I loved this debut book in a new series by Sherry Harris. It was witty, fun, and entertaining. The plot had twists and turns that left me reading way past my bedtime - so much so that I was nodding off to sleep but didn't want to put it down! I loved all the characters and found several intriguing. I hope to see more of those characters and hopefully some of their backstory in the future. I can't wait to go back for a visit!
This was overall a good read and a good start to a new series. I have read the author's other series and was interested in this one. I have a house down near Pensacola so I know the area so that was an interesting aspect. I liked the characters in the story, especially the main character. I hope as then series goes on, that there will be some new characters added. I did feel as if the ending was a bit rushed and not quite thought out completely. It had a few holes that didn't make sense.
As a fan of Sherry Harris, I was excited to see she had a new series. From Beer to Eternity is the first book in what seems to be an exciting series!
Chloe is devastated by her best friends death, Boone was deployed in Afghanistan when he was killed.
Chloe made a promise to him, that if anything ever happened, she would keep her eye on his grandmother, Vivi.
Vivi is a spunky gal, who isn’t very happy to have Chloe watching over her.
I felt an immediate connection with all the characters, but I am finding I really love Vivi. I have a feeling Chloe and Vivi are going to become great friends, with a lot of crazy adventures in their future.
There were so many laugh out loud moments, but my favorite one is when Michael is asked who owns Two Bobs.
I’m really looking forward to reading more in this series.
cozy-mystery, Florida, family-dynamics, friendship, firefighters, librarian
When her best friend dies in Afghanistan, Chicago children's librarian Chloe gets herself down to the
Florida panhandle to fulfill the promise she made. Only his grandmother wasn't at all what she expected. Instead she was a fashionable owner of a respectable bar and she resented Chloe. Then an odd customer gets stabbed to death just outside the back door of the bar, and Chloe was the one to find the body. It gets personal real fast and Chloe needs to find out who seems to have framed Vivi. Poking around gets Chloe into some very real danger and things just seem to keep escalating. Excellent read with very memorable characters. I'm very glad that this is the start of what looks to be a very interesting series!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
This is my first mystery by Sherry Harris and I really enjoyed it! I wasn't sure at first how Chloe, an outsider to the area would fare, but once the story progressed, it flowed much more naturally. I thought the characters, especially Chloe and Joaquin, were fleshed out, but I would have liked more background on Vivi and Rhett. Hopefully, the next book will dig deeper into them. Some of Chloe's decisions and rationale seemed implausible at times and that took away some of the story for me. The mystery storyline was good and I did not see the ending coming. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Harris' stories and the next in this series.
This is a great start to anew series. What can possibly go wrong when a librarian from Chicago becomes a bar employer in Florida?! I loved the characters and the setting and I can't wait to read more in this series.
Kindle Copy for Review from NetGalley and Kensington Books
I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
In this new cozy series, we meet Chloe Jackson who moves to the Florida Panhandle to help run her late friend’s grandmother Vivi’s shop. She is a fiery woman who isn’t the typical retiree nor is the town a touristy setting.
When a local regular crosses path with Vivi and ends up dead she becomes the prime suspect, Chloe will have to find the murder before they become the next victims. Vivi isn’t the only one in town with secrets as things het up in sunny Florida.
A nice new cozy read.
I can only give this book 4 stars when it could easily have been a 5 with a little extra. It was a very rushed ending and a few little points throughout the book just were not explained or clarified. Bit disappointing.
The first Chloe Jackson Sea Glass Saloon Mystery, From Beer to Eternity, was such a page turner I started it at breakfast, read straight through, and finished just after lunch! Chloe Jackson of Chicago is temporarily residing in sunny Emerald Cove, Florida after the death of her best friend, Boone, as he requested she take care of his grandmother if anything ever happened to him. Unfortunately for Chloe, Vivi, Boone's grandmother, is fiercely independent and doesn't want her help - that is until a man is found murdered behind the bar and Vivi seems to be the chief suspect. A fantastic cozy with wonderful characters, beautiful scenery, and a great mystery - I loved it! A+++
I wasn't sure about this book when I first started. It seemed a bit slow. I couldn't have been more wrong. The author really created a wonderful character with Chloe. She's independent, smart, but not arrogant. Her love for her friend Boone made her warm. This was a plot I haven't seen before and the descriptions of the beach, bars, and sun, made me want to pack up and go!
