Thumbs Up:
Fun! Quick read! Well written sequel.
•
👎🏻Thumbs Down:
This one was good! But a lot of the stories took a turn I wasn’t expecting. I felt a bit disappointed at first with some storylines but I enjoyed the character development. In the end I still enjoyed the book and I’m hoping this will become a trilogy!

📚HOW I read it:
E-Arc via @netgalley thank you to @randomhousechildren’s
Picking up a sequel is always a little daunting. There’s always a good chance that It won’t have the same flow or mood as the first. This book delivered in every way. It satisfied all of my anglophilia (but in America) & provided just the right amount of suspense & tension to balance what could’ve been just another little romance. There were a few moments when I felt like it was trying a smidge too hard to tick some boxes, but in the end, those little bits were too inconsequential to really register.
If you liked the first, pre-order American Royals II: Majesty. You won’t be disappointed!
Thanks to @netgalley for the ARC
Katherine McGee writes books about rich teenagers SO well. I powered through the Thousandth Floor series a few years ago, and I have been in LOVE with American Royals. This book lived up to the HYPE!!! While I found Beatrice a bit insufferable in the first book, I really fell in love with her here. My heart is aching for these characters. (Although, I am unsure why everyone likes Jeff... is it just because he is cute?! The women of these books are so much more dynamic!) Is it time for book 3 yet?!
Thanks to netgalley and Random House for the ARC!!
I cannot rave enough about this book. American Royals was a top fun read for me in 2019, so Majesty has been one of my most anticipated releases of 2020. I was so happy to get my hands on an advance review copy from the publisher and Netgalley.
Majesty DEFINITELY lived up to my expectations. I was so happy to see a focus on Sam and Teddy in book two and loved the new characters introduced (Marshall!).
I am so hoping for a book three ASAP!
Honestly, I think Majesty might be even better than the original American Royals. So now that Beatrice has assumed the throne, she has a lot more riding on her messy love life, not to mention, a whole country to run. Meanwhile, Sam and Nina also face their own issues with their love lives and their places in (our just outside of ) the royal family. Compared to the last book, I thought that the characters were more developed, and they also grew a lot throughout the novel. I loved it. I'm not even interested in the real royal family, but I loved this series so much. I hope there is a third one. I would honestly read anything Katharine McGee writes.
Honestly, it has been quite a while since I read American Royals, so I had to read a few synopses to remember where the first book left off. The American Royals II: Majesty picks up quickly and resumes the fast-paced and very public lives of America's royal family. After the passing of their father, Beatrice, Samantha, and Jefferson have new roles to play and have some very important decisions to make, namely concerning their love lives. While each sibling grapples with their own love triangles, Beatrice and Samantha also have to consider their new roles in the monarchy. The characters are witty and the romance is, at times, sweet and, at others, spicy. Ultimately, McGee penned a fabulous follow-up to American Royals that keeps you wanting more...including, at minimum, a third installment to the series.
The next installment of the American Royals series in which Beatrice assumes rulership and all the players deal with their romantic feelings. Beatrice and Teddy's wedding is set to proceed as the two set about getting to know each other better. Nina stays firm with her breakup with Prince Jeffrey while finding a new love interest who she thinks she loves more. Sam plots to make Teddy jealous, but finds true love instead. Daphne is as scheming and deceitful as ever.
I liked this book for what it was....an installment in a teen-esque soap opera. I was hooked and will definitely read the next one....but it really is a soap opera in the vein of Gossip Girl (maybe Pretty Little Liars, but the dying has not happened yet). It would make a great mini-series!
Bottom line, not serious reading, but fun. Grab this book for the beach, road-trip travel, or when you need to distract yourself with someone else's first-world problems.
What happened? I adored "American Royals" and simply inhaled that book in one sitting. Couldn't wait to pick up the sequel. Got an ARC from NetGalley and eagerly started reading it and that's when things went downhill...The plot (or whatever you want to call it) got repetitive almost instantly: a boy/girl A is in love with boy/girl B, but will fake-date boy/girl C, so that boy/girl A will get jealous, while boy/girl C is in love with boy/girl A, but will fake-date some else to make boy/girl A jealous, and round-and -round we go. With EVERY SINGLE character. Why? Also, about half-way through the story, every time Marshall refers to Teddy or talks to him, "Ethan" is written on the pages. Don't know if it's an editorial error or what, but it was weird.
To be honest, I thought this book suffered from the typical "second book" syndrome and since it ended without the actual "end", I was sure there will be a third book next year. However, it seems like this is the END, there won't be a third book and now I am even more confused as to what was the purpose of this story?
After finishing the first book, I was so excited to get into this sequel. For the most part, everything was good, but it seemed a little flat. There was so much going on with all of the characters that nothing seemed to be flushed out completely and it felt shallow. There didn't seem to be much in the way of character development despite most of the characters going through major life changes. Himari forgiving Daphne for causing her to be in a coma for almost a year is completely unbelievable and out of character (I'm assuming this will be dealt with in the next book). The ending was also unfulfilling, there was no closure of it being the End, but also nothing to really make me NEED the next book. There is a good chance that I will not pick up the next book, simply because of how forgettable the ending of this book was.
American Royals II: Majesty was a wonderful sequel to the first novel. I flew through the book because I had to know what happened to the women of the novel. I thought the character development and arcs of Sam, Beatrice, and Daphne were particularly well done. I thought Nina's storyline/arc wasn't as strong as the other characters. I love that the women in the story are multidimensional, round characters and that you see different sides to the male love interests as well, except for Prince Jefferson. He really isn't in the story much and after two books, I still don't feel like I understand him.
I am very hopeful that there is another book so that I can follow the adventures of these characters - especially since I feel that Daphne's story needs more resolution.
I loved this book! It was exactly the escape that I needed. The characters are strong, ambitious women finding their paths in life. The plot moves quickly, and I couldn’t wait to find out what happened to each character. It was satisfying and didn’t end on a cliffhanger, but I really hope there is a third book in the works! Thanks for the opportunity to read this book early!
Though the love triangle theme is wearing thin, I am a sucker for the concept of American royalty and the country that might have been. Majesty was almost entirely synoptic with the first book, with a few twists, but it was still good to see through to the ending. I do appreciate the inclusive nature of the book. The theme of ensuring America's leadership reflects our people is one that transcends whether or not George Washington took the throne. The third installment in the series really needs to round out this story and put a royal tiara on it. Many thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy.
Another amazing royal book. I love a good royals romance and this is another must read to add to my growing collection.
Wow! Majesty did not disappoint. Like American Royals, I devoured this sequel in one day. I loved the unexpected places it turned and the relationships that were created. It exceeded my expectations and more. Bee and Samantha’s storylines were my favorite & where they ended up relationships wise was delightful. One character’s arc I had trouble with was Jefferson’s. Night and day difference between AR & Majesty but that’s neither here nor there! And hopefully Nina gets a better comeback in the third installment. And Teddy! Wow... he was perfect and I loved his development in the sequel.
If you loved American Royals, then Majesty will not disappoint. Everything was deeper, richer and more developed. The characters keep getting better and better! How is this possible? I want to go back and read it again! I did not want it to end.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!
I was so anxious to get my hands on this book after the intense cliff-hanger end of American Royals. I have to say, Majesty went in different directions than I'd predicted and messed with my expectations in the best way possible. Characters that I previously held dear didn't have huge roles and some new people entered the scene to delight readers! I think Beatrice and Samantha both came into their own in this book, growing within their roles and the family. As much as I dislike Daphne, I find her compelling in a love-to-hate, but starting-to-understand-her kind of way. While the ending is much more sedate, I'm so excited for the next book and NEED to know what happens next.
I feel there could have been so much more to the American royalty but the author simply took British history and British royalty and British traditions and made it take place in America. Even down to Beatrice's wedding dress.
The story was alright but there was no real imagination into what American Royalty could have been.
The phrase "Edwardian Era" is used. 🤦🏼♀️
If you loved American Royals this book will not disappoint! The female narration is continued and the story picks up where it left off through Beatrice, Samantha, Nina, and Daphne.
Beatrice is now the Queen of America and this book explores her navigating the transition into her role. Instead of just being the Heir, Beatrice is now a well developed character and we get to know her more deeply. Many around her want to tell her how to be Queen and Beatrice works to stand her own.
Samantha begins the book jealous and acting without thinking and ends much stronger and in control of her power.
Nina’s story is not as developed in this book and we don’t get inside her head as much as we did in Book 1.
Daphne drives me crazy and I am not a fan of her do whatever it takes at all costs attitude.
I loved the new characters and Beatrice really sparked in this book! There are also some new romances to look forward to. Majesty wraps up in a way that is very empowering to the women in the story and I’m all about it!
I’ve been anticipating this second book ever since I finished American Royals last year and was thrilled to snag an arc from NetGalley. This sequel did not disappoint. I love the alternative twist on American history and it’s easy to root for most of the characters (except Daphne because she’s the worst). I’m really hoping there’s another book in this series because I can’t wait to see what happens next.
First and foremost a big thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read book 2 of American Royalty.
I have to say that I liked this one, I didn't LOVE IT like I did the first one. It was good to see the growth exhibited by the girls however I was disappointed by some of the storylines. I was sad to see Connor go and I had a very hard time accepting Bee and Teddy's relationship. Although Teddy seems like such a nice person and if he were real I'd totally want to be his friend. I am happy for Sam and it was nice to see a different side to her that hadn't really been explored in the first book. I think Nina is nice but sometimes I think the book would do without her storyline. But I have to say I love Daphne so much she deserves her own book that just recounts all the awful things she's done.
It was a good read, and I truly hope it isn't the last book in the series.
I was so excited (and surprised!) to get approved for this book on NetGalley! I loved the first book in the series, American Royal (highly recommend, I devoured it in one sitting), and must say the sequel did not disappoint. I can’t decide which book I like better; I just hope this series will be a trilogy.
I so badly wanted to devour this book in one sitting but decided to take my time reading it. It was so good and I didn’t want it to end! I laughed, I cried, and cried some more.
I thoroughly enjoyed the character development from the first book to the sequel. After the first book you’re left thinking the characters will move forward in a certain, predictable, way and the author completely surprised me. I was devasted over one couple but appreciated the growth it showed for them to make that choice (no spoilers here!).
Majesty left me on the edge of my seat and wanting more! There are so many unanswered questions, we need the answers! I hope there will be a third book!
