I loved the characters - they felt as real as (some of) my actual friends. The balance of virtue and flaw within each character gave me food for thought.
The premise - 3 women with secrets living in the same complex, and a body in the basement - was interesting enough to make me pick up the book and want to keep reading.
This is a good, slow-paced, character-driven read.
Three very different women live at a small apartment building on Mockingbird Lane.
Sylvia Webb is a single woman trying to find Mr. Right. She thinks she has found him, until she realizes he is liar. Then she decides to get revenge.
Riki McFarlan is a school teacher who loves her school kids, but not their parents, who are constantly giving her grief. She has a boyfriend but for some reason can't stop thinking about her neighbor, Brandon Taylor, who is an aspiring actor and is married with kids.
Embry and Brandon Taylor are happily married with two beautiful children. Brandon is not having any luck with his career and is getting frustrated. Embry has just found out something that she is afraid will make the stress in their worse and so she decides to keep it a secret.
When the owner of the property dies, her son enters the picture and tries to sell the property. Chaos ensues as the tenants in the building try to keep it from happening.
This was a very well written story and kept my attention throughout. Highly recommend!
This book focuses on 3 women living in a complex like (like they are neighbor) Sylvia Em and Riki. They all dealing with life and their own secrets when a dead body ends up rocking their lives. It was such a slow paced mystery but still amazing. I loved Sylvia's story as she was such a likeable character in her own way.. Thanks to the publisher for my ARC.
First, let me say that though this book was marketed as a thriller, it wasn't. There was nothing about this book that said thriller. It was full of unlikeable, hokey characters and honestly, I couldn't wait for the book to be over. The only semi-normal woman was Embry but even that got tired, like why don't you just tell your freaking husband you're pregnant already?! Sylvia was annoying and Riki was downright childish, making starry eyes at every guy that was nice to her and pining away for her friend's husband. Each of them lamenting over men, focusing all their energies on the men in their lives whether they be good or bad guys and it definitely got a bit tiresome as there didn't seem to be anything else of substance in the book. It was kind of reminiscent of Melrose Place but much, much worse with less appealing characters.
Lie, Lie Again was a great read (seriously I devoured it in a single sitting). This book starts out with a bang, literally a dead body in a hallway. I had initially picked this out because I thought it would be a fast paced thriller, but I found the thriller aspect to be the least interesting part. I stuck around for the character work. Embry, Sylvia and Riki were fascinating characters and I really look forward to Stacy Wise's next book!
I was quite intrigued by the blurb and I knew I wanted to read it. I was not disappointed. The characters are well developed in this novel. The storyline is very gripping and the suspense is built slowly. There is a heaviness or darkness that the book carries. I loved the pink cover too. I expected a lot more from the ending but I won't say I was disappointed. It was a happy ending. The author has a lot of potential and I want to read more from here. I definitely recommend this to mystery lovers.
I felt so tense throughout the entirety of this book. I was so on edge and I had no idea what was coming next. I enjoyed this so much and can't wait to see more from Stacy Wise.
Thank you Netgalley for providing an arc of this book for an honest review.
I was really hoping for a great suspenseful thriller. Secrets in the apartment complex, three women’s lives coming together to form a story. But it just wasn’t thrilling for me. It was slow paced and the ending “twist” wasn’t very surprising. I didn’t hate it, but it was just too light of a thriller for me to enjoy.
This one was just an average read unfortunately.
The blurb was a little misleading and wasn't that page turner I thought it was going to be.
I could of easily given up but forced myself to finish.

📚 DESCRIPTION 📚
For three women with so much to hide, there's no such thing as a little white lie...
All three women who live at 1054 Mockingbird Lane have secrets...and with a body at the bottom of their apartment building's staircase, those secrets need to stay buried.
Sylvia Webb has a plan. And a potential Mr. Right. He's sweet, simple, and dependably clueless about what she's up to. The only thing unpredictable about him is his needy ex-girlfriend, who is this close to shattering Sylvia's dreams. But Sylvia's not going to let that happen.
Riki McFarlan has a good career and an amazing boyfriend who wants to settle down. If only she didn't have feelings for her neighbor--who happens to be her close friend's husband. With everything going so right, why is Riki flirting with something so wrong, so...dangerous?
Embry Taylor is as devoted to her children as she is to her husband, who's a bartender by night, an aspiring actor by day. She is his biggest fan. But with his career not taking off and tensions high, even sweet Embry has something she's desperate to keep hidden.
Lies, secrets, and revenge. For three neighbors with stakes so high, someone is headed for a downfall.

"Lie, Lie Again" starts off with a bang: a body found splayed facedown on the asphalt outside of the apartment complex on Mockingbird Lane. Three women are gathered nearby, looking at the scene, and the book is told from their alternating point-of-views. Sylvia, the woman who thinks she's finally found the one and upon learning he's deceived her, sets off to dark measures to obtain her revenge. There's sweet stay-at-home Embry, who has two young children and is married to Brandon, a bartender trying to make it as an actor and failing. Brandon plays double-duty and is the the object of his wife's affections AND their neighbor's, Riki. Riki is a 2nd grade teacher at a private school, where most of the parents make her life miserable. Each of the women have secrets they wouldn't want seeing the light of day. At the same time everything is happening, their apartment complex has suddenly come up for sale after the death of their landlord so we get to read another point-of-view from Jonathan, the dead landlord's son.
I'd originally picked this book up a few weeks ago and ended up putting it down, figuring I'd return to it later. I'm not sure why I finished this book on the second go-around. There's a slow burn book and then just slow, and unfortunately, this book is the latter. As many of you know, I'm not a fan of books marketed as thrillers and then it turns out they're not. That was the case here. I thought the writer did a good job of trying to tell the story but these women were unappealing and truthfully, annoying and sometimes committed implausible actions. Like, grow up. These women were not friends and their interactions felt forced.
Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for allowing me to access this early release. 3.5/5 stars. The story tells the intertwining lives of three different women who live in the same housing complex. When their landlord dies and her greedy son returns to sell the complex, these women band together to help prevent that from happening. One person winds up dead at the bottom of the stair case and the reader takes a long journey to discover who and how. I really enjoyed this read, it was light and each woman had a different struggle that any reader can connect with. This was a very enjoyable, light hearted read!
Slow, misleading, and a little ridiculous. I wasn’t a big fan of this book. Riki annoyed me for most of it, Sylvia seems like a sociopath, and Embry was a stereotype. The dialogue was odd. I finished, but I just couldn’t get into this one.
I loved this book! I thought it was so good. The writing was great and I did not see the twist coming! The author hit it out of the park with this one. Thank you to netgalley for the ARC!
Lie, Lie Again follows three women who all live in an apartment complex called 1054 Mockingbird Lane. Each woman - Sylvia, Riki & Embry - all have issues & secrets that they would like to keep to themselves, and when the recently passed owners' son decides he wants to sell the building, the three ladies realise they need to work together to stop it.
This book throws you straight into the deep end with a 'partical reveal' in the first page. Then, the story flashes back and we start to learn about each woman.
Slyvia is a hotshot marketing guru who has managed to find herself a wonderful man that she is starting to plan the future with - unfortunately for her, he's not who he says he is.
Riki is a teacher at a private school, who is struggling to deal with the pushy parents, a boyfriend she's not sure she wants to be with, and a crush on her neighbours husband.
Embry is the wife of Brandon & mother to 2 little children. With Brandon being a struggling to get an acting job, Embry discovers she's pregnant with baby number 3 at the worst time.
I really liked this book, the chapters flown incredibly well & everything seemed to interlink quite smoothly. It was an 'easy read' and something I finished in a day, which is what I like about a book! The writing style is simple but effective, and you really got to know the 3 women. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it & would recommend to anyone!
Intriguing story of three women living in the same apartment complex. These three women are all friends and all have their own secrets and lies they are living with. Complex story of friendship, betrayal, and making the best of the situation you are in. While some of the women have more serious problems than the others, they all have their own stories. Quick interesting story.
Lie, Lie Again is about three women who all live in a small apartment complex in LA. Embry is a mother of two with a husband trying to make it in the acting world. Rikki is a second grade teacher at a private school looking for someone to settle down with. Sylvia is in marketing and has met a man she has really grown to like. All of these women are keeping secrets that they don't want getting out.
The first half of Lie, Lie Again I wasn't feeling very much. I enjoyed reading about the characters and learning about them but felt that it went on for too long. The second half of the book really turned my mind around, I liked that all the story lines were nicely wrapped up and got the closure needed to end the book. Lie, Lie Again kind of reminded me of Big Little Lies with how the story builds up to something big at the end. While reading you get to hear all of the characters point of view on the things that are happening in their lives.
Thank you to Netgalley, Stacy Wise and Lake Union Publishing for this E-Arc in exchange for an honest review.
I love the character building in this novel. I was expecting more of a fast paced thriller, but was surprised when it was more of a slow burn. The twist wasn’t that surprising to me, but the story was engaging enough to keep me interested.
4 stars
The premise of this novel is unique. 3 women find a body in their apartment while simultaneously engulfed in their own secrets. You’ll have to read it to believe it... trust me you’ll want to.
Lie, Lie Again by Stacy Wise is a page-turning thriller! This book will keep you reading--don't start it if you were planning on going to sleep any time soon!
