Hmmm, I'm sorry I didn't love this. It seemed like so much talking and so little actual action. It kind of dragged for me and then the ending kind of threw a bunch of things at the wall super quickly. This just wasn't for me!
I was so excited to see that Shari Lapena had written another book. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite suspense-type authors. Loved Loved Loved "The End of Her". So many twists and turns trying to figure out who is lying and who is telling the truth. Really enjoyed how the book ended...so many questions! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy. I cannot wait to recommend this book!
.
This was another solid Shari Lapena domestic thriller. I enjoyed how she was able to create a slow burn while taking a "fatal attraction" like plot and turning it on its head. You will not be disappointed.
Not my favorite Lapena (it would be almost impossible to beat An Unwanted Guest in my book) , but still thoroughly enjoyable!!
I love Shari Lapena’s books but this was probably my least favorite of them all. I didn’t really care for any of the characters and I felt like the twist at the end was very predictable. It did keep me entertained and I love her style of writing.
Stephanie has everything she ever wanted. A good husband & new born twins. But then a stranger turns up from her husband’s past. Now she wonders if she even knows him at all. Like the other 2 Shari Lapena books that I’ve read this book is a page turner that I found it hard to put down. She’s the master of making you think you know what’s going on but then in the next chapter she layers in some new information. I will say the ending happened very quickly leaving me a little disoriented. What just happened? I don’t know if I find that believable. I did enjoy the epilogue that sort of leaves you hanging but in a good way. I still really enjoyed this book. I just wanted a little more from the ending & it’s hard to go into that without giving away too much information.
I've really become a fan of Shari Lapena, and this book further solidifies my opinion on her books. Although I didn't really relate to any of the characters, I loved this book. Was Patrick a killer? Was Stephanie losing her mind? Is Erica a liar? And how will everyone extricate themselves from the sticky webs that Erica has spun?.... all is answered in due time. I enjoyed the pacing of this book, the way things unfolded.... a must read.
Shari Lapena knows her lane and she sticks with it and does it so well. Another very gripping page turner that I read it literally one afternoon/evening without putting it down. I became obsessed with Lapena's work last summer when "Someone We Know" was released and I binged all 4 of her works in a row...and dare I say she's out done herself here....
This story follows her traditional line of domestic problems in a relationship in a suburban family's life...and this one includes murder, sex, lies, a court proceeding, etc All the workings of a very fun gossipy page turner that will be fun to discuss with fellow readers. She had me upset briefly when a big reveal happened around the 80% mark that was SO predictable and not what you wanted to happen, but then the true end just blew me away and I give it 5 stars.
Stephanie believes she has the perfect life, she’a a stay at home mother to two infant twins, married to Patrick, a man she loves and trusts with all her heart. Then Erica shows up on their doorstep claiming that the death of Patrick’s first wife in an auto accident was anything but accidental. Patrick says he’s worried just because her accusations could cause problems for him at work, but when Erica goes to the police and they start investigating, Stephanie begins to wonder if she ever really knew her husband
This was the story of Stephanie, mom of twins, who finds out that her husband has been hiding something from his past from her. A domestic thriller with a good suspense element, that still fell flat for me, Lapena’s strength is usually her characters. I identify with them, thinking they could be my neighbors next door. Not this time around. They were flat and one-dimensional.
Miss Lapena has written another engaging novel full of suspense and drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Stephanie and Patrick have their hands full with his career and their two baby twin girls. One day at work a woman shows up for an interview that Patrick knows from his previous life in Colorado. Erica Vos had an affair with Patrick while he was married to his first wife (who died in a strange accident).. and she is here to make Patrick and Stephanie's life hell. Erica first tries blackmailing Patrick and then begins an affair with Patrick's business partner NIall so she can blackmail him also. There is a lot of suspense as Patrick and Stephanie try to decide what to do about Erica's increasing demands and what the police will do as Erica travels back to Colorado to tell the police she thinks Patrick killed his first wife. The character of Erica is a horrible selfish villain whom you love to hate and the suspicion she puts on Patrick is enough for Stephanie to wonder if her husband is really who he claims to be and not a previous murderer. PLenty of drama and suspense and a satisfying ending.
This thriller was a page turner. I liked the shifting perspectives and being able to see a variety of characters' viewpoints. The plot was fast-paced, with big events happening often enough to keep my interest. In fact, I read this book in one day.
However, the last fourth of the novel was a disappointment. When the truth is revealed, it seems a bit obvious and super sudden; I don't really feel like the first part of the novel laid the groundwork for the revelations made in the last part. Also, the last few chapters revealed a twist that seemed unbelievable to me and inconsistent with what we know about one of the main characters.
