Great book on the teachings of the Wim Hof method. I really enjoyed the stories and the practical advice from this quick read.

If I were to recommend one book for health, wellbeing, peace of mind, spirituality (the true spirituality of the mind & soul, and not any dogma or set of rules), then this is the book I would get behind.
If you're here for the Wim Hof Method, then simple enough, you'll find it in a few pages of this book and you're done. If you want to read of the reasoning and scientific explanation behind the method, stay longer and you'll find out about that, too. If you want to then know more about the person behind it all, how he came to this method through a very unconventional life, then read the whole thing.
You don't have to stick with it all. The method is right there within the first 3 chapters, and that's less than 20% of the book. Take it and run with it, because it works. Don't just take my word for it (yes, I started practicing the method after reading about here, and I can feel it doing good things in my body. No matter if it is only the placebo effect - we all need something that can make us feel good and is legal and free and doesn't require anything but the body we already have) Don't just take Mr. Hof's word, either, because the results of his method have been scientifically investigated and proven to actually exist and deliver on many different types of people from all walks of life.
And then we get to the spirituality of it. Like Mr. Hoff himself says, he didn't find spirituality in dogma and rules and religion, even though he did go looking. He found it in the cold and the breath, in nature, and he maintains spirituality, of the soul and mind, is inside every one of us, and we just have to go deeper inside ourselves to find it. How? Again, cold and breath worked for him...and he's shown cold and breath can also work for the everyday layperson out there.
Believe him or not, it's up to you, really. But please, don't just diss. Give the method a chance (it's basically deep breathing and cold showers! It doesn't ask you to become an Iceperson like Mr. Hof) and see for yourself. Again, even if it's just the placebo effect, it can bring you peace and quiet and a sense of wellbeing. Who doesn't want more of that?

✨I love Wim Hof so much!
Since seeing him with David Blaine all those years ago on tv I was so intrigued by what he could do.

Fast forward to a few years ago and all the wellness podcasts that I listen to started to have Wim on as a guest and hearing his story, what he’s been through and what he’s achieved was so inspiring.

I was so excited when I saw that he had a book out and I absolutely loved it.

If you’ve also listened to some interviews he’s done before (if you’ve not you totally should, he is the funniest/coolest dude) this book covers the stories he normally shares but with a lot more detail and background to them.

If you are interested in a more alternative way of healing and health then I definitely think you would enjoy Wim’s book. I love that anyone can try his methods and they are completely free to do yet can transform peoples life! It’s so amazing!

Have any of you tried The Wim Hof Method? Let me know if you have felt any benefits! I use his app and it’s so easy and simple to follow! ✨

If you’re ready to explore and exceed the limits of your own potential, The Wim Hof Method is waiting for you.

I can’t say enough good things about this book. It’s truly life-changing, and if you’ve read it and not followed up by watching his videos, downloading the app, or signing up for updates, you’re missing out! It’s not just a self-help book.

Besides learning about Wim’s struggles and his journey to work past the mind and body’s limitations, he teaches you how to do this for you, and it’s priceless advice. Wim’s techniques only take a few minutes to complete and leave you feeling better than you have in years. He works on your brain to enhance and activate those areas we don’t use and advises that cold showers or a cold plunge are the way to reawaken the body and get it working; it’s best again.

It sounds cliche, I know, but I really did find this one at a time in my life when I needed a change. Starting slow and pairing it with Yoga twice a day, it honestly got me through some tough days. After a month or so, I looked back at what was to see I had created something much better and was not only more physically fit and strong, but I now have more control over my mind and emotions. It’s no wonder we’re all dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, and so on, the world has become unpredictable, and we all know humans have a hard time with change.

To get you through if your struggling, or just if you’re looking to feel better, check this book out. I’ve not been this passionate about something in a long time!

I received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

After watching the @goop lab show on Netflix, the episode that has most stuck with me was the one featuring Wim Hof. His breathing exercises partnered with cold exposure and mindfulness have positive effects on the body—proven through anecdotes as well as scientific experimentation. This book goes further into the Wim Hof Method, provides guidelines on how to apply his methods in your own life, and mentions the scientific studies and evidence that support the method!

While I do recognize the potential benefits of WHM, I remain skeptical from a scientific perspective. I am completely for holistic and alternative methods in conjunction with modern medicine, but I found that at about 50% and further I felt like it ventured further and further into pseudoscience territory. I think it’s dangerous to imply that this could be a cure or a fix for anything which toward the end it gets increasingly close to claims like that. It was off putting to see Dr. Oz cited (notorious for supporting pseudoscience) and quoting Osho (yogi and cult leader from Wild Wild Country docuseries) and I think that, for me, it harmed the case being presented that WHM is backed by science.

That being said, the FAQ’s at the end address a lot of my critiques and they recommend consulting a doctor before participating. While I remained skeptical and hold some reservations, I also don’t see any harm in doing breathing exercises and incorporating a cold shower into your daily routine! I actually plan to start doing it myself to truly see if and what the benefits are in my own life!!

Overall, I’m like 65% sold on WHM being beneficial and I really enjoyed the parts where Wim describes his personal life and his journey to become “The Iceman”! Until I examine the studies myself and try out WHM I will stay somewhat skeptical, but I don’t think Wim would mind me saying that—he invites skepticism and self-experimentation because he is confident in the results!! In terms of the book, I found it interesting, but it was extremely repetitive and became a chore to read once I hit the halfway point. Overall, 3 stars!!!!!! For more concise information I believe the website and app to be better resources.

Great book with ideas that I am now incorporating into my daily routine. Wim does a great job of telling his personal story while blending in the principles of his method into the book. The concepts are easy to understand and his if you are familiar with Wim his writing style reflects his personality and the zest for life that he possesses. I do believe his methods are flipping the script that the medical community has been feeding the Western world for over 6 decades. I throughly enjoyed reading this book and more importantly I am grateful for what I learned.

Book: “The Wim Hof Method: Activate Your Full Human Potential,” Wim Hof, Sounds True, 2020

Book Review by Mary Mikawoz

Book available: October 20, 2020

This is quite an interesting book starting with the point of view of Wim Hof's life beginning as a forgotten twin in the uterus of his mother. It is extraordinarily special that she knew something was different and that there was another being inside of her still. It is amazing that she spoke and pleaded, “Oh god, let this child live! I will make him a missionary!” He has, in essence, become a missionary in real life.

Wim Hof has turned out to be an incredible person who has set numerous Guinness World Records by defying medical doctors and scientists with his personal feats. He has been able to override his autonomic nervous system and control his body which was thought to be not achievable. He has done amazing things such as run a full marathon in the Namib Dessert without water and then to the other extreme, he ran a half marathon about the Arctic Circle in his bare feet and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in shorts.

Wim Hof has had many other accomplishments despite his personal tragedies. He credits his Wim Hof Method with the ability to do many great things that he says anyone else can be taught to do. They are basically three main concepts and training of Breathing, Cold Exposure and your Mind Set.

This book gives you examples and leads you through the processes with exercises and examples. He has actually taken many people who were not functioning at their personal peak to climb a number of mountains despite their physical conditioning after proper training with the Wim Hof Method.

Personally, I have implemented the cold showers at the end of a warm one. I have also swam or dove into Lake Winnipeg which has turned cold already as it is north of the 91.5 degree parallel latitudinally. In the winter time, it ices over completely although it is huge and was once an ancient inland ocean such that there are winter roads across the ice where not only cars and trucks but semi-trucks cross the ice highway.

Also, Winnipeg has been colder than Mars on December 31, 2013 when temperatures including windchill factors dipped down to -53 degrees Celsius which is -63.4 Fahrenheit for my American friends. I think living in Winnipeg is a good way to implement Wim Hof's method of colder temperatures for the body.

I have been doing the breathing method with Wim Hof's app that I downloaded off of his website and have been improving daily. Finally, I have been working on improving my mind set for over 40 years plus as I journey along a spiritual pathway.

I highly recommend this book as it is reflective of a man who is determined to make a difference in the world and teaches us how to do it.

“The Iceman” will not disappoint you. “We are limited only by the depth of our imagination and the strength of our conviction.” I give this book a 4.25 out of 5 as a rating.

He has a website online that you can access for more information which I highly recommend. You can pre-order the book at major book distributors.

I learned about Wim Hof watching an episode of the Goop Lab and was fascinated by him and what he does. The book is a great tool to find out more about Wim Hof and his methods and I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

Wim Hof and his method are pretty amazing, I do not doubt it. The beginning of the book made me feel excited. But after some chapters, my excitement dimmed greatly.

I truly believe this can become a great book, so helpful in popularizing Wim's method, but it requires some serious editor's work. Some chapters feel like an exact repetition of other ones. And the fact that Wim admits it to the reader does NOT help. It only made me more irritated, to be honest. I believe making this book a bit shorter (to avoid constant repetitions) would actually make it way better. Also, please fix the chaos in the narration. This really needs a better-organized narrative.

Also, the tips for the simplest version of the WMH breathing are spread out through the whole book. Why? Why can't the method be described very thoroughly and in one place? In a book there is no video attachment, no guided meditations - the instructions need to be clear from the very beginning. The same thing goes for the showers part - there is a surprising lack of consistency in regards to the recommended length (recommendations being spread out on many pages, of course) and I do not mean the beginner/advanced differences.

One more thought: I do understand this is Wim's book and Wim's way of thinking but I can imagine quite a lot of people getting at least slightly annoyed at how he sometimes describes women and mothers - loads of stereotypes there. Let this be a small trigger warning for readers who keep feminist matters as close to heart as I do. Also, be careful of the suggestions that this method can treat depression and similar illnesses without an adequate amount and quality of studies focused solely on this matter - this. is. dangerous. to. suggest.

PS The ebook itself has a lot of typos, missing letters, missing words even, but I presume this will be fixed by the official release.

Being a Wim Hof student (fundamental courses), I naturally jumped at this book to read it. Even if I was very familiar with the method, I learned a lot from this book. Wim shares his latest scientific researches and encourages the reader to take responsibility of their mental and physical health. Even if life wasn't always easy for him, Wim Hof managed to bounce back, and this is a very important message in his book : we can all bounce back whatever our condition. So yes, this is a book of hope and a good starter for anyone interested in his breathwork. I highly recommend it.

I loved this book. I’ve been following the work of Wim Hof for a while and I think he is such an amazing character. It was wonderful to get a broader look into his life and background and I found his story incredibly moving. He has an infectious energy and is really inspiring. He’s also quite funny. Highly recommended.

I discovered Wim online several years ago when Ed Latimore (@edlatimore) talked about Wim. A little research, and Wim is an interesting person to say the least.
The book introduces Wim's breathing method to help your body work better, meditations to increase one's oneness with the universe, etc. It sounds stupid the way I'm explaining it, but I'm not going to take a whole book to explain it.
The plan is actionable, free to try, safe (except for ice baths but you know that already). I highly recommend the breathing exercises, 10-15 mins of meditation.
Wim also pissed me off... there are ZERO explanations about things that need them. I know a little something something about somethings, but c'mon Wim, you could have helped me out. "Shallow breaths make the blood alkaline"... um, what? How does shallow breathing change the hydrogen ion levels in my blood? A little Googling and I found out (i found it interesting but I'm also *that kind* of nerd) buy if Wim is making these kind of claims HE should have been explaining.
Other than that, highly recommended.
