Hello

Apologies for the late notice, but I have decided not to review this title.

While I am certain it's obvious by now, I wanted to also clear this off NetGalley, so it's not showing as open for either of us.

I look forward to continuing to work with you in 2023 and beyond.

Laura

Another cracking book from Lisa Jackson. This is the third in the San Francisco series and it will keep you hooked with the twists and turns that you come to expect from a Jackson's work,

Why is James Cahill in hospital at the start of the book? Where is his girlfriend and what has happened to her? Why doesn't James remember anything? All is clearly not what it seems! The story keeps you gripped to find out the answers to all of these questions and more.

A recommended read if you love Lisa Jackson's many previous books and worth a try if you haven't read any of hers yet.

Lisa Jackson is one of my favorite authors and this book did not disappoint. I had not read the previous books in the Cahill series but enjoyed this book nonetheless. Can be read as a stand-alone but I would recommend reading them in order to have the full sense of who each character is.

I love the drama of the Cahill family. With all of their lies and scandals, I couldn't stop listening to this. I had to know what was going to happen next and who the murderer was. I will definitely go back to read books 1 and 2 while anxiously awaiting book 4.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and the publisher.

You Betrayed Me is the third book in the Cahills series. Author Lisa Jackson is the queen of penning stories chock full of drama, lies, and murder, and this one didn't disappoint. If you're looking for a psychological thriller that's seeped in soap opera drama, look no further. This is your series!

I love the way Lisa Jackson writes, so I was excited to read the third book in The Cahills series. You Betrayed Me was even better than the first two books. I love the crazy Cahill Family with all their drama, lies and murder!! Sign me up!! Jackson kept me guessing until the very end. I highly recommend starting with the first book so you don’t miss any details.

I was anticipating an intense mystery that I have enjoyed in the past by this author. However, once again I was duped and discovered this was basically a soap opera hidden behind a twisted psychological thriller cover. I did not like the characters and the relationship drama gagged me. I will start being more selective when deciding whether to read future books by this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing Corporation for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

The Cahills collect scandals the way they acquire money, attracting murder, greed, and those who covet their wealth like flies to a dung hill. James Cahill divides his time between his contracting company and a long line of women. But choices have a way of catching up, and James wakes up in the hospital bruised, battered, and missing a chunk of his memory.

They tell him his girlfriend, Megan, vanished after a big fight between the two. In addition, the police and her sister — his ex — Rebecca believe him responsible. James recognizes — barely — the blond who visits him as Sophia, the woman he’s been cheating with, leaving him to wonder if there is any truth to the accusations or if someone is taking advantage of his faulty memory.

Lisa Jackson’s You Betrayed Me is not a story of good vs. bad, but bad vs. worse. As the title indicates, it is a tale of betrayal and its spiraling effects. With a womanizing protagonist, a kleptomaniac detective, a fortune-hunting girlfriend who steals her sister’s boyfriend, and obsessed and deranged women who feel plucked out of a Lifetime movie, the story didn’t provide a single likeable character.

While I will do my best to avoid spoilers, I do believe the following potential triggers need to be addressed. One character wakes up to find another straddling him/her having sex. While the two had been previously involved, it was extremely disturbing; especially considering Character A had been asleep and on medication so there had been no consent. It was rape, plain and simple. Yet the story never addressed it as such. While Character A seemed a bit put off, s/he never seemed overly upset and disregarded the severity of it, even going on to think of Character B in ways that didn’t acknowledge what had occurred. If all this weren’t bad enough, it didn’t happen once, or twice, but three times.

While the writing itself is solid and the settings vividly portrayed, the lack of characters to root for and the unsettling way in which worrisome events were handled had me setting aside the book multiple times and struggling to review it. You Betrayed Me is one novel I will do my best to forget and unfortunately cannot recommend.

The Cahill family always intrigues me. That family has more skeletons than a cemetery. So many secrets and indiscretions from one family is a lot to comprehend, but Ms. Jackson does it beautifully.

In this latest installment we're focused on James Cahill. Located outside of San Francisco for this story, we're in the mountains where you know anything can happen.

James wakes up with no memory of what put him in the hospital. To make matters worse his girlfriend, or ex depending on who you ask, is missing. Gone without a trace.

The police are hinting that James is the culprit, but the one thing James is certain of is that he is not responsible for Megan's disappearance. It's up to him to remember that fateful night and get to the bottom of what actually happened.

Thrilling from beginning to finish. Lisa Jackson's books always give me the great satisfaction of reading a well crafted story.

This is my first book by Lisa Jackson. She definitely has a gift for writing a thriller that will keep you hooked! I found this story to be so over the top that at times I would laugh out loud. Every female character in the story seemed to be in love with James Cahill. I was waiting for the men to start falling for him too. This story just got to be silly.

I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining.

Another enjoyable Lisa Jackson read! I don't think I have read the others in the Cahill series, but this was also a standalone story.

For those readers around in the 1980s, this definitely had a sense of the American soap opera about it. 'Dallas' and 'Dynasty' eat your heart out!

The story begins with a tantalising glimpse into an isolated cabin where someone is being held captive, before launching into the story.

James Cahill, from the infamous San Francisco Cahill family, wealthy and single, is a player. We see Megan, hysterical and vengeful after her discovery that James is seeing another woman, Sophie. We see Megan's sister ,Rebecca ,turning up to investigate her sister's subsequent unexplained disappearance. We discover that Megan was actually successor to her sister's relationship with James, and based on lies! Complicated and messy!

James Cahill meanwhile, lies on a hospital bed after being found at home, unconscious with a head injury. He claims amnesia and we are party to his memory very slowly returning as the story is very gradually pieced together.

The story is slightly confusing in parts. There are lots of main characters including some in disguise, and we are never quite sure who we should trust.

Also, I was never 100% sure who exactly it was in the cabin right at the very beginning.

Despite these relatively minor issues, it was an enjoyable story...with the ending left open for a sequel!

I give this book 3 stars.

Thanks Net Galley, Kensington Books and Lisa Jackson for an ARC. This was a very interesting book, different from what I was expecting but in a good way. The story kept me hooked from page one, even though there were too many characters to keep track of in this story. I haven’t read the first books of the series, but definitely will.

Same Cahill drama. This family drama should have ended 2 books ago. Too much of same repetitive information going on. I was not moved as I usually am with Lisa Jackson's work.

I have always loved Lisa Jackson's books. I quickly skimmed this one. I never warmed to Cahill and that was to be expected. The murders and plot didn't resonate with me...I just couldn't see it really happening and to leave it hanging with Sophia perhaps coming back after Cahill later...nah. I wouldn't be able to rate this highly and as I did not read word for word, because the story did not seem to warrant it, I won't write a review and post it to various sites as I usually do. That said, thank you. I am sure that many will enjoy the book. I wish I had liked it more :(

I struggled to get through this book at times as there were some plot holes and it was repetitive in several places. I pushed through and the great reveal and action sequence in the end was not bad, but I’m left feeling like I could have stopped or finished and it was all the same. I liked some of the side characters, my favorite was the detective that had unique tricks to putting himself into the mindset of his suspects and victims. The basic premise is we have a poor little rich boy, James, who can’t seem to date only one woman at any given time, but even knowing this, sometimes before the relationship starts, they all seem to think he’s irresistible. Lots of family and relationship drama and a decent mystery mostly revolving around a missing girls, Megan, James’ latest official girlfriend.

In this exciting read by Jackson we meet James Cahill who is part of the San Francisco Cahill's who are known for their money. James awakens the hospital and doesn't seem to remember much of what brought him there. He soon learns that his girlfriend is missing and it looks like he was the last one to see her alive. It doesn't help that he was cheating on his girlfriend with someone who works for him. As the pieces of his memory start to come back he realizes that Megan learned about his relationship with Sophia and she was less than happy with him, she was the reason he ended up in the hospital and he has no idea where she went after leaving his house. To make matters worse her sister Rebecca shows up in town wanting to know what happened to her sister. He truly has no idea but he has a terrible feeling that he knows more than his memory is showing him. It doesn't help that his family is known for their scandals, he doesn't want to end up another example. Follow along as he slowly puts the pieces together in hopes of figuring out what exactly happened to Megan and whether he had a part in it. This was a thrilling read that had me on edge until the end!

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of the book for an honest review.

While I do normally LOVE Lisa Jackson, this book was a little all over the place for me. A lot of characters, a lot of drama, this is one of the few times I think the movie would be better than the book.

With tons of twists and turns, the book had an almost "soapy" vibe. The main character (James Cahill) is a serial womanizer and one I tended not to like. He's wrapped up in one scandal after another, with more characters than I can count.

Fans of Lisa Jackson may pick this one up and love it., but it was not a shooting star for me.

I couldn’t get into this book. I’ve enjoyed reading Lisa Jackson. I only made it 100 pages into the book.
