Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy!
Sadie grew up on Sea Salt Bay, a small beach community where her grandparents a waffle house near the pier. When her grandfather dies unexpectedly, Sadie didn't want to see the waffle house close up. She pushes her family to let her run the place with her grandmother. During this time she realizes that her Grandmother isn't doing as well mentally as they had thought, causing stress and chaos for Sadie.
As Sadie is navigating the business, she becomes entangled with a man new to the community. During this time Sadie still interacts with her ex-bf, dating a new man, all while ensuring her grandmother is safe. Lots of twists and turns.
Good read, slightly intense and meandering at times but overall enjoyable. Likeable characters and lovely setting. Just feel there could have been a bit more to the whole story. I do hope there will be a follow tale in the same setting.
Thank you Netgalley
Lovely story, loved the characters and following how they got on. Want a waffle house on the pier for myself.
Another beautiful book by Tilly Tennant! I love her books because they are always so different from one another, it's always a totally different storyline and I really love that! This book is as usual with Tilly Tennant, so well written and full of events, you never get bored! This book is about family, second chances and never judge a person too fast. And I loved the setting of story in a seaside town and the characters who are all so well built! Very good book! 4 stars out of 5 for me! I warmly recommend it!
Perfect summer read!
Likeable characters, good romantic storyline, and the secondary storyline with Sadie's grandmother added a touch of sadness that unfortunately I could relate with.
Very good summer book :)
I picked this book because the premise sounded cute to me. The main character helped her grandma in the waffle business. Unfortunately it was a bit darker than that. There was a death in the family and grandma has the beginning of dementia, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I also don’t care for love triangles. I felt bad for Luke and Melissa. Even though everything was resolved in the end I didn’t care for the main characters behavior throughout the book.
I received the ARC from the publisher and Netgalley for my honest review.
Sadie s grandparents have run the Waffle House on the pier for as long as she can remember. But when her grandfather dies what will happen to it .
Sadie Mum and Dad run a boat for the tourists to see the sights.
Sadie brother and sister in law run a diving school.
Sadie decides to give up her teacher training job and help in the Waffle House with her grandma
While out in the water with her sister in law. Sadie is struck by a boat . Sadie comes to on the beach with everyone panicking and her brother having a go at the man who hit her. Sadie eventually strikes up a relationship with him but her family are not to pleased.
Everyone wanted her to get back with her ex boyfriend Declan but Declan has a girlfriend.
With things not going exactly to plan at the Waffle House will Sadie be able to keep it open .
Thanks NetGalley
The Waffle House on the Pier by Tilly Tennant is a contemporary romance. Also, as much as there is romance this one is a bit of a journey of self discovery for the main character, Sadie.
As a teen Sadie thought she knew what she wanted and that was to get out of Sea Salt Bay and become a teacher. However, now as Sadie is training in the classroom with real students she’s not so sure of her choice as she doesn’t seem to be cut out to teach.
When Sadie’s grandfather suddenly passes away she finds herself thinking of making Sea Salt Bay her permanent home to help her grandmother run the Waffle House her grandparents have owned for years. Soon though she finds herself torn wondering if that is a mistake as her grandmother isn’t as young as she once was and as the business is not hard enough to run Sadie also has to watch the man she thought was the one with someone new.
Sea Salt Bay was such a lovely little place that I couldn’t help but love with the charming atmosphere and likable characters. I also couldn’t help but feel for Sadie as she stars seeing issues with her grandmother having had a grandmother diagnosed with alzheimers myself. It was also nice to watch as Sadie grew not only in her love life but in her professional life as well.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
The description of this book was very cute and I was excited to read it. The cover is really adorable. I, unfortunately, could not get into this book. I really found it to be very cute and sweet but I was not a total fan of the main character. I liked the concept and I did feel bad about her predicament but it didn't do it for me.
Another great book by a wonderful author. A bit more angst then expected but overall I liked the story and characters. Would highly recommend this book and author.
The waffle House on the pier is not an easy light read, I thought it was going to be more on the Rom-com side but I got a pleasant surprise.
The waffle House has angst and many situations that will keep you wanting to know more about the story and the characters.
Sadie is tired of her job at least the last part of her teachings is feeling like a big burden, she feels terrified, she is no longer enchanted with her Job now she is eager to finally move on. but tragic and unexpected things happened in her life that she will have to reevaluate where is she headed and what does she want.
so many things happened around Sadie, an ex that has finally move on but still showing up all around her life, a new love that may change her forever. I don't want to give too much away, but get ready for more drama.
this is a good read, entertainable, with a good story and characters, it is a book that will keep you hooked and will make you want to turn the pages even faster to know what will happen next.
a pleasant book with the right amount of angst to make it even more enjoyable.
This has been a truly wonderful story which you just fall into and lose yourself right from the very first page. Could not put it down.
I loved everything about it, from the storyline, the setting/location of Sea Salt Bay to the characters which were all brilliantly well written. So much so that you feel like the characters are going to come alive right before your very eyes. Sea Salt Bay sure did sound so picturesque and scenic, not to mention it kept making me hungry for ice cream and waffles.
There was plenty of drama happening throughout the story, from family situations, the fate of the waffle house, a terrible accident at sea and also a love triangle situation between Sadie, Declan and Luke. The story keeps you guessing as to which guy she'll end up with come the end of the story. It certainly wasn't smooth sailing for her, but I do believe that she ended up with the right guy in the end.
So last words, if you haven't discovered Tilly Tennant books yet, then please do not delay any more.
The Waffle House on the Pier is my first Tilly Tenant book and I want to thank her, bookouture and netgalley for a copy of this book. This was definitely a very cute read and probably anyone that likes #chicklit or #womensfiction can get into this one. I would give it probably a 4/5 stars. I loved the story, the setting, and the love story, but I think it missed a little in the length of time portrayed and some of the characters felt just a little inconsistent (mom got too acerbic for my liking) but not the main character, which is why it maintained 4 stars. I read it in only a couple of days, so it took and kept my attention! It’s a great #beach, #summer read that’s easy but still has emotion.
A sweet story of complex relationships which dealt sensitively with all issues. Complete credit to the author for brining her characters to life.
Sadie left her job to help her grandma at the waffle house. And life slowly transformed for her.
The writing was warm and fun with moments of seriousness in between. Characters were fleshed out well. It needed a bit more of the oomph.
Overall, it was a pure escapist reading.
I really enjoyed this book, a new to me author with likeable characters. I will definitely look out for more books from Tilly Tennant
I love a good light hearted beach read, and this book definitely ticked the right boxes....but for me it just kind of fell a bit flat. I feel awful even typing this because it wasn’t necessarily a bad book.
I really wasn’t keen on Sadie as a character and found her to be a bit selfish and clueless. I found this a shame because I felt like I really understood her at the beginning of the book when she was wondering if she was actually a good teacher or not. But she somehow manages to get her own way throughout the story without putting much effort in.
I love this genre because it’s perfect escapism. Everything is a bit far fetched because that’s what makes these stories more exciting! But when reading this book I found that I couldn’t imagine anyone in real life acting the way the characters did, or making the same decisions. I really wish we could have seen Sadie grow more as a person and see her actually tackle the various obstacles that come with running a business.
Still, I did enjoy reading this book. It made me really want to go to a little seaside town and eat waffles.
Sea Salt Bay, a typical old seaside village with a family who have lived there for generations., one of whom gives up her job to help keep her Grandmother going after her Grandfather dies. This involves new and old relationships family and friends along with some who are not so pleasant or friendly. Life in a small place can be hard at times but this all makes for an interesting novel. Tilly always give you a good book to read and enjoy and this one is no different, very well written. 5 stars and a recommendation, well done.
Sadie is at a crossroads. Her chosen profession isn’t going very well. After the sudden death of her grandfather, she decides to give up her training and work with her grandmother in their Waffle house in her home village of Sea Salt Bay.
This is the perfect holiday read. It’s uplifting and entertaining even though it deals with quite complex issues such as family relationships, breakups, dementia etc. Sadie is a very likeable character with misgivings about past relationships, her past and her future. Her Grandmother is a feisty, believable character, who made me remember my own granny. The writer does a great job of describing the village and the people who inhabit it.
I really enjoyed this book and will certainly read more of Tilly Tennant’s work.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for sending me an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Tilly Tennant’s new book The Waffle House on the Pier has the most fabulous, summery cover that makes you want to dive straight in to discover the delights that hopefully await you inside. I mean who wouldn’t want to read a book set in a beautiful coastal village called Salt Bay that has a waffle house of all things at its heart? I expected this book to be in a similar vein to books in this genre that have food in their title and for it to be the lightest of reads just perfect to take your mind off things. It was all these things but surprisingly there was far more depth and emotion waiting to be uncovered than I had anticipated.
A problem surrounding a family member and how their relatives cope with it forms the basis for this lovely, heart-warming story and it soon became a book that I was enjoying reading as you easily identify with the main character Sadie and how she has to make some important, life changing decisions but at the same time she has to take into account how to deal with changes that no one wishes to see occur in their family. Sadie bucked the family trend when it came to her career and she is currently training to be a teacher, although she can’t say her work experience in the classroom is going all that well. Tourism is the backbone to Sea Salt Bay and her parents run boat tours of the bay, and her brother Ewan and his wife Kat run diving tours. Her older sister Lucy is away living in America and has no plans to return to the coastal village. But tourism and being out on the bay every day is not what Sadie wants from her life.
Sadie is now regretting her life choice and is beginning to realise she has made the wrong decision, how can she tell her parents that she has failed? It takes a lot of courage to admit to yourself, let alone family members whom you convinced that you were doing the right thing, that after all perhaps your decision was incorrect. It’s easy for people to continue with what they are doing even though it makes them unhappy and uncomfortable so I admired Sadie for reaching a decision that meant she would leave teaching behind and she would step outside of the box and her comfort zone. But I think with the unexpected death of her grandfather Kenneth this was the push that Sadie needed to forget about teaching. She realised life was short but she also saw that her grandmother April would need someone to help her run the waffle house. If she had loved what she was doing I would have said she was selfless in pushing teaching to one side but instead although a tragedy had befallen the family this happened at a convenient time for Sadie.
It’s hard to admit to yourself that you have failed at something. No one likes to experience that feeling as we all strive to reach our goals in life but now Sadie has reached a crossroads, the family want to sell the waffle house. They wonder is it doing well financially and also there is no way that April can manage it on her own. Since the death of her husband she is a shadow of her former self and the feisty, outspoken, smart and quick witted woman they once knew is disappearing. There were many hints dropped about April’s state of mind and I think at times Sadie and her family chose to ignore them because they didn’t want to face a further reality of what might be coming down the line.
Sadie fights her corner and the waffle house is given a reprieve. She will work there and help April for as long as she can even though she really doesn’t know the first thing about running a business. But the waffle house has been a staple of the community and part of the landscape for many years and Sadie doesn’t want to see it gone forever. Sadie hopes by helping April that she will bring her back to life and at the same time she will have a chance to assess what her own next life move should be. I totally understood Sadie’s confusion about what to do next but by helping April out, was she just putting off the big decision that needed to be made?
I understood she was genuine in her offer of helping as she had such an emotional connection to the waffle house but she really needed a strong purpose to her life and one of certainty instead of just aimlessly floating around. She feels that she can’t keep continuously starting over again in life and making a mess of things. Combined with the fact that she aches to have someone in her life that will offer her romance, comfort, support and friendship Sadie is not in the best of places and even more so when her old flame Declan is still in the town. Is he her unrequited love? The one that got away?
An unfortunate incident whilst out diving with Kat leads to the introduction of a newcomer to the village, Luke Goldman. I loved the character of Luke, he was a calming influence and written in just such a nice and pleasant way. I loved the fact there wasn’t some great big mystery surrounding him that what you saw was what you got. He didn’t play hard to get and he made appearances at just the right time at various stages in the story rather than being a continuously presence and Sadie only focused on him. I thought even though Sadie’s family weren’t too keen on him especially after how they first met that really she shouldn’t be influenced by others rather she should follow her heart. But was her heart telling her Declan will always be the one for her, even though he is with someone else, or should Luke be the one who is in her future?
Sadie was torn in many ways - romantically, professionally and with her family life and I really enjoyed reading how she was going to go about dealing with everything that life seemed to be throwing at her all at once. None of the storylines seemed contrived or forced. I really felt that they were realistic as many of the things I was reading about really could have happened in real life. There’s lots that happens as Sadie navigates her way through rough and uncertain times but at the heart of it all she really is trying to do her best for April. Yet there were certain points where I thought Sadie just came across as being too whingy and constantly being in a state of feeling sorry for herself. Yes she was proactive in some ways but in others she was on a constant downer and I wanted her to buck up a little bit. As for how the various other family members dealt with what was going on with April well I think it could have been handled an awful lot better. They needed to step in sooner instead of hoping that things could turn out differently. In that way I believed they really could have helped Sadie more as she battled to keep the waffle house open.
One thing I did feel was missing were lots and lots of descriptions of the food being cooked in the waffle house. There were little bits here and there, and I get that the food wasn’t the centre of the storyline, but I just felt there needed to be more to get my taste buds going and mouth watering. I think readers will expect this given the title and it was lacking that little bit. But look that’s a really minor issue, and me being picky really, because aside from that this is a really good story. Sadie took the family’s problems on her shoulders and yes the family allowed her to do that but its how she navigates the stormy waters and at the same time does some real growing up that makes Sadie a character you will root for and this a story that you will thoroughly enjoy.
This was a pretty good insta love story. I liked that it took place in a small coastal town. I liked the friendships and the family bonds. What I didn't like was that Sadie called her parents and grandparents by names of mom, dad, gammy and gampy and then turned and called them by their given names.
Then Sadie is hit by a boat and a few days later she is on a date with the guy who hit her. That's okay. But then the next day she's on a date with him again and then a day later, she's in his bed. What got me was they guy, after having sex with Sadie, starts questioning if she's going to break his heart and says he doesn't want to give his whole self away because he's scared to get his heart broken.
I do have to say the ending was good.
