An Amish Singing is a story about 4 young Amish couples. I love these short stories as they are quick to read and I can finish one and come back later to begin another. The stories are sweet and clean and very good. They are wonderful for your young teen girls, yourself, your mom and your grandma. I am so glad that I was chosen by netgalley and Zondervan publishing to receive a complementary arc of this book in exchange for this my honest recview.
I love Amy Clipston! She always has great character development and never strays from the main characters. It makes for an easy read and holds your interest. This book of 4 stories is sweet and light. You will enjoy how the characters in each story know each other and how it builds on each story. Great book!
An Amish Singing tells the stories of four young couples, most of whom have been friends since childhood. Despite the challenges they face in their everyday lives, each young person continues to press on towards knowing God more intimately, while also seeing one of their friends in a new way. I enjoyed the faith aspects of this book, and that there was more of the Gospel discussed than I generally see in most Amish fiction.
This was a sweet, quick read, although some parts felt quite rushed. I also thought it was somewhat strange that this Amish community had so many unmarried young people in their twenties, but I have to admit I don't know much about the Amish aside from what I have learned in other Christian fiction novels.
If 3.5 stars was an option, I'd be giving this book a slightly higher rating.
*I received a copy of An Amish Singing through the publisher and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A. collection of 4 novellas of a group of Amish youths. Liked the first one the best, but all have worth. Highly recommend this book and author.
An Amish Singing is a delightful group of novellas featuring a group of young adult Amish friends who enjoying singing as a ministry for those in their community. As the friends develop deeper relationships with one another, romance develops as well. This book is an easy, fast read featuring many hymns from Christian and Amish churches. The characters grab a hold of your attention from beginning to end. Great read!
I am a huge fan of Amy Clipston! I never read a book of hers but that I feel like I am "in the story". When I began the book, I guess I didn't read the description of the book because I didn't realize it was four short stories. So when the first story was done, I was kinda left hanging. From when I continued with the next story, it continued on into the lives of these friends. This book didn't fail me. From the beginning, I was drawn into the lives of this group of Amish friends in the community of Bird-in-Hand. Each story tells the story of one main character in the group of friends and their relationships with a special person and also the entire group of friends. I loved the storylines and how all the friends worked together with their relationships.
Sharon & Jay are the couple in the first story. They have to work through cultural and religious beliefs and overcome some obstacles to continue in their relationship. The singing group of friends begins in this story where Sharon's mom feeds English people & to defer questions about their way of life, Sharon begins a tradition of singing to and with the group of Englishers.
Dave & Alice are the couple in the second story. Dave has gone through a tremendous tragedy of losing a friend recently and basically tries to shut himself off from the rest of the friends. Through the singing group of friends, Alice draws Dave out of his depression and helps him find peace back into his life.
The third story continues with the group of friends and Darlene & Andrew are the couple highlighted in this story. Darlene's mom has been battling cancer which causes her to somewhat withdraw from the group of friends at times. Through her mom's battle, Darlene and Andrew become closer and he helps her to understand more of life's challenges.
In the last story, Elaine and her family moves to town. Elaine has left behind a group of friends who were not really the friends she thought they were and in that process, she has acquired some trust issues with people. She becomes a part of the group of friends and they (especially Calvin) help her to learn to love and trust people again ,
I would like to thank the publisher, Zondervan Fiction & Net Galley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest & unbiased opinion.
A sincere thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for providing me with an ebook copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This is not my usual genre, I’m more into crime/thriller books and even psychological thrillers too so I am extremely pleased and grateful to them for opening up my mind to something totally different.
