Just a wonderful a read. The world building and story telling was expertly done. I felt immersed in the story.
This was such an enjoyable read. I have always been a fan of Linsey Miller from her very first book, Mask of Shadows, and I haven't been disappointed since. All of her books are so intricately written with love and dedication, all of the characters are engaging and resonant, making me want more and more and more. Out of all of her books, this is probably my least favorite, and yet I STILL loved it to pieces. It was a fairly simple mystery, I saw the ending coming, but the ride there was still super engaging and interesting that I didn't even care that I had figured out who the killer was pretty quick. Either way, I will continue to read Linsey's books religiously, and continue to recommend her and all of her books to all of my friends.
Thrilling read. As the end of high school nears the game of Assassins begins and teams of students are pitted against each other. Who will win? Who will die? Who’s to blame? Quick, on the edge of your seat read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you NetGalley, Linsey Miller and Random House Childrens Books for hearing my honest review. Looking forward to reading more with you

This book was really exciting and kept me on my toes. The aspect of a fun high school game turning into a fight for your life really drew me in, and overall I thought it was really well down. I enjoyed the characters and how to plot kept me turning pages. I would definitely read from this author again.
The Game is about the traditional game of senior high schools at Lincoln. Lia Prince is obsessed with the game, Assassins to have something to prove and be proud of to her parents. However, the “fake murdering” went wrong and became real.
This book is an okay read for me. It’s exciting because of how they play the Assassins. But, most parts are predictable and show the culprit.
The character development is okay. There’s a love interest to make it compelling but again, it’s kinda predictable. The way how they caught the culprit is kinda disappointing. And the ending is regrettable because it just ends like that. It sounds cliff-hanging, but it is not. The plot is good, if the author could make it more exciting and darker, maybe I’ll give it more stars. Rated it higher than its supposed rating because it pulled me from book slumped.
I found this to be an enjoyable read, keeping me on my toes throughout. The storyline was written well and flowed seamlessly. I look forward to reading more by this author!

QUICK THOUGHTS
Lia, my sweet autistic girl, you cannot take on a serial killer single handed?!?!?! also, everyone (students and parents) took school WAY too seriously here, like omg you guys, calm down. everything’s going to be fine. AND ONE MORE THING- it ended on a cliffhanger!! there’s no mention of a second book but it ended on a CLIFFHANGER!!! WHY?!?!?!
DNF - did not finish. I decided not to finish this title. It was not for me. Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for the early copy.
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book. It was very well written.
Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.
This book was just okay. It had an interesting premise but the main character was way too caught up in the titular Game, while people around her were actually dying.
Well, I found this book to be okay. I really wanted to love, love, love it, but I struggled so much with the immaturity of the characters. I know they are high schoolers, but they felt so much younger than that. It was hard to connect with them, and it kept pulling me out of the story.
It is really fast-paced, which I enjoyed and appreciated. I could have had more added to the story, and I would have liked that. I was interested in the murders, and who the killer was.
Overall, this was an okay read, and I think YA readers that enjoy thrillers and murder-mystery will find some fun in this one!
I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
DNF
Tried the audio, and, though the performance is good, the characterization and concept aren't clicking for me. I like Miller but this one is not a good fit with my interests.
I ended up not finishing this one. I found myself very bored and uninterested. I think this story definitely needed to be fleshed out more.
Not my typical read but the plot intrigued me. It was a good read and kept my attention all the way through. I would recommend it.
Liked it!
There are parts of the book that seem disjointed and out of place; some dialogue didn't make sense, and the killer's name was leaked a little bit early, about a page before the dramatic realization reveal.
The majority of the novel, however, was fun and kept me interested. The use of 'they' and 'them' pronouns was awesome, and I liked the way the teens interacted with each other; it was very real.
I recommend!
I sadly didn't enjoy this one as much as hoped. Normally it's the kind of premise I enjoy but I couldn't get into the idea of the assassins game, as it all seemed a bit of a bizarre concept. I also thought the writing was a little weak, it read like it was aimed at younger readers but with the gore and some of the contents, I don't think that was intentional.
Whilst the book was quite fast paced, and did keep you a little interested in what was going to happen next, it also was fairly predictable. The killer and their motives seem to come to light within the first few chapters, and unfortunately there weren't quite the twists and turns I would hope for in this kind of novel. I think perhaps in that respect, it doesn't help that you know who gets murdered before you start reading, as that is literally about 80% of the book that's given away by the blurb.
Generally this one wasn't for me, but certainly younger teens may still enjoy it.
A fun thriller, especially if you're a fan of the Assassin game! It does read young though, and I didn't really get the American Horror Story vibe from it that some descriptions listed.

Linsey Miller is a great author, and I have loved all of her YA fantasy books. This is her first departure from that genre. While her premise was perfect, the execution was not. I love YA thrillers and this book definitely has some great moments. At less than 250 pages, I feel if this had been more fleshed out this book would have shined.
The Game is about a game called Assasin that the seniors of Lincoln High play every year. No one is more obsessed or prepared for the game this year than Lia Prince. Students are broken into teams of assassins and given their targets. They use water guns to complete their kills. Only this year someone has decided to make the game more real and students start dying. Unfortunate to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, Lia becomes the prime suspect. When she discovers her crush is the next target, she’ll do whatever it takes to save him.
The main problem I had with this book is how short it was. I think if this book was fleshed out more it would have been a great teen thriller. The characters were not as developed as I’d hoped and everything happened too fast. The ending was very anticlimactic and seemed rushed. The ending left it open for a sequel. I hope if it does get a sequel the author can take the time to make this premise work. So many things I don’t feel we’re explained.
If this is the only book you’ve read by Linsey Miller, please read her Ya Fantasy books as they show what she can really do.
This book was predictable. It was entertaining but I would not say that it was a great book. I didn't like the main character and the overall voice of the book read younger than the age of the characters. I will hand sell the title because it will be great for certain readers. It was a fun read.
The Game is a solid, diverse YA horror involving an assassin game with water guns that turns deadly. This is a fun twist on Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders for a younger audience. With an unreliable narrator and several twists throughout, the mystery aspect was quite solid. The characters did seem to skew a little young, so I'd recommend it for the younger end of the YA audience looking to get into horror. This is a great book for Halloween or anyone looking for thrills. Be sure to check out The Game today!
