A great little sampler, though I wish it were much longer than that unfortunately I thought it was the galley and now I must painstakingly wait.

I got the 6-chapter sampler as an ARC. As some other people have pointed out, this is like Percy Jackson for adults. It’s fast-moving and there’s a lot to unpack in the first chapters. It might take a second pass to have a firm grasp of what’s happened in this war. So far, it seems everyone might be an anti-hero.

Sign me up for anything inspired by mythology. Alexandra Bracken’s excerpt introduces us to Lore, the heroine at the center of this YA tale. She’s a fierce fighter, taking down opponents in the ring as she waits for the perfect moment to seek revenge on those who killed her family. In this world, every seven years Zeus turns the gods into mortals, forcing them to live in a mortal body for a week. That week is here, and it’s Lore’s chance to strike. I’m always here for teen girls saving the world, and I’m especially excited to read my first Bracken book.

This was such a great concept and very well written. Vivid and intriguing. I can't wait to see this published in full.

I am so excited to read this book. I love stories about mythology. I'm a big fan of the books of Rick Riordan, plus I love American Gods and the Starcrossed series by Josephine Angelini. I think this will be a great addition. I liked the action in just the few chapters I read and I'm intrigued to see where this goes.

This is a review on the six chapter preview from NetGalley. Lore is centered around a heroine who is set to reenter the Agon, which is kind of like The Hunger Games set in the world of Percy Jackson. To repay for rebelling, nine of the old gods are set to walk the earth and be hunted by humans who are able to steal their immortality if they slay them.

It's an interesting take and the book starts off at a fast and interesting pace that it holds throughout the preview. From what we know so far, there's a decently diverse cast to provide some representation as well! The dialogue and flow is fairly believable, with good description throughout. I basically devoured this tiny bit.

I really love books on Greek mythology and this has a lot of promise to be both distinctive from other retellings/spins and fun. I'm really looking forward to the debut to finish the whole book! I've never read Bracken's other works, but this convinced me to do so to hold the tide and see more of her talented writing!

A really, really interesting start to a book that makes me want to read more! I can't wait for a new Alexandra Braken book and this first chapter was awesome!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this chapter sampler of Alexandra Bracken’s 2021 release of Lore.

Lore is an urban fantasy and mythology mash-up of the fight between the Greek gods on earth. Lauren (Lore) is the last of her line and ready to live a life of hiding but the unexpected arrival of a wounded Athena make that impossible.

Bracken has hit this one out of the park. Lore is a tough and smart heroine and we only get a smidge of dreamy Castor but I know he’s going to be great. This is an exciting fresh new story and I can’t wait to read what happens next in January 2021!

Five stars for originality and an exciting premise

3 stars. I love the premise of this story and I was super excited to dive into this teaser, but I wasn’t particularly invested in the plot or characters; I had trouble getting through this, even though it’s pretty short. Not sure if I’ll be picking up a copy.

I just finished the chapter sampler and I'm dying to have the actual book in my hands. This is definitely going to be one of my top reads of 2021!

I was already excited for this, but this sampler just bumped Lore up to my number one must read for 2021. I cannot wait to delve deeper in this world!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher I was able to read an excerpt of Lore in exchange for an honest review.

What an interesting premise! I absolutely love (Greek) mythology, I knew this book was something for me. It definitely reminded me a bit of the Percy Jackson series because of the New York setting (and of course the Greek gods), but this seems darker and more savage.
Lore seems like a great heroine, strong, but also clever enough to hold her own. I can’t wait to see how her story goes! The sampler did a great job at making the world come alive without drowning you in unnecessary infodump. I’m very intrigued by the set-up of the plot - the quest for revenge, the bloodlines and the gods - this book definitely gets bumped high on my list for most anticipated 2021 reads!

OK so I badly need the rest of this book because those chapters were so so good! I really like the main character Lore. She's strong, a little feisty and doesn't give up on a challenge. Her best friend Miles is hilarious and I kind of want to be friend with him too. I also love that there is Greek mythology and greek gods in this book. The whole concept of the Agon is super interesting and I can't wait to read more! I can't compare what I've read to the Percy Jackson books because they're not the same but I think that readers who enjoy that series will love this book.
I can't wait to read more Lore and I will be impatiently waiting for it's release date!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Disney books for the chapter sampler!

This was EXACTLY what I was looking for! What a fun, fast-paced fantasy based in Greek mythology. The foundation of the fantastical world is set up quickly and in a very straightforward way and I love the witty, strong heroine we get in Lore. The side characters are all immediately lovable as well - sidekick Miles, goddess Athena, and long lost friend Castor. This was only a chapter sampler and I am DYING to read the rest of the story -- especially to see some sparks fly with Castor!

I was completely enthralled by these first few chapters! I love how the author weaves Greek mythology into the modern world. It shows how much care and effort she put into her worldbuilding. I also IMMEDIATELY fell in love with the characters introduced. Lore seems like such a messy and complicated character; she's guarded, but I could tell that she's fiercely protective of who she loves. Also, I can't wait to learn more about Castor in the rest of the book and see how his relationship with Lore develops.

I didn't realize this was as chapter sampler when I requested but it just made me more excited for the full book! I'm such a huge fan of Alex Bracken's worldbuilding and dedication to her characters and I could already feel the excitement of the quest in these first few chapters. It seems like such a refreshing take on Greek mythology and the writing style is perfect for the action-packed adventure.

When I first got approved for this I was super upset because I never saw it was just a chapter sampler but once I started reading it - I loved it! I cannot wait for the full book to come out. The cover is beautiful. Of course I want to get into characters, plot and everything else but it wasn't enough to fully know. But I will be reading the whole book as soon as it is out! I feel like this is will be a book I cannot put down!

I love mythology and when I saw Alexandra Bracken is writing a retelling of sorts, I jumped at the chance to read the sampler. Overall, I loved it and will definitely check out the full novel when it releases.

I’m not the biggest fan of samplers so it annoys me a bit to only have this tiny little tease, but the premise of the story is intriguing and I love Alexandra Bracken. I look forward to reading the full book!

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review from Netgalley.

To be honest, when I requested this, it was not listed as a sampler. So that was a little bit of disappointment colors it for me. I’m the type that wants to sit down to the whole story, and not left waiting months or more to know what happened, only to forget what I’ve read by the time it comes out. But, what I did read of this sampler was intriguing. This was for only the first handful of chapters, and generally by then I’ve determined if the world I’m reading is one I want to continue to learn about. I don’t commonly find I somehow like a book more after getting several chapters in, and yes if it’s borderline I have been known to skip forward, read a bit and jump back if it’s worthwhile. But, these characters aren’t flat, they’re realitisc, and they make sense. I’m a little concerned about the backstory and mythology, but I think this is going to be a story that peppers some of those important details throughout, and hold some back until just before we need them. So far, Lore is a strong character, and has enough personal backstory to make me interested. I’m sure the book will take a massive jump in pace shortly after where the sampler ended, so I’m hopeful.
