I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Great book for those who want to know exactly how something works and for the visual learner.
Has covid left you inside for too long? Do you feel that you want/need to do something that is a bit more physical? If yes, this book could be a good resource. It presents workouts that can be done at home and at varying levels of intensity. If you stick with it, you should gain in strength and endurance. Good luck!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.
I am just starting out on my calisthenics journey as I wanted to be able to workout anywhere, anytime with little to no equipment needed and calisthenics seemed the obvious option.
This book covers everything in great detail. Yes I’m not going to be using all of them right away but it lays a good foundation of knowledge and puts you on the right path to be successful, fit and knowledgeable with calisthenics.
I found this to be a good no nonsense read on body weight training overall. Good ideas for workouts and progressing the complexity and difficulty of training. This book gives you all the tools to create your own routine for Calisthenics training, exercises, progressions, variations, stretching exercise and information on which you can build your own training plan, according your goals and physical state.
Body weight training has always been of interest to me since you carry the weight so why not exercise with it? Some of the exercises are hard and will take time to progress through. I have a long way to go if I want to be able to complete these exercises! The important thing is to start, be patient, be consistent, and persevere.
I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn more or take up calisthenics.
great stretching exercises that I can do in the comfort of my home without feeling embarrassed like i would in a gym. I can't do many yet, but working my way through the book I am getting more confident!
I’m always looking for books on fitness to spice up my routines, unfortunately this one was similar to several I’ve read recently. The workouts weren’t anything new for me and the delivery was dry. For a novice this may be a good resource.
This book provides a great overview of calisthenics for those who are just beginning exercising using this method. I was curious about this book since I already do some of these exercises, and wanted to see if this would provide any new ideas for me to incorporate into my very sporadic workouts. Most of them were ones I was either already acquainted with in some form or another, so I didn't really learn that much unfortunately. I did like the structure of the book, providing three "levels" of exercises (levels being a fluid term, some of them, as other readers have said, might seem too easy for a level three, but some level ones might seem too much; it all depends on your current strength levels and abilities!), and how it provided a section detailing cool down and restorative stretches, which is something I really need to focus on. While this wasn't nearly as comprehensive as I'd hoped it would be, it did help to establish that some of the random exercises I already do are actually quite beneficial for me. If you have never contemplated doing any sort of body weight training before, this looks like it'd be a great intro.
