Witch Hunt by Cate Conte is the first in a new witch cozy mystery series and was both an engaging read and an informative read for anyone who wants to learn more about crystals and minerals.

The smoothly paced plot, an unknown magical background for Violet, twists and turns and plenty of suspects who disliked the victim kept me turning the pages. Violet's mother and sister provided some quirky and lighthearted moments as they tried to adjust to Violet's human world. All in all, I found this to be a fun and appealing cozy mystery.

This was a fun new start to a new series. I have read the author's other series, so I was interested in seeing what this one offered. It is more of a paranormal slant with a focus on witches. Violet just finds out that she is a witch while trying to figure out who killed the nasty woman in town--a woman that Violet had an argument with prior to her death. Violet is understandably confused by the news about her background, her long-lost mother and new found abilities. I found some of the witch details to be a bit complex, especially for a first book. The killer wasn't hard to figure out, but sad. All in all, I will be on the look out for the next book in this series. It has great potential.

A fun start to a new cozy mystery series, with a focus on witches. Violet owns a crystal shop, and does readings on auras and things to help people get the right therapy. When a councilwoman is found dead, the police look at Violet because of a big public fight they had. When her mother and younger sister pop in, she is forced to learn her history of magic. Overall a good book, and although there are a few loose ends, hopefully will be revealed in future books. Would recommend.

Violet Mooney runs a crystal shop in her hometown of North Harbor, Connecticut. Recently having lost her Grandmother, the last family she had, Violet is making her way in the world. Things are going well for her until she is wakened from a nap by the police knocking on her door, questioning her about a murder that her lost scarf seems to be connected to.

When Violet is done at the station, she’s met by her mother and sister…or so they say. There is so much Violet doesn’t know about those closest to her. From finding that her father kept her Mother was kept from her for 27 years to realizing that one of her local friends or acquaintances is a murderer. Even more shocking is learning that her parents and grandmother were witches, and she too is a witch and has much to learn about her abilities…if she can find the killer and avoid being sent to the slammer for a murder she didn’t commit.

A strong start to a bewitching new series! I enjoyed reading this fast paced story and can’t wait for the next entry in the series!

I was thrilled to see Netgalley offer a new first book in a new series by an author I enjoy, Cate Conte. This was such a fun read! A paranormal cozy sprinkled with interesting characters, a well-developed storyline and interesting knowledge about crystals. I must admit that I am new to crystals themselves, but I'm interested and found that the author was very informative in her descriptions. I look forward to reading more about this town and learning more about Violet, her mother Fiona and sister Zoe. Definitely a bewitching start to a new series.

I would like to thank Cate Conte, Kensington Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

With the Coronavirus pandemic underway, I was in the mood for something fun. Fun is what I got when I picked up, Witch Hunt, by Cate Conte. It describes itself as a first in a spellbinding new series. That really about sums up this book. It’s a spellbinding series because Violet is a witch – a good witch who just happens to be excellent at solving crimes (See! I told you it was fun!). It is also spellbinding because the writing, the characters, the scene and the who-dunnit are fun. You just don’t want to put the book down. It just flows too well! If you love a mystery in a mystery, fun and quirky characters and a touch of paranormal in your cozies, I recommend you pick up a copy of this book.

Strong debut for a new paranormal cozy series! Violet Mooney owns a crystal shop in North Harbor, Connecticut, when a local councilwoman, Carla, publicly attacks her for planning to hold a seance in her store (untrue) and actually calling it a voodoo shop. When Carla turns up strangled with Violet's scarf, Violet has to prove her innocence. The arrival of Violet's long-time missing mother and surprise sister leads her to question her everything she thought she knew and sets her on a path of discovery about her true nature. This book capably sets up the origin story for Violet, the witch, and begins to define the nature of the new magical realm. Now I can't wait to see how this story continues.
