This book did not hold my attention at all. I read the first twenty percent, skimmed the middle sixty percent, then read the final twenty without feeling that I missed anything. Lisa Black has a way of repeating herself, and then looking at the same scene from different angles, throws in hardboiled science, then calls it a day.

Jack and Maggie’s so-called bond is starting to wear thin. They each hold the other’s secret, but now it does not seem to matter. Their lives have moved forward, Maggie’s ex-husband is trying to put Jack’s pieces together, but all that comes to a crashing halt when Jack and Maggie, and Rick and his partner, are called out to separate crime scenes that turn out to have more in common than what appears at first glance. After a couple of murders, fraud, money laundering, and a pill mill, there is one final scene that might complicate Jack and Maggie’s lives, but then again, with these two, nothing is ever guaranteed.

I don’t know what happened with this book. It was flat, disjointed, throw everything at the proverbial wall, be done with it, and call it book six. Anyone starting with this book would find it a struggle to start the series from the beginning.

A carefully built team of Maggie Gardner and Jack Renner reunite to solve a young man's death. This team is bound together by their agreement to keep secret Jack's enforcement of justice when legal resources fail. As #6 in the series, EVERY KIND OF WICKED centers on the unique actions of the victim's circle of friends and how easily it is to thrown suspicion when trust is lacking. Lisa Black is skilled at keeping her stories moving and giving her characters all the traits and misgivings that make us human.

I'd like to thank the author, publisher and Net Galley for providing a free e-book in exchange for my honest review.

When I requested this book, I didn't realize it was part of a series. This edition is book 6 in a series. I haven't read much, if anything, by Lisa Black before, and haven't read others in this series. I"m not sure if that really affects my review or not. Overall, I really didn't care for the book. I found it to move rather slowly and it was far too easy to set it aside for a few days or a week before coming back to it. I had a very hard time connecting to the characters at all, the setting, the mystery - it just didn't work for me. The characters seemed rather robotic and not fleshed out in any way. I didn't care who the killer was, I only cared that the book was done.

I can't pinpoint what was so wrong about this book for me, but I'm really having a hard time coming up with anything positive to say.

This story is well written and has great characters, but there are some unnecessary rantings and repetitions. The plot also has a few logical problems, but it's entertaining fiction.

I did not know this was a sequel, so I came into this story unaware of the relationship between Maggie Gardiner, forensic expert, and Detective Jack Renner. It didn’t hurt the story any, but it might have added to it! Death brings the two back to the cemetery where Maggie first met Jack. A young man is found with a fatal wound to his heart and leads them to a university where his girlfriend is grieving his loss. Eventually the case leads them to a pill-pushing doctor. Meanwhile, Maggie’s ex-husband Rick is sure that Jack is part of a vigilante killing, and soon the two cases merge. This is another good police procedural, and I plan to go back and read the other books in the series in order this time! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC!

Every Kind of Wicked Gardiner and Renner #6 by Lisa Black is not only suspenseful but the subject matter of part of the 'wicked' really is eye-opening. We all know to beware of phone scammers, but there are some people who are very vulnerable to the fear associated with the scam. There are many levels to this plot and a lot going on in this book.
Forensic specialist Maggie Gardiner is called to a scene in a cemetery where a young man has been stabbed. The piercing weapon has not been identified and soon Detective Jack Renner has to collaborate with Maggie's ex-husband Rick, who is a homicide detective. This is not an ideal situation due to the distrust Rick has for Jack. The background on the animosity between the two men is covered in the previous books in the series.
As the investigation begins, Jack and Riley find the fist victim, Evan Harding's apartment. When his girlfriend. Shanaya Thomas appears she withholds information which could help find a motive for the murder. What else does she know which affects this case? Shanaya holds many answers to different levels of mystery in this case.
I am appalled at how callous people can be as they swindle and steal from the unsuspecting. Shanaya has no remorse or qualms about lying to others.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.

Apparently, this book is part of a series, and I didn't know that when I started it. I am not sure if my review would be different if I'd read the others, however.

I found this book to be drawn out and slow. I didn't feel as though it ever hit its groove. The characters weren't fleshed out and felt almost robotic. If I am being honest, the book was dry. There wasn't a sense of urgency, even though people were dying right and left. It was slow, and plodding, and honestly I never really cared who the killer was, I just wanted the book to be over. I even stopped reading it for a week and read other books because I just couldn't get into it. I had to force myself to finish this book. I am sure some out there will like it, but it was just a miss for me.

Cleveland PD CSI Maggie Gardiner is back at the historic Erie Street Cemetery where she first learned that her partner detective Jack Renner is also a vigilante killer who takes out criminals who escape traditional justice. The body of a young man lying there in the snow leads Maggie and Jack on a wild journey through Cleveland’s hidden streets that hold check cashing schemes, money laundering and robocall centers that defraud the public.

Love this series and always learn new information about Cleveland history. Series best read in order. This one is hard to put down.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Maggie Gardiner is still keeping Jack Renner's secrets, while waiting for him to either leave as promised or for the entire house of cards to fall around her ears. To fully appreciate this book, you should read the entire series to understand how Maggie and Jack are connected. This chapter moves their story forward in all sorts of ways.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Every Kind of Wicked by Lisa Black that I read and reviewed.
This was another book in the Maggie Gardiner series and I loved it. In this book Maggie and Jack found themselves full circle with a case that led them back to the cemetery where they met and formed their alliance to keep secrets that would keep them working together to protect Jack’s secrets.
In this book they have a number of murders to solve and one that is really close to Maggie. This book is full of police procedure and a lot of questions about who the police are looking for. I also love it that things between Jack and Maggie seem to be heating up as well.
This is a great addition to the series and an excellent read. Every kind of Wicked gets five out of five stars from me.

This may make more sense if previous in the series was read. Whatever jack did is left up to the imagination. The story seemed disjointed and the end convoluted and involved.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc

Lisa Black brings us back into the lives of Gardiner and Renner. The mysterious death of a young man found in a cemetery leads them to work closely together. The weapon isn’t obvious not a bullet or a knife. Death was fast and efficient. Homicide detective Jack Renner and his partner Detective Thomas Riley are assigned the case. They bring in Forensic specialist Maggie Gardiner. Maggie and Jack have a history that led them to pretend to be dating. No one knows what is really between them. More similar murder victims with no apparent reason to be connected lead them in circles. They spin their wheels with being lied to and forensic evidence that is pretty strange.
This is well written and kept my interest throughout. The story moves along quickly and if you like murder mysteries and great likable characters who are totally believable you will enjoy this book. I’m an avid fan of murder mystery with believability. Gardiner and Renner have a chemistry they aren’t even aware of but they are tied to each other with a bond they must not reveal. Excellent fast read. Thank you Lisa Black, NetGalley and Kensington Publishers for allowing me to read this ARC. My honest opinion is I will recommend this book to my friends.

EVERY KIND OF WICKED ..Lisa Jackson
Maggie was a forensic specialist, to find evidence of why the death. The snow was a definite hinderance, beside having frozen the body,
A friend Rick, she confides in , the office though it was more, she let them think there was. Now her ex is going on his own to Chicago and Minneapolis to check Rick out, which is not like him. Maggie is worried of what he will find, even though Rick says he won’t,he has nothing to hid.
The deceased and a girlfriend lived on campus, new job, spoke last at 4 p m.
They never heard of Evani, at the job site, the girlfriend lied. What else was she lying about.
Good flowing story, with the detail workings of a forensic specialist, Maggie and Jack work well together. Plot continues of how fraud and scams work and some humor, enjoyed more then the previous book, this was well done. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion and Net Galley and Kensington

This book was so much better than the previous one in the series!! I am upset that it ended and I now have to wait for the next book to come out because the ending was AMAZING!!!!! I absolutely loved the humor in the characters thoughts, how they interact with each other and how several mysteries and deaths all merged together. It was SO GOOD!!!!!!!

This was a very action packed and exciting read. I really like the main characters Maggie and Jack and the dark secret that they share that binds them together. With lots of forensic science, police work and some really bad guys thrown into the mix made Black’s latest instalment another great addition to this awesome series.

Good mystery. I enjoyed the forensic aspects of the book, and I also liked all the information on fraud. It was interesting to understand how people run scams by robo calling. It was fun trying to figure out exactly what was going on, the story definitely kept you guessing. Apparently, this is an on going series, so there is a back story that I knew little about., a little more info would of lent to a better stand alone, as Jack is definitely a mystery. Regardless, this a solid police procedural type book, and a good read.
