Thanks to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book for an honest opinion.

I was very intrigued by this book from the blurb and enjoyed it from the outset. There is a lot of drama from the start and throughout. It seemed a bit like a soap opera and leaves you wondering what might happen next and to whom. There were also some truly crazed characters and the rich James Cahill doesn't come off too well either. Maybe it's his womanising ways with every woman in town trying to throw themselves at him. He did after all wake in a hospital, having lost his memory and then all he can remember is cheating on his girlfriend who now seems to have disappeared.

I loved the location in this book, the Cascade Mountains in the state of Washington and almost felt I could be there.

The book did appear out of order at times as did go back to deal with another character, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I wouldn't say I loved the characters, but they were very well written and I loved all the twists and turns throughout. I couldn't wait to see "who had done it!. Thanks for a great book to switch off from the real life issues we're currently facing. Looking forward to the next and to try out others by this author and I hadn't realised it was part of a series as could easily be read as a standalone, but I'm very keen to read the others now. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Thank you to NetGalley, Lisa Jackson and Kensington Books for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this novel and the many different directions that it took to solve the crime. I did find it a long novel. but I was generally interested in the majority of it. It was hard to know who to trust in this novel and I enjoyed seeing all the different perspectives and some of them really led you to the wrong conclusion. I enjoyed the small town, dark and spooky atmosphere that continues throughout the whole novel. I was surprised by the ending and I really enjoyed how shocking it was.

James Cahill is good looking and charming, which attracts loads of women. He is from a mega-rich San Francisco family and is set to inherit millions. You Betrayed Me by Lisa Jackson is the third installment in the Cahill series, featuring different members of the Cahill family. The family is not only wealthy, but has scandals, suspicious deaths, and other maladies in their past. James doesn’t want to rely on his inheritance, and is trying to make his own money with a successful construction company as well as other businesses. His main fault is that he can’t stay away from women. He wakes up in the hospital one day after having a terrible fight with Megan, his latest girlfriend who attacked him because he was cheating with Sophia, a girl that works for him and won’t stop coming on to him. Unfortunately, Megan is missing, and James is blamed, even though he doesn’t remember what happened. Megan’s sister, Rebecca, who was also a previous girlfriend, comes to find her sister, (who betrayed her by stealing James). James isn’t sure if he is guilty of murder.

Lisa Jackson’s storytelling skills are excellent, and this novel has dozens of twists and turns to keep readers on the edge of their seats. Jackson develops her characters well, and they seem real, albeit a bit shallow. Although there are several different stories going on in the novel, Jackson keeps them separate enough that they are easy to follow and will keep readers on the edges of their seats. Of course, the dénouement is a surprise, and there are issues that could turn into another novel starring these same characters.

Fans of Lisa Jackson will welcome this novel and enjoy reading it. Although it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone book.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Thank you, @netgalley for the ARC of #LisaJackson’s #YouBetrayedMe, which is the third book in the Cahill series — although I didn’t even realize it was part of a series until after I researched the author. She did a nice job of mentioning some things that happened in Cahill history, but it didn’t take away from this story at all.

Rich and handsome playboy James Cahill has a bad habit of moving from one girlfriend to the next before properly ending a relationship. This bad habit just caught up with him. His current girlfriend has suddenly gone missing after he’s found beaten and unconscious in his home. Said girlfriend’s sister blows into town looking for her—she also happens to be the one who last got dumped. Other related suspects are James’ new girlfriend, who he’s been cheating with, and another ex from before the current ex. You get the picture. There’s also a sweet ass German Shepherd and tiny houses! I enjoyed this mystery and complicated love octagon and will also be checking out the previous books in this series.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / You Betrayed Me by Lisa Jackson / Pages: 448 / Genre: Mysteries & Thrillers

I enjoy this author so when I saw this I had to request it. It is part of a series however it reads as a stand alone. I have not read the first two books and I enjoyed this book.

James wakes up in a hospital and can't remember anything. Not who he is, what happened to him or who the people are around him. However things start to come back to him slowly. He soon learns that there is an investigation for his missing x-girlfriend. He has no idea what's happened or who might have taken her. He is front and center as a person of interest.

This is a great little who done it book. Keeps you guessing and you just might want to double check your circle of friends after.

Even though this is the third book in Lisa Jackson's Cahill Family series, you don't need to have read the first two installments to understand the story. The Cahills are an obscenely rich family, which is something every soap opera needs. And make no mistake: this book is 100% soap opera with all its trappings. It includes twins, amnesia, family scandals, kidnappings, murder, pregnancies conceived out of revenge, incest, inheritances, and every other trope you can imagine.

At the beginning of the story, James Cahill wakes up with amnesia. James is the heir to the Cahill family fortune, and true to fashion, he's a playboy with a long list of lovers, many of whom appear in the novel's pages. It was a little confusing keeping up with them all.

The book could have done with a good edit. There were a lot of filler words that could have been removed to tighten the narrative. But if you're looking for an entertaining story that is divorced from reality, this might be the book for you. One of James's former girlfriends has gone missing, and her sister (also a past girlfriend) is on the search. Then there is Sophia, who often appears uninvited in James's bed. She even starts having sex with him while he's still unconscious. (It seems to me that James should have woken up before things could get that far, but whatever.)

Did I mention it is 100% soap opera?

The blurb certainly grabs your attention and gives you clue about what to expect. Money. Betrayal. A missing person.

James is the handsome, womanizer rich boy who wakes up in the hospital with short-term memory loss and a bunch of scratches and bruises. Slowly, the events that led to him being hospitalized come to him, and he realizes he is in trouble. But what he doesn't know is that what is happening around him is much bigger than him and his womanizing ways. Much bigger.

I've enjoyed my fair share of thrillers and mysteries, but I can't say I enjoyed this book a 100%.. There were the twists and turns, the convoluted motive, the villain, the characters that figure it out and those that just meddle and gossip. Exactly what I've come to expect from the genre However, this book read just like the TELENOVELAS I grew up watching back in Puerto Rico. There were characters galore and each and every one of them had something to add to the story. Not usually a problem in the grand scheme of things. But it also means way too many POVs and characters to keep track of but not the proper transitions to give the reader a chance to switch gears. For me, the story felt disjointed with all the jumping around between the change in POVs, the characters remembering past events and the going back and forth between the day the initial conflict began and the weeks leading to the final resolution. In the end, it came to be too much for me. I followed through and read the whole book, but I can't lie and say that it was enjoyable. There was just TOO MUCH of everything.

That said, I'm sure there are people who would enjoy this story, it just wasn't for me.

An entertaining and complicated mystery thriller that involves murder, greed, revenge, big money, and fatal attraction.

James Cahill is the son of a San Francisco family with vast wealth but he has moved away to Riggs Crossing, Washington, to start his own enterprises -- building tiny houses, a Christmas tree farm, and a quaint little inn. Unfortunately, he's the target of a lot of gold diggers due to his good looks and eventual inheritance. He wakes up in the local hospital with a head injury and amnesia. His current girlfriend, Megan Travers, is missing. Detective Brett Rivers and his partner, Wynonna Mendoza, soon come calling with many questions. It quickly becomes clear that Megan was not James's only girlfriend and this complicates the investigation into Megan's disappearance. NO SPOILERS.

What a convoluted tale full of a huge cast of characters told in multiple viewpoints. I struggled to find even one character that I liked as they were all complex and some were very nasty. Although it was fast-paced, there was a lot of repetition and my least favorite parts were those written italics. I had not read the previous 2 books in this series, but this felt OK as a standalone and seemed complete.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for this e-book ARC to read and review.

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Heidi

ames Cahill has a bad habit of starting new relationships with women without ending his current relationship first! Women tend to get angry about that. And, that’s what happened between him and Megan Travers. Megan found out he’d been seeing Sophia Russo behind her back. It resulted in a horrible fight between James and Megan. A fight that ended with James in the hospital with a head injury and Megan missing. James is possibly the last person that saw Megan, making him the prime suspect in the police investigation.

And, as time passes worry for Megan intensifies, bringing her sister, Rebecca to town. The woman that Megan stole James from! James has never stopped having feelings for Rebecca and considers her as the one that got away.

James is set to inherit a fortune on top of the wealth he has accumulated on his own. The money makes him a top prospect for many women … if only they can keep his eye (and other body parts) from wandering. But could one of them be responsible for what’s happened to Megan?

More women are starting to end up dead. Are the murders connected to Megan’s disappearance? It’s up to police detectives Brett Rivers and Wynonna Mendoza to get the bottom of what’s going on in their small town. They must hurry to find answers to save more lives and find Megan before it’s too late.

I’ve always enjoyed Lisa Jackson’s writing, but it’s been awhile since I’ve read one of her books. And, sadly this book was a massive disappointment to me. There was just too much going on at once to get invested in this story. It became a bit monotonous and one-dimensional. And, every woman in town seemed to want to trap James into a relationship for his money … and his house and hotel room were way too easy for people to get in to! There was also a lot of pregnancies going around! I found a lot of the characters in the book, including some of the victims, to be unnecessary to the story. They just seemed to bog the storyline down even more.

I found all these random seeming murders hard to connect, honestly. They seemed so vastly different that I had a tough time figuring out why the characters in the book thought they were connected.

There was a plot twist that I didn’t see coming. However, it wasn’t enough to save this book for me. There was also a huge cliff-hanger at the end of the story that I know will frustrate some. There is nothing in this book that makes me want to reach out for the next installment though.

Lisa Jackson spins a story that takes you slowly into it and pulls you into it in such a way that by the end of it I just was not able to stay away from the story!

James Cahill is a member of the Cahill family of San Francisco who are famous for their wealth and scandals in their life. When James Cahill finds himself in the hospital not remembering what has happened before that day, with a suspicion of harming his girl friend Megan, he finds himself in a place difficult to squirm out.
Many past girl friends come out and along come Detectives Rivers and Mendoza trying to solve the case. To add to this is Detective Rivers out of the box ability to get into the opposite persons mind.

The author kept me hooked to the story with its many characters who are aptly placed in the plot. Each having their own past and a role in the story. Not a single character seemed out of place or unnecessary. With a scope for sequel, the author has kept me waiting for the next one.The story does seem a bit long and it took me some time to get into the story, but then no regrets. What could have been different was that the role of the detectives seemed a bit underplayed.

If you love to read mysteries with many characters and many potential suspects, detectives and story that keeps giving you different angles then you will enjoy the story.

I thank Kensington publishers, author and Netgalley for approving me to read and review the book. The opinions expressed are wholly mine

You Betrayed Me by Lisa Jackson is a highly recommended novel of suspense and the third book featuring a member of the Cahill family.

In the opening a woman has been tazed and left as a prisoner in a tiny house locked from the outside. James Cahill, an heir to the Cahill fortune, awakens in the hospital in Washington State. He's had a concussion and is bruised and beaten with obvious fingernail scratches down his cheek. He's in pain, medicated, and has no recollection of what happened that caused his hospitalization. He does have a vague recollection of his girlfriend, Megan Travers, and some argument. He learns that Megan has gone missing and he was the last person to see her. When a blond sneaks in to visit him, he doesn't recognize her at first. Then it comes to him that she is Sophia Russo, the woman he has been cheating with. Police are looking into his injuries while trying to find Megan. As their investigation continues and the media follows it, it is clear to everyone that James has a provable reputation as a serial Lothario. Then Megan's sister, Rebecca, shows up, trying to find clues to his sister's whereabouts. She was previously yet another girlfriend of James.

The first thing you need to know is that there are a vast number of serial romantic liaisons and encounters in this novel. The suspense does take the forefront, but, goodness, there was a bit too much of the other for me, someone who loves suspense but avoids romance novels. The second thing you need to know is that there really isn't a likeable character here. The third thing you need to know is that You Betrayed Me has a collection of odd characters, twisty happenings, and the feeling that no one can be trusted.

As mentioned, none of the characters are likeable or sympathetic. They are well-developed characters, but It's hard to feel a whole lot of compassion for James, a serial philanderer who has a hard time thinking with his brain. The woman are just as bad, but they are mostly a bunch of opportunists looking at the wealth James will inherit someday. Other characters include Detective Rivers, who has a sort of sixth sense he keeps quiet about, a journalist sure that this story will make her mark, an odd girl secretly spying on James and Sophia, and various towns people.

The writing is very good in this psychological thriller and the suspense created is what will keep you glued to the pages as you try to figure out exactly what is happening. Jackson keeps specifics to herself while slowly allowing more details to come out in the story, but pay careful attention to what she doesn't say and don't let implied facts slip you up. I'm giving this advice, but I got carried away with the story and didn't follow it. I played right into Jackson's hand and was surprised several times with the turns the story took.

This was book 3 in the Cahill series. There are too many characters to sort out and they is no depth to them. The story falls flat and you can figure out the entire story in the beginning. This book would have benefited if it wasn't stretched out so long.

The Cahills once again find themselves at the center of a scandal when young James wakes up in the hospital to find his girlfriend is missing and no memory of the event, at all. The police are on the case and he seems to be the lead suspect. There is however a lot more going on than you could even imagine. The ultimate womanizer may have just met his match. Twist and turns abound and more than one heart will be broken. There is a lot going on in this book and at times it was a little much. Multiple view points and a little messy, but all in all a four star read for me.

This is the third book in the Cahill family series and it's definitely worth reading. The Cahill family is always immersed in scandal and this book follows the same path. Solid writing and a book full of twists and turns are what you can expect when you read this book. I recommend this book.

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publishers for allowing me to read ARC.

This is a typical Lisa Jackson thriller. Intense, overly dramatic, not great writing but still I wanted to know who done it. Ms. Jackson is not short on ideas for gripping thrillers. Her characters are not complex and not developed. I don't think Ms. Jackson wants to do that. Just start with a compelling sentence, off to the races and, if you have nothing better to do, read to the end.

This book has a lot of twists and turns. There are some very strange characters in this book. This is not your typical Lisa Jackson book. There is some weird stuff going on. It was very interesting to read. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley..

You Betrayed Me is the third title in The Cahills series, and this addition to the series will keep you guessing, reassessing your “bad guy” choices throughout until the very end.

A couple of things to take note of… the timeline of events seems to jump around a lot. There were times when the timing alone kept me from figuring out who exactly is the true villain in this story. And villains… there really is no “good guy” to root for aside from the detectives on the case, Brett Rivers and Wynona Mendoza, and perhaps that was the point in many ways. I couldn’t find one redeeming quality for any of the Cahill related characters that we’re introduced to or have to figure out who has pulled off this disappearance.

For me, You Betrayed Me was an intricate web that spun off in so many directions that I stopped trying to solve the puzzle and just got lost in the story. And that is as far as I’m willing to go with details.

You will find twists and turns, lies and more lies, false clues, red herrings, and not be able to believe one thing that any character (aside from the detectives investigating) says. It’s an intense story without anyone to root for… and frankly, that felt uncomfortable. Effective, yes, but not a style I’m accustomed to. I’ve always felt that Lisa Jackson is a master storyteller, and that still holds true for me… but I do wish I could have liked someone aside from the investigators in this story.

If you enjoy making puzzle pieces fit into a complete picture, then you’ll enjoy the intrigue and mystery of You Betrayed Me.
