I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from DK through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was a cute book with bright, fun, and colorful illustrations that explains pride and how it makes you feel in an easy to understand format for small children.
The star character fits perfectly with the feeling of pride for this book and the colorful illustrations are wonderful. I love the simple explanation of what "proud" is for I think that is a great way to explain it to toddlers and since I work with toddlers I would buy it to use with them as a way of exploring the emotions.
Just like the other books in the series, I Feel Proud does a fantastic job of representing visually and in simple words what the particular emotion feels like and why one may feel that way (this one being pride). This book also helps children understand when pride can be harmful. This entire series is a great addition to a youth library collection.
All About Pride, the Good and the Bad
This very short board book that's meant to help a small child understand what pride is. The author first just defines it a couple of different ways and then says how it can come from the outside, like when someone praises your work, or from the inside. It even touches briefly on knowing when pride is too much and could perhaps even hurt other people. It ends with a question about what makes the child feel proud. I love books like this that can explain sometimes complex topics easily enough for a child to understand.
I do have one small quibble with the book. There is one usage error. Here's the line: “Pride is when you have done something so good you want to tell everyone.” *Good* shouldn't modify *done* as it is a verb; *well* should. I'm a firm believer that grammar, punctuation, and usage should be 100% correct in children's books because kids are little sponges who learn from everything. We don't want them to learn the wrong things! Other than that, I think this book describes pride well, and this book can certainly open up a discussion about the topic—that parents may want to do to support positive emotions or help a child understand that their pride is hurting others.
I Feel Proud is a great book to introduce the feeling of being proud to a young child. The book explains what being proud means in simple and easy to understand language. I liked how the book also says that you can be too proud when you make someone else feel sad. I never would have thought of this when teaching my child about this feeling, so I think that it is a great addition to the book. I love the illustrations in this book, especially that proud is represented as a star throughout. The colors are bright, making this appealing for a toddler.
I recommend this series for babies through age 5. Even though a child under 1.5 might not understand completely what you are reading, I think it would still be great to introduce this series to them early. These books are a great introduction to feelings, and I am most likely going to be adding them to my son's board book collection. I hope DK Publishings decides to sell this as a box set because this would make a great gift.
I was able to read I Feel Proud by DK for free from Netgalley for providing me with an advanced ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This title is another entry in a series that will help young children to recognize and express their feelings. In this book children learn what the term proud means and the things that are associated to this feeling. Great illustrations.
These books are not the only book you will want to help your children learn about their emotions, but they are a great addition to any child's library. The illustrations are bright, engaging and a clear picture of the emotion they are describing. I would by the entire series for my preschooler, my therapy office or my classroom.
An early copy of this book was made available to me by the publisher through netgalley. This is my honest review.
This title is another entry in a new series that will help young children to recognize and express their feelings. As can be seen from the title, this entry is about being proud. Young children learn what the term proud means and the things that may elicit this feeling. Attention is also paid to times when pride may lead to issues as in bragging. The cheerful star based and colorful illustrations add to the book. This title can help with children's emotional learning process.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this title in exchange for an honest review.
I received all of the series, so many of my reviews will be the same.
The illustrations are extremely engaging, especially for children with ADHD or other attention related disorders. They break emotions down to Kinder levels but are still able to be utilized at least until 2 grade, in my opinion.
A great resource for special education teachers or occupational therapists in teaching children emotions and how to handle them.
