Really enjoyable “different“ romance. Easy to read story about 2 people born on the same day in the same hospital.. Takes place in London with people from a wealth of different backgrounds and their coping mechanisms of their situations. A good read
This was a sweet read and while I enjoyed Minnie and Quinn and their complicated path to their HEA I didn’t feel connected to their story. I loved the blurb and the story followed it but I just wanted more. I liked the banter and the backstory with the mums was a great twist. I will definitely give this author another try.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for this ARC.
This isn’t the usual type of book I like to read and I thought the premise looked interesting. I really, REALLY enjoyed reading this book. It had such likeable, believable characters who had their own issues and fears. There were times I was laughing out loud when reading, I thought the book was sad, funny, poignant, endearing and it pulled at my emotions. I was rooting for Minnie and Quinn throughout. This is a very well written book that deals with family relationships, friendships, love and loyalty. This would probably be good as a holiday, feel good read, a bit of escapism .... and one I thoroughly loved reading. Would recommend this as a fun, light hearted read.

I loved this book from start to finish! I was cheering for Minnie the whole time, always hoping that she'd get the break that she deserved. I found the characters so lovable and real, I could relate with so much of what was going on in the book. The writing is wonderful too, it really was emotional in places. So much in fact that I even cried a few times, and it's been a while since a book has been able to do that do me. I can't wait to read more by this author!
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy of this book.
Minnie and Quinn were both born on New Years Eve/Day one minute apart at the same hospital, although they never properly meet until 30 years later at Quinn's 30th birthday party. As the story unfolds, we learn that both characters have had small encounters with one another before and continue to do so after the party which very much reminds me of 'sliding doors'. I was immediately invested in the 'will they, won't they' aspect that so many romantic books have and particularly enjoyed the character development of both Minnie and Quinn.
Although this is a romantic book, it isn't your typical love story. It also has strong themes on family, friendship and on loving yourself.
Minnie Cooper is cursed with bad luck on New Year's, which also happens to be her birthday. Each year a series of terrible events inevitably happen to Minnie. This year is no different; New Year's Eve is going horribly wrong when she accidentally meets Quinn Hamilton, the man who shares her birthday and stole her name. Hopping between years and in alternating perspectives, Quinn and Minnie keep nearly meeting until they finally do. Minnie and Quinn help one another to discover that luck can change.
This was a surprisingly good book. It was a light, enjoyable, funny and sometimes a sad read. I found myself really rooting for Minnie and Quinn. I loved Minnies character. Her friendship with Leila. Her mom and dad. I loved her dads obsession with clocks. Minnies friendship with her co-workers was sweet. I found myself giggling and I cried in a few spots too. Highly recommend this one😀 just a really nice feel good book!
This was a super quick read for me!
I enjoyed it very much but felt several scenes lacked something to keep me into it.
I am excited to read other titles from Sophie, she is a great writer.

This was a very beautiful story, very well written, it's one of those I see myself re-reading a lot.
the beauty of the writing style made me want quote half of the book which is rare for me when it comes to contemporaries.

my main concern when I was reading it was the fact that it was set in this year and there was no mention of covid-19 in it.
My first book by this author, really enjoyed it. It's a tale of Minnie & Quinn, both born on the same day & how their lives weave in & out. Definitely recommend
Really good read. Would recommend to friends and family. I could sympathise with characters (important for any fiction novel!) and looked forward to picking it up and reading the next few chapters! Interesting plot line and a good ending. Will look out for more novels by the author. Thank you.
Minnie and Quinn meet on New Year's Day, which is also their 30th birthday! They were born on the same day, in the same hospital, just minutes apart. Their mother's met in the hospital during labor and they helped each other through each other's labors. However, now the families have had no contact since the kids were born. 30 years later, both Minnie and Quinn think they are living very different lives, but they discover, maybe they're not so different after all.
I started this book and then felt that it was moving a little too slowly for me, so I set it aside and picked it back up as I wanted to know how the story ended. I enjoyed the plot, but just wish it had moved along a little quicker. I felt that some of the details about the houses or people were repetitive and slowed down the story, or didn't keep me interested. However, I really enjoyed the banter between the two main characters.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone Publishing for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This Time Next Year is a beautiful story about how the world works in miraculous ways. Minnie Cooper always thought her birthday was cursed after her mom helped a fellow woman who was also giving birth. The woman beat her to have the first baby of the 90s and won the prize money. Then, the woman stole her baby's name, "Quinn." Every year Minnie had awful things happen to her on her birthday. During her 30th birthday, she meets Quinn after being stuck in a bathroom at a nightclub. Once she meets Quinn her life is changed. Quinn first seems like a pretentious man, but Minnie later finds out he is kindhearted, loving, and a wonderful friend. Over the next year, they grow a wonderful friendship. This book is an eye-opening story on finding yourself, going after your dreams, and being the best you can be. Minnie is a relatable 30-year-old girl who just wants to be happy, loved, and successful. I loved this book as throughout the years Quinn and Minnie kept missing each other, and it shows how little events and places in time can make a huge impact on you later in life. Minnie and Quinn's story is beautiful. I highly recommend you read This Time Next Year!
I didn't feel a lot of emotional attachment to Minnie, the female lead in this story. As I was reading, there were times when I was just so tired of reading about how awful her life was. I understand that might have been the point to the story but I also believe that everyone has SOMETHING good going on in their lives, but as this story moved on I was just getting so tired of hearing about the negativity. That being said, the story did pick up, and while I wasn't a huge fan of it, I also didn't NOT like it, if that makes sense. I was invested enough to read to the end to find out how everything ended.
This Time Next Year is about how Minnie and Quinn were born minutes apart and how they’ve shaped each other’s lives without knowing it. More than a love story, it shows how both Minnie and Quinn and their families grow and face their own battles
I had enjoyed reading this book for several reasons. The premise of them being born minutes apart and constantly meeting throughout their life is a trope I’ve watched or read before but it’s still interesting enough to keep me reading. Also, Minnie, whose point-of-view dominates the story, is a lovable character. Since I deal with some worries myself, I found her character relatable. It was also remarkable how the author was able to include the worries and problems of your typical millennial such as job loss, climate change, and the rising house prices and was able to tell it like how it really is. Brexit was also briefly mentioned. Minnie’s job was also inspiring since it shows that sustainable business models are doable. I also enjoyed the fact that Minnie’s life-changing decisions happened at the middle of the book instead of the usual sequence of life-changes, guy-gets-the-girl, the end. It’s refreshing to read and it emphasized what I think is the author’s point that you should be okay with yourself before being in a relationship.
Maybe the book did not want to be too much of a downer but I think the story of both their moms should have been expounded. It would have helped me to understand more how both of them turned out the way they are. How Connie had a generally negative vibe was not told and the difficulties in life experienced by Tara were only mentioned in passing even though one can see how difficult they are and how badly it affected her and her son. Also, how Quinn had changed his life might have warranted more story lines since he had some deep-seated issues he really needed to work on.
Overall, this novel has been a humorous, engaging, and heart-felt read. The main leads were funny and the side characters were all interesting. This book would be a perfect read if you want to relax on a beach, or with a cup of hot chocolate on a rainy day. Although it had mentioned some millennial problems, this is a perfect book to distract you from all the horribleness of the current pandemic and the social tensions around the world.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.
A well written, lovely read that doesn't disappoint. Sometimes all you want is a nice, refreshing love story without major complications. If you're looking for an easy read that will leave a nice feeling, then This Time Next Year is the perfect book for you.

I loved this story and the characters were great! Finished it as quickly as possible. Would definitely recommend!
Quinn and Minnie are born on New Year’s Eve, in the same hospital, one minute apart. I thought this book was really cute! I loved the original idea, and I think a lot of people will love the ending!
Oh my gosh. I ADORED this book. I mean, I had a strong feeling that I would when I saw the simplicity of the cover and read the first paragraph of the blurb and even the two little lines on the cover but I love when my feelings stay the same the whole way through the book. Basically I love it when I am right about a "feeling" LOL!
The best part about the entire book is the characters themselves. ALL OF THEM! Not just Minnie and Quinn but every single character we come in contact with leaves some kind of mark. They were quirky, selfish, argumentative, eccentric, and they were never boring. They were distinguished and they were all around great parts to the already great story-line. Their dialogue never lagged or dragged and it was the perfect mixture of seriousness and humor.
I wasn't crazy about the back and forth of the different New Years that these two people experienced but I could appreciate where the author was going with it. Seeing these two finally meet and experience life together (even in a non-romantic way) really was worth all of the back and forth.
You might think this is a romance novel-- it's not. It's so much more. This Time Next Year is about building friendships, family dynamics and most importantly loving yourself. And let me just tell you-- I love when the romance novels that I read contain so much more than JUST the romance.
Can I give this book 500 stars? I absolutely loved everything about it. The characters made me love them and hate them at the same time. Why must people in love be so stupid sometimes? I had to read this book without putting it down because I needed to know that there was a happy ending and I literally had to wait until the very last page to find out if I was going to have to cry myself to sleep over these fictional characters or not. I was so invested in every aspect of Minnie’s life that I did not want this book to end. Not to mention I wanted more steamy scenes between Quinn and Minnie. I absolutely adored how there were these subtle moments in each characters life that came back around in the end. I kept waiting for these characters to realize they were star crossed lovers from the start. I was rooting for them! I haven’t been this excited about a novel in such a long time.
