Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for the ARC. I believe this was my first book by Lisa Jackson. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were very interesting to read about. Many twists and turns, very engaging, which kept me reading and I really did not want to stop until the mystery was solved. I will definitely read more by this author.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Megan went missing the day she broke up with James for cheating. That same night James suffered a concussion and lost some of his memory. Megan's sister Rebecca comes to town to find answers about her sister. Rebecca also dated James many years ago. This book had me hooked from the first page.
This was a pretty solid read.
The first half was pretty slow and it took me a while to get into the reading flow. There was a lot of relationship and other interpersonal drama which I could have done without, and which I thought was rather unnecessary. The second half picked up and I liked the ending a lot, especially the epilogue was definitely really fun. The story itself was decently set up, creepy, and definitely suspenseful.
Lisa Jackson is a best-selling writer for a reason. This book, however, is a little more daytime TV for me. It's Falcon Crest and Days of Our Lives.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This was not the usual Lisa Jackson fare that I’ve enjoyed so much in the past. This was the 3rd in a series, but felt more like an episode of a TV soap opera.
I’ll look forward to more of her old style plotting. This was simply not for me.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Kensington Books, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Where's Megan and who beat James? Those are the two questions in this twisty novel of suspense. James is a real cad- he's been with multiple women at the same time- and now it's come back to haunt him, except that he's got brain fog. Or does he? Megan, his current girl friend, found out that he was cheating on her with Sophia, who insists that he did something to Megan. Rebecca, who is Megan's sister and - wait for it- also an ex- is desperate to find her. Plus, there's a woman locked in a room. And it's snowing. There's a lot of drama here; the plot is a bit over the top. However, it's also compulsively readable, which is a tribute to Jackson's ability to pace her plot and her writing. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A page turner.

I didn't realize this was the third book in a series until I was nearly done with it, but it didn't matter. The background information would have been nice and would have added to the story, but it was a standalone novel.
Megan Travers has a fight with her boyfriend James Cahill. James is knocked unconscious and has no memory of the evening when he finally wakes in the hospital. Megan flees town, en route to her sister's place in Seattle, when she is abducted on the mountain road. The bodies start to pile up, and the police need to find Megan and figure out who is behind everything.
The first half of this book felt very slow to me, and it took me a while to get into it. But things picked up in the second half, and it went super fast. Not Lisa Jackson's best work, but twisty and a little creepy, especially in the second half.
I'm so sorry. I really tried witb this but I just wasn't excited when going to pick it up again. Terribly sorry I didn't finish it xx
This is a book with no really likable characters, which means two things to me: First, it's a rare opportunity to root for a bad guy (or gal), and second, I really didn't care who got bumped off.
This is the third in the author's "Cahills" series, but it's my first; that said, I never felt as if I should have known something that wasn't here, meaning it stands alone just fine as far as I'm concerned. The Cahills, for the record, are obscenely rich; most of the remaining family, whose lives are riddled with scandals of various kinds, reside in the San Francisco area. One son, James, is a relatively successful businessman in Washington state; he expects to inherit a bundle of dough at some not-too-distant point. And he is the central player in this book.
Speaking of players, James is an active participant when it comes to romance. As the book begins, he's trying to divest himself of current girlfriend Megan - sister of Rebecca, with whom he (gasp!) had a prior fling. Megan has learned that she's being cast off for Sophia, another young beauty, and she's none too happy. But suddenly, Megan goes missing - and James wakes up in the hospital with fairly serious injuries but no recollection of how he got them. Even when he gets a visit from Sophia, he doesn't remember who she is (or so he claims).
Detective Brett Rivers and his partner, Wynona Mendoza, are charged with solving the case and finding the still-missing Megan. The only sure thing at this point is that they aren't convinced that James isn't faking his memory loss. Megan's sister Rebecca breezes in from her Seattle home - Megan was on her way there when she and her car disappeared - and she's determined to find her sister with or without help from the detectives.
The chase goes on - and on - and it takes several tantalizing directions before the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, is revealed. All told, it's an action-packed adventure that kept my mind off political rhetoric for a wonderful half-dozen hours or so. Many thanks to the publisher, via NetGalley, for providing me with an advance copy to read and review.
Scandal, Suspense and a Twisted Mystery!!
James Cahill is a man ho plain and simple. I really love this author but sometimes there are so many characters it’s confusing. Lots of cray cray obsessive woman.
There is always a creepy atmosphere that keeps you on edge in every book. The second half of the fly’s by it’s so good.
I really like Detective Rivers and his ability to touch items of the victims and here there thoughts. This is something new for this author and I love it.
So Megan had planned to disappear, at least in those moments when he’d caught a glimpse into her head. Not exactly reliable information, though—gained from a vision while holding a discarded bit of jewelry.
What a suspenseful twist of events going on in Lisa Jackson’s novel “You Betrayed Me.”
I found this to be a good psychological thriller.
There is so much going on and you get pulled into the story right away. Sometimes i did feel a bit of confusion though it does gets your attention, but, also has you wondering what the heck is going on????
Overall, I enjoyed the story but it really didn’t keep my attention throughout the book. It was more like parts of it were very intriguing and then parts of it made me feel let down.
The ending is certainly enticing. You must read to the end to find out.
Lisa Jackson is a terrific author and I enjoy reading her books.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read and give my honest review about this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
A lot of romantic drama and a rich philanderer who is a target. I liked the detectives but didn't care for any of the other characters. I won't give away one of the plot twists but it felt very soap opera-like.
Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Whew! Reading this book, I felt like I was sixteen again watching my favorite soap operas; All My Children and General Hospital. There were many characters to keep track of in this story, and most of them are running around doing crazy things like sneaking into hospitals and crawling through doggy doors. Women perpetrated most of the craziness trying to get the attention of rich, handsome James Cahill, who starts new relationships before ending the old ones. It seems this makes women lose their minds. Imagine that.
The basis of the story is that James wakes up in the hospital, having hit his head after an argument with his girlfriend, Megan after she found out about his new paramour Sophia. Now Megan is missing, and he is a suspect. James doesn’t remember what happened, and everyone, including the police, wants answers. Sophia is quickly moving in on him, Megan’s sister Rebecca shows up, and it seems he used to have a thing with her as well. Are you still with me?
Murdered women start popping up, and there is also a mystery woman locked in a cabin by someone she knows, but we don’t find out who until the end. I was confused up until the very end as to what was going on, so points for that. You Betrayed Me was not my favorite Lisa Jackson book to date, but it was enjoyable. Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for the opportunity to read it. I gave it three and one-half stars rounded down to three.
A lot of drama for those of you who love it. I was caught up in the suspense and unpredictable dramatic people. It is true people will do anything to get their hands on a fortune. The Cahill fortune is no exception. There are a lot of scandalous women trying to get in on James Cahill turning rich bad boy. When he is found unconscious and wakes up in the hospital all he can remember is he was cheating on his girlfriend Megan and the one he was caught cheating with shows up at the hospital. The police and Megan’s sister want him prosecuted, but he can’t remember.
Sounds like a series Dallas and Knots Landing combined. The scenes shift to a woman locked in a room...secrets revealed and betrayal at every turn.
Enjoyable read! Thank you NetGalley for my advanced copy!
This was such a great mystery of who did it. I love how Lisa Jackson was able to pull the reader along for so long and throw so many curve balls at us. It kept me guessing throughout the book for sure and wondering how it was all going to end for everyone.
There are several characters in this book, but they were not hard to keep track of once you got it all figured out in your head. In the very beginning we get a glimpse of someone that is being held captive and trying to find a way to overcome her captor so that she can escape. We then in the next chapter get to meet James Cahill that is in the hospital and can't really remember what happened to put him there. Once his mind clears up though he remembers that he had a fight with his then girlfriend because she had caught him cheating on her which was no surprise for James. James had cheated on Rebecca, Megan's sister with none other than Megan herself. What made her think that he would be faithful to her?
Megan, James's current girlfriend is missing when he wakes up though and he comes to realize that everyone thinks that he is the reason why she is missing. When James starts to get his memory back slowly, he pieces together the fight that they had and knows that he did not do anything to hurt Megan at all. Where is Megan though and who is responsible for her missing? Rebecca comes to James and wants answers for where her sister is and they try and put aside their differences to find Megan.
Time goes on and nothing is heard from Megan nor her captor. James and Rebecca are beside themselves trying to figure it all out. The girl that James had cheated on Megan with, Sophia begins to cause problems for James as well. She wants all his attention and James is just not sure which way he is wanting to go now after the disappearance of Megan. James sure has a lot of thinking to do.
Will Megan be found? Will the woman in the woods get her freedom and revenge? What will end up happening to James? These are all questions that you will find out as you read this book. I was entertained until the very end and thought that the writing was very well done. I can't wait to read more from Lisa Jackson!
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book.
How do you prove that you are innocent? James doesn't remember what happened the night that he landed in hospital but everyone thinks that he did something to his girlfriend Megan as she is missing. James knows that he isn't a saint but he would never attack a woman and everything is all confusing as he has only started to remember some of the night and it doesn't like good. Now that Rebecca is in town looking for her sister things have just become even more complicated as James loved her once but he fell into the trap that Megan set. Rebecca doesn't want to be here but she needs to find her sister Megan. And she thinks that James did something to her but there is no proof either than him being a cheat. No surprise there as he cheats on everyone but can she trust James to help her find her sister? James doesn't know which way to turn as he still has Sophia to get rid of but he doesn't realise that she isn't going anywhere and when finds out the messed up truth about everything he will count himself lucky. Will they find Megan? Is there any hope for James & Rebecca or has that ship sailed?
A good read. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.
The Cahills of San Francisco are famous for two things: their vast wealth, and the scandals that surround them. Murder, greed, deadly ambition . . . some people will do anything to get, and keep, the Cahills' kind of money.
This book felt like a mystery/romance.
I enjoyed the book
The beginning wad s bit slow for me, but quickly picked up.
I like the characters they really stick out. The plot was great!
The writing amazing!
Thanks NetGalley publisher and author for this great copy!
Another heart pounding thriller by Lisa Jackson not to miss. The story is a perfect blend of drama, suspense and mystery.
The ending literally gave me chills, I’m looking forward to a sequel or series! A solid 4 star read!
This latest mystery by Lisa Jackson reminded me of a very large puzzle that you think some of the pieces will never fit together. But then surprisingly, everything fits in the end. When a young woman goes missing, the police want to blame the boyfriend. However, the same night she disappeared, he was injured and slipped into a coma. But was the injury self inflicted as an alibi or was there an accomplice? Is she even missing? The detectives have more questions than answers as the victims start to multiply. All in al, an intriguing mystery with a surprise twist at the end. I really want to see what will come of the twist in the future! These two detectives actually remind me of the Alvarez and Pescoli books and so I'm hoping that maybe this is the first in a potential new series featuring them as well.
I love Lisa Jackson books, and always read everything she writes. I love that she uses the Pacific Northwest for her back drop, as I live here and the places are familiar. This wasn't one of her books that made me read it in one setting, but it still has a lot of suspense and twists and turns. I liked the detectives Rivers, and Mendoza, but didn't enjoy the characters very much. All in all, a solid mystery, but not my fave.
