money. Her reasons for her save not spend become known as the story develops.

Alice and her friends are off for a break in Greece, the gorgeous setting provides a lovely backdrop for the story. While away, Alice finds that she is looking at her life back at home, is it wedding jitters or something more.

Now right from the off, I liked Alice, Max I wasn't so sure about. I felt he was a bit too flashy and it did give me an uneasy feeling about him. He seems to have taken the wedding planning to some rather grand levels, with more cash and lavishness being spent.

Wedding nerves aside, Alice seems to gradually come into her own, gaining a little confidence along the way. It isn't a huge transformation, but it felt right.

This is a nice light, easy read that is ideal for a lazy afternoon. A lovely story that I happily disappeared into, a light rom-com with some a lovely Greek backdrop and ending that I didn't expect, but that I really liked. Ideal for readers of romance and rom-coms who like a relaxing, escapism read. It is one I would recommend.

I absolutely loved this book! The only reason it doesn't get the full 5 stars is because I would have liked it to be a little bit longer. I was disappointed when it ended - always the sign of a very good book.

I warmed to Alice (the main character) immediately and could relate to her in so many ways.
Alice and Max are planning their dream wedding but Max is getting a little carried away and inviting anyone and everyone, where Alice would prefer a more intimate, laid back affair.
Her friends whisk her away to Crete for her hen-do where she meets a hot Greek guy (of course!) who she has an immediate connection with.
No spoilers but this is the perfect book to escape lockdown life with and make you feel that little bit better.

When we are all having holidays and trips cancelled, this is the next best thing. I know when lockdown is lifted, I will be seriously considering a trip to Greece...!

This book was a dream from start to finish and I can't wait to read the other titles from Sue Roberts. A big claim but she is my new favourite escapism author.

This is my first book by this author and i am licking myself for not knowing about her books. Did i enjoy this book? Hell yes.
This book is what we need to feel comfort, loved in these terrible times and transport us to the most idylic islands of this world- Greece. I am biased because i love Greece and i wanted to go to these myself, This was a lovely bok about a couple who were about to get married. Alice is an artist living in Formy, Lancashire and her man is high flying Noah who likes to throw money at things and its not what Alice is liking, the bigger the wedding the better Noah feels but Alice wants nothing more than just the two of them.
Alice heads of to Crete with the girls for a hen night- 5 days and night to be exact and they fulfill with everything possible, they sightsee, paraglidfe, island trip to Santorini and it is just the best. Alice spends the night with a local man Vangelis and cant cope with the guilt so she tells Noah when they are home.... The question is do they continue with the wedding?
Lts just say this book takes you to Crete santorini and formby, i kow wher ei should be and i loved how the ending took us to the location and it was just smiles all round because i would locve someone to be that inventive.
I loved Alice, a great down to earth character, her sibling lexie has a broken leg and her mother doesnt have a great relationship with Alice. All of Alice's friends were lovely. I loved the locations too, the beautiful greek towns and islands, ive been to and love them both. Top marks for the authoir.

I've read and enjoyed a few books by Sue Roberts, and I was pleased to receive an early preview copy of this book from Netgalley and the Publisher.
At a time when it is not possible to travel anywhere, It was lovely to read a book set in Greece, and imagine what it is like to visit there.
I found this book slow to begin with, as it was mainly set in the UK, and I was eager to read about the hen party trip to Greece. When Alice and her friends were in Greece I enjoyed reading about the different locations that they visited. The descriptions made me wish that I could visit there one day.
I thought that I knew what was going to happen in the book, but I do not want to give away any spoilers. I thought that the story was going to be a predictable and stereotypical story. I was pleased to find out that the ending was not what I expected it to be.
This is a fun and enjoyable easygoing read.

Alice's life is not going at all how she planned but things are looking up when Max proposes and she can start to plan a wedding, however that to soon gets out of control and a holiday is in desperate need. Need a getaway? Try this light, funny novel set on Crete. Alice and Max are about to be married; the wedding has gotten way beyond what Alice thought it would be because Max is a groom-villa. This story, however, is about her hen trip to Greece. It's important to note that Max's sister is also along because she figures in something that happens. There'a a hot tour guide named Vangelis (he's also nice), great descriptions of scenery and good, and a story that will make you smile. At a time where none of us are travelling, I was reaching for this book for my dose of travel fantasy. The descriptions of Greece are lovely and for me what drove me to keep returning to the book. The characters were also well developed but I wanted to strangle several of them. However their inherit flaws also made them all the more human.
I wouldn't say I was riveted, but the author did a good job and some parts were golden.

I requested this book because I was due to visit Greece in June, in a pre COVID-19 world 😭 This may or may not have impacted my feelings on the book, because I was disappointed that not a great deal of the book was actually "spent" in Greece and in fact the majority was spent in the UK. I kept hoping that Alice was going to return to Greece after her hen do as I felt not really much happened while she was in the UK.

The writing was beautifully descriptive and I definitely felt I was transported there.

The ending was not the one I was wishing for but such is life!

Such a cute book!! I loved the story. It moves fast and you will love every second of it. Definitely one to add to your reading list.

I enjoyed this book, it was a light easy read that I was glad of right now.
I liked Alice a lot, I thought she was very human and relatable. I wasn't so keen on Max, he just came across as a big kid and flashy.
The book didn't finish in the way that I thought it would. I thought we'd definitely see Vangelis again at then end. At one point I was convinced that Max was having an affair with Lexie.
I'm glad it wasn't just another predictable story.

This is the first time I have read anything by Sue Roberts. This book started out rough. I got to about 30% and wondered if I should continue on... but I HATE not finishing books, so I plowed on... and at 50% it began to improve. It did end up being a pretty good story. The beginning was just rocky. I did not like the way the author wrote the day to day activities of the characters... like first we did this, then this, then this, and this... it was boring and redundant and altogether uninteresting. I was not sure where the heck this story was going. But like I said, it did improve luckily. Once the main character, Alice, and her friends travelled to Greece for her "hen" party the story began to take shape. Ultimately it is a story of friendship, forgiveness, self-confidence, love, and travel! It is light read that would be great for the beach.

This is the perfect book to read at the moment, nobody can travel so let this book help your imagination take you away. The descriptions are wonderful and I really liked the characters and plotline. A lovely read.

Weak Points:
* First half of book is boring and slow paced.
* Writing wasn’t catchy at all.

Strong Points:
* Easy read (Readers who prefer nothing intense).
* Gives you a sneak-peek into Greek food and beauty.
* Reminds us that Relationships are based on trust, honesty, and forgiveness.


Conclusion: I am not very moved by either the writing style or the plot of the novel. It is a very light and easy read which might attract a lot of readers who do not wanna read anything too intense or depressing while keeping in mind the current global scenarios. I did get to know about Greece and places there to visit for a holiday which I appreciate, as it is my dream to be able to visit Greece once in this lifetime.

Ps: Also, I don't believe in rating a book by stars since everyone has their own perspective and interests.

I was incredibly excited when this book was announced, as I love a Sue Roberts book, I love a story set in Greece and I really wanted to read this on my holiday to Crete. However well a pandemic has happened, clearly I'm not getting that holiday, and thus this in some respects just for me became a trickier book to read, for as much as I enjoyed it, I can't help but continually feel gutted I don't get to go to Crete for real.

For the Greek holiday in this novel, is in Malia, Crete, but at the same time it did mean I was able to virtually visit the island. I loved Alice and her friends jeep trip around the island, allowed me to see some of the real Greece from the comfort of my living room (not quite the same as reading poolside,but that's what imagination is for).

This is the story of whether or not Alice will really get the wedding of her dreams to Max, they appear to be complete opposites, especially when it comes to wedding planning. Some of Maxes ideas really made me laugh, and I loved how generous he was. He really cares for Alice, that much is obvious, and generally I had a lot of time for Max.

Yet frankly it was the gorgeous Greek guy that I was far more interested in, he isn't even in much of the story but he has a lasting impact. I would love to read a book where he is the hero, as I'd thoroughly enjoy getting to know him better.

The Greek holiday mainly featuring in this book is Alice's hen party, and it was comparatively civilised compared to what I thought when I heard Malia and Hen Party in the same sentence! Ria, Kerry and Molly are the others on the trip, and I enjoyed getting to know them a bit too, especially their relationships with Alice.

This was an enjoyable story, which allowed me to travel in some way to Greece this year, featuring a gorgeous Greek guy, Greek food in great sounding tavernas, a fabulous fiance, a bunch of deliberation over what Alice really wants, and just an all around entertaining read.

For Alice's "Hen (bachelorette) Party" we find Rita, Kerry, & Molly (Max's younger sister) heading to a Crete week-long getaway. As they experience the sun-drenched beaches and the perfect turquoise-hued water they find the astounding Greek food, nightlife, and the numerous cocktails Alice also finds her heart.
An evening terrace conversation opens Alice's eyes and her heart to what she has been missing. The adrenaline rush and excitement of love propels Alice to search for what she desires. Once the trip is over Alice heads home with the baggage of what happened and what did not happen.
The routine of Alice and Max is shaken, and the relationship is tested to the point of imploding. Friends and family are Alice's comfort and her art is what strengthens her core. Will Alice find the love that she has been missing? Or will Alice realize she has always had the love she craved?
This was my first novel by Sue Roberts, I found her writing engaging and the story kept pulling towards the next chapter. The characters were vivid, and each had the unique quirks that made them relatable.

Keep your eyes peeled for this one. Definitely a good read for the holidays or for when you just want some down time.
"Fun, feel-good romantic comedy " indeed. This book lived up to every expectation I had of it.

The writing style is simple and laid back. I thoroughly enjoyed the descriptions that were woven throughout this book. They are so vivid you can momentarily drift off to Greece with these fun loving characters. The scenery writing is fantastic.

The dialogue could have been a little more developed but it does the job and there is a good use of humour which really makes up for it.
The characters are flawed and have their own quirks which I absolutely love. It makes them more relatable.

A lovely book to take your mind off things for a while and de-stress.

An easy, enjoyable read. Read it in a couple of sittings while sitting in the sun. Seems an ideal book to head to the beach with. Not too taxing to read and the plot is easy to follow
