A good book about using fewer ingredients and still making the food tasty and favorable in using less which makes it easier for meal prep. Overall a good book.
I appreciated this book because it made me realize that it would not take me that long to make certain things I have been purchasing from the store.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I may buy this book for my own collection because there are so many recipes that I want to make.
This cookbook had some really great recipes. The recipes were easy to understand and not too complicated for the average cook. I enjoyed the illustrations and look forward to making these recipes for years to come.
sure is easy this way with using only 5 ingredients, although in many cases I would spice them up a bit. For the busy pandemic confined this should help tear them away from Zoom to get some nourishment!
Minimal ingredients with easy to follow instructions for 30 minute meals is appealing to most busy people nowadays, and there are plenty of good ideas for quick meals in Quick and Easy 5-Ingredient Cookbook: 30-Minute Recipes to Get Started in the Kitchen by food blogger, Eileen Kelly. One of the things that gives this cookbook an edge is that Kelly includes “master recipes” that cooks can use to add their own touches to, which is nice for beginning cooks who want to expand their repertoire by using their imagination; incidentally, those master recipes are great for experienced cooks, too. New ideas are always welcome, and this cookbook has some good ones. Kelly has added a few vegan and vegetarian dishes, which is nice if cooks are so inclined – I generally skip those chapters, but the dishes in this book actually sound good and may make it into my queue.
Kelly includes some good basic salad dressings, sauces, and homemade seasoning mixes, which is helpful, especially since those items can usually be made ahead and will be waiting for cooks to use them in the easy recipes. The recipes are succinct and easy-to-follow. The emphasis is on quick and easy in this cookbook, and Kelly‘s recipes deliver. The recipes are perfect for weeknights since they are all made in 30 minutes or less with about 5 ingredients.
New favorites from this cookbook include: Balsamic and Honey Glazed Salmon, Sheet Pan Sirloin Steak, Mushrooms, and Broccoli, Southern Shrimp and Grits, Warm Apple Foldovers, and Lemony Lentil Salad – all quick and easy, and all very good.
The one drawback is that there are only a few photographs; most cooks agree that photos are a must in a good cookbook, and this one doesn’t have enough. The lack of photos isn’t a lose-lose situation, and the cookbook is good in spite of this flaw.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
I love recipes that are quick and easy. This book is filled with recipes like that. They all use ingredients that we probably have in our pantry or fridge already, and they only take a few ingredients to make.
I’ve only tried two recipe so far, but as I was going through the book, I saw many that I want to try. Few ingredients and 30 or less minutes. I love this cookbook! It will be one I go to over and over. The menus suggest interesting flavor pairings that i wouldn't have thought of myself, enough courses and side dishes to round out nutrition and keep both the cook's and the diners' interest, and very filling but healthful-sized portions and don't require advanced technique or too much more than an hour for complete start-to-finish prep.
Many of the recipes are very simple, with only a few ingredients, which makes it easier to put together a beautiful meal without spending all day in the kitchen. It also lists the order in which to prep and cook the meal, which is so helpful because I usually have to try and figure it out on my own.
If you like few ingredients, quick and easy, check this cookbook out.
I usually don't mind cooking with a lot of ingredients but sometimes it is fun to do things a bit simpler. The Quick and Easy 5-Ingredient Cookbook is the perfect cookbook to have for this reason.
The recipes are for 30 minutes and you can have dinner in a flash!
In the book you have:
Chapter 1 where there are tips and you learn how to use the book.
Chapter 2 has Breakfasts, Oatmeal with variations, Maple Turkey Breakfast Patties, Breakfast Muffins, and Sheet Pan French Toast.
Chapter 3 is Soups and Salads, my favorite section. I love soups and I have Mom's Homemade Tomato Soup bookmarked.
Chapter 4 is the section for Vegan and Vegetarian Main dishes
Chapter 5 is Poultry and Seafood, I like the poultry section as I am not such a fan of fish although the Foil Packet Fish Fillets and Tomatoes look good.
Chapter 6 is Beef and Pork
Chapter 7 is Snacks and Sides. A good variety here from Guacamole to Roasted Lemon Asparagus
Chapter 8 Deserts. My other favorite section, The Mini Cheesecakes will definitely be getting made in this house.
Lastly, Chapter 9 is the section for Spice Blends, Sauces, and Dressings. A very important chapter.
So looking through this book, I found a lot of recipes that I will definitely be trying. Simple, only 5 ingredients and that is what makes the book perfect!
I am always on the hunt for the next best cookbook but this one is maybe too simple and maybe that is because its 5 ingredients in 30 minutes. I was not in love with the book and it doesnt read too well on a kindle (this could be because it was an advance copy so there is no bad marks for it) It is simple food. I think if your family of 4 eats simply this book will score higher for you. I want to make something that wows your mouth and this just didnt help with that.
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the chance to read and review, "Quick and Easy 5-Ingredient Cookbook"
by Eileen Kelly. This is a great cookbook for someone with a busy lifestyle or someone trying to use a small amount of ingredients in a recipe. The cookbook was easy to read and understand. Having pictures of the food would have been a nice touch.
What a great concept for a cookbook! Quick and easy with few ingredients is just what many of us want at times. I never would have guessed that there could be so many recipes that fit this framework.
The book includes all meals and even has sections on vegetarian and vegan foods and a section on spice blends. I could name so many of these good looking recipes but will just select enough to show what a good resource this book is. So...smoky chickpeas and spinach, coconut tofu and vegetable curry over rice, balsamic and honey glazed salmon, pan seared pork chops and parmesan spinach, warm apple foldovers and chocolate chip cookies.
This is a perfect book for a beginning cook (there are many at this moment) or a more experienced cook looking for some new ideas. I will be using it for sure.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.

I have made several recipes from this cookbook so far, and they have all turned out fantastic! The are easy and simple to follow with easy to obtain ingredients. Perfect for beginner cooks and for seasoned home-chefs. I highly recommend this book and will be purchasing it for my daughters! Thank you to the publisher for a free ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I truly enjoyed the various re iped that were shared in this book. It was not only great that all recipes contained no more than 5 ingredients, but they were all very realistic makes for all levels of cooks! One doean5 have to be an expert to cook using it!
I thought the book was well done. I thought the Author did an excellent job providing a diverse range of options from meats to meatless, as well as appetizers and desserts. I found the recipes to be easy follow with basic ingredients-nothing complicated. i thought the 'variations' were an excellent way to offer even more diverse options.
Thank you Rockridge Press & NetGalley the opportunity to review this delightful book.

I love the fact that this book has 5 or less ingredient recipes. Good for last minute meals. Fairly good recipes, easy step by step instructions and tips. I like this book a lot!
Simple recipes, maybe a bit too simple. Nothing I hadn't heard of before.
Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for free,it had no bearing on the rating I gave it.
Quick and Easy 5-Ingredient Cookbook is a tutorial cookbook and recipe collection aimed at easy, fast, and good food without lots of ingredients. The recipes included can be prepared in 30 minutes or less with 5 main ingredients (not including seasonings, water, oil, cooking spray, etc). Due out 14th April 2020 from Callisto on their Rockridge Press imprint, it's 108 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats (ebook available now). It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.
The introduction includes a very good overview over basic kitchen equipment and ingredients. There's also a subchapter with food safety and handling information.
The recipes have their ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. Measurements are given in US standard only. Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. Most of the ingredients are easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store. Nutritional information is included in the footer at the end of the recipes and includes calories, fat, sodium, carbs, fibre, sugar, protein.Tips and variations on each recipe are included in a text box at the end. Special dietary comments (dairy-free, freezer friendly, gluten-free, nut free, etc).
The book also includes a short author bio, and a metric conversion chart, but lacks any index or general ingredients index.
My main quibble with the book is that the recipes are mostly not photographed. There are some photos, and they're clear and attractive, but they only represent about 5% of the recipes included in the book. It is, however, a very well written book for anyone who needs
Four stars. This would make a superlative selection for busy cooks or a housewarming gift for a newly-fledged first apartment dweller.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This is a must have for people who love to make large batches of food with different variations. Very few cookbooks give you as many variations on recipes as what this author does. One of my biggest complaints about recipe books is very few variations and this author goes above and beyond with it. Biggest key I got from this book was freeze what you don’t use! This is a must for some easy meal prep since all you need to do is go to the freezer and reheat.
What did I like? Variations....some of the recipes have multiple. This is a great thing since you can make a batch of meat and have four or five different variations. It’s never the same meal twice. There are so many tidbits in this book it’s insane. From freezing to making your own spices. Just loved it. The author also has a food blog so you can follow her online, which I thought was amazing.
Would I recommend or buy? Yes, I just love cookbooks and you can never have enough. This was such a good read. I loved all the tidbits and variations even though many of the recipes were regular kitchen recipes like omelets.
Thoughts for the author? Thanks so much to the publisher for an ARC to peak at and this review is just my opinion. I really enjoyed your cookbook so I’m definitely going to subscribe to your blog. Five star cookbook! Thanks.
