A necessary addition to any crocheter's yarn stash. I consider myself an advanced crocheter and find myself referring to this book more often than I search online for help. Thank you to DK and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a copy of the book.
A great resource for crocheters. This is perfect for beginners and I believe even the most advanced will find good information here. There is a large choice of projects and patterns. The illustrations are excellent.
I like to crochet sometimes in my free time and this book was great for learning new projects. This book would be great for beginners who want to learn more about crocheting. There are chapters on projects, stitches, hooks, and other things. I thought this book was easy to read and understand. I would recommend this book to people starting to crochet.
Excellent resource for both the beginner and more advanced crocheting. I will definitely be buying this book.
An excellent place to start with crochet. It explains all the common and semi-common crochet lengths, even some I haven't had occasion to use before, as well as basics like the magic circle, increasing and decreasing, and a lot more. It introduces different techniques (for example, creating fringe) and then follows that up with a basic pattern that uses it (for example, a fringed scarf). If you want to get started with simple scarves, blankets, pillows, plushies, this is a perfect beginner's book, especially in conjunction with separate video tutorials to get the movement of the stitching techniques down.
DK continues to be one of my go to publishers for books. Their books always include excellent pictures and detailed instructions for go to. As a crocheter, I enjoy looking at books to see how they will help people who are new to the craft and I think DK knocks it out of the park with this one.
This book is a handy reference of beginners and experts alike. Good tips and really nice patters. A nice book to have in your crochet library.
This is a great introduction book for older kids and teens. The patterns aren't necessarily modern, but they are classic enough that there will be something for everyone in here. Great photos and explanations of everything you need to know!
This book does a very thorough job of walking the reader through all the basic crochet stitches that will be needed for each pattern right off the bat. The patterns are clear and concise with excellent pictures. I absolutely can not wait to finish my current crochet project and start on a toddler sweater featured in this book.
This is an excellent crochet book. The instructions are crisp and clear. I like the fonts send the design elements of the book. The type of projects were not for me save for one or two.. The focus seemed to be on children’s clothes and toys which I do not make. As an instructional guide, I think this is a terrific book.
This book was of average quality to me compared to several other crochet books I have read. The first thing to note is that this is a UK book with UK terminology that doesn't translate to US crochet terminology. The book mentions the US terms and measurements at the beginning but all stitches and patterns are in UK terminology.
The good: I loved that the techniques section gave a new technique and then a couple mini projects to practice that technique. It is the first time I have come across that style of book teaching and I really liked it. The pictures here are clear and easy to understand.
The bad )Unfortunately this out weights the good): Important skills like gauge swatching got one paragraph mention but no actual explanation of how to actually do it! The designs were loud in color and felt dates and not attractive, this is my personal opinion and may be because my personal style and preferences are different. This book will age quickly and not become a timeless edition. One of the issues with the patterns I saw was in the materials section did not have a good way for readers to figure out how to substitute yarn if they don't have that exact kind available. DK, worsted, aran were words discussed but not assigned meaning in the yarn weight chart provided at the beginning of the book.
Over all this is a very, very BASIC beginner book for people who would like to learn crochet in UK terminology. The techniques section is very well done. I did not like the pattern section and personally wouldn't create any of the projects shared.
I was not able to read this book. It was in a format that was incompatible with the reading programs I use.
I'm an intermediate level crocheter and I found this book to be wonderful. I love the patterns, many are modern, simple, and versatile, which is exactly what I was looking for. The step-by-step instructions for stitches seem to be helpful but I can't speak to whether they're accessible to beginner crocheters. Overall, I'm very impressed with the level of detail and attention that was put into this book!
If this beautiful and colorful book doesn't get you motivated to crochet, I don't know what will. This is a well-rounded book that covers all the basics (types of yarn, washing instructions, color choices), all the stitches (very basic to pretty complicated) and then has lots and lots of ideas.
I will admit that while I remember how to knit, I can't seem to remember how to crochet and the diagrams in this book weren't enough to get me there. I had to look up a few basic stitches in video format so I could really follow. Once I got the gist of it, it got easier.
The projects in this book are really beautiful with a very wide variety and skill level. There are clothes, pillows, blankets, bags, jewelry items, toys and more. I loved so many of the ideas that I wish my experience with crochet was strong enough to do them all now. I can't wait to work my way through this book.
with gratitude to netgalley and DK publishing for an advanced copy in return for an honest review.
