This series has been great from the beginning, but Penned In takes the cake. It's the best one and I love spooky and scary reads so this one obviously is my favorite. It even had me a little scared. I love the character development of the workers at the restaurant.
I so want to go with my friends for a weekend retreat at a haunted prison! I'd love it.
I can't wait to read or listen to the next book in the series.
Great Rainy day read! It was another terrific book written by one of my favourite cozy mystery authors. I am so glad I had the pleasure of reading an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Penned In is a novella in Lynn Cahoon's Farm-To-Fork series. I enjoy that series. This novella takes a slightly different path than the full length books. It is the night before Halloween. The County Seat restaurant coworkers are doing an overnight team building event at the Idaho Penitentiary, which is now a tourist attraction. It starts out as a fun event until one of the guides is killed. It has to be someone inside, but who? There are other groups there along with Angie's group. It's an intriguing cozy mystery but there are paranormal elements. It is a Halloween story so.....I guess maybe it should be expected. Which is what makes it different from the rest of the series. I'm not keen on paranormal cozy mysteries but it is an enjoyable quick read.

I like this type of quick and easy to read novellas, and this one has great characters and setting. The plot and story are also OK, but I don't like the ghost nonsense.
Lynn Cahoon’s Penned In is a semi-spooky novella addition to her Farm-to-Table series. Angie Turner’s restaurant staff is having a team building event at a reportedly haunted, retired prison which includes a tour and being locked in for the night. The setting is appropriately dark and spooky but this book just didn’t do much for me. The characters that I so enjoy were not so engaging out of their normal environment and the resolution just about came out of nowhere. I won’t give details but this book is for hardcore fans of the series only. Two stars.
I was given a free copy of this book by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write an honest review and the opinions stated are solely my own.
Penned In is an entertaining and well written cozy mystery. Great addition to the series. Cozy mystery fans will enjoy this book. I received an arc from the publisher and Netgalley and this is my unbiased review.
This cozy novella was a top notch mystery with a locked in for the night premise.
As always, the characters and whodunit were well written.
I highly recommend this series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Penned in will intrigue you from page one. A group of working friends spend the night locked in a prison cell block. It may or maybe not haunted. There's a murder and no way to call for help. Lots of twists that will keep you reading.

I've read several other books in this series, so I was looking forward to this one. It's a fun and engaging Halloween-themed cosy mystery novella, set at a haunted local prison. It has a bit of "locked room mystery" to it (I'm not going to give you any spoilers) and a bit of humour, just to make things more fun. The characters are nicely developed, so is the plot.
Deep Fried Revenge was my first read from Lynn Cahoon and I fell in love with her characters. That said, I was super excited to read the latest of the series.
Penned In is a fun, quick mystery that is sure to please.
Penned In is the latest book in the Farm-to-Fork mystery series written by Lynn Cahoon. It's the fifth tale in the series, considered a novella at under 1000 Kindle lines, and will be published just in time for Halloween this year. The restaurant staff in this Idaho-based cozy hold a team-building event inside a local prison that now gives tours. The seven main characters are thrust together with four guards and a group of other attendees, but someone turns up dead. Whodunnit?
What a perfect locked door theme! Only 12 to 15 people could've been involved, and we know the main cast is innocent, so it had to be a handful of people we met in the first few chapters, right? Or is it the mysterious ghost of a prisoner who went nuts and killed her fellow inmates when something was stolen from her? Either way, the plot was fun... interesting relationships between the guards and the guests made it more curious too.
The writing is fine, the length is perfect for a quick 1-hour read before bed. Save it for a spooky time. Think about the effects, enjoy the camaraderie between the restaurant workers, and try to figure out who had the most to gain by someone's death. It's easy to solve in one way, difficult in another. A good way to whet our appetite in between regular editions in the series. Thanks NetGalley!
I really liked Penned In. It was great such a fun story and a quick read that I can't stop reading.
A huge thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this publication, in exchange for an unbiased review.
Don't forget! Come back to
Angie Turner has scheduled a crew bonding event for the entire staff of the County Seat.
She lets each person schedule an activity for everyone to go to. This time, Matt scheduled a sleepover at a haunted ex-prison in Idaho.
When one of the "Guards" (one of four actors who play host to the "inmates" for the night) is found dead. It quickly becomes obvious that it wasn't natural causes.
Yep, Angie is once again involved in a murder investigation. This time, she and her crew are locked in with the killer with no way to escape until the doors automatically unlock at 06:00 the next morning.
This was a fun story with developed characters, a cast of several suspects, and a little bit of humor.
This one is the 5th book in the series and they are all stand alone books.
This short story diverges from the rest of the series in that it contains paranormal elements. But I really liked it. I would recommend reading the series in order rather than reading this as a stand alone story.
A spooky fun addition to this series revolving around team building and a haunted penitentiary and a very enjoyable story line.
A nice addition to an already engaging series. I love how the author is adding these shorter installments to get the reader through until the next full book. Using team building excursions tainted with murder and mystery is amazing. A fun quick mystery that definitely whets the appetite until the next installment comes out.
Penned In was a quick and spooky read. Angie finds herself entangled in a ghostly murder mystery that was exciting to read. Choosing a prison for a team building exercise for the chef's was questionable to me but it made for a thrilling time. This story was not short of suspense. My only part I did not enjoy was when one of the chef's turned into the ghost. A little overkill for the story and my beliefs in paranormal.
Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Publishers for a copy of "Penned In" in exchange for an honest review.
It was a treat to visit with the gang from the County Seat again in this Farm-to-Fork novella. Angie Turner, her boyfriend Ian McNeal and the County Seat family Matt Young, Hope Anderson, Estebe Blackstone, Felicia Williams and Nancy Gowan are on their quarterly team building trip. This time Matt has scheduled them to spend the night at the Old Idaho Penitentiary. Also along for the trip is Dom Angie's beloved St. Bernard.
Of course, where Angie goes trouble seems to follow. No sooner have they entered the old penitentiary and started their tour when a murder takes place. Since they are locked into the building until 6am the following morning, it's clear that the murderer has to be one of them.
There are 4 guards that serve as the tour guides - Bridget, Marty, Pat and Glen. The other participants of the tour are: Thaddeus Paige and his niece and nephew - Tamera and Tad Johnson.
Two sets of newlyweds: Nick & Sara and Jamie & Liz.
It was definitely a wonderful idea. Some parts of the book were a bit confusing. There is a lot to take in as a novella format. Around page 48 - Matt was referred to as Marty. "Marty popped his head up....." and then in the next sentence he is: "Ian handed Matt one of the flashlights......"
Will be looking forward to the next visit to the County Seat!!
I have read all the books in the series so far and I liked this book , but not as much as the others. I love all the regular characters in the series and look forward to reading more about them. This book was a little different not only was it shorter, I am assuming it is a novella, but we did not get as much interaction between the main characters. Still a good little story.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
