Della has now been living with her half brother Arlo for three years. He saved her from an abusive relationship in Pennsylvania. Married at seventeen after she found out she was pregnant she had a positive outlook on life. Losing the child to a miscarriage and then being locked away by her husband and also abused her outlook soon was bleak and dim. Her life was dark and she had nowhere to turn.
One day she was saved by a man who said he was her half-brother. She knew of her father’s name from her mother so what he was saying made sense. Her husband was soon arrested on other charges and sentenced where he ended up dying one day in prison when he fell down a flight of stairs.
Feeling like it is time to get back into the living she has decided to start going on some dates. Not wanting to involve her brother who also is the local sheriff, she has asked Tucker who is the local bartender at Lumberjack’s, he owns the place. He helps her with some of the acronyms that are being used to where she finally agrees on a date. Later needing a ride to another town for the date Tucker is the one who takes her and then waits for her across the street. The first date does not go so well. She does find herself liking the time that she spends with Tucker though.
He then agrees to teach her how to drive. It is during this one of these sessions that he agrees to be her wingman, also the attraction he feels for her draws him to kiss her. That kiss and another one, one night after one of her not so good dates has lit a flame of passion inside of her that she finds is only lit when she is around Tucker. Now she must get him to see past his best friends’ sister and the age difference that he keeps putting up. Maybe she will have a better chance by moving out on her own and away from her brother's prying eyes. Also, a trip to a sex shop gives her a new look on life as well. This was a fun book at times with good characters. A good read. Just a little slow at times or I would have given it 5 stars.
Asking for Trouble is the third book in the Credence, Colorado series but can truly be read as a stand-alone. This was a new series and new author for me, and I was amazed by the author’s ability to make the characters' emotions come to life. I could feel the anguish and hope Della had for her future. I like how Della was able to overcome her abusive relationship with her ex-husband with the support of her brother and the townspeople. They drew her in and made her one of them. This was a wonderful, heartfelt romance and I fell in love with all the characters.
The next book in this series, set in Credence, Colorado.
Della has been there for a few years, after her brother rescued her from an abusive relationship. It has taken her a long time to get where she is now, and finally ready to start dating again. She would like it to be Tucker, but he is her brothers best friend. Can she convince him to date her?
A great read, but very emotional at times, especially when Della opens up and shares what has happened to her.
Looking forward to the rest of this series.
A healing, "Della Get's Her Groove Back" romance. Although Asking For Trouble covers some heavier topics than the past Credence books, it is still an excellent read and makes me crave more!
Della Munroe was in an abusive relationship prior to moving to Credence and living with her brother, Arlo, who is also the local sheriff. For the past three years she has been healing, attending therapy, and gaining back her confidence as a woman all under the safety of Credence's residents. Now that she's finally feeling some confidence, and perhaps due somewhat to her tiny crush on the hot bartender, she's ready to try dating. Enlisting said hot bartender's help she joins Tinder and it isn't long before he's her wingman, her date guru, and eventually her sexy time trainer. Not that she's complaining.
Tucker Daniels watched Della come to town a broken woman. He has also watched her bloom over the last three years into a stronger, braver version of herself. When she boldly asks him for help on dating and then tips for things he would love to do to her himself, he knows he's in trouble. Staying by her side seems like the best option, he just never expected to fall so deep.
Della and Tucker's story is a very slow burn, but once it does ignite, hold on to your seat because holy hotness!! Della also teaches us that communication is key in any relationship whether it is with family, friends or between partners. It's a wonderful message to take away from this heartwarming story.
Tropes ahead! This was the perfectly tropey and perfectly done "traumatized little sister of his best friend looking for friends-with-benefits sexual healing fling" story I didn't realize I was looking for. Tucker, and especially Della, completely turned those tropes upside-down and made romance magic.
Still recovering from her abusive marriage, Della yearns to stand on her own two feet which means getting a job, moving out of her sheriff brother's home, and exploring her sexuality. Thanks to her protective brother, all the men in town think she is fragile and damaged. But when Tucker, her brother's best friend, realizes that Della is about to throw herself into the world of Tinder, he starts to see the new independent Della.
Della's exploring her independence was almost as fun as Tucker's helplessly succumbing to her campaign for him to first be her dating wingman, and then her sexual tutor. But neither Della nor Tucker was prepared for their scorching chemistry. Della was a woman on a mission and it was refreshing to find a romance hero trying to put brakes on their sexual relationship. The man was trying to do what he believed was the right thing and she just wanted him to freakin' get on with it. And when Tucker realized that Della was more than her past, he started tumbling head over heels. The student was quickly becoming the teacher.
Della not only turned Tucker inside out but she also turned all the usual tropes on their head. Della found strength in new friends, her new job, her therapist, herself; this was no victim waiting for a savior. And best of all, there was no typical patriarchal scene with an outraged brother challenging the hero. Tucker confessing his feelings to Della's brother Arlo was one of my favorite scenes, mostly because of their friend Drew. Note: it's pretty obvious the author is setting up Arlo and romance writer Winona as sequel bait, but the real hero, imo, is funeral director with four sisters Drew - can we get his story, please?
And, best of all, there's a grand gesture! I'm such a sucker for grand gestures. There's nothing as satisfying as a romance hero who realizes he's been an idiot and needs to go big or go home to get his girl. So happy that Della and Tucker got to ride off into the tropey sunset together.
Della has had a rough life . Her mom died young and her “dad” was strict and old school. After getting pregnant at a young age she’s kinda forced into marriage and that marriage went downhill in a bad way quite quickly. Luckily the big brother she never new about (remember I said “dad”) came to her rescue but she was understandably broken when she arrived to Credence. Tucker is one of her brother’s best friend and privy to some of the gritty details of her life, and while her started out just liking her as a person, wanting her to get better he soon realized his feelings for her have grown. As Della starts the journey of wanting her life back Tucker becomes her wingman, giving her guidance about the dating/ relationship scene, This story is a slow build relationship wise but it was more realistic that way given her demons, making Tucker a true hero. Della and Tucker’s story is a continuation of the town Credence series and while you do not need to read this previous two books ( truly those characters are barely mentioned in this book) you will get a little more insight into their back story and you’ll love to see the hilarious familiar characters reappear. A nice soft and easy romance. 4.5 stars. I received an arc copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley for my honest review.
“Asking for Trouble” by Amy Andrews
Well, I did love the “story”,,, but to be honest there were more sex scenes that I personally prefer. But I did find some chuckles, and a bit of heart-ache and I truly liked the story. Oh, and I think I learned a couple of things, too. I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley with the hope of a review. I do find it a fine line between telling others what I like or not without possibly spoiling the story for them. This is a stand-alone story. That said, I have read another story by this author set in this town and hope to read more stories set in Credence. If you liked the official description. I am pretty sure you will like this story. Happy Reading !!
Asking for Trouble by Amy Andrews is a great, sweet and steamy escape. Della and Tucker were just what I needed right now, and it was the perfect time to lose myself in their story.
After escaping an abusive marriage three years ago, Della recovered in her new home of Credence, Colorado. Her brother Arlo is the police chief and his life long best friend Tucker owns the bar in town. As Della slowly ventured back into social situations, she spent a lot of time hanging out at Tucker’s bar. Tucker is thrilled to help Della, although he keeps reminding himself to ignore his inconvenient attraction to his best friend’s younger sister. But, once Della asks him to help screen her upcoming Tinder dates and then to teacher her to drive, it’s harder to ignore their mutual feelings.
Della and Tucker are very sweet together. Since Tucker knows about her past abuse, he is extremely patient with her, and demands that she expect more from her potential dates. One thing I especially liked about this book, though, is that just because heroine is an abuse victim, it doesn’t mean she’s not allowed to enjoy sex. And, Della has a posse of supportive girl friends that encourage her to embrace her own pleasure. The combination of support from Tucker and her friends make her journey an uplifting one.
Both characters in this book are almost too nice, but given current events right now, nice, sweet characters who deserve good things were just what I needed. Asking for Trouble is the perfect escape right now; taking a virtual trip to Credence, Colorado was the perfect way to “get out” of the house.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Asking for Trouble by Amy Andrews a five-star read that you will want to ask for. This is the third novel in the Credence, Colorado series, but they truly can be read as stand-alone stories as I haven’t read the whole series and didn’t feel like I missed much as this story focuses on Della and Tucker, there are the amazing characters of Credence like Rosemary who will make you smile and chuckle. Della was a great character and her strength shines through, I loved how she had the spark to fight back, it could have been so much easier for her if she picked someone else, but the heart wants what it wants. What I would give to be sat in Jacks having a cocktail right now.
There are times when books draw you in and touch your heart. They make you cry, they make you laugh, they make you think and in the end you wish you could walk into the pages of the story and give the main characters, in this case Della and Tucker, a hug and tell them they were meant to be .
This is such a book. The story centers around Della Munroe and Tucker Daniels. Bella has been in Cadence for three years living with her brother, the town’s sheriff. A brother she knew nothing about, but one that without hesitation, rescued her from a life of abuse and gave her a shelter. Each day she’s doing better and is ready to try and spread her wings.
Tucker is the owner of the local bar and best friend’s with Della’s brother. He’s been attracted to her since early on, when she would come to the bar to bury her sorrows. But the bro creed is not one to be crossed, and he thinks he’s too old for her.
But life has a way of changing one’s destiny and what was to be a learning experience becomes more than that.
Will Della get to be “free” and discover that contrary to her original beliefs, she’s worthy of love ? Will Tucker get over his own doubts?
A story worth your time. Be sure and have your hankies ready.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Entangled. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
So difficult to decide how to categorise this novel.
Della was rescued from an abusive marriage by her half-brother, Credence Colorado's policeman Arlo. She has spent the last three years living in his shadow and having therapy and finally she feels she might be ready to start dating.
Arlo's best friend Tucker owns the local bar, LumberJack's, which is frequently just shortened to Jack's. Over the past few years Della has spent many an evening propping up the bar, initially drinking too many Pina Coladas, one of the few places she felt safe. Lately Della has had some inappropriate feelings about Tuck, a guy eleven years older than her, but that is what has spurred her to explore the idea of dating.
Tucker can't believe Della is brave enough to try dating, but he's horrified that she's using Tinder and seems unable to spot the douchebags. What starts as being her wingman weeding out the jerks turns into teaching her to drive and then acting as a pseudo-chaperone on her Tinder dates. Then after one steamy, drunken kiss Della asks Tucker if he would be her sex and dating guru - just in case anything triggers any bad memories, she trusts Tucker and knows he will take things slowly.
This could have been a best-friend's-little-sister slash dating-guru romance if it wasn't for the edge given by Della's previous history. It is certainly verrrrry different to the two previous books which have been far more Goldie Hawn-esque romantic comedy. Which isn't to say that this doesn't have its funny moments. What with octogenarian sex lives and a visit to a sex shop there are definitely some signature Amy Andrews laugh-out-loud moments, but they act as light-relief to the slow-burn of Della's sex-life.
I really liked this, a broken but plucky heroine and a gruff but tender-hearted hero having secret liaisons and sex lessons and falling in love. My only criticism? I want Arlo and the erotic novelist's romance and I want it now!
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Everyone thinks that Della needs to slowly get back out there after the way her ex treated her. The problem is, she took their advice. This book is paying for that decision. It is a very slow pace book. A third of the way I started quickly skimming through it. Sorry I just couldn't take it anymore.
Asking for Trouble is a delightful romp filled with naughty innuendo, sexy descriptions, flirty situations, steam, and humor as two people so obviously meant for each other keep trying to ignore the attraction...at least one of them does. Amy Andrews’ books always provide reading pleasure, interesting plot lines, and defined characters. Add in the belly laughs this book generated and you have a winning combination. Read the description and read the book, but only if you are over 18! It definitely is HOT! I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.
