This is a great start to a new series. I loved the way the author described the small town. It really brought it to life. I, also loved all the characters. I look forward getting to know each one better. The mystery had me guessing to the end. I look forward to reading more in this series.
I received a digital arc from Netgalley and Kensington Books for my honest opinion. Thank you.
I loved meeting chloe and viví. This was a quick, fun, light read. I liked the setting. I look forward to the next book in this series.
What a great start to a new cozy series! Chloe is working at a beachside bar (that conveniently closes at 9 p.m. - that's something I can get on board with) in the Florida Panhandle after moving down there from Chicago.
See, Chloe made a promise to her college best friend that she would help his grandmother Vivi if anything happened to him while he was deployed. After his tragic death overseas, Chloe intends to keep that promise.
I loved that Harris offers a realistic, not idealized, version of the panhandle. Her character descriptions felt spot-on for Florida tourists and natives. The Sea Glass Saloon is a little less western, and a lot more tiki hut and is typically a hangout for the locals. When Chloe finds the body of a bar regular behind a dumpster, she takes it upon herself to investigate. I have some theories about where the rest of the series could go, and i'm excited to see where Harris takes us next!
Very cozy mystery with fantastic characters and setting, well written and with a good plot, but the best is the humor. Excellent entertainment, and I'm waiting for more.
From Beer to Eternity is the first in the new series, A Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery book by Sherry Harris. I did not want to put it down! I'm already waiting on the next book.
Chloe has recently arrived from Chicago and just wants to honor her deceased friend's request and help his grandmother with his passing and the grandmothers beachside bar for a few weeks. Little did she know, grandma is not a frail senior but a Vivi is one feisty lady. When a regular from the bar (who has been acting strange in the last few weeks) turns up murdered outside the bar, all signs point to Vivi being the guilty party.
Chloe doesn't think Vivi could have done it or could she. She decides to investigate on her own but being new in town, will the locals open up to her. They all are a close knit group and who is the "fixer" and why is she needed in the small town.
This easy to read cozy has it all, starting with a well written mystery, a great setting (you had me at Florida beach) great characters, some quirky, humor, and just maybe a touch of romance.
I now want to go to Emerald Cove and get a drink at the Sea Glass Saloon.
I was given an ARC by NetGalley and Kensington for an honest review.
From Beer to Eternity is a well written cozy type mystery. The great beginning of a new series. Loved the setting and the quirky characters. I received an advance ebook from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.
I really enjoyed this book but the only thing that I really did not like is the main character Chloe. I really did not like the way she was lying about why she was sticking around and also the way she would act when someone would offer to give her help. An example of this is when a character would offer her a place to stay because she did not have a place.
But besides Chloe I enjoyed the other characters and the way the mystery was solved. I think I would like to see if Chloe's personality changes in the series and what happens with the side characters like Joaquin.
Chloe Jackson is working at the Sea Glass Saloon for a couple weeks to help out a friend's grandmother. She doesn't feel welcomed at all, but she promised her friend before he passed away. When she discovers a dead body outside the bar, it's up to Chloe to do what she can to figure out who the murderer is, before she ends up dead herself!
This was a fun cozy mystery set on the beaches of Florida. Especially with all that's going on in the real world today, this was a great escape to slide into Chloe's world. I can't wait for more books in this series!
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.
Loved this story. Loved all the twists and turns and surprises. Fun start to a new series. Can't wait to read the next one!
This book was great! I enjoyed the setting, the characters, the plot and the story line. I thought the mystery came along nicely, and I loved the characters and their quirks. I was really disappointed when the book ended and there wasn't a second one to immediately start on.
Chloe Jackson loves her librarian job in Chicago, however when her best friend, Boone is killed in action while in Afghanistan, she makes good on her promise to him to go down to Florida and check on his grandma, Vivi and her bar, The Sea Glass. When Chloe arrives, she expects to find a frail old woman, barely able to manage the bar, but instead she finds a vibrant, strong willed woman, who doesn't take anything from anyone! Chloe manages to land a job in the Sea Glass, although she knows nothing about making drinks, and has to rely heavily on the bartender, Joaquin. Chloe is trying to be sneaky and camping out on Boone's boat, sleeping under the tarp. One morning on her way to work, she finds a dead body, She recognizes him as Elwell, an odd, armadillo hat wearing regular at The Sea Glass. The police set their sights on Vivi, and Chloe now knows why Boone asked her to keep an eye on Vivi, and proving that she is innocent!
I loved all the twists and turns in the book and the action. The only problem I had was keeping all of the characters straight. There were quite a few and at times I got them confused, although if I weren't so involved in it and reading so fast, maybe I would have been able to!
LIght, easy read, cozy mystery.
Chloe's friend Boone was killed suddenly while overseas serving the country. Before his deployment, Boone had Chloe promise that if anything happened to him she would go down to the panhandle of Florida and make sure his grandmother, Vivi was ok. Determined to keep the promise she made to Boone, Chloe takes a leave of absence from her job and stays on after the memorial service for Boone. Pretending she needs a job, she starts to work for Vivi at the bar she owns, the Sea Glass.. While out for a run Chloe stumbles upon a dead body behind the bar, and the key suspect is Vivi. Chloe is determined to uncover who really killed Elwell and why. But when she starts getting close to solving the murder, there are attacks on her life as well. Can she uncover the truth before she ends up getting killed, and when all is over will she be able to leave to head back home?
I enjoyed the characters in this story, and found myself rooting for them, especially Chloe.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The titles of Sherry Harris' books always make me chuckle and this one is no exception. From Beer to Eternity is the first in the Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series and introduces Chloe Jackson, a librarian from Chicago. A promise to a friend sets her off the Florida to help the friend's grandmother. Chloe thinks she will be aiding a frail old lady, but Vivi Slidell is anything but. Vivi is vivacious, hard driving and stubborn and pretty much able to take care of herself, that is until she is accused of murder. In true librarian fashion, Chloe has the answers. My favorite part of the book was when Chloe was alone at the bar and she asks a patron "How may a help you." The woman is so stunned by this question, she lists all the things she needs help with including her joint aches and Chloe offers her answers. I laughed out loud of that part. A terrific start to a new series.
Loved the name Sea Glass saloon and the author is one of my favorites so I was excited to pick this one up and it's a great start to a new series
This was a very enjoyable whodunit that kept me engaged throughout. We meet our heroine, on a promise to a friend helping out his family member. What she soon encountered is a dead body and when evidence points to the local bar owner, Chloe has to do everything in her power to prove Vivi’s innocence and keep her promise.
The author does a great job with aligning the pool of suspects with their perceived misdeed that puts them on Chloe’s list. Watching her go through all the trials and tribulations of uncovering clues, verifying its truthfulness and getting herself in the cross-hair of the killer, made such a fantastic read that I savored every moment. Each character had a pivotal role that aided in the revelation of the killer’s identity and their motive and it was fun watching it all play out.
Boasting an eclectic cast of characters, a small-town atmosphere and engaging dialogue, this was an entertaining book to read and I can’t wait to see what new adventures await Chloe and her friends in this pleasantly appealing debut series.
Chloe made a promise to her best friend and she is trying very hard to keep that promise because that's what you do for your best friend. But, it's not going very well. Chloe promised Boone to go from Chicago to the panhandle of Florida to help his grandmother if anything happened to him in Afghanistan. It happened and now Chloe is getting not so nice treatment from grandmother Vivi. Someone was murdered behind Vivi's bar; she's being framed for the murder and if that's not enough to make her life miserable. Vivi finds out Boone left his beach side cottage to Chloe along with his share of the bar! Will Chloe and Vivi ever get along and will they find the real murderer?
I had assumed that this was another in the Sarah Winston Garage Sale Series and a bit disappointed that it wasn't. However, after only a few pages, I was drawn into the story that kept me turning the pages until the end.
I love the setting as my husband is from the area of Florida and had no trouble envisioning the area. Too bad that can't visit the Glass Sea Saloon the next time that I'm in the area.
Chloe, Vivi, and the other characters are just a bit quirky and most seem very lovable. I can't wait to see how the relationships continue to develop.
This is a series that I'll be eagerly waiting for the next one.
I liked this book. It's an interesting story that moves along nicely. I enjoyed the descriptions of the area that it's based in. The reveal of the killed was exciting and surprising although the main character suspected him. #FromBeertoEternity #NetGalley
From Beer to Eternity is the debut of the Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series set in Emerald Cove, FL and featuring children's librarian, Chloe Jackson. While living in Chicago, Chloe made a promise to her best friend Boone Slidell that if something happened to him while deployed with the National Guard in Afghanistan that she would make her way to the Florida panhandle and look after his grandmother Vivi.
Sadly, Boone was killed and Chloe is now working as a waitress in Vivi's Sea Glass Saloon. Vivi isn't too happy to have her there but believing the lie that Chloe needs to get car parts in order to drive her vintage Beetle back to Chicago, she's letting her pick up a few shifts. Between Chloe living in her car and hiding out on Boone's boat, Florida life isn't too great. The only good thing that's happened is she's made friends with the bartender, Joaquin who seems to be on her side.
After closing up the bar one evening Chloe overhears an argument between Vivi and an unknown male. When she finds the body of Elwell Pugh, the armadillo shell wearing president of the local Chamber of Commerce stabbed behind the Sea Glass, Chloe can't help but wonder if Vivi had something to do with the man's death. Teaming up with Joaquin and the mysterious fireman Rhett Butler, she sets out to keep her promise to Boone and clear Vivi's name.
Plenty of suspects, a fast paced plot and developing characters make for an interesting debut. Readers of the author's Sarah Winston's Garage Sale Mystery series will enjoy this new series. A surprise ending means many more adventures are in store for Chloe in Emerald Cove.
I received an advanced copy of From Beer to Eternity from NetGalley via Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
I could practically taste the tang of salt air and feel a cool ocean breeze flowing off the coast of Florida as I sipped a frozen daiquiri served to me by waitress Chloe Jackson at the Sea Glass beach bar. Quirky bar patrons, each absorbed with their own problems—some leaders, some followers—have recently become a part of Chloe’s daily routine. Happening across the corpse of a regular customer is a shock! Vivi Jo Slidell, owner of the Sea Glass Saloon and part of the local Heritage business group, is hard to get to know and doesn’t know the real reason Courtney is there and why she sought work at her bar. So....the Mystery-solving begins.
This new cozy series is my favorite of 2020! The tiki bar workers are great! The detailed scenes are refreshing, and the plot is original. Beach settings are always a favorite of mine. As truths are revealed, emotions thaw, and the author sets up a grand ending. A fabulous new series to add to my auto-buy list!
I honestly reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington. Thank you.
First in a new series. Chloe Jackson has gone down to the Emerald Coast in i as a promise to her best friend Boone who died in Afghanistan. Boone requested Chloe to look after his Grandmother if anything happened to him, she expected a little old lady not a spunky Vivi. Chloe is telling everyone she is sticking around as she needs a part for her vintage VW bug but has no place to stay and has been sleeping in her car or sleeping on Boone’s boat. She is working at Vivi’s bar the Sea Glass Saloon and one morning as she is found by someone on Boone’s boat. His name is Rhett and he says he will keep her secret but as she is walking back to the Sea Glass she finds the dead body of Elwell a local developer and regular at the Sea Glass. As he was killed with a bar knife from the Sea Glass Vivi is the prime suspect. Chloe feels she must find the killer and clear Vivi as part of her promise to Boone before she can head back to Chicago. Chloe and Vivi do not exactly get along and when Boone leaves his house, boat and portion of the Sea Glass things get even more tense. Chloe is determined and her character really begins to grow as the story continues. She is determined to help Vivi out of her love for Boone and her promise. It was a good mystery and you really could not figure out who did it until the end. Great secondary characters. I look forward to the next installment.
