Outwardly, This Time Next Year is a love story, a “will they, won’t they?” book.
Quinn and Minnie meet each other by chance on New Years Day, which also happens to be both their birthdays.
As we go through the book, we see that there were so many occasions where their paths have crossed, or have just missed each other. The feeling is that fate is trying to bring them together.
When you look deeper, it is a story of making assumptions. Those that we make on other’s lives, based on what we can see on the surface. Also, how attitude towards events and circumstances within our own lives, can colour how we view ourselves and how our lives pan out.
My last book was rather heavy and gritty, so I really wanted to read something lighter, brighter and airy. This Time Next Year was definitely the tonic I wanted. It was lovely to get a reminder of the Caipirinha, which is such a gorgeous drink when made with the traditional Brazilian Pinga.
It’s a warm, happy read, 4* from me.

Today is my turn on the blog tour this is heart warming and captivating book.
.
A huge thank you to @netgalley for providing me with a ebook copy and @penguinrandomhouse for inviting me on the tour and @sophie_cousens for the honour in being able to read and review your book.

I absolutely adored everything about this book ❤️
.
Poor Minnie has grown with a New Years Eve jinx which happens to be the day before her birthday so she avoids going out at all costs, but little does she know that the one time she braves going out will be the evening that changes the rest of her life!
.
I loved Minnies character, her relationship with her best friend was really special and reminded me very much of me with my own best friend.
.
The other characters in this book were also brilliant, each one with different quirks and easy to relate to for one reason or another, some you love and some you despise but in my eyes that’s what makes it such a great book!

Refreshing and sweet romance!

Minnie has bad luck, to put it simply. It all began 30 years ago when the infamous Quinn Hamilton stole her lucky name. When Minnie and Quinn happen to meet at a New Years Eve party, the night before their birthday, they have an unexpected connection. Throughout the coming year, Minnie and Quinn reflect on their past New Years while both on a journey of growth. Somehow, they keep running into each other, constantly wondering if maybe the lucky part is them being together.

I really loved this book. The story was sweet, light, funny and heartbreaking all at the same time. The writing was fantastic, kept me engaged and interested from the beginning. The author succeeded at showing the characters in a really authentic and realistic way. They were likeable and I was always rooting for them, but at the same time they showed their flaws and had to work through them. The only character I really struggled with was Connie, Minnie's mom. Like the other characters, she really went on a journey, which I can appreciate, but it wasn't always easy to read. My only complains would be that the story did move very slowly, and you often don't know where it's heading, however, I wanted to know and didn't mind sticking it out because I really enjoyed the book. But, the big finish really does happen at the very, very end. Lastly, everything about Minnie and Quinn is very coincidental, like oh of course they would happen to meet there, but again, I enjoyed it! It was fun to put the pieces together and follow them on their journey together and a part. Like other reviews had stated, I'm not too sure how to characterize this book, it has a little bit of everything and that's what made it great. Really enjoyable read!

Really enjoyed this book, loved how the two main characters have been connected since the day they were born. Will read others by the same author

Minnie and Quinn were born one minute apart at the turn of the new year, except Quinn's mother beat Minnie's to the first baby and therefore winning the cash prize and stealing the name she wanted. Years later, the two meet in, let's say, surprising circumstances.

This book really took me by surprise and I loved the incredibly sincere and human characters throughout. It felt real. Sometimes the 'missed chances' trope can be a bit stale and overused, but this was more subtle and carried out to perfection. Quinn was not my favourite male protagonist ever, the female characters were unbeatable.

A romantic comedy with layers that sums up This Time Next Year for me. The story weaves backwards and forwards between timelines (doesn’t everything these days!) revealing the story of two babies born just minutes apart in a London Hospital to two very different women, Tara and Connie, on the cusp of 1990. Tara ends up naming her son Quinn, the name chosen by Connie for her daughter who unfortunately for her is named Minnie. The fact that her surname is Cooper ensures she is the butt of bullying and many jokes. Their lives intersect though they live on very different trajectories. Minnie’s life is haphazard and comedic and disasters befell her every New Year’s Eve, while Quinn is a successful businessman with commitment issues. The values of friendship and family are nicely conveyed by Sophie Cousens and it all makes for an easygoing and rewarding read. Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the ARC.

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book surprised me in the best way possible! I had zero expectations going into this book, and I freaking loved it! Sophie Cousens writes this novel so well and makes the characters relatable. The character development was outstanding and by the end of the book I wanted them all to be my friends in real life. This book is about missed chances and believing in yourself.

This Time Next Year is a romance novel that focuses on Minnie and Quinn spanning over numerous New Year Eve’s. Minnie Cooper and Quinn Hamilton are born a minute apart on New Years Eve/Day in 1989/90. This story is about finding yourself and being confident in your own skin while also believing you are worthy of love.

I am such a sucker for these "is it meant to be" type books and found myself tearing through this one. Its a light and sweet read that jumps back in forth in time to see how everyone landed in the position they are today.
A great touch of romance, the possibility of a New Year's curse, and likable characters made this a desirable read. If you are looking to escape this is the book for you. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I quickly jumped at the chance to read this as part of the blog tour.

I loved the concept of this book, it is about Minnie and Quinn who were born only a few minutes apart in the same hospital in 1990. The story is told through their time in the present but also jumps back in time to their childhood and teenage years to tell their stories.  I liked both Minnie's and Quinn's characters. This is a great story of not only romance but friendship and family too!! It has that same vibe as 'One Day'. There are some great cute moments in the story and it is also full of humour. I was quickly hooked into the story and couldn't put it down.

Overall a great fun, uplifting feel good romance read which i would highly recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley and Random  House UK for the opportunity to read this.

This Time Next Year is a sweet, enjoyable novel following Minnie, who is a New Year’s Day baby (like me!) born on 1st January 1990 (LIKE ME!). Minnie is convinced she has bad luck every New Year’s Eve/ Day. The book jumps back and forwards in time, to the present day – when she meets Quinn, who was also born on New Year’s Day – and back to her childhood and teenage years. We see a lot of why Minnie believes her New Year Days are ‘cursed’ in these various timeframes, and we learn more about her friendships, family and past relationships – and we also get some insight into Quinn’s life, too, as some of the narratives focus on him.

This book is a very sweet and light-hearted read, with a really likable protagonist, but I felt it was quite predictable. I also felt that some characters (don’t want to give away who) had a complete turnaround quite far into the book, which didn’t feel very realistic.

However, the characters are well developed and, along with the lighter themes, there are some more serious themes addressed too. Despite this, I think This Time Next Year provides a nice dose of escapism as we see the characters’ romance blossom, and I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys a romance with a bit more depth.

The premise is intriguing: two babies are born in the same hospital on the same night. The two mothers help one another through tough labors, trusting and encouraging and coaching themselves and each other for hours even though they were perfect strangers who would never ordinarily meet. The first child born is given the name that the second child was expected to be given. When the babies are grown and meet on New Year's Eve/New Year's Day and unravel their strange entwined fates, sparks fly and complications ensue. The story does not hold up the promise of the premise -- quick darts at character development make secondary and tertiary characters more dimensional and intriguing than the predictably unpredictable protagonists. The settings, the lives, the....everything....did not make for a satisfying read.

With a name like Minnie Cooper how could you fail to be anything but quirky and a little bit different and such is the case for Minnie who we first meet on a disastrous New Year's Eve in 2019. It's disastrous for many reasons but the main one is that Minnie's birthday is the first of January and she always knows that something is going to go badly wrong, after all, it has done since she was pipped to the post of being the first baby born in 1990 by Quinn Hamilton.

Thirty years on and Quinn and Minnie meet again in a chance encounter and thereafter their lives are intertwined in the most unexpected ways. That they are both very different people from different social backgrounds only adds to the general interest in this lighted hearted rom-com which has all the necessary ingredients to keep you entertained right from the first page.

I liked Minnie from the start, she's a great character who appears totally disorganised but together with her best friend, Leila, Minnie runs her No Hard Fillings business making pies for the needy with common sense and a heart of gold. Running a small local business isn't easy and I think the author has explored this really well showing just what Minnie and Leila have to do to survive but it is in the connection between Minnie and Quinn where the story has its heart and soul.

The story jumps around in time and it took me a little while to get used to this but once I had it all firmly established, I found the whole story well written and entertaining. There's lots of stuff about families and how both Minnie and Quinn are affected by what's going on in their very different lives. I especially enjoyed the connection between Quinn's mother, Tara, and Minnie's mother, Connie, whose first meeting was way back in 1989 at the maternity hospital when they were both expectant mothers but whose lives subsequently couldn't be more different.

This Time Next Year is a lovely debut novel about taking the chances that life offers, and the importance of love, friendship and family.

I was so excited to start This Time Next Year, I actually got accepted to read it through NetGalley – which is how I managed to get onto the blog tour, so I’m so grateful to Penguin and NetGalley for the experience!

I love how it starts with Minnie and Quinn both meeting on New Year’s, it really sets the scene on what the book is about, and how Minnie and Quinn are complete polar opposites to each other! It just goes to show that opposites really do attract!

Minnie is obviously your average hard-working girl, trying to make a life for herself in London, which I think everyone knows how difficult and also expensive this can be. Whereas Quinn almost has it all handed to him on a silver platter, so already that creates animosity between the characters once they realise who each other are. But things happen behind closed doors that the characters don’t really realise, and actually, Quinn doesn’t have it as easy as Minnie once thought.

Some of my favourite parts throughout the book are the mini flashbacks looking back at the previous New Year’s alternating between Minnie and Quinn’s point of views. You really see how the characters become who they are throughout them, especially as some of the major plots from the story comes from these mini flashbacks.

As someone like Minnie who has had to work for everything she has, her life really resonated with me! she didn’t have an easy life, and her family life isn’t much easier either. So, I think that the fact that the story has some real-life scenarios makes it that much more believable and a lot less cliché.

I really don’t want to give any spoilers so I will end my review here, but you can know that this was a five-star read from me. It”s definitely a very-much anticipated book of the year! It is now out on e-book, and the paperback will be released in October, so keep your eyes peeled!

I can’t wait to read what you all think once you’ve given it a read!

This Time Next Year alternates between past and present. It shows us how two lives can intersect in a variety of ways throughout their lifetime. The stories of the past help to explain some the negativity and hesitancy the characters live with in their current life. I rooted for Quinn and Minnie, but there were many moments I questioned if they would ever make it. A cute story about love, finding yourself, and taking a chance.

I absolutely loved this book, had me gripped from the start and I was sad to finish. The main characters were so likeable. A definite recommendation

I either love or hate books and this one I love. When i started reading I was unsure where the storyline would go and would it be an obvious romance but the author kept us guessing until the very end. The story follows Minnie and Quinn both born on 31st December and their journey from birth onwards as they duck and dive each others lives. A great read and easy to follow as it does chop and change time zones. Thanks Sophie Cousens and NetGalley for the early read.

Thank you NetGalley, Random House and Sophie Cousens for gifting me an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
If you loved One Day but hated the ending, this one's for you! Minnie is struggling to keep her pie business afloat, avoid moving into her parent’s house... again, and dealing with a serious lack of love life despite having a boyfriend. Quinn is a successful businessman with a beautiful girlfriend and a privileged upbringing, but he’s harbouring secrets about his mother’s health. Minnie and Quinn have a meet cute that involves a bathroom nap, a shared New Year’s Day birthday and a killer sunrise and they have a connection from that moment forward.
Sophie Cousens takes readers through past New Years, each of their separate stories weaving together without them ever knowing. There were a few moments that got a little muddled in the switching of timelines and narratives, but the story came together so well you don’t even care about that. This was a quick read (I finished this in one sitting!) and ticked off all the boxes on a good romance. Chemistry, romance, just a smidge of drama, great friendships and the ability to keep me glued to the pages until I finished!
I hope this isn’t the last time we see Minnie and Quinn! The side characters in this book were all so likeable and would make a great series.
There were a few times where I felt like the will they, won’t they troupe was a little overplayed in this one, but that’s just my own impatience. I’ll admit that I would’ve walked away from Quinn in the beginning with all his crap he was pulling. Typical guy, but he was too old to be acting that way in my opinion! I was happy with the ending and I thought things wrapped up in a realistic and swoon worthy fashion!
Sophie Cousens is definitely on my radar of authors to watch now!

This Time Next Year was SUCH a great book! I loved it so so so much. I really only give five starts to books that were life-changing in some way, but this was definitely a 4.75. I was hooked from the very beginning. While this book could be a little cheesy at times, I LOVED the unique premise that it was based on. I loved all of the different character dynamics, and that this book was not just about a love story. It was about friendship, family relationships, finding yourself, and so much more. I RARELY finish a book and want a sequel, but I am truly hoping to hear more about Minnie and Quinn's story. I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a deeper version of a rom com.
