Very interesting read . Good storyline following these characters. The book was well written and flowed well. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was hard to put down once you go started
The premise and the beginning of this book gave of some Big Little Lies vibes which got me very intrigued. However it fell flat for me as I found all the characters pretty one dimensional and uninteresting. I didn't connect to anyone and some characters were very irritating and not exactly believable (Sylvia). I do think this novel will find its audience but that sadly isn't me.
Oh... Is that it?
While I loved reading Lie, Lie Again (the writing is fab), I've come away feeling a bit deflated. Maybe it's my own fault: I was expecting something along the mystery/thriller genre, but this was most definitely missing the thrill.
When the book was wrapping up in the last few chapters, I kept waiting for the twist, the ah moment. But alas, nothing but an unnecessarily long ending.
Lie, Lie Again is a dramatic story revolving around three women, Sylvia, Embry, and Riki. Sylvia is a successful woman in her late thirties who is longing to have a baby of her own, much like twenty-five year old Embry, who has two children and a third one (which she is hiding from her husband) on the way. Riki is harboring very strong feelings for Embry’s husband, Brandon. Each one has her own secrets that are threatening to undo their lives.
I just want to say that I am absolutely in love with this cover. Everything about it screams drama and revenge. I love it.
This book was such a slow-burn for me. The plot continued to build and build until everything came crashing down (in a good way) at the very end with the climax of the story. I really enjoyed the ending of the book, but I did find myself struggling to continue along about halfway though. I knew it was all building up to something, however, and I’m so glad I made it to the end.
I was absolutely intrigued by Sylvia, and I would not be opposed in any way to seeing a sequel focusing on her and the new life she wants to build for herself that is mentioned in the last chapter. She has a very distorted personality, but learning more about her was so interesting to me! She was definitely my favorite character from the book.
Unfortunately, I didn’t love this book as much as I hoped I would, but it was still a very enjoyable read. The different POVs were well done, and overall, the plot moved steadily along.
Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the ARC of this book!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book. I'll be posting my review on Goodreads and Amazon
A great read! Really loved the characters ! Enjoyed reading the book ! I couldn't put the book down.
I got through this book really quickly. The story was good, but the ending was kind of blah for me. Would recommend to someone who wants a quick read.
This far exceeded my expectations. First off I loved the characters and they were written in a way that you can see them as your own friends. I loved the slow boil in terms of the build up. A couple of chapters did feel a little stagnant but picked right back up. Very good read!
This book was just kind of okay for me. There were some aspects that I enjoyed, and others not so much.
For the positives, I think this book had a lot of potential. The idea of the story was quite intriguing, and the way the author writes was pretty easy to follow. This is quite important considering this book is told from multiple perspectives, which was actually executed quite well.
For the things that fell flat:
I really did not feel connected to the characters, which is something that is very important to me while reading. Some characters were annoying, while others were just quite boring. I really enjoyed Embry as a character, but she would be the only one. I also thought that some parts of the book dragged, there seemed to be a lot of unnecessary scenes.
Overall, I am rating this book 3/5 stars due to there being both aspects I liked and disliked.
Thank you for the ARC to review!
I love Stacy Wise writings this is one of her slower moving books but it's still good. It's about three girls living in a complex. They were trying to deal with things in their own lives until a dead man washs up into their lives. This slow paced mystery is a great read!
What a juicy soap-opera-ish tale!!! Three women at different stages of those their lives live in the same "complex" - but in my head, its a row of town homes - with no other neighbors evidently lol. Embry is the sweetheart with the handsome Hubs and 2.5 kids, Riki is a school teacher at a private school that is slowly losing her soul due to sucky overbearing hovering over entitled parents (yes I'm a bit bitter about that part lol) fighting her feelings for someone that is totally hands off and then we have Sylvia, who appears to be a woman scorned by a cheater boyfriend but boy-oh-boy - theres a whole lot of crazy stuck in that one lol This story had my attention from page one and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! I've provided an honest review for Lie, Lie Again in exchange for a ARC from Netgalley.
I started this book one afternoon and stayed up to midnight to finish to book because I could't put it down! You know that is a sign of a good book.
Lie, Lie Again tells the story of 3 neighbors Sylvia, Embry, and Riki who all live at 1054 Mockingbird Lane. They all have their secrets that they are hiding. Embry is keeping a secret from her husband, Riki is keeping a secret from Embry, and Sylvia is keeping multiple secrets from everyone she knows and someone is lying to her as well. The book opens up with the three neighbors standing in a semi circle around a dead body. The book then goes on to tell the story of how we got to the body at the bottom of stairs at 1054 Mockingbird Lane. There are twists, turns, and more questions as the book goes on.
Overall, I loved this book and I couldn't put it down. My one complaint about the book is that it opens with a dead body and the dead body doesn't reappear to the end of the book. When I started the book, I thought the dead body would reappear at the middle of the book and then lead of on the adventure of keeping the secret about the dead body but boy I was wrong. Someone else said this book was more like dark women's fiction rather than a mystery or thriller and I would agree with that.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I was looking forward to this one as it had all the elements of a great plot for me but sadly, I don't think it was executed very well. It was an easy read but I didn't enjoy the characters. This missed the mark and I wouldn't say it was a thriller - more of just a dark story.
If you wish you could read the minds of other people, this book would be for you -- because you get to know every thought that passes through these characters' minds. For me, it was overkill. Out of the three main characters, there was only one I could imagine being friends with. Well, her and the dead landlady. The other two women were kind of icky; one of them was actually kind of scary in her sociopathy. The only thing I felt like I could relate to was the angst of the teacher as she dealt with difficult parents. It wasn't a book I'd read again; however, for a reader who really likes drama and romantic tension, this would be a gold mine.
Definitely an easy read! It is the kind of book I reach for only rarely, when I need a break from reality and something quite light to read.
This is the story of 3 women living in the same complex. They all have a bit of a different life and expectations, one is married and a mum, happy in her life but quite insecure and a little bit boring to be honest. The other one is portrayed as a strong indépendant woman, it inside, she wants a stable relationship and kids, and the last one is in a relationship she isn’t really committed to and thinks the grass is greener somewhere else. Added to the mix there is lies and betrayals.
I think some people would definitely enjoy this book, it’s gossipy, light and intriguing. But personally, I think that all of the characters were dull and weak. The story had many coincidences that were just too forced and not really probable. The story and build up of characters is quite slow. I do think that Stacy Wise does a good job of telling the story, it is clear and well written.
Thank you NetGalley for letting me read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
This had the potential to be more of a thrilling story than it was, especially after such a good premise. The story centers around 3 women in an apartment complex each with secrets that don't want others to know, but they stumble upon a dead body and each cope differently with how to handle it. I will let other readers decide for themselves but I only liked one of the three ladies.
About the story. There is so much background information and explaining who they are that there isn't much to the actual story until like 2/3 in and the twist was predictable. Predictable is never good. This is a shame because I enjoyed a few of the novels previously written by this author. Just an average read for me.

This book description really intrigued me right away & the early reviews were generally pretty good - so I was excited for this thriller... Unfortunately, I ended up being quite underwhelmed.
This book was just... okay. Entertaining, sure - but nothing special. It’s an easy, fun, fast read though!
Thank you nonetheless to Lake Union Publishing for the e-ARC.
Lie, Lie Again follows the lives of three neighbours living in LA as they navigate their individual lives that inadvertently overlap - each woman dealing with her own life and internal conflicts. Overall I liked reading this book, but I was left questioning at multiple times what the actual premise was? The blurb and the opening chapter highly hints that the book revolves around a dead body at the bottom of the apartment stairs. Instead I felt as though the book focused on the trials and tribulations of the balances and sacrifices that women face today in regards to families and careers. And it was almost as thought the death was a subplot that was only merely hinted at throughout the book and then glazed over near the end. It was though, these interesting characters that kept me reading the book as opposed to the supposed mysterious death, I was invested in the characters lives and wanted to see what happened to them. Overall, this book is interesting, but I'm not sure if its the first that would come to mind when recommending a thriller or mystery.
This seemed like such an intriguing book, but unfortunately it disappointed me. I felt that it was too much of a slow burn to have the desired effect.
I didn't really like any of the characters which made it hard to stay interested.
Unfortunately this one wasn't for me.
This book follows 3 women (Riki, Embry & Sylvia) who all live in the same complex. The three of them live separate lives but are weaved together & connected by various circumstances. Sometimes the plot line lagged but it was a decent book; it felt at times like I was reading the script of a daytime soap opera. Comes out November 2020. Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the ARC.
