Ford and Violet were fetching characters, and the adorable puppies stole every scene!
Review copy received from Entangled Publishing via Netgalley
This is the second standalone in the Getting Hitched in Dixie series and I actually loved it more than the first one which I totally enjoyed! We met Ford in the first book and I couldn’t wait to read his story in this book. Throw in Violet and some cute puppies and you’ve got a winning combination! I loved revisiting the other characters and this darling town that the author described so picturesque and welcoming. If you’re looking for a sweet and sexy, small town romance, check out this series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
Oh my! Always a Bridesmaid pushed all the buttons! From the start, you are pulled in by Violet’s heartache from discovering her cheating fiancée & hearing about her treatment at the hands of her biological dad & his wife. Then you move into the funny & entertaining antics with Ford, Trouble & the rest. You just have to grin and laugh at some of their situations! Ford causes you to just fall in love with him, even as he acts like a jerk! Can these two find anyway to recover from their pasts and create a life together?
Both Ford & Violet have had a lifetime of being pushed aside & looked down upon by the residents of Uncertainty. Violet is the result of the town’s beloved mayor cheating on his lovely wife. They may have felt they were going the right thing by having her spend time but it just reenforced that she was a “mistake”. She’d had a lifetime of feeling that she didn’t belong. Ford’s dad crawled into a bottle further after each marriage or relationship ended. His bitterness became a rant about women being at fault & completely changing personalities once the ring hit the finger. This gave Ford a warped view of relationships & kept him from getting close to anyone. Until he meant the one he couldn’t resist.
The plot in this story was about redemption & love. The characters are wonderfully developed & are easy to identify with. The writer takes you on a journey of self awareness where the characters learn more about themselves & their motivations. This journey is full of joy, fun & emotional pitfalls . I really enjoyed this story & cant wait for Easton’s!
Really cute and fun story. I enjoyed seeing the gang from the previous book as well as meeting new characters. Add in the German shepherd puppies and some swoony romance and you’ve got a gem of a story. I liked how Ford and Violet worked through their issues together even if some of those issues caused some problems. They didn’t let those issues completely overtake the fact that they bother deserved a HEA with each other. I loved how Easton’s story was set up in the epilogue. I’m already itching for it and to see how Lily, Will, Ford and Violet are all fairing.
This second story in the series, belongs to Violet Abrams and Ford Maguire.
Ford is one of the tight knit friends who’ve been together since childhood. Violet is the illegitimate daughter of the town’s major. A daughter that was not really accepted or supported by either her father or the town.
But when Violet finds her boyfriend with someone else, she comes to town to stay with her half-sister, get a chance to know her better and help her sister give the bakery a facelift.
Violet meets Ford when she almost burned down the bakery and Ford is one of the firefighters that answers the call.
Both individuals’ past, has molded their present. Each dealing with insecurities, and feelings of not being truly loved .
It’s a story about relationships between friends, lovers, family members and overcoming obstacles.
I loved book one in the series, Just One of the Groomsmen and though that one still will remains my favorite, this one was good. I would highly recommend the reader to read book one since the story of the couple in the first book is important in this book.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is the second book in the series and it is just full of fun, heat and cuteness. So basically all the feels. After ten years of dating Benjamin and him promising that he was going to propose when "insert any excuse you want here", Violet discovers him cheating at her sister's wedding. After exacting revenge, she is left with no money and no where to live, so she heads to Uncertainty, AL to stay with her half sister and help her remodel her bakery. Within hours of arriving, Violet is in need of the fire department and one very hot firefighter, Ford. When Ford encourages her to go outside of her comfort zone, Violet has more fun than she has had in a long time and finds herself hoping that this is something that develops further. Ford, who has sworn off women and commitment also feels this could be something special, until his serial groom/dater father starts planting seeds of doubt in his head and Ford heads down a path of self destruction. Great story, some very funny moments, but more importantly, you become involved in the characters and route for them to come out on top. Definite feel good story.
**Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review** I really, really loved the first book in this series and was eager for the next book and it did not disappoint. I love stories set in the small, close knit towns where everyone knows everyone. Madsen's character are down to Earth and very real and relatable, easy to fall in love with. We also see the other characters we met in the previous book and see what they've been up to and witness the wedding of Addison and Tucker from the first book. I loved Violet and her quirkiness and how she owned it. Ford is Addison's Bride's Dude, and who can resist a firefighter who works with dogs? They both had some heart break to get over, but Madsen gives us the perfect small town HEA. I LOVED this book and can't wait for the next one.
A Beautifully Imperfect Southern Falling In Love Romance
I loved it. This read carries a whole gamut of feelings throughout. Violet arrives to give a facelift to her half-sister's bakery. After having sworn off men, she also needed a bit of time to regroup her thoughts, her job, and basically her whole life. No deets here, but totally worth the read to find out.
Fate really is fickle lol, and she meets up with Ford in the smokin-est way. She then gets caught up in, of all things, a weddin' planning party. There's this genteel way the South has, of saying oh fudge nuts, or bless his heart, that had me sniggering so many times.
Ford is also a K-9 trainer for rescue dogs, among Firefighting, Search & Rescue, and flat tire fixin' he performs for this community, and I fell in love with his K-9 partner, Pyro, so expressive and smart. There were 3 little Pyros in training known as T-N-T, very clever here on the names. On a serious note, Trouble and Violet bonded in such a way, it brought on a few tears about life's realities.
There are old characters, plus a few new ones as Violet and Ford navigate their journey of ups and downs. Finding themselves as much as each other and ending with their HEA, and my happy sigh. Love, Laughter, Heat and Puppies really are just what I needed to read.
I received an ARC from Entangled through NetGalley and am giving my honest thoughts and opinions
Always a Bridesmaid is the second book in Getting Hitched in Dixie series but can be read as a standalone which is what I did. I never once felt like I missing information or plot points from not reading Just One of The Groomsmen but I can assure you that I’m going to be picking it up very soon because I absolutely adored this group of friends and these main characters.
Violet is an incredibly likeable character who is easy to relate to. She’s been hurt but she’s still so strong and stands up for what she believes in. I also really liked Ford and how hard he tries to prove that he isn’t like the rest of his family. He works hard and is so caring that he honestly screams ‘perfect man’, at least for me! However, lets be honest that real shining star of this novel was Trouble. That German Shephard stole the show and I couldn’t help but smile when he was in the scene.
This was a super cute, steamy and romantic book that I would definitely recommend if you’re a fan of banter, adventure and friendships. This was my first Cindi Madsen book and it will not be my last. Always a Bridesmaid was a well written and fun read that I already want to read the next book in this series (as well as Just One of The Groomsmen).
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the story, I loved the characters and I loved the humor. There were very serious family issues that normally would require extensive therapy, but was mitigated by the humor. I like this group of friends and I am invested in their lives. My only issue, marring the potential perfection, was the graphic sex. I have a difficult time calling a story 'sweet' with coarse language and descriptive sex. If you skip over this, like I do, you will have a delightful story with a victorious ending and an intriguing hint for the future offerings in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Always a Bridesmaid is a super cute read. I loved every moment of this one. Violet is super sweet and knows how to hold her own. I love the bound she creates with her sister as she rediscovers her passion. Ford is amazing. I love how he goes through the passes being man of honor. The chemistry between Ford and Violet is cute and hot. I love their connection and that lure of puppies. This is such a fun read. I couldn't put it down. I fell in love with Violet and Ford.
Violet recently broke up with her long term boyfriend, who had been stringing her along for many years, after she found him cheating on her. As a photographer who mainly did weddings she’s understandably off her game, losing her mojo. She decides to “go home” and help her half sister. Unfortunately her visit starts off with a bang as she accidentally starts a fire in her sister’s bakery. Along comes firefighter Ford and his dog to the rescue. The sparks start flying right away, and not just from the oven on fire as the chemistry between Violet and Ford is off the charts, but Violet they both have trust issues and don’t think anything but a platonic relationship is possible. But Ford is the man of honor in his best friend Addy’s wedding and he has no clue how much work is involved. Violet, a self proclaimed bridesmaid expert decides to lend Ford her expertise. In exchange Ford starts to save Violet by helping her find her muse. Along the way there’s wedding dress capers, a small time carnival, and some adorable puppy time all of which build the heat and romance between the two. There is a great relationship with these two and quite a bit of heat. The accompanying cast of characters, especially little Trouble, are hilarious . This is book 2 in the series and while you don’t have to read the previous book to enjoy this one I would recommend it as you’ll get a better understanding of the characters ( it was really good too). This is a nice, funny romance with plenty of fire. 5 stars . I received an arc copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review.
Always a Bridesmaid is a super sweet read about small town southern living with a really close group of friends. Ford is not looking for anything when Violet shows up and brings his world upside. I loved the dynamics of them and fell in love with Pyro and the TNT gang. This series is really cute and I loved it. Can't wait for the next book.
i loved the first one of the series and this one was just a great. I am hooked on these stories and can't wait for more. I like dual POV it helps me to see both sides thinking. really cute and heartfelt
Violet, a wedding photographer, returns home to help her half sister with a remodel in AL when her boyfriend of TEN years cheats on her at that sister’s wedding. 😳 Ford, a firefighter/search & rescue worker, has relationship issues as he’s grown up with unstable parents/siblings.
While well-written and quite humorous, I personally had two big issues with this story. First, these characters act too immature for their ages (upper 20s)...I also felt this way with the first book in this series. Second, even though I had gotten to know some of these secondary characters from the previous book, I felt less connected to them here. I simply wasn’t that invested in them as people.
While the majority of readers may enjoy this as a cute, funny rom-com, I found myself not feeling all that engaged.
Thanks so much to #NetGalley and #EntangledPublishing for providing me the ARC. The opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
After Just One of the Groomsmen, I was very happy to see the wedding preparations of Addie and Tucker taking place. And of course, Lexi, the only girly-girl of the bunch is trying to help out with the flower arrangements, the cake and the bridesmaids dresses.
Because Ford, Addie's bridesdude (hilarious!) doesn't really know what he is doing. And Addie's nonna as the eighty year old flowergirl isn't helping either. So when Fords meets Violet, who accidentally sets her sister's bakery on fire with a wedding binder, he realizes she could help him out.
Violet has been planning her wedding for forever. Every single detail she has kept in her wedding binder. Up until she stumbles upon her fiancee with his pants down (literally...) with another girl. So, on the wedding day of her ex, she decides to burn her book. But that doesn't really end well.
When the hot as hell firefighter asks Violet to help him sort out the wedding fuss for his best friend Addie, she agrees. But she will not get attached to the next guy with commitment phobia. She's had a lifetime of these. Ford will do anything for his friends Addie and Tucker to give them a wonderful wedding day. But he will certainly not be tied to someone else. Because then, they can hurt you, when you lose them.
A wonderful, cosy read. Full of laughter, old friends and crazy situations. Loved every minute! Five out of five stars from me and hopefully Eaton will get his story too. Thank you Netgalley for providing the arc.
Welcome back to Uncertainty, Alabama and the lives of childhood buddies Tucker, Shep, Easton Ford and Addie, the lone female of the group, as they take life by the scruff of the neck and live it to the full!
The dynamics of the group changed when Tucker and Addie fell in love with each other and Always a Bridesmaid, features the preparations for their wedding.
Ford has been tasked with the duty of Dude Of Honour and with his hero complex he will do exactly what needs to be done.
Violet is often the topic of the town gossips' conversation but when she comes to town to help her sister juggle a small business and a small baby, she comes armed with her 'I'm done with men' shield. She didn't think it was possible for anyone, even a local hero, to crack her shield and steal her heart!
Once again, in this Southern town, we have witty dialogue, fun loving characters and hysterical scenes of not just the funny kind! And that doesn't even include our swoon worthy dude of honour, his dogs or his new, ADHD suffering saviour.
Although we've been in Uncertainty before, Always a Bridesmaid can easily be read, and enjoyed, as a standalone.
In my opinion though, you'll want to visit this quirky town over and over again because the characters Cindi Madsen has created certainly make a visit worthwhile. I'm already looking forward to returning to experience more changes to the dynamics of this engaging group of friends and the women who steal their hearts.
This is filled with lots of sweet cuteness! There are puppies and babies involved afterall! :) Him and her both have an aversion to love. Her, because of a past relationship gone bad and him because of the environment he had while growing up. They both also seem to be the 'black sheep' not only of their families but also of the town. The outcasts if you will. Not really due to any fault of their own. Neither are looking for anything, but after constantly being thrown together, they form a friendship of sorts and slowly let the walls crumble around them, but only one will be strong enough to sweep away the rubble completely. Both are good, kind people. Both struggle with their own personal demons. There is a lot of humor throughout the book. Lots of awwww moments. The story flows smoothly and quickly. While the characters may have lots of internal turmoil, it is a light-hearted read. And as I mentioned, sweet. There is minimal sexual content. While this is a stand alone, it follows 'Just One of the Groomsmen' and you'll see many of the same characters.
*I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley.
Violet Abrams' ex kept her hanging on for years, dreaming of their wedding, only to turn around and cheat on her at a friend's wedding. To make matters worse, he just got married to the bimbo. Violet is always a bridesmaid, never a bride, and she's sick of it. No more! When her sister offers her a place to stay, Violet seizes the opportunity to bond with her and her sister's new baby.
When Violet nearly burns down her sister's bakery, super hot firefighter, Ford Maguire, comes to her rescue. The attraction is instant, but Violet plans on avoiding him. That was before she got roped into helping with his friend's upcoming wedding. Suddenly, she's re-evaluating and thinking why not give Ford a go? There's nothing wrong with just casually dating someone, right?
I love author Cindi Madsen's GETTING HITCHED IN DIXIE series. It currently consists of two novels, JUST ONE OF THE GROOMSMEN and ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID. Both can be read as standalones without feeling like you're missing out on anything. I just enjoy reading series in order though for the full effect of getting to know the characters, the town, etc... ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID is Violet and Ford's story. Neither are really looking for a relationship or anything permanent. They hit it off from the beginning and finally give into temptation. Violet and Ford have a lot of getting to know each other time before finally entering into a real relationship. Getting over their fears of commitment aren't easy, but they deserve their HEA.
This was such a sweet, cute and romantic read It is a great addition to this series. I fell in love with this group of characters from the first book in this series Just One of the Groomsmen. This book is just as wonderful as the first one. I loved Ford and Violet together. They were a perfect match even when they disagreed! You throw in some cute puppies and all their friends and you have a book that you will not be able to put down. When you are finished you will not be able to stop smiling because yes it is just that good. Thanks NetGalley. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
