Guy Raz is probably one of the most popular podcasters out there. Between "How I Built This" and previously "TED Radio Hour," Raz has established himself as a go-to speaker. He asks interesting questions and presents us with scenarios we often have little daily contact with--it's quite the long way up to the entrepreneurs of fortune 500-type companies. These are millionaries, visionaries, and the like, but we get a very personal and introspective account from these daring businessmen.
The book is very much an organic collection of his many podcasts, from Jeff Bezos of Amazon to the AirBnB co-founders. The companies are varied, but themes about starting a business emerge from the weeds, about tenacity and luck and resiliency. All important notions that end up feeling not so alien to us normal citizens after all. How I Built This provides a wide berth of examples to satisfy our curiosity about what's going on in those minds and how our most familiar of technologies, products, and services came to fruition. The podcasts are easier to digest in short snippets, but this book nonetheless does a great job of piecing them together in a smooth-flowing narrative. Especially if you've never checked out Guy Raz before, I'd send you to this book and Raz's podcast!

I first started listening to Guy Raz's popular podcast a few years ago, mostly on car trips. It was a podcast that our kids could overhear and it kept both my husband and I engaged. This book is exactly the same content as the podcast. It is inspirational and interesting. I liked how it was organized more by topic rather than entrepreneur. However, if you have listened to the podcast a lot (like I have), it's really nothing new. Its basically a business ethics books with examples.
So, I would recommend it to those interested in business books or interested in the formulation and running of a business, but this was nothing new for me.

Podcaster Guy Raz has a new September book releases based on his popular NPR podcast How I Built This. Having interviewed hundreds of successful entrepreneurs, Raz has all the insights you need to build your business. Reminding me of Malcolm Gladwell or Charles Duhigg, Raz outlines the steps to building a successful business with interesting anecdotes. Yet, Raz isn't as strong a writer as either Gladwell or Duhigg so I felt the book lacked the magic of either of their books. My suggestion: skip the book in favor of the podcast.

How I Built This by Guy Raz. Interesting insights into real life entrepreneurs' journey to success. Well written and easy to read.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

If you are familiar with NPR's, Guy raz of How I built this, then this is not new to you.
The stories inside the book bring alive the humans, their doubts, their trials and success. It has a memoir like quality to it.
