Prior to being invited to take part on the blog tour for 'Swipe Right', I must admit that I hadn't come across Stephie Chapman before. I know where have I been all this time?? I thoroughly enjoyed 'Swipe Right' but more about that in a bit.
From the moment I read the synopsis for 'Swipe Right', I knew that I was going to love this book. I must be psychic (or psychopathic) because I did fall in love with the story- pardon the pun. 'Swipe Right' came along at the right time for me and it proved to be the distraction that I so badly needed. I was feeling a bit low and in agony with my back and 'Swipe Right' was the remedy I so badly needed. The book developed a hold over me from the moment I first picked the book up until the moment I read the last word on the last page. I loved the characters and I found that I began to care about what happened to them so of course I had to keep reading to see how the story developed and to discover what fate had in store for the various characters. The pages turned quite quickly as I seemed to race my way to the end. 'Swipe Right' is one of those books that you are desperate to finish because you want to know what happens but at the same time you don't want it to finish because you are enjoying the story that much that you just don't want it to end. Other bookworms will know exactly what I mean by that.
'Swipe Right' is very well written. The author certainly knows how to catch your attention with the bright and breezy cover, the synopsis entices you into the book and well then the rest is history as the saying goes. I can honestly say that I haven't chuckled away to myself as much as I did whilst reading 'Swipe Right' for a long, long time. Stephie has one of those writing styles that reads more like a chat between friends than an actual book. I hope that makes sense. Stephie describes the characters so well that they seemed almost as real as you and I. I felt as though I was part of the story myself and that's down to Stephie's very vivid and descriptive storytelling.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Swipe Right' and I would recommend it to other readers. I will be reading more of Stephie's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
Fun and flirty. Stephie Chapman has written an engaging enemies to friends to lovers Will they won’t they story. Fran and Ollie meat when they are both interviewing for the same job. Fran instantly does not like Ollie, but when they both get the job and start working together they start to form a friendship. There is definitely chemistry between the two, but they are both involved with other people. Time goes by and the bond deepens between Fran and Ollie, Fran and her boyfriend break up. Newly single Fran starts to write a column about her experience with dating using a dating app. What follows is a cute story filled with right swipes, bad dates, cute costumes, fun parties, tacos and guacamole, pub nights, and complicated relationships.
Fran was a fun relatable character that I’d love to be friends with. I was glad to see her end things with her boyfriend Lucas, he definitely did not deserve her, but I was not always convinced that Ollie deserved her either. This book is compared to one of my favorite romcom movies “When Harry Met Sally”, and I can see it. As far as the friends to lovers trope and the can men and women ever truly be just friends question. Although I don’t think Harry ever dated anyone as unlikable as Ollie’s girlfriend Lou. I mean I understand why she did not like Fran, I probably wouldn’t either given the circumstances, but she just seemed angry. So I think the fact that I didn’t always understand Ollie and Lou’s relationship took a little bit away from the book for me. But I did love Fran and her friends, they were very there for her. I also had fun reading about Fran’s really bad dates, and wow did she have some bad luck. This was a charming escapist read with some delightful characters, humorous moments, and a sweet very slow burn romance.

*** Big thank you to Hera Books for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***
I have got the worse case of leaky eyes after finishing this, I am not sure that they are going to stop neither! When I saw Stephie had another book coming out I knew I had to read it, I adored Call Me, Maybe and so I knew Swipe Right would be a must-read for me.
The instant I met Ollie and Fran, I loved them, I loved the chemistry, banter and most of their friendship, the work-marriage status. I mean who does not love the closeness with another person that they share. I think most people have a work-marriage, not necessarily finishing the way this does but as I say it is nice when that person gets you.
Ollie and Fran get each other, from the minute they meet at the job interview, you feel the crackle of electricity between them. Both with respective partners become a dream team. It is always an inconvenience when you are dying for the two main characters to be together, especially when they have partners. You almost want to hate the partners because they are interfering in your reading but you know they are only human too!
One of my favourite scenes I have to say is Fran’s smackdown at Lucas’s Christmas Party – bam – talk about a mic drop. You have to read it to find out what I mean but if I had been drinking something I think it might have been snorted out my nose!!!!
It is not until halfway through the book that we get to its namesake, although I was wondering when it was going to happen. I was enjoying the lead up to it. I just could not put this book down and I did not want to either. The characters are realistic and flawed, so flawed but that is what makes great!
Is it also wrong to enjoy reading about someones disastrous dating life? I mean what is about revelling in the awful dates someone has to endure and there were some clangers, from one extreme to another, crying and clingy to damn right abusive!
I have read a couple of books like this before, but this is by far my favourite of them. I was smiling pretty much the whole way through, I know this because my face hurts! Odd as it sounds, I want to just climb inside the pages and stay in a happy place with everyone, especially Carlina. What a fab gal she is. I know you must think I am right old nut job, I mean I am, but this book is a safe haven. It is a book to make you smile and to reinforce that there is love in the world.
So slow and long. I felt like the first 45% was backstory and lead up, and was just way too long. And I didn’t find really any of the characters to be sympathetic, so I wasn’t real invested. Just missed the mark for me.
3 stars
Swipe Right is a work place romance with a love/hate relationship mind in.
Fran and Ollie want the same job. They are competitive and seem to be smitten with each other. Itjust seemed a little dragged out to me.
This was a very fresh, bright, modern book about Fran, who we meet as she gets ready for a job interview.
From the off I was right there, giggling as she received multiple messages from relatives telling her to be herself but not too much(!) and going through that awful rigmarole that has to be done to get a job, the ‘we’ll put you into teams and you work together, but remember you’re against one another’ thing. It was vivid and real and I was right there, wondering about Ollie, who was an epic example of someone who can surprise you in the loveliest way with a tiny gesture when you least expect it, after thinking ‘just who does he thing he is?!’
I’ll admit I felt so old reading this, I literally just saw the phrase ‘for the tinder age’ now and thought ‘ahhh okay!!’ Saying that I absolutely flew through it, totally enjoying the chemistry, the settings and the vividness, all paving the way for an extremely heart warming ending.
Thanks so much to Sarah from Books on the Bright Side for the book in return for an honest review and for allowing me to be part of the blog tour.
I enjoyed this very much, which isn't something I can say about most of the recent chick lit books. This had the right amount romance and twists to keep me interested and keep the book moving. Is it predictable? Aren't they all? But the stuff in the middle kept it interesting and fresh. Anyone that has ever used a dating app will relate to Fran and will even have their own bad date stories.
Thank you NetGalley and BOTBS for a complimentary copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

REVIEW ☆☆☆
I'm so glad my dating days were during the prehistoric era when people actually met in person and had a real conversation. Maybe I'm just old (fortyish), but the whole swipe this way or that way concept is ludicrous and superficial to me. I'm in the middle about this book, Swipe Right. On one hand, it's a cute entertaining story that is basically a romcom. There are humorous moments and serious moments. Fran and Ollie are interesting characters. Fran is sympathetic but frustrating because she needs to stand up for herself and be clear about her intentions in life. Ollie is not completely likeable, and he didn't grow on me like characters do sometimes. He was too modern, too aloof and kind of a jerk at times. On the other hand, the story is slow going and the plot seemed all over the place with the character's relationship constantly changing. It was too much for me personally. I like a simpler story, but other readers like complicated and will love this aspect. It just boils down to preference. I would recommend trying Swipe Right if you enjoy modern romcoms. The story is not bad, but it's not my favorite.
This is definitely a book to read if you enjoy romcoms. The romance was a little bit too slow for me but overall it is a good read
A great romantic comedy about young people who are looking for love in places where love has nothing to do with.
For some people, online dating is working out but for many it doesn’t and that makes them more aware of their friends and how most of them are living a very superficial life.
I laughed out loud many times and I can totally understand the sarcasm in other scenes and I will recommend this book for an easy, funny and light story that many people will enjoy.
This story will take you on the journey of one woman’s quest to find “the one” (or honestly, just a decent guy) on Tinder.
What I really enjoyed about this book is that the MC Fran decides to love her life in more honestly and speak her truth instead of staying quiet more often to keep the peace. Also, the dynamic between Fran and Ollie is very fun and relatable.
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
the plot may sound predictable, but it's not entirely your typical rom-com.
Fran and Ollie met at a work interview. Fran is immediately threatened by Ollie's overconfidence and she felt her chances for the spot slipping away. but everything is well when both are selected for the job.
When they start doing successful projects together, their primary crossing slowly fades away, and they gradually start warming for each other. Eventually, they became best friends and work spouses.
Evidently Fran is instantly smitten by Ollie but she refuses to acknowledge it, because one, they are now colleagues, and second they are both spoken for.
Swipe right is an enemy-to-friends-to-lovers romance. the plot is funny and sweet with a contemporary twist and is radiating with warm fuzzy vibes. I had big trouble putting it down, as I felt instantly connected with Fran. She is adorable, outgoing, and fun, and has amazing loyal friends. And don't get me started Viral hive, how can I apply to work there?
Ollie wasn't my favorite character. I couldn't get over the fact that he was constantly stealing Fran's ideas.
I genuinely enjoyed Stephie Chapman's narrative. I was howling when Fran broke up with Lucas! really, If you feel down, just read that passage over and over. Perfect scene!
I think it took a little bit too long for the main characters to be together, for my liking, but in sum, I loved the book as a whole.
My thanks are due to Netgalley and Hera books for my review copy
A coworkers to lovers novel that begins with an online date. I didn’t really enjoy this book and likely would not have finished it if I weren’t reviewing it. The concept was predictable and the writing was hard to follow.
I posted about this book yesterday on my Bookstagram page saying how I wasn’t completely sure about it, mainly because the main character Fran annoyed me to no ends at times. Having finished this book just now, I realize that the reason I was so annoyed by her action was because she’s basically me. Settling for the wrong men, giving chance after chance to men who don’t deserve to be given one let alone hundreds of chances and finally.. at the end of the day still hoping that “The One” will come along eventually. Like Fran, one day I decided that enough was enough and I would no longer be a doormat, I would no longer allow myself to be pushed over and I would stand up for myself.
With that in mind, I LOVED Fran’s character growth. I loved that even if she loved Ollie after working with him, developing a friendship and finally falling in love... in the end she put herself in the end when she knew having him in her life was no longer healthy for her well being. Though these two did end up re-uniting eventually it was with the idea that they were both in a better place and that having experienced the loss of a potential soul mate, they would know how to treasure each other going forward.
This book was full of enemies to friends to lovers goodness, wonderful work friendships, great female friendships and a love story that grabs you by the heartstrings.
"Shall we pretend, Fran, just for a few moments, that we don’t belong to anyone else?"
When Fran lands her dream job at the Viral Hive the last thing she was expecting was to find the guy who took credit for her idea at the interview to also have started work with her. Armed with this instant dislike for him Fran tries her level best to be cold towards Ollie, but with them constantly working together on the same project, their relationship soon grows to that of work spouses, while growing to care for each other personally.
••
Things take a change of course when Fran breaks things off with her boyfriend at his firms Christmas party, realising she can do much better Fran pitches the idea of an online dating diary blog, in which she will detail the events of her online dating adventures with the Viral Hive readers. Fran embarks on a series of unfortunate dates all of which Ollie was strongly against. Things take another turn when Ollie announces that he is going to be traveling around the world with his girlfriend, long story short said girlfriend cheats on him prompting Ollie to return to London. Meanwhile Fran has had sometime to reflect and realises that she actually has feelings for Ollie. They have a falling out after revealing their shared feelings, which prompts Fran to move to the USA for 6 months to regroup. It is o ly when she returns does the very app that pushed them apart no bring them back together.
••
I have to be honest this book did drag a bit for, it had good bones but I found it was more a story of Fran discovering herself than a romance. It took very long for the main characters to finally come together and then when they did the novel ended. I will say Fran did have rather bad luck in picking men which made for humorous reading. I did like that Fran a d Ollie developed a rather tight bond.
••
I think Suze and Carlina were the perfect friends for Fran to have in her corner, as for Lydia I did not think much of her and the whole picking the guy over her friend issue. Chapman did a brilliant job at setting the scene of Viral Hive, so much so that I wish I worked there. As for Ollie I wanted to give him a kick for messing up a pivotal moment but he redeems himself in a rather cute way.
••
Swipe Right was a nice slow burn read more about a woman growing into her own rather than a romance.
I was afraid this book might feel like so many others out currently with the Tinder/ swipe right type background. While there was definitely the same background, it didn't feel the same or overdone. This book had me hooked on the characters from the beginning, however it was definitely a slow build. The second half of the book flew by with love interests, crazy dates, and ultimately needing to know the ending. It was worth hanging in for the ending. I loved the ending, though it did feel a little rushed after the slow build of the book. Will definitely be recommending to friends.
Complementary copy given for honest review and opinion.
This book was a fun ready but it felt very slow. I read for a good while and I was only 3% in. If you want a book to last, this is it. Cute and fun for romance.
I received a free copy for an honest review.
It's funny and cute story that usually entertains me. Loved the whole work environment and Fran's coworkers.
I really liked Fran's personality. She's honest and funny, but sometimes I found her a bit off toward Ollie. Looking for things that wasn't there, you know?
As for Ollie, I wish there was his POV. I couldn't fully connect with him.
Amazing book! Loved the chemistry and characters! I also found moments of pure laughter, which is a relief during this time. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.
Every so often you need a book like this that is pure build up. The author said at the end she got this idea from the movie When Harry Meet Sally but added in a modern take. Fran and Ollie meet during their interview for a new job, they do so well that they both get the job. They turn from enemies to friends to wish we could be more back to zero again. This book is over a couple years in mostly their workplace, where they become work wife and husband,
This is a super super slow burn, and not much steam other than she goes on tinder dates. I loved the banter of her work coworkers, Fran and Ollie, and her horrible dates, Some parts got long, and she skipped most of one 6 months period but the flow wasn't too bad.
Overall, 3.5 stars and 1 steam. (Its not clean as its British)
Thanks to Hera publishers and author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
