4 Stars!

This was my first dance with the Lottie Parker series and I was not disappointed! Lottie Parker is a strong female lead character. She's a Detective Inspector, a mother, grandmother, and fiancée. She juggles all of her roles like a boss.

The story line involves skulls and body parts of different people being found. There are lots of characters with interesting problems. I loved the narrator changes and the characters were all interesting.

I'm looking forward to picking up the next Lottie Parker adventure!

A special thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Patricia Gibney for providing me with an ARC.

I started the book and skimmed through and read the end but it did not hold my interest for some reason. It could be me or perhaps, as I wrote in my last review, "Might try one more to see if I can warm up to Lottie or not" And I guess I could not warm up to her so decided not to finish this one. Thank you for the ARC and opportunity to read this book - sorry it was not for me. (DNF)

I've been a fan of the Lottie Parker series from the beginning and, despite missing a few books in between, it's always a pleasure to meet up with Lottie and Boyd again. BURIED ANGELS picks up around six months after the culmination of events in the previous book "Broken Souls" with an even greater puzzle for Lottie and her team to unravel this time around.

The story begins with the brutal murder of a mother and her two young daughters twenty years prior before picking up in the present day. Their names are as yet unknown as is their killer. But before long, DI Lottie Parker will link these past murders to the case she is currently investigating. The question is how are they related?

Lottie already has her hands full with Boyd's recent leukaemia diagnosis and ensuing treatment, not to mention her growing teenage children and adorable grandson. And then her eldest daughter Katie announces she wants to emigrate to New York.

Eleven year olds Jack and Gavin are busy flying Jack's drone before school when they discover the decapitated torso on the railway tracks. Suitably shocked, the boys raise the alarm and the Gardai are called with Lottie and her team tasked with identifying the victim and bring the culprit to justice. But then it is discovered that the torso is that of a young girl, leaving Lottie wondering who on earth would cut up an innocent child so callously. And then a hand is found a short distance away and as the team continue their search, a leg is discovered in the nearby canal. The question is - are these body parts from the same victim?

When Jeff Cole's aunt dies bequeathing him her house, he and pregnant girlfriend Faye Baker starts making plans to turn this into a family home. Desperate to make a start, Faye begins by ripping down the hideous wallpaper and discovers a hollow cavity where a range used to be. Deciding that the nook would be perfect for some shelving, Faye takes to the plaster with a hammer...only to reveal more than just an old nook. She gets the fright of her life when a skull rolls out from behind the plaster. She immediately tells Jeff who assures her that it is probably just a fake and discourages her from reporting it and wasting police time. But Faye feels a certain chill about the house...and after reading about the recent discovery of the torso, decides to report her find to the Gardai.

But when Faye turns up dead in the boot of their car, the investigation takes a different turn. If these discoveries are from an historic case, then why was Faye killed now? Then one of the boys who made the initial discovery of the torso disappears and is found dead the following day, it is clear someone will stop at nothing to keep the past dead and buried.

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised to find Lottie's family wasn't involved in any way this time...aside from her son Sean's friendship with one of the suspects' children. It made for a refreshing change...as did Lottie's demeanour this time round. Usually, she is surly and irritating but her relationship with DS Mark Boyd has mellowed her. And given that they have been engaged for the past couple of books, I look forward to when they actually tie the knot. I really hope this is a new start for Lottie after the heartache she's had to contend with in the past.

BURIED ANGELS is the eighth outing for DI Lottie Parker and her team and little by little, she gets better and better. While this is the eighth in the series, it still works well enough as a standalone with enough elements of Lottie's backstory woven throughout to keep the reader up to speed had they not read any other of the others. However, to make more sense of Lottie's journey and her growth, as well as the plots that have involved her children, beginning from the start always gives the reader a better perspective.

As with any Lottie Parker book, we hear from a variety of characters throughout as we try to piece the puzzle together alongside Lottie and her team. And I have to say, this time I was outwitted and didn't have a clue. I had my suspicions and while partly right, they weren't completely correct.

Still, it was an enjoyable read that had a steady pace throughout and keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. Always intriguing and I look forward to Book 9 coming in February 2021.

I would like to thank #PatriciaGibney, #NetGalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #BuriedAngels in exchange for an honest review.

This book grabbed me from the first page . Outstanding.!! So many twists and turns . This book left me breathless You can read this as a standalone but I recommend you read them in order. Patricia really knows how to keep the action going and characters linked together.

Love this series and I always look forward to a new Lottie Parker story. This time, we find Lottie dealing with Boyd’s illness and treatment as well as supporting him and his sister after the death of their mother.
Two young boys find some frozen dismembered body parts on a railway line whilst flying their drone, at the same time as a skull is uncovered in a house by a young pregnant woman.
The town of Ragmullan is shocked at the finds, but who is responsible? As people disappear and more murders take place, it’s up to Lottie and the team to unravel who is behind it all. This book had the usual brilliant twists and turns and kept me guessing to the end (and even then my head was still spinning!). I’m only sad that I’ve finished the book and have to wait for the next one.

The story starts if with two boys flying a drone over the railroad tracks on their way to school and finding the remains of a little child. This starts a new investigation with DI Lottie Parker directing her team. With the work load mounting fast, team members having it out for Lottie and a new boss, Lottie soon misses the positive support of collegue and fiance Mark Boyd. Old cases soon get mixed up with new and then lives are at stake.
The personal life of Lottie Parker is on rocky grounds too. Boyd still fights his battle against cancer and now has taken over the responsibility for his sister after his mothers passing. Leo, Lotties brother, has some not so good news for her and Katie has big plans for her and her sons life.
I love this book just as much as the previous ones in this series. DI Lottie Parker is very well portraited and feels real with all her flaws and short commings. Highly recommended!

#BuriedAngels #NetGalley After reading a book I could not get in to and took me ages to finish what a delight it was to read the next installment of the DI Lottie Parker series. I adore this series and the character of Lottie and love the evolving relationship with Boyd and her children. Packed with action and drama from the first page this is definitely a book that you don't want to put down. Lots of twists and turns and blind alleys but an absolutely brilliant read. A very well deserved 5 stars, cant wait for the next in this series.

If you have been following my reviews for any length of time, you’ll know I rave about the Lottie Parker series. So I was delighted to sink my teeth into the latest instalment – Buried Angels by Patricia Gibney – book 8 in this addictive crime series.

Thanks to Bookouture for giving me for giving me a copy of this book for review consideration. As always, no matter what the source of the book, you get my honest, unbiased opinion.

FIRST LINE OF BURIED ANGELS BY PATRICIA GIBNEY

“Afterwards, the detective would say he had never seen anything like it in all his years on the force.”

5 THINGS I LOVED ABOUT BURIED ANGELS

- Lottie. Unpredictable, impulsive, chaotic Lottie just being herself. I love how flawed she is, but she has also had huge character growth over the entire series and she feels like an old friend now. One where you roll your eyes at her antics, but then think that’s just Lottie!
- The dynamics between the the characters. Especially those in the Garda Station, I’m so invested in their personal lives, and their little rivalries.
- The gristly crimes that had me scared to open my own freezer, as the images of what I just read about were way too vivid.
- The rocket fast pace, they go from 0 to 60 in one paragraph flat, and had me gasping like a Jane Austen heroine.
- I can never solve the plots. NEVER. Which keeps me reading furiously until I unravel everything.

As you can tell I fangirl over this series, and make no apology for that. I hope there are lots more books to follow, as I just love the mixture of the setting, the characters and the dark twisty pots.

WHO SHOULD READ BURIED ANGELS BY PATRICIA GIBENY?

Highly recommended to all those who enjoy complex characters, a journey through dark themes and Irish settings. Fans of Cara Hunter’s DI Frawley series should also enjoy this one and I’d also recommend it to fans of The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins and With Our Blessing by Jo Spain.

Another great Lottie Parker book! I am a huge fan of this series and this book did not disappoint.

Buried Angels is about a number of murders - some of the murders are present day and some took place 20 years ago. All of these murders are coming to the surface at once and seem to, very strangely, be linked. There are countless mysteries and so many twists and turns in this book it keeps you guessing right until the end.

On the downside Boyd is going through chemo. His sister is more of a character than in the past which I liked and Boyd was still in the book but I missed him being on the job and in the field with Lottie. The one thing you are left wondering about at the end of the book that I will be looking forward to in book #9 is how the new Superintendent plays out since she is not in support of Boyd and Lottie working together.

Love this book, love this series - can't wait for the next one!

I adore the Lottie Parker series of books. I fluctuate between cheering her on and wanting to sit her down and give her a good talking to. Based in Ragmullin, Ireland this series is brilliantly written and expertly woven to have you chasing your own heels trying to figure out who is the bad guy. Finally Lottie seems to have settled into her on again, off again relationship with the adorable Boyd, who is recovering from leukaemia. Kirby is still trying to get his life together and is still so loveable.
The story unfolds with a frozen torso found on the railway tracks and a baby’s skull found in a wall cavity. You would think they would be completely unrelated but we the reader know that is never the case, especially when Lottie and her team are involved. As always a fantastic read, not for the faint of heart.

I can’t believe that this is book number eight in the series featuring Detective Lottie Parker and this one certainly lived up to my expectations after devouring the other books in the series. The book opens with a young woman, Faye, excited about renovating a house left to her husband by his aunt. She decides to break down a wall and Much to her horror discovers the skull of a child. Her husband thinks it is a toy one but Faye is not convinced and goes to the police. Two young boys are playing with a drone and discover some child’s bones on the railway track. Lottie is investigating these cases but when the skull and bones don’t matchup she realises that there is someone out there torturing and killing young children and is determined to track this person down. The case becomes more complex when Faye disappears and her body is found in the boot of a car and one of the young boys goes missing. Lottie realises that there must be a link. Lottie is without DS Mark Boyd, her right hand man and boyfriend, as he has health issues and she is also having problems with her new boss Superintendent Deborah Farrell. This book has great characters, there is tension building all the time and twists and turns along the way. Another brilliant book in the series. Can’t wait for book number nine.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was the 8th book in the series, which makes me wonder what the murder rate is in this small town and why nobody has become more concerned! This story revolves around the finding of a child's torso on the train tracks and another finding of a skull hidden behind a wall- Lottie believes these are connected, and as she searches for answers, additional bodies begin turning up, as well as a potential tie to a 20 year old murder of a mother and her 2 girls Lottie is trying to balance this with some personal issues, including Boyd's illness and the sudden death of his mother.

There is a lot going on here, and a lot of characters to keep straight. That being said, no loose ends were dropped and it all came together. I like that Gibney isn't afraid to kill of characters that the reader might have gotten attached to- it adds to the mystery when you have no idea what is going to happen next. I was pretty far through the book when I finally figured out who the villain was and how it all tied together- that is a big win as far as I am concerned.

Lottie's constant stressing over whether she could drive Boyd to his appointments, as well as her obtuseness when dealing with her new boss became a little tiresome for me as the book went on; however, I do think the author does a good job of making Lottie human so the reader can empathize with her even when she is making poor decisions.

Overall, a fast-paced and twisty read, which i would recommend to readers of the mystery and police procedural genres. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A family murdered twenty years ago, a skull found behind a plaster wall, body parts found on a train line. There is no shortage of bodies at the start of the latest novel featuring Detective Lottie Parker, and soon there are even more...
Meanwhile Lottie is dealing with her fiance and colleague Boyd's cancer as well as the death of his mother and the arrival of his sister. Added into this are her own children and grandson and a new boss at work.
Lottie is a likeable lead character, negotiating personal and professional relationships whilst remaining focussed on the murders. The challenges she faces in her home life are realistic and her responses to them feels natural.
This is the 8th book in the series by author Patricia Gibney (but only the third that I've read, I need to catch up on the start!). It works perfectly well as a standalone book, providing a snapshot of Lottie's life with a few references to her past that do not require knowledge of the previous books to make sense.
The book is written in short chapters which keeps the pace fast. We see elements of the past which feed into the present day murders and body discoveries. I was kept guessing until the final pages and the character links did become a little too intricate for me by the end. There is some forensic detail but this is not overly graphic. There was a scene of domestic abuse that I found quite harrowing and the deaths of children was handled sensitively.
Patricia Gibney's style of writing is very easy to read, making this book entertaining and enjoyable despite the murderous content! I would love to see her books dramatised for television!

This is the 8th book in the Lottie Parker series, and without any doubt the series just gets better each time. I love how Lottie is portrayed as an kickarse detective, but still a human being with personal problems she has to balance while investigating limbs appearing all over. Recommended.
