Always a Bridesmaid was my first Cindi Madsen book and I am now a BIG fan! This novel brought on all the feels and reignited my love for small town romances. In short, I absolutely loved this fun and heart-warming read. This book skyrocketed up to the top of my favorite reads of 2020. I have the paperback on order and there is a reread in the very near future for me. I need to sticky note all my favorite scenes after all, and there were many. Always a Bridesmaid was sweet. It was adorable, and it was sexy. My heart fluttered and ached as Violet and Ford's relationship grew.

Allow me to start easy and mention how stinkin' cute the cover is! Is that puppy not pulling at your heart strings? Yes, there are puppies in the book. And yes, I am weak against them in real life and fiction. Wait 'til you learn the puppies' names and you will melt just as easily as I did. Cindi Madsen somehow found the key to my heart, and incorporated all my favorite elements in one book—humor, heart, friendship, babies, pets, baked goods and men in uniform. As Always a Bridesmaid is set in a small town, Ford takes on more than just one professional role. That's more than one "uniform" and *heart eyes*. It didn't hurt that he's dedicated and gives 110% to all his jobs. I loved Ford. But I, by far, loved Violet's character and strength most.

Violet is my girl. She's a hot mess. Throughout the entire novel, I just wanted to bundle her up and protect her. Violet returns to small town Uncertainty after her dream wedding plans go up in smoke. Her thoughts go a mile a minute, and I thoroughly enjoyed her keen sense of humor and narrative. Violet is a professional photography that has lost her muse. Her kind heart and bridesmaid experiences get her pulled into helping plan another wedding. Ford's best friend's wedding to be exact. The character dynamics within Ford's close circle of friends were sweet and they all kindly took Violet into their fold. Violet's relationship with her sister was also precious.

Now back to Ford for a moment. He's very swoon-worthy. All the interactions between Violet and Ford had me giggling and grinning like an idiot. Their chemistry is SO GOOD. There was a moment where I wanted to shake Ford (and another secondary character) but it made sense that the story played out as they did in the "conflict". Not that I agreed with what he did or how he approached the subject. Shame on you, Ford. FOR SHAME. I reread that scene, and what Violet said, a lot. My heart hurt so bad, but in a good way? I was always cheering for her happiness but especially in that scene. Yes girl, always choose YOU first.

I would love to continue on with my fangirling of this book and talk about all of my favorite scenes. But! I'd be going into spoiler material then [aka the danger zone]. Always a Bridesmaid is best enjoyed with fresh eyes! I certainly felt that I stumbled on secret treasure. Imagine how pleased I was to find out that this was book #2 in a series of standalones. *happy dance* I'll be diving into book #1 soon and look forward to more stories in Uncertainty.

ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID is the second instalment in Cindi Madsen’s contemporary, adult GETTING HITCHED romance series focusing on the people of Uncertainty, Alabama. This is paramedic/firefighter Ford Maguire, and photographer Violet Abram’s story line. ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Ford and Violet) ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID follows the building relationship between paramedic/firefighter Ford Maguire, and photographer Violet Abrams. Finding her boyfriend of ten years in the arms of another woman pushed Violet Abrams a little too far. Leaving Pensacola, Florida, heading to Uncertainty, Alabama, Violet has time to reconsider all that has happened. Taking some time for herself, Violet volunteers to refurbish her half-sister’s bakery where she will come face to face with Uncertainty, Alabama’s K-9 trainer, paramedic, fire-fighter Ford Maguire when she accidentally sets the bakery oven on fire. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Ford and Violet, and the potential fall-out when Ford gets some unsolicited advice from several people forcing our hero to walk away from the woman with whom he had fallen in love.

Violet Abrams kept a binder of all things wedding having prepared for the day when she would fall in love but Violet was about to become a bridesmaid for the eighth and final time believing she would never be worthy of her own happily ever after. Meeting Ford Maguire gave Violet a hope for the future but Ford struggled with the direction of their current relationship. Ford Maguire thought Violet may be the one but a few well chosen words from others including a new revelation forced Ford to look at the bigger picture breaking Violet’s heart in the process.

The relationship between Violet and Ford is one of immediate attraction. Violet was only in Uncertainty, Alabama until she finished her sister’s bakery remodel, but falling for Ford had our heroine considering making Uncertainty her permanent home. Ford never considered himself a romantic having lived through his father’s numerous divorces, affairs and engagements. As the “best-dude” for Addison and Tucker’s wedding, Ford struggled with all-things wedding related further re-enforcing his lack of having a romantic side. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters. We are reintroduced to Addison Murphy and Tucker Crawford (Just One of the Groomsmen #1), as well as Will and Lexi, police officer Easton, Firefighter Darius, and Violet’s sister Maisy, and their father Mayor Hurst and his wife Cheryl.

ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love. The premise is engaging and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are numerous, spirited and impassioned.

Always a Bridesmaid was a really good time. I enjoyed following Violet and Ford's journey even though at times they both frustrated me, I understood their motivations. When it comes to small towns you have to expect everyone to be ALL UP in every one else's business and for both the hero and heroine to be influenced by the gossip and the reminders. Goodness gracious, the reminders of their respective family histories!
The thing that helped with the inner doubt though, was the relationships Violet and Ford had in their lives. His lifelong friends, her sister, the odd dynamic with her father, all of it was a blinking light of how family affects us all, and that's what made this story more than just a fun rom-com, but a solid romance and story.
I usually enjoy a book by Cindi Madsen and this was another fun one.

Cindi Madsen was already one of my favorite authors, but she has outdone herself with Always a Bridesmaid.

Ford and Violet's story brings readers back to the small town of Uncertainty. Ford is the Man of Honor in the wedding of two of his best friend's, Addie and Tucker. Violet is planning on staying in town temporarily to regroup and help her sister. He has relationship issues and she has sworn off men after her ex cheated.

From the beginning, though, the sparks between them were obvious - literal sparks when she accidentally starts a fire Ford rescues her from. That connection only grew stronger the more time they spent together.

Though he frustrated me at times, I could understand Ford's relationship/family issues. He didn't have it easy growing up and it affected his entire outlook. Violet also had trust issues and I was really happy to see her get a happily ever after, even with a few bumps along the way.

The writing was fabulous with lots of laugh-out-loud moments and more than a few that tug at the heartstrings. I absolutely loved getting to spend more time in Uncertainty.

Also, the set-up to Easton's story at the end has me hoping the next book comes soon!

Always a Bridesmaid by Cindi Madsen

2nd book in The Getting Hitched in Wyoming series. Contemporary romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.

Humor and deep friendships. Sweet and charming until it turned sexy hot and romantic.

The heroine freely admits to ADD and being easily distracted and often in her own world. Her sister and the hero both adjust their own outlooks and have no problem repeating conversations or allowing the heroine to go her own way. Super supportive in a way she’s never had before. She feels maybe the town of Uncertainty could be nice place to stay for awhile.

****minor spoilers here****
The hero really disappointed about three quarters of the way in. He let others in his head convince him he needed to be single and unencumbered. He was happy until others started reminding him of their errors or issues.
In the end, it’s a romance and he rediscovered his love was greater than ending up alone.

4.5 stars. It was trending at 5 for me until, again for me, an unforgivable act by the hero. The heroine forgave him. I’m not sure I would have.

I did love the story overall. In the end, happily ever after.

Excerpt
“FYI,” Easton, the dark-haired cop, said, “our boy is competitive and acts like a jack[..] whenever he loses.”
Ford flipped him off, and the cop smirked and said, “See?”
“So he needs a lesson in losing gracefully.” Violet downed the rest of her wine and set her empty glass on the table. “I’m absolutely up to the task.”
With the trash talking done, she followed Ford to the pool table. He retrieved two sticks and asked if she wanted to break. Seriously, what had she been thinking, challenging the guy? She was far from a pool shark, but she also hadn’t specified what “make it interesting” meant. First, she needed to figure that out for herself.
“You can break,” she sweetly said, wrapping a hand over her closed fist. “And then I’ll break you.” Since she’d never been able to crack her knuckles, she went ahead and added sound effects. “Crack. Pop. Tough noise.”
The hypnotic twitching of Ford’s arm muscles halted as he went from chalking his pool stick to leveling his green eyes on her. “Did you just add knuckle cracking sound effects? I’m not sure you’re doing the intimidating thing right.”
“That’s how I sneak up on people. Plus, even if I could crack my joints, I hate the sound. Gives me goose bumps.”

violet abrams has a lot of history in uncertainty, alabama. most of it bad. but when her life falls apart she decides to take the lifeline her half-sister is offering and try something new to get her life back together. things get off to a rocky start for this always a bridesmaid. while trying to set fire to her wedding binder, she accidentally causes a fire in her sister's bakery.

the hot firefighter who comes to her rescue is town superhero ford mcguire, who also moonlights as one of those mcguire boys the town can't help themselves from looking down on.

when sparks fly between violet and ford, not literal ones, but those insane let's have sex right now ones, they both try to run in the other direction. but the pull is too strong. and in spite of their misgivings they find themselves together and everything feels alright. until they don't, and while ford gets a lot of the blame here, i actually blame lexi and addie for being the ones to get in his headspace right when he was in a really good place in the relationship.

for all that they act supportive of violet later, the reality is that the trouble started with them putting doubts in his head when none needed to be put. you don't warn people off of hurting someone when everything between them seems to be at their best. if you do, you're really bad friends. and that's the thing that bothered me the most here.

otherwise, i really loved these two. other than his freak-out induced by a lot of external factors and completely understandable given the baggage ford carries around, they are just a great match.

On the wedding day of her former boyfriend Violet travels to Uncertainty, where she is no stranger to being town gossip considering she’s the illegitimate daughter of the town mayo, to help her half-sister in her bakery. The last thing she plans to do is nearly burn down her sister’s bakery and have hot as hell firefighter show up to not only rescue her but also see the other small fire, she started with her very well-organized wedding binder. Why shouldn’t she burn it, it’s not like she’s going to need it anytime soon considering she’s pretty much given up on the idea of ever getting married. as she helps her sister with her bakery, after she manages not to burn it down.

Ford McGuire is taking his duties as “man of honor” seriously, or at least trying to. He never would have thought after rescuing Violet that she’d be the one helping him navigate said duties. She’s kind of a mess, but apparently mess is what gets his blood pumping. Like Violet, Ford is no stranger to town gossip. Not having the best family dynamic has given his family their fair share of the limelight. Even after all he’s accomplished in his life, there are still whispers about him. The last thing he wants to do is put Violet in the limelight again after everything she’s been through because tongues will definitely wag again about one of the McGuire’s.

This is book two in the Getting Hitched in Dixie series. When I received it, I hadn’t read book one so I but it on the back burner until I could read book one; Just Another Groomsmen (Addison and Tucker’s story). I liked that one, but I really liked this one. This book was such a joy!! I loved every minute of it and loved Violet and Ford too. If you a looking for a small town, everybody in your business, quirky type of read, then this is your book.

The pace of this book is perfect, the characters are loveable, and the witty banter is there as well. This is a really quick read and definitely something to lift your spirits.

I can’t wait to read Easton’s story.

Violet has been a bridesmaid 7 times, and when it was her turn to be a bride, her boyfriend dumps her. Needing a break she is visiting her sister in Uncertainty, Alabama. On her first day in town, she starts a small fire and meets Ford, the firefighter.
One thing leads to another and Violet ends up using her bridesmaid expertise to her Ford in his dude of honor duties, among other things.
I was super excited to read this book after reading Just one of the groomsmen, and was not disappointed. It was a fun and entertaining read that made me laugh, smile and fall in love. I enjoyed catching up with all the friends and hope we get Easton's book soon. I don’t have any pets and Trouble is making me rethink about that :).

Violet Abrams life is in a tailspin. After spending 10 years thinking she was getting married to her boyfriend, she finds him in a compromising position at her half sister's wedding! So what's a girl to do but take a crowbar to his prized BMW convertible! OK....that ended up getting her arrested but it still felt good. Trying to escape her life Violet ends up going to Uncertainty, Alabama to stay with her half sister, Maisy and her adorable niece, Isla. She will just have to try her hardest to avoid her father and his wife.

When Violet is helping Maisy out at her bakery, she may have accidentally set the place on fire. When local firefighter, Ford Maguire shows up and the real sparks begin to fly. Too bad Violet has sworn off men. When Ford and Violet keep ending up together, Violet ends up getting pulled into the wedding planning for Ford's best friend, Addie "Murph" Murphy where he is the Best Dude of Honor. The more time Ford and Violet spend together, the more the sparks are flying. Just when it looks like Ford the ultimate playboy may be changing his ways, he gets spooked in a major way and ruins everything. It will take a miracle in order for Ford to win Violet back but of course he does in a perfectly wonderful way!

I just adored Ford! He is the perfect, commitment-phobe alpha type of guy! I just loved his relationship with Addie! Those two are a blast together! I really liked Violet too. She is just looking for someone to love and commit to her and not string her along. Together they found the perfect thing that neither of them was even looking for. Add in those adorable dogs and you have a wonderful start to a happy ending.

This is the first time I’ve read this author. Her writing style is quite enjoyable with a nice flow and easy to read. If you’re in the mood for small town romance, a hot firefighter, a heroine with ADHD, super adorable puppies in training for search and rescue missions..., this book is for you!

After being cheated by a douche canoe of an ex-boyfriend of 10 years, Violet Abrams returns to the small town where her father is a Mayor to spend more time with her half-sister and to redecorate her bakery. Neglected by her father as she is his bastard child and dumped by her ex in a spectacular fashion, needless to say, Violet has trust issues with men, and she decides to swear off them altogether... Until her absentmindedness lands her in trouble causing a little fire in the bakery, and Ford McGuire comes to her rescue...

Ford grows up in a broken family, where he’s witnessed toxic relationships from his father and his older brothers. The McGuire men are notoriously known in this small town for their commitment issues (or lack thereof). And Ford is determined to enjoy his freedom and not ready to settle down! But the instant attraction and easy conversations with Violet has him think twice about a possibility of a serious relationship with her...

While I enjoyed the first half of the book where it sets up the stage for their relationship, I expected the second half to be more about their working out their issues to move their relationship forward. Instead, I got a bit frustrated when both had in their minds this one-step-forward-two-steps-back mentality, especially with Ford. I feel that Violet has not grown and learned much from her past experience, while Ford does not do enough groveling in the end, which is quite rush in my opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️. All in all, I did enjoy their banter, their 🔥 chemistry, the small town vibe, the sense of friendship and community, and the cute puppies that I want to have so badly 😆...

4⭐️ read for me!

What an adorably sweet romance! This one is light and playful throughout, with great chemistry and a touch of steam. It's got a nice small town feel and characters you can root for, pairing a woman who has been planning her wedding for years with a guy who can't picture himself ever having one. There's little to no angst and not a whole lot of drama, making it a fun and easy read.

The story follows Violet, a woman who spent 10 years with the wrong guy. He kept leading her to believe that they'd eventually get married, but that all came to an end when she caught him cheating. When she heads to a small town to spend time with her sister, she meets firefighter Ford in the most unexpected way. He doesn't have the best history with relationships, so he's sworn off commitments. But there's instant attraction between the two, and neither one can resist the pull between them.

I loved the charming feel of this - if you're looking for something fun and sweet, this is definitely the book for you. It was perhaps a little too predictable for me with a rushed ending (and I much prefer a first-person writing style), but it's a cute, enjoyable read. Ford may be commitment-phobic, but it's easy to see that he's a great guy, and I loved the chemistry between the two. There's plenty of dialogue and playfulness to keep the pages turning. It's probably not the kind of book I would read every day, but when in the mood for something light and heartwarming, it certainly satisfies. I received an ARC via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review of this sweet romance.

Always a bridesmaid, never the bride Violet has decided to call it quits of all men after her long term fiancée breaks up with her and destroys her love for love. Now this is a problem, you see Violet is a wedding photographer but having her heart broken she just can’t seem to find any joy in her once happy place. Thinking it best to take a break and find herself again, Violet finds herself back in the town of Uncertainty.

Her plan is simple help her sister renovate her bakery, enjoy their new found sister bond and snuggle her cute niece. Things don’t start of well, when on her very first day in town Violet manages to accidentally burn a tray of cupcakes and almost burn down the entire bakery. This is where the dashing all round good guy firefighter Ford comes to her rescue. With all the commotion Violet's plan of laying low goes up in smoke and so does her plan of swearing of men.

Ford has a lot going on right now, one of the major things being his role as brides-dude for his bestfriends wedding. Being so far out if his wheel house Ford does not think twice when the girls rope Violet into the wedding planning. With their new found friendship starting to blossom into something more than just friendship, Ford finds himself wondering if he is actually a relationship kind of guy. Having dealt with her fair share of not being put first or being important to the men in her life Violet is determined to not let history repeat itself.

I completely loved Always A Bridesmaid. This book was absolutely everything, any romance lover will be in book heaven with this one without a doubt. My heart broke for Violet, she really has had bad luck with the men in her life starting with her father and then with her ex. Ford is exactly the type of guy to show her all hope is not lost. I hated the way her father made her feel but I will say it was nice to see Violet start to build a new relationship with him towards the end. What I really loved was the relationship between Violet and her sister Maisy.

When it comes to Ford I found he made a brilliant male lead; he was cute, funny, heroic and a touch damaged. It was the perfect combination, in that he was not perfect himself. It also did not hurt that he trained puppies. I think Ford and Violet balanced each other very well. One of my favourite aspects in this book was all the humour involved in having a male bridesmaid, it was hilarious to see such a tomboyish bride and her brides-dude try to navigate the world of wedding planning.

I highly recommend this novel, you can not go wrong with this gem, Always A Bridesmaid hit all the Mark’s for a cute, fun romance leaving you wishing it gets turned into a Hallmark mov

Welcome to Uncertainty, Alabama.

Where Ford, the firefighter is hot and comes equipped with an axe and a dog named Pyro,
Where Violet has had an epic bad day, has sworn off men after catching her BF cheating and set a fire.

This story focuses on Ford and Violet but includes their family and friends in supporting roles.
Violet has been a bridesmaid seven times and she's over it (as in she wants her own, but that failed). She's wedding obsessed (Pinterest all planned out).
I enjoyed the OTH references and really liked Ford. Who she's helping out with his Best Man duties.

Recommend.

The beginning of Violet's story broke my heart. The strength she has to get through all the disappointments and hurts were so admirable.

Ford and Violet bring so much baggage to the party but the way they grounded each other while lifting each other up was amazing. But all that baggage brings some angst with it. These two definitely made me shed a tear or two but I also got to laugh a lot.

I loved checking in with this crazy, fun group of friends and now I'm counting down for when I get to have Easton's story!!!

4.5

Cindi Madsen returns to her small southern town for this romance, focusing of wild guy Ford, who Addie (previous book) asks to be her Man of Honor. Addie being a total sports nut, and helpless with the feminine expectations of life, especially around weddings, asks her friends to help--and this comes to include Violet, new to town after catching her boyfriend in the arms of another woman. Violet has been down the aisle as a bridesmaid seven times, and knows her way around a wedding--though she has sworn off romance and men.

We know these two are going to find each other, the question is how. Madsen deftly weaves in complications--Ford's brothers and dad are pretty unsympathetic, to put it lightly. Ford has a rep as a player and a wastrel, despite the fact that he's a fireman, and trains rescue dogs on the side.

Violet also has her complications, in that she's the product of infidelity--on the part of the town mayor. She is regarded, at best, by her father's family as something to be endured, but here she is, helping out her half-sister, who is in desperate need.

The story is fun, and funny, and emotionally fraught by turns. We get a lot of glimpses of friendship as well as relationships, but Madsen makes time for fun in the mud, and dog training . . . and of course wedding prep, with Ford along with the bridesmaids.

Altogether a fun, enjoyable read, perfect for this period of social distancing. At least our fictional friends can get together!

Violet Abrams is trying to reinvent her life. She spent too many years with a guy that didn't appreciate her and when it all fell apart Violet's world shattered. She decides to spend time with her sister in the small town that she’s always felt awkward in due to her family history. After a mishap at her sister’s bakery, Violet meets Ford and they are immediately attracted to one another. Their relationship felt normal and their issues were totally relatable. There’s another book in the series before this one, but I was able to understand the characters and plot without having read it.

Overall Violet and Ford's story is really cute and so enjoyable! There are many things in the book that put a smile on your face, puppies included! If you're looking for a light and fun read, I recommend checking out Always a Bridesmaid!

4.25⭐

Always a Bridesmaid is the perfect book to take with you, if you're spending the day at your local beach or even in your local park. As it's such an enjoyable, engaging, and amusing read, full of varied and interesting characters, and it has a romance that's fun, light, and sweet. Not to mention it's whimsical and charming, and just everything a small town story should be. And I was completely enamoured throughout.

Would happily recommend.

A wonderful story!! I liked the first book, "Just One of the Groomsmen" and was super excited for this one and it was more than I had hoped, it exceeded my expectations! The story is romantic, funny, sweet, it also feels very realistic and the characters are well written, plus, there's puppies too; you really can't ask for more.

Ford and Abby are great characters, I was particularly excited for Ford since I liked him a lot in the first book and I ended up loving him even more, he's total book boyfriend material and I can't imagine anyone disliking Violet. I was hooked reading how their relationship blossomed, they're reluctant at first but there was no denying there was something there. And as the story flows you'll find yourself swooning, laughing and not wanting for it to end.
I really like Cindi's writing, her stories had a nice flow and I just know I'm gonna have a good time.

This book can be read as a standalone but I totally recommend reading the first one too. I can't wait for the next book!

It's books like this that make me love reading romance stories. This story gives you all the feels, especially the giddy happy feeling you get when you meet your forever person. The anticipation of wanting to see them and that I found this story to be realistic from the scenario to the characters behaviors and thoughts. There are so many heartwarming moments and funny scenes.

I absolutely loved Ford and am so happy he got his own story. I was definitely intrigued by him in the first book of this series, Just One of the Groomsmen. He is by far my favorite of the men in this series. Ford doesn't do long term, but only because of his families past. The towns people only see him as another McGuire, unstable and out to cause trouble. But Ford is trying to create a new image for himself. He is the towns hero helping out with training rescue dogs, firefighting, and search and rescue missions; who wouldn't fall for him. Violet temporarily moves to Uncertainty, Alabama to help her sister revamp her bakery, help her out with her niece, and try to find her new photography muse before she goes back out into the world. All while trying to get over the fact that he ex, who promised her some day is now having that someday with someone else.

Violet has no intentions of being in another relationship, but when it comes to Ford she just can't help herself. Ford isn't her usual type, but is instantly drawn to him. I found these two to be a great couple and they bring out the best in one another.

I really loved Just One of the Groomsmen and have been eagerly awaiting another book in the series. I am happy to report that I enjoyed Always a Bridesmaid just as much as Just One of the Groomsmen – maybe even more.

One of the things I loved about the first book so much was the group of friends. I loved being able to revisit them and enjoyed their always fun banter. I also liked how they always look out for each other. I’m glad that we got to see Addie work on planning her wedding to Tucker. I really enjoyed getting to know Ford better this time around. He was a great leading man and I definitely shipped him with Violet. I thought their romance was so cute and I really enjoyed watching it unfold.

I thought Violet was a likable main character, as well. She had a lot of baggage in the form of a cheating ex and tenuous relationship with her father and step-mother, but I liked how she was determined to move forward. She also has pretty severe ADHD and I thought that was interesting to read about. I did think she maybe acted a little more bi-polar sometimes than someone with just ADHD, but it did make me look at ADHD in a new light and have more understanding for people who live with that.

Overall, I really loved Always a Bridesmaid. I loved Ford and Violet together and really shipped their romance. I also loved seeing Ford’s group of friends again and all of his adorable dogs. I definitely recommend this series to Romance fans and can’t wait for Easton’s book next!

Overall Rating (out of 5): 4 Stars
