Really liked this cookbook filled with good southern food and hospitality.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book

Several great recipes, which are easy to follow. They are also delicious! The illustrations were very stunning as well.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is an interesting cook book!
The recipes are a lot of casseroles and cheese-heavy dishes. While there are recipes for different occasions the recipes don't really seem to be organized, desserts and drinks are mixed in with entrees and snacks.
I wish more pictures of the recipes were included. Some of these recipes seem to be a little time intensive and the instructions can be a bit general for someone who is new to cooking.
Overall it's an interesting book, but the recipes aren't quite for me.

This book is broken down by days - Weekdays, summer days, diet days, even cheat days! This got me interested right off the bat.
As someone who is almost a vegetarian (I have dairy every day, and ground beef every once in awhile), I found that this cookbook didn't contain many recipes for me. Hey i'm a picky eater. BUT if you like chicken- this book has you covered. There is comfort food here galore! The desserts do look divine as well. But if you are looking for some healthy recipes, this is not exactly the place to look.

**I received and voluntarily read an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
I'm from the South, so of course when I saw a southern cookbook, I jumped at the chance to try out some new recipes!
However, let me just say these are not the southern recipes I was looking for. There may be a slight resemblance if I turn my head, look out of the corner of my eye and squint really hard, but even then, the resemblance is so little that it may as well be a 5th cousin showing up at the family reunion for the first time in 20 years.
A lot of the recipes aren't actually usable unless you have a large grocery budget or you're willing to spend beyond your means. Considering the area I grew up in meant that we relied heavily on fresh fruits and vegetable that came from the garden, we rarely saw recipes like this, even at the holidays. Even now I wouldn't be able to afford to eat like this more than once or twice a year.
Overall, maybe it's just that I didn't connect with the author, but it almost felt like a sorority girl who comes from money telling me that everyone can eat like this all the time. Here's a hint- they can't! I guess this book might work for someone (with money to spend!) who wants a cookbook with an upper class southern feel to their food, but these recipes just don't work for me.

In this book you find simple, homely recipes for everybody to make. It looks and feels very organized in how the book was written. Nice pictures overall in this book. If you want some adventure in your recipes, this is not the book.

I am a fan of cookbooks and like to see what is currently on offer. Before adding any further comment I must add that I do like to have my recipe books in a physical format and find it hard to really enjoy them as kindle versions, especially when they are on a monochrome kindle! Sadly this is not a book I will be buying in reality as the writing style is not to my taste and neither is the type of cooking. However I am sure that some will enjoy either buying or receiving this volume as a gift, especially if you enjoy american style cooking.

I can't wait to get my hands on my own copy of Come On Over! I've had and cooked extensively through Elizabeth's previous cookbook, What Can I Bring? (You can see my review on that in Goodreads)
From this book I made a handful of recipes so far and have many more I will be trying in the future. Here's what I made:
The Good Chicken - reminds me so much of Mississippi Roast, but with chicken. My husband adores this and the kids even ate it!
Farro and Salmon Bowls - I love things in bowls! The dressing was perfect to dress up farro and simply cooked salmon. A perfect lunch or light dinner option.
Butter-Poached Shrimp - wow, this was such a decadent dinner! But oh so yummy!
Egg Roll in a Bowl - this wasn't my favorite, but my husband loved it!
One of my favorite parts of the book are the little notes or and tips, especially the mom hacks!
I was graciously allowed an electronic advanced reader copy in exchange for a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I wasn't super thrilled with Come On Over! by Elizabeth Heiskell as her writing wasn't something I enjoyed reading. Yes, I read cookbooks like I am reading a novel.
Inside her cookbook you will find plenty of color photos and plenty of recipes.
Some of the recipes you'll find include:
Perfect Roasted Chicken
Spaghetti Pie
Smoked Salmon
Bread and Butter Pickles
Pork Shoulder Sliders
Bone Broth
Boozy Brandy-Vanilla Milkshake

Not totally crazy about the set up of this cookbook (holiday grouping, etc.) but the gorgeous pictures made up for all of it. It's index was also sufficient to help with the actual grouping of recipes.
I liked what I'll call the mix or variety of recipes. Some had ingredients I always have while others had ingredients that caused me to step out of my comfort zone to use them.

Elizabeth Heiskell has assembled a beautiful, welcoming book. This is not an ordinary recipe book. It is an insight into the joys that food and drink can bring, peppered with personal stories and tips that make you feel as if a best friend has let you into some of the top secrets of life. This book helps you plan a range of food and drink from school days to party days, beach days to diet days. The pictures are glorious and it almost feels as if you are sharing a family photograph album with her. I am one of the readers who has never been to The Delta but will definitely put it on my list and hope one day to enjoy a lemon sparkler there!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. Thank you Elizabeth Heiskell for creating this book.

This was like an autobiographical cookbook where Elizabeth would recall when or where she encountered a specific food or how the recipe is used in her everyday life. There are also quite a few personal photos within the book. Personally, I don't enjoy many personal photos and especially when they take the place of what should have been a photograph of the food, which did happen only a couple of times. There were still a good number of photos of the food, which I think is a very important part of cookbooks, but sadly I found quite a few of them to look unappetizing. However, this could just come down to photography style and it's not about how it looks it's about how it tastes. The tips she includes are always a nice bonus to have. I especially appreciated the one where she suggests how to make a recipe vegan as her daughter is vegan. I only wish she included this option for more of the recipes. I really liked the way it was organized, recipes for weekdays, game days, cheat days, etc., but I never found the recipes unique. I'm not sure what I would recommend this book for as all the recipes seem quite common and basic. Unfortunately, this cookbook wasn't for me, but perhaps if you wanted to learn about food from Delta this would be worth checking out.

This was my first cook book by this author. I enjoyed it! Cant wait to try some new recipes! The recipes seem easy enough to follow and I look forward to cooking them with my daughter =]

This is such a fun cookbook to have on your shelf. The chapters are set up as occasions instead of Breads, Salads, Mains etc. It makes it easier to menu plan. You may already have a recipe for a number of these foods, but I beg you to try her version. The PB& J wings are a huge favorite in our house. The Jambalaya Fried Chicken Pasta was so good. The Brie pasta is OMG good. The book is well photographed and the chapters flow well.
I received this as an ARC in return for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for allowing me to read this title.

3.5 ⭐ Rounded down.
The dishes I tried were tasty and there are pictures for almost all the recipes (always good).
There are a lot of recipes I was interested in and think most people would find this a tasty edition to your cookbook shelf.
The author (for me) came off over privileged and kind of stuck up in all her stories sprinkled throughout.
The bragging about her previous book achievements and having lots of money growing up did not ingratiate her to me. Rather I wanted to make sure she didn't get any of my hard earned dollars.
So, while the recipes in here are great, I don't think I will purchase this (or any) of her books.
Thanks to NetGalley & Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for my DRC.

Everyone knows that southern food is delicious, and good cookbooks with southern recipes are always in demand. Elizabeth Heiskell has written several excellent cookbooks filled with mouthwatering southern recipes, and her newest one, Come On Over!: Southern Delicious for Every Day and Every Occasion is no exception. The book is filled with terrific recipes with a southern flair.
As is her style, Heiskell inserts her personality into the prose and makes the book a fun one to read. It’s also fun to cook from, and the recipes are succinct and easy to follow. There are also several (there are never enough for me) excellent photographs of the recipes, and that makes it difficult to decide what to make.
Although there are recipes for good everyday dishes, her entertaining dishes are the star of this cookbook. She has included great appetizers like Smoked Tuna Dip, Crabmeat Maison (decadent), and Cornbread muffins with Jalapeño Pimento Cheese. It’s often hard to find side dishes, but this book is full of them – a Squash Casserole that is addicting, as well as Vidalia Onion and Artichoke Casserole (both are unique) - to name a few. There are salads, main dishes, and mouthwatering desserts. Her recipes are suitable for cooks at all levels, from beginning to experienced.
This is definitely a good cookbook to include in a cookbook collection. It has enough recipes for all occasions to make it a cookbook that will be used often, and there are dozens of recipes that will become favorites. Highly recommended.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I am not crazy about this book. Some recipes were very common and some contained ingredients you would not have on hand. Some ingredients you would buy for recipe and not use again. It was not my kind of cookbook.. Thank you for letting me read it though.

I consider myself to be a cook who collects cookbooks that I can relate to that has recipes I can make in my own kitchen! And Elizabeth Heiskell delivers that in this cookbook. Before allowing myself to check out pictures and recipes, I always read the forward or intro so I can know about the author. I find that cooking good food that all enjoy on any day of the week is important to Heiskell. I appreciated the quote from her great-grandmother "No one is coming to my table who is more important than me." to show us that we shouldn't wait for special occassions with lots of people...fix it when you want it!! The food photography and scenic pics in this cookbook are awesome. Hard to pick a favorite section because there were recipes in each of them that called my name! I loved the mixture of types of foods to fit what the tastebuds are looking for! This will be another cookbook to add to my collection....thank you! I received an ARC of this cookbook from NegGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in return for an honest review, which this has been. #NetGalley #ComeOnOver

The first thing that struck me with this cookbook was the gorgeous pictures along with a personal bits about the authors own life and family. I loved how it made you feel like a friend of the family who she just wanted to share some yummy goodness with. I love the down home feel of the book and the local pictures to show off the theme of the cooking. As I looked through the recipes I have to say that some of them I did not have the cookwear mentioned and did not know how to use them. However, it encouraged me to get them and learn how. The recipes actually sound easy enough to make! I think I would like most the recipes shown. It depends on what kind of food you like and what your eating lifestyle is but, I felt this book had many great satisfying meals that I would love to share with family as well.

Elizabeth Heiskell does wonderful cookbooks and this book is no exception. I love the categories by 'days' - school days, diet days, etc.. Her books have wonderful pictures and stories - great to read as much as use for cooking. Author has a great way of incorporating her background and stories in the cookbook without it being kitschy or fake. The recipes are interesting but nothing is super unique so 4 stars rating.
