I fell in love with the cover the moment saw it. There is just something about a good sunset. I also wanted to read this one because it was labeled as Christian and I like being able to read something knowing that it doesn't have all those steamy moments.
For the first 80%, I enjoyed the story. Paige was relatable in a lot of ways and it was easy to feel sorry for her and her situation but it was also nice to see her rely on her faith. Jake Summers was also a good character. He was funny, polite, and loyal. He struggled more with his faith especially when something tragic happens in his family but I think we have all been there at some point. It's a nice bit of encouragement for those who may be struggling now.
The last 20% of the book I thought was unnecessary. It was added drama between the characters that felt unrealistic and it made Paige look very selfish and it rubbed me the wrong way. There wasn't anything that Jake was doing wrong but it was like she was trying to find any excuse to leave him because of her past relationship.
Overall, it was a decent read. I definitely would have enjoyed it more without the last bit but at least the first part was worth reading.
I really wanted to like this more than I did, but there wasn’t much to it. A woman finds out her long term boyfriend is cheating on her, so she breaks it off. Then she almost immediately meets someone else and then hey hit it off, but then it’s lots of ups and downs on if they’re going to make a relationship work. I must have not been in the mood for a “he loves me, he love me not” repeat, repeat type of story.
Part of the story was that the main character needed to find herself and not just accommodate the other people in her life. That was addressed, but I never really felt like she got to the point of being able to find happiness with herself.
My attention was held more for the first part of the story than the last half. I really appreciated the main character’s standards. I didn’t feel like the story was preachy at all, but it was refreshing that her standards were mentioned and she held fast to them.
This contemporary romance gave me all the feels! I simply could not put it down because my emotions were so wrapped up in the story.
Paige catches her boyfriend cheating and is struggling with the heartache when she meets Jake, an air force pilot, and the two begin to date. The thing I loved most about this book was how relatable Paige and Jake are. The author isn't telling the story of two perfect people who have a perfect relationship. Their lives are messy and they are dealing with issues of trust, forgiveness, and grief as well as learning how to communicate. Jake's career in the military adds an extra dynamic to their relationship and military families will certainly be able to relate.
As their relationship grows, Jake and Paige struggle and make mistakes and learn together, and that's what makes their relationship so beautiful and real. It's what made me laugh and cry and made my heart ache. It's what makes this not just a good book, but a great one.
This is Christian fiction and though it is not overly done, the characters reference their faith in and reliance on God. Fans of Becky Wade and Rachael Hauck will certainly enjoy this read.
This was Chalon Linton's first contemporary romance and I hope it will not be the last. I eagerly look forward to reading more of her work in this genre!
I received an advance copy from the publisher through Netgalley but my opinions are my own.
Wasn’t what I was expecting. I wasn’t able to connect with the characters or the plot. Felt like it was all over the place. I wanted to love it but just couldn’t
Thank you net galley for the advance reader copy of this novel. I enjoyed this contemporary romance novel. I've read other works by the author but this is my first reading of contemporary romance by her. I appreciated that this novel was clean! Thank you so much for not including sex. I liked paired character but Jake character was my true favorite. This novel storylines built around trust and truth issues that Paige and Jake had to work through. The plot was realistic as were the characters. Well done!
I could not get enough of this book and finished it in one day! I am so sad that it's over as I just want to keep reading all about Paige and Jake. I found the book so relatable as it was filled with all the doubts, insecurities, and trust issues that may arise when starting a new relationship and getting to know someone. This was such an easy read and I can't wait to read more of Chalon's work.
What a fun story! This was a contemporary romance about a teacher who just broke up with her boyfriend and a military pilot. They were really suited for each other and strived for a healthy relationship - which I was grateful for. There were a few scenes where the writing wasn't the same as the rest, which was weird, but it was overall written quite well.
5 Stars
Flying in Love by Chalon Linton is about a mid-twenties woman falling in love with a pilot in the Air Force. In the beginning of the book, we meet Paige, the protagonist, going to her boyfriend’s house to bring him food and to celebrate his promotion. However, Paige sees her boyfriend kissing another woman in the window and flees from the scene.
Without giving spoilers, Paige is a smart and strong female character, and has strong female friends and family that help her during her break-up. In addition to her strong support system, she manages to bump into a handsome Air Force pilot who helps her get over her ex. Paige and Jake’s relationship grows as they get to know each other and experience suffering together.
I loved and appreciated the added element of faith in this love story. This is the first book by Chalon Linton that I have read, and now I want to read more of her novels.
Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for an advanced copy in exchange for a fair review. I truly enjoyed this book, and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
This was a new genre for Linton, who usually works with historical romance, and she did an amazing job. I really liked how you immediately identified with Paige. She starts her journey with an epic fail in her life, one most people can relate to on some scale and then decides how to proceed. She finds she compromised in a lot of areas and you are proud of her for finding out and standing up for herself. I really like how she and Jake build a friendship first and how it is not an Insta love situation. Wonderful book!!
